You are supplying an awesome tool for customers to use when deciding which chainsaw they would like to purchase. It’s great to see how groups of saws stack up on a dyno graph.
I sure hope it helps some make a decision on a saw purchase.
Yea but power is only half or less important then how it handles, its features, ergonomics and weight. There are tons of saws with less power that out cut saws with 15 more ccs(cs-590 for instance) then it has and when your cutting all day power means jack if you can't lift your arms and you back is a wreak
@@k-techcowboy4260 I have said that many times.
Saw that feels the best and has a sharp chain will get the most wood on the ground.
I've owned 6/8 of these saws and I've settled with the 462. Its the lightest and has the best handling out of the lot. Doesn't feel bulky in your hands. Limbs well due to high rpms and will pull a 32ich bar just fine if your chain is properly sharpened with proper racker depth. Its a brilliant saw for being 72cc. I sold my 500i after 1 week of use as it just wasn't as handy and easy to use as the 462. (found it bulky like a 661) just my personal experience's. 2 and half years of use on my 462 with roughly 50-75 tanks of fuel per year. Not one problem with the saw during my ownership. Food for thought - Mac
Hard to argue with your points and I agree with you 100%.
Very interesting! I like the Husky OE 372XP because they're easily modifiable. Have never run a Stihl of any kind, but I imagine they're pretty nice. Looking to get one used sometime.
A built 462c is a game-changer saw for sure ! Weight of a 60cc class saw with ample power when modded 😀
If you want to know the real story ask the guys that use them to make a living!!!
Good info to have !!
@@andyjones6361 that is the real story, just happens to be the story of the Dyno comparison. As they say in racing, we race cars not dyno's, so I get what you are meaning tho.
I bought the Echo (personal use).....it was the price and better warranty for me. I've only had the chance to run it once....on a large oak. It cut like a dream.
Many thanks to you Joe! I was always thinking how would these saws manage on a real dyno and now I know that. And thank you also for showing the metrics.
Great vids Joe. I have a 565 Huskie and I got to tell ya It took 12 tanks of fuel to break her in. And I’m telling ya its a ripper. Love to see a fully broken in 565 do a pull. Keep up the great work👍👍
Your dyno videos are so interesting and informative Joe, thanks for taking the effort to share. Confirming my thoughts on getting a 372xp OE and getting it ported for a great little firewood saw. Best wishes from Western Australia.
Having viewed your charts a few many times now I can follow your pointer to get it.
I needed a bigger saw for some big oak trees that needed clearing so I made the excuse to but an Echo 7310. I love it along with my other echo saws. I came here to see how it stacks up against the rest. For the money I paid, I'm really happy. I have a 620 and 4910 that I did a muffler mod and carb mod on after about 5 tanks of gas. I'll probably do the same to my 7310.
I did get to use a 500i while I worked along side a crew on a job. That's the most impressive saw I've ever used but I didn't want to spend $1,400 on a saw I only need one a year. The saw I use the most is my 4910. It's light, powerful and 100% reliable. I love you videos man, thank you
That was awesome! Can’t believe I hadn’t seen it before now. Picked up a couple of the last 7900’s just because and glad I did. Needs some carburetor work but even still I was impressed enough to get a little ea5000. My old late 80’s stihls (034,044,066) still run like new but getting worth enough used to stop running them as much. 👍🏼
Nice to have a little more than guys' impressions to go on, thanks for putting in the work
Love the video! Always wondered how they compared against each other.
500 views an hour!!! Killing it Joe!! Thanks for the awesome videos
Joe thank you for the very complete lineup. Could we please have a 60cc saw test next.
Right on👍 Thanks for information. I'm glad I got the 461 over the 462. She pulls a 32' nicely for me where as it looks like the other may have struggled.
I love my 461
Great comparison! The 462 really showed up to be down so low on displacement. Just speaks for the engineering of that saw. I run my 462 in hardwoods with a 25-28" bar and full teeth chain and is an awesome saw for felling and limbing in a production environment.
Must struggle with that 28 buried though
It does in stock form. I've done a muffler mod and some work to the air filter baffle and it trucks along surprisingly well with the 28 buried.
462 has 1.5 cc advantage on the 572XP. The 572XP in the Dyno runs appears to be new out the box. So not run in yet.
The MS462 appears as if it has plenty run time to be at the top it's game.
I have both. Not spits difference in overall horsepower between the two.
It's just what a person likes.
