Let's put it to the test & crank it up!
Many thanks to Trey Xavier, Issac SG, Jackson Ward and John Souki!
YES....I"M GETTING PAID FOR THIS VIDEO BECAUSE I CAN'T DO IT FOR FREE.
About Spectre Sound Studios:
I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!
I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.
Thanks for checking out my channel & please subscribe!
Dude you're looking slim and healthy!
Not quite, but definitely slimmer and healthier, than he was.
Ron Rocker wow dude tell us how you really feel 🤨
Get it Glenn, Our guitar player / mix engineer took your advice and started dieting and working out! It makes playing 45 minute sets much easier.
@@snapascrew
He isn't there yet. Just pointing it out, that's all.
Yeah, no longer do I get the "if Sam Kinison had been into music production" feel anymore.
Slayer on a headless guitar?
*wait, that's HELLA ilegal.*
Djenty boi asked to play Thrash
it's like mixing water with oil.
This is punishable by death
Solo on singlecoil neck pickup, even more illegal lmao
Wtf right. Ehhh
Isaac: “Kerry King amp demo? Ya sure I’ll head over now. I’ll bring my 9 string”
I thought that. Why would you test the sound of a Slayer Marshall and have generic Metal guitarist with generic 9 string play Generic riff (generic for 2015 anyways)
Facepalm for sure.
that's a 7 string
Seasons in the abyss IS their best record with the best blend of balls to the wall speed and aggression with slower more sinister sounding songs to balance them out.
Looking trim my friend, nice work!
Glenn, you made my day when u said Seasons in the Abyss is Slayers best record :) 👍
Grant I’ve always thought so too
I totally agree also!!
Took some time to get ppl convinced, it seems..
Grant Beck yes. Two of slayers best tunes. Seasons especially when the lyrics start
I dunno, Raining Blood is right there with it.
best epi so far,Trey playing seasons was so funny and class!!! Btw Glenn you are looking in fantastic shape man respect to u dude \m/
The JCM800 isn't the heaviest sound ever, but it is an iconic sound, rooted in Metal's history
Probably high on the list of amps where people have gone "what would happen if i did ____"
One title: Demanufacture
@@Dicktopus Heavilly modified JCM 800...
@@luispedro4045 As the KK model...
It’s heavy af especially at loud volumes . KERRY KING JCM 800 is modded to take KT88 tubies so it’s supposed to affect the distortion more.
You're looking so healthy man! Keep up the good work 🙏🏼
Not much of a metal fan but I really dig your channel. You pay attention to the sonics and care about the music. Moreover, you're always SO genuinely enthusiastic, it's inspiring. Cheers man
Love that rhythm tone!
Last time I came this quickly, I had to say sorry to my wife.
Great vid. I'm also old enough to remember being thoroughly confused at all the heavy sounding JCM800's which always sounded thin when I tried em. That's probably why my first tube amp was a Boogie.
Sounds gnarly man! Thanks for letting us dudes RIFF
You're a good player!
I agree Glenn. Seasons In the Abyss and South of Heaven are my 2 favorite as well, with Seasons edging out by a little bit. Awesome video!!!
Glenn, its really awesome to see you looking in much better shape. A change that hopefully will help you as time moves on. Your work ethic is indisputable as far as im concerned. Fucking awesome dude.
Drum sound awesome ! Love it !!
The Fricker Effect: _phrase_
Definition: Glenn demos a plugin, and we all go to download it.
Also, memo to Softtube: make a Jeff Hanneman amp sim! You gotta cover all bases after all.
Making a Tom Araya amp sim would be covering all basses
@@Disnamesucksass Okay, you win with that one. Cheers 👍
MichaelD8393 Jeff just used regular JCM800s
@@zackarysmith2222 True, but I saw in a video that he also had Boss RGE-10 equalizers and a Yamaha SPX-90 for effects like delay. All Softube would have to do is ask Jeff's tech for his effect & EQ settings and pair them with a JCM800 for a Hanneman amp sim. I'd love that to go with the Kerry King sim here.
where can I download it? Does it work on reaper? It´s for a friend of mine who´s got a studio, thanks.
I second someone else's comment and agree that you're looking like you're getting in better shape, looking more healthy. Please keep up the good work for yourself, and hopefully others will be inspired by that, as well!
Sounds really good!