I'm not brand loyal either. I like them all.
I agree with another comment I read. They 572 is outlasting the 462. It was totally resigned in April of 2021 because pistons were braking as well as bar mounts.
Just saying gotta compare apples to apples.
Both are great saws and I would cut with either of them. We haven’t had any issues with our 462’s and they are pre 2021’s. And they are logged with. Not firewood or tree service. Yes the power of both are basically the same. BUT… the 572xp weighs 1-1/2 lbs more than the 462. If I want to pack more weight around then I’ll grab the 500i which still weighs less than the 572 and will smoke them both. So again, nothing wrong with either of those saws I’m just impressed with the power/weight/handling of the 462. The 572 also has great low end power and smooth! Have a blessed day mate!
The 572 is having bearing problems
Another awesome video Joe👌 very helpful since there are a lot of factors when choosing a saw.
I've always claimed & believed the 572xp out runs the 372 but it's cool to see the numbers. Thank you
Especially after break in and autotune figures itself out.
Nice work Joe! Thanks for all your work!
That 462 came from out your way, not your old one, I'm still running that.
Have a great week buddy.
Late to the game here, but LOVE these vids. Good info to help in planning future saw purchases. Thanks very much.
Awesome vid, just milled some Russian Olive yesterday with the 500i. The 500i really does run nice under a constent heavy load.
Yes at loaded RPM . It has great power and torque .
People poo poo the Automatic Transmission when it first come out too 😁
Great video i have a 461 and run a 20 inch bar full chisel for most of the year that saw is an absolute workhorse. Non ethanol fuel is the key
Yep, 461 is a beast. However, for just bucking logs I saw the 661 which really isn’t much heavier has ton more power
Most comprehensive saw video ever, awesome man
Awesome video ... the same 70cc contenders woods ported I would like to see... always thumbs up content 👍🏽👍🏽
Those makitas are real nice saws, in my country they are literally half the price of the husky/stihl equivalents.
Great job. Sure gave me insight. And proof in the pudding about the 462 lack of bottom end being a short stroke saw. It's my favorite no doubt for my needs. I wasnt surprised the almighty glorified 500i barely makes more power then a 460,461.
That drop in power on the top end like you said amazes me that under load it drops off. Which load is any amount of cutting at that rpm, to drop of and get it to the midrange? I thought that was really interesting how they all have done that when you put load to it.
Anyhow I just think you're Dyno runs on these saws is great, keep up the great work!
Awesome video! Really like these comparisons videos
Another great video, I imagine it was a good deal of work putting it all together.
What a blessing. Was just wondering which 70 cc saw i should buy. Awesome content
Hope this helps you out.
Awesome test Joe.A comparison of different fuels and or oils would be cool.
I'll have to try that sometime.
Great vid. Extremely useful info!!
Great info Dyno Joe.
Be interesting to see how a Farmertec 372xp copy comes up and a Iron Horse modded 372xp (ported) & 372xp (86cc).
@Ironhorse sent many of us here 😊
Nice test video! I would be interested to now see them ported, muff modded and broken in for full potential
Ya would be interesting to see exactly how much power is gained.
These are great videos man keep it up!
Amazing video! Keep up the great work!!
great comparison video on saw performance; this kind of thing is new and needed in the saw community; awesome job.
New subscriber and really enjoying your videos you are doing a great job!!
Awesome video Joe, would love to see what the difference in hp is on the MS500i after putting on one of those barkbox mufflers.
They are all so close that you can’t make a wrong choice. Other than the 500i costing 500$ more for not having that much more power. 462 or 572 if buying new. Too bad they stopped making the 461 because it is one heck of a saw
They stopped making the 461? That's lame!
Another great video. Thanks for posting. It is appreciated.
Thank you for watching.
Dude this is awesome! Keep it up.
Awesome comparo again, Joe, hey just something to remember in regards to horsepower differences between all these saws is that a modded muffler on a 372xp would probably make it in the top 3 for power. The best saw is the one you like to operate the most and last the longest, good work Joe.
Red beard sells modified intake for a 372 as well
@@Banjoandguns How do I contact Red Beard? Would he have a muffler for a Homelite XL12?