Couple of things... people like to say 800s aren't really that gainy sounding by todays standards, but are always playing them through sims or at bedroom levels.I get that they're MV amps, but crank one up w/a boost & get the power tubes cooking & those things give you all you need. Secondly, you should've mentioned the presets on this sim, as well as the cabinet options..... you can get hellaciously heavy tones with all the tweaking on this sim; different mic combos & kicking the phase in/out etc. It's a VERY versatile amp sim & this review barely scratched the surface.Still, cool that you guys did it at all & gave it a deservedly great review.
Wow. I completely agree with you Glenn on your Slayer album picks and song. That title track is probably my favorite Slayer song. \m/
SSSSLLLAAAAAYYYYHHHHUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRR
Um, I believe it's FUUUUUCKIIIINNN SLAAAAAAYYYYAAAHH!!!!!😆😆
@@davedecker1725 ALLL THE GAINNN!!! NO MIDS
@@davedecker1725 SLAYYYYYYYYYHURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Now ya got it!!😎
Actually, King has a lotta mids in his tone,he be uses a graphic eq stompbox. Ya gotta jack up the mids to get heard in THAT band!
Hahaha, love your reviews n your personality bro. Enjoyed this. Got the Kerry King plugin, awesome.
Damn Glenn, you are shedding the weight! Good for you man!!
HA! Glenn! Exactly the same favourite albums of Slayer like mine.
those are my 2 favorite slayer records too, glenn.
These official Marshall plugins are absolutely sick !!!!!!
BEST FUCKING INTRO. I WAS LOOKIN AWAY AND I THOGHT IT WAS SLAYER !!!
Love that Bad News shirt!
My 2 favorites are also South of Heaven and Seasons in The Abyss, nice one Glenn
Seasons is the best album..i was a teenager back then and it still gets played alot on my system...thumbs up Glenn..
Not best - favourite. There is no best, it's all subjective.
@@Syklonus best in my opinion..
FFFFUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKIIIIINNNNGGGGGGGG SSSLLLLAAAAYYYYYYYUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!
Would really love a breakdown of that full Mix.
Definitely sounds killer
Been using the 2203/2204 for ages as my heavy sound. Its best quality in my opinion is, that it sits perfectly in the mix and leaves room for vocals, good bass and drum sounds.
Dude you are unrecognizable!!!! Good job on the weight loss Glenn!
Those are my two albums of choice as well!
I had a Randy Rhodes Marshal which had an O/D circuit built in and still used a Front Line O/D for lead tone with a Jackson Model 6 .
Glenn!!!!!!! I love your channel. Oh shit! “ raining Glenn!!!! From a lacerated studio!!”.
I lost it at the table drums 🤣🤟🏻
Thats the only two Slayer records I really ever listened to as well.
"nobody knows how to play that part" so true

Alex Guitar lmao thanks now I have no excuse
@@alex_capone exactly
I do haha it’s not really all that difficult 😁
@@megaduck7965 definitely not difficult lol. just the fact that the song became so iconic for its intro riff that barely anybody bothers to learn the rest.
Glenn......thanks man.
Agreed on South of Heaven and Seasons!
Seasons..... My Fav to Glenn
Kerry Kings signature EMG pick ups comes with a booster switch to install on your guitar.
I'm with Glenn. South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss are my favourite Slayer albums. Reign in Blood is great too, but I find the tracklist a bit too samey, although it does have Postmortem on it which is a killer!
Glen so happen you said Seasons in the Abyss. My favorite as well.
"Seasons In The Abyss" i totally agree dude that and "God Hates Us All" EPIC! albums
looking like the first time you open the studio, Glenn
I think I've gotta agree with Glenn on South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss being some of Slayer's best work. Those are my favorites from them as well. Still one of the best bands I've seen live!
Totally agree Glenn, Season's for me was the best album by far.
can´t say much about the plugin, but I LOVE MY 2203KK! That thing cuts through the mix like hell.
My 2 fav Slayer records: South of Heaven and God Hates Us All. 2 very underrated records. Kickass plug in by the way.
i think the breakdown of Raining blood is 0-1-4 on E; then 2 on the A and the 2 on the D, going back up with the 3-2 on the A and the 4 on the E? That's how i learned it. Dont know for certain if it is correct, but it sounds like the original riff
Try it with an EMG 81 with the onboard gain boost, it sounds like it is meant to be run that way.
yo gleeen! when I was in a metal band my lead guitar player used a yamaha G100 head with a frequency knob then ran it thru i believe marshall 1200 or something and it sounds sick AF. have you had any experience with the G100?
GLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENN!! you should make a video of the plugin Heavyocity PUNISHER. that could be something!! btw i fucking love your channel !!
😄 duh-nuh-nuh-duh-nuh-nuh...sounds F'in amaze-ballz!!
Thank You Guys!
...and F-YoO Glenn
P.S.- Lookin hella SLiM Glenn Way to Go Man!!
Hi glenn you always talk about gears/pluginfor guitar bass ex. How abt synth/keyboard. Any recomendation for metal? Thanks
*SLAYERRRRRRRRRRR
Exellent
Yes....Seasons in the abyss is the best Slayer album...and you sir are looking very healthy. Keep up the good work and awsome music tastes.
I don't know, but it sounded pretty tame to me. Not really like Slayer to my ears, and I'm an old guy that grew up with them as well. This is the second video I've seen on this plug in and both sounded the same. I feel like a JVM will get you to Slayer territory more convincingly, but maybe this plug in sounds better in the room?
that ponytail is pretty intense bro
I'm just here to praise the Bad News tee shirt. Dude!
Dude, you look so slim...as the si una oficina the plugin 😁
Damn, the UA-cam audio compression was not kind to this guitar sound
Hey Glen, what's your favorite genre of metal?
I have a quick question, I’m working on a flamenco project and instead of cajón, I plan on using an Middle Eastern aluminum goblet drum and I am curious on how exactly to mic it without sounding incredibly snappy so much that it hurts to listen to. Fuck you very much, cheers.
3:58 fuck yeah !!!
Rain Blooooooood!
With no copyright striiiike!
this reminds me of head bangers ball on MTV back in the day
Slayer were firing on all cylinders for Seasons EPIC album
I really do have to wonder, have you ever tried any of the amp simms in Cubase Pro 10? I'm just wondering if you think there is anything there good enough for metal. Myself, think there is but then my ears aren't the best after many many years of live playing snf being too stupid to use ear plugs. I do now though.
So it obviously will sound killer with EMG81/85s or Fishmans... But what does it sound like thru passive Duncan's or Dimarzio's?
Seasons in the abyss is a masterpiece agreed! Best slayer album hands down!!
How about a Gary Holt plugin?
How can we get the Guitar tone from "Warriors Of Ghenhas Kahn"?
Seasons is Slayers best album, right on Glenn
pretty much all my favorite metal tones are some form of a jcm800. with the exception of lamb of god, devin townsend, and knocked loose.
Check out the Marshall DSL HR
It's not a booster circuit. The Kerry King Signature head is a JCM 800 with his MXR 10 Band EQ setting and a noise gate. Also KT88 power tubes instead of EL34. Other than that, it's your bog standard JCM 800.
I’m honestly pretty torn between Seasons In The Abyss and South of Heaven. But I think I have a slight preference for Seasons
Yeah, but what about the tone knob button on the guitar. Slayer always have that different attack for the driven distortion. Most are taken off guitars.
I'd like to hear it with a Boss GE-7 or BBE sonic stomp and Mooer Radar through the 3.5 input jack of my Marshall DSL100HR and 1960 cab. I really hate my neighbors.
Looks like you lost a lot of weight man, looking good 🤟
Wow, I actually agree. Seasons in the Abyss is their best record.
Man I need to get a Kiesel guitar
This is such a massive difference that you can actually tell on phone speakers!
Im a older fuck we boosted the jcm800 with boss ds1 but used the gain at 5 treble 0 and level on 10 that was instantly slayer but then the 5150 came out and the peavey ultra amps
Anyone want to help me out in how to find this show Riffified he was talking about. Always curious in new things to watch
Slayer did a tour with Megadeth where they played Seasons in it’s entirety and Megadeth played Rust. It was really loud and fucking epic as fuck
Dude you're looking fantastic. Keep up the great work
FOKIN SLAYER \m/
Bruh I read foreskin slayer for a sec
Agree with your slayer album choices, except i would put 'Show No Mercy' by them:)
It's a perfect digital amb for thrash metal/slayer, I wish that Marshall made solid amps series of the amp!!!
Try the Marshall valvestate series.
From Plexi to jcm 900 and beyond.
They sound great and they are reliable as bricks.
I agree that Seasons is their best Jazz album, but that one that i was listening the most times by far is South !
Not sure the Strandberg sounded very Slayer at all. They looked like humbuckers, but sounded like single-coils, imho.