Epic! Great info people have been looking for. Keep it up!!! 🤟🤟🤟
I love these videos. They really let a person fine tune a saw know how to change porting techniques. Will deff change the game of r/d! So the peaks will be little deceiving. One needs analyze the graph to fine tune a saws performance. The thing that matters the most is what rpm range are you in in the cut!!!.Which saw gas the most hp and torque in that rpm range!! In that scenario the x-torque, and 572 pulled away from other saws with more power and torge in those rpm ranges where saws are ran! The572 and 462 produce the most hp and torque out of all the saws from 9 k to 12k.
Exactly. Just a tool to help make changes visible.
Each saw will suit some users better than others regardless of the power output.
Matching chain to powerhead is a very important piece too. If you run depth gauge at .050 on a 462 it will not like it as well as the 461 and all sorts of other scenarios.
@@dynojoemods2764 100% that's what I was just explaining to my son. Your great guy we all appreciate your work !! How can I help your channel. As a technical guy its invaluable!!
Btw this video rocks ,answers many questions in a great saw world , amazing what’s available and how dyno jo can make them really run the way u want
Great comparison Joe. I know that had to take a lot of time.
It was a task for sure.
Thank you for watching.
Another great effort, thank you!
They say the 572 wakes up after break in , i wonder how much difference that would make ?might make an interesting video testing that
Great vid can't wait till the ported shootout of them
Back in 6/20, you had a stock 572 @ I believe just above 7hp on the dyno. Damn variables.
That is why I do before/after runs or in this case, all runs on the same day. The self tuning saws do tend to be all over from saw to saw.
I'm old small engine tech, the large intake ports lower pressure and speed. And lots hog them out. It's fun to watch.
My man from "Blackhawk" land you sir like I said awhile back. You're content is on point. Keep the videos comming sir. Take care.
Nice job! Thanks your work.
Thank you for watching.
Ought to try doing the 60cc class and include a 460 rancher.. that was the saw I started out on and ran for years, these dyno comparisons are what get mad views
Great work Joe!!
Thank you
Great stuff!!!
Love seeing all the brands without talking some up and bashing the others. Some youtubers are too brand loyal. They all have some great saws!
Stihls suck 🤣
@@brettblack7049 HAHAHA
@@ahineman123 I couldn't resist. It seems the stihl crowd is the most easily triggered, I think its cause they have more money invested in them.
I like to say, "what works for one, doesn't work for everyone".
I prefer husky for handling, but have many brands. The 462 in the video is one of my old saws, dang stihls 😆
I own some of all the brands tested, but the local husqvarna dealer has the best prices and service so I tend to prefer that brand

That's cool, you found what works for you 😃
I like that I can buy husky parts online.
I really enjoyed your videos, thanks
Thanks for the info my friend great videos
Wow Joe
Excellent data.
The cubic centimeters difference I’m sure played into results
But would be interesting is to take hp per dollar spent!!
Take the MSRP and divide by hp output and come up with dollars per HP amount. !!
That could make a difference to some people
The 500i at anMSRP OF $1,370.00 with a 25” bar and 7.04hp comes to $194.60 per hp!!! Ouch!
Do the math on an Eager Beaver from Wal Mart or Menards! Please. 😂
Thank u 4 doin this!!
Great head to head, data doesn't lie. Thanks for the efforts you make to put out noticeable content. This whole chainsaw community knows about you and much respect is shown.. Nothing but potential Joe, keep em comin.. SLANT'E
Thank you, I have a few more videos to work on.
It dose when none are broke in
@@k-techcowboy4260
A lot of people get upset when a saw dosent perform out of the box. The extra 3-5% might not change an opinion if the saw isn't a runner right out of the box.
The difference when broken in should be noticeable obviously. I don't think the outcome of joe's dyno tests would reflect much difference between models from out of the box to broken in. The saw is the saw😉
That's a nice comparison I would like to see just the 572xp an 462cm run against each other to many lines is confusing lol. Put a Muffler modd on them both run them again be a nice turn out
Another awesome video!!!
Great video!
Excellent comparison . . .
Next you should do a 60cc Dyno run. 311,362, echo cs 590, cs 620,husky 455 and I think the 460.
Working on it.
I have a 461 and it does have the torque. Had to remove the plastic limiters from the carb adjusting screws because I couldn’t get it to idle. Like at all. I don’t really like the way the saw performs across the board though. I still use it, of course. My go-to saw is my Holzfforma 372. It has been a reliable saw for about five years now and I love the way it cuts. As others have said, a sharp chain makes the saw. I always carry spare chains and bars. If you get your bar pinched in a tree and you don’t have your heavy equipment handy you can pop your power head off and cut yourself free with your spares.
Very nice Joe
Dang it. I wish I could’ve came up with one of my Original Dolmar 7900’s for this. But even then, the 7901 is closer to one you can buy new, so I get it…it’s hard to please everyone. You’re a brave man Joe🤣🤣🤣
It is what it is. Hard enough trying to locate 8 current production saws let alone adding the oldies lol
@@dynojoemods2764 exactly! You just keep doin your thing buddy, you’re killin it👍🏻
yes the video i have been waiting for!!
The 462 edged out the 572 in stock trim. Surprising. The 462 needs that extra 2mm stroke that the 461 has.
The 462 is a used broken-in saw. The 572 is new out of the box. He said so. It will make a huge difference when the rings seat.
LOVE seeing the metric weights in there. Thanks Joe.
Have you ever tested any of the chinasaws or done any porting on them?
I have ported most all of these at 1 time or another. Some gain well and others gain Really well.
The 372 Xtorq with an MSRP of $840.00 comes to $148.94 per hp!
But alas there are other thing to consider as you pointed out fit, weight, dealer dependability,
I am a numbers guy so I like to to see $ per HP. Grew up on the meager side of life and like to get the best bang for the buck!
It gets hard trying to do that and the prices are all over the place. My dealer was 975 on the x torq and he said they were going up.
But that is a good way to help sort the saws for sure.
I agree. I liked seeing hp/lb and hp/$.
The price doubles on x torqs when you start putting bearings in every 6 months.
Thanks Joe
Excellent video
good job joe
the 500i is the best saw made its so light & powerful love it
Going to be a though one to top in the future too.
Great info!
Great information!!! The big winner I see is the 461. Seems like it has the most power and tq low/med high. Only at 10k and above does 462 start winning. None of them are bad choices. Choose your flavor and let the chips fly.
Especially in weight! My 394 weighed 17.5lbs dry!
461 gone now? Never wanted a stihl but that one seems very durable.

Great information and i love your videos. What do you think of the Echo especially for the price? I feel like with few tanks and a proper tune it would be a bit more competitive.
Thank you.
The echo seems to be a very good option. Well made solid built saw with great air filtration. Really is one to look at in this class
Fantastic!
love these videos
Thank you for your support
I'm not surprised the 462 was 2nd, that saw is an animal
Nice, thanks a lot.
Great video.
Great video thanks! I'm curious as to why you pull the starter cord when turning the saw off though?
Supposed to reduce the wear and tear on the starter pawls.
When some saws shut down they don't make it past the compression stroke and will grab another notch on the recoil. Then as the piston/crank rotats backward that 1/2 revolution it really pulls the rope tight into the housing. Adding wear and tear. Some really grab it tight and others didn't seem to. You can see my hand jump on the saws that try and pull back.
I have a 572. Seems like it falls off quick if it’s not higher in the RPM... when you do your porting on them do you find that improves? I’m more a fan of my 620p as I can dog that saw and it keeps cutting...
One of new favorite channels, I love the variety of content. Maybe in the future dyno viewers chainsaws, or a saw between a aftermarket rebuild and oem rebuild

Nice video! I seen you have a video like this with 50cc saws but haven't run across one with 60cc's. Would there happen to be one?
Really a good test with even a better expanation. Like the americans say, there is no better subsitude for power than cubic inches. and maybe more important, for torque when you compare the 461 and 462. Maybe a nice upgrade for your video's, give the factory displacement, power and torque and weigth vs your measured numbers. (not for displacement. ) keep up the good work. like your channel very much.
There is no replacement for displacement.

What problems have you had with the 462?
@@gillerizedworksaws9561 what problems have you had with the 572?
@@robertclifford1099 hot start issues just like the 562 I still like it a lot but there's nothing more annoying than a saw that won't start when it's hot and my 462's have never gave me that problem and I have 3 of them
I like saws 70cc and larger. I have a 462 and a 441. The 462 feel torquey in comparison to the 441. Even though people complain about the torque of the 462, it is better than a 372. I also have a farmertec 440 and 372. I don't have much have much run time on the 372 so I can't comment on it. I think it is going to be good. The 440 seems to have torque about like a 660. It is a very good cutter.
The saws that make high rpm power will normally feel "light " on tq to a lot of people.
The fall from 7hp to 5 is more a loss vs from 5.5 to 4.5. Even though 5 is still more the 4.5 it felt like more of a drop, so that must mean it is less.
Hope that makes sense.
