    The best overdrive sound I ever got was in this order. Green bullet mic, compression pedal then a delay pedal, and last the overdrive pedal, because the overlapping of the delay with your main signal gives a mix of sounds to blend before the overdrive which gets more overdrive feel. I use a Danelectro Daddy O (overdrive pedal) into a 'Lunchbox' amp, then mic that amp with an SM57 or 58 mic into the PA. That Daddy O and Lunchbox is a must hear! as the lunchbox is normally a boring dull amp, no good for a guitar, but with a Harmonica and that Daddy O everything changes!!! Incredible valve amp sound but no valves

    Great video Jonah, very informative. I bought the Alpha Wolf a couple of months ago. It's awesomely expensive but it's also expensively awesome. I don't feel like I'll ever need another pedal. It does everything I want it to do and I think it probably saves you money providing you can afford the initial layout. Keep the videos comin' . John.

      @HarmonicaRevolution  Рік тому

      Yeah, I can see the Alpha Wolf being really good, and you get to skip the hassle of actually building a board too. Knowing what I do now, if I was buying these, that’s probably what I would get too.

    Jonah.. I watch a ton of your videos.. I really like the patient way you explain everything. Before venturing into these AMAZING high-end pedals, can you recommend one simple CHEAP pedal that'll improve tone as a beginner pedal to go into an amp or STRAIGHT into the PA that'll improve tone?.. if you were on a limited budget and wanted to start with JUST ONE pedal?

    • @HarmonicaRevolution
      @HarmonicaRevolution  4 місяці тому

      To be honest, I don't really know. I've had very mixed experience trying guitar pedals (which are the more affordable kind). Many straight up don't work or are way too sensitive. I would imagine any sort of cheap EQ pedal could help if you can dial in the right settings. There's plenty of cheap reverb pedals that work fine, delay as well. Distortion is really hit and miss. Most distortion pedals for guitar sound like hot garbage on harmonica. It also depends on what amp you're using, or a PA. I mostly play through a PA, and I use this full board with some extra modifications. If I was playing through a decent harmonica focus tube amp like a stage V, you really don't need any pedals.

    Really interesting video and well worth watching. It’s helped me decide which pedal to start with and I’ve not had to drive a hundred miles to find that out. I’m running the Jason Ricci Signature mike, amongst others, but some of these pedals will defo enhance the playing experience for me if not the audience 😉 Once again a really useful video.

    Thank you so much for the video, I loved it! I was really convinced on having my first LWBC pedal as the Harp Break but now I am tempted to start out with the Harp Attack or the Alpha Wolf, it is a hard choice though, while I only have a reverb one.
    By the way, video idea: You reviewed top notch harmonica pedals with the Lone Wolf. How about going through the lower end of choices? I have a Behringer DR600 Digital Reverb pedal and it surprisingly works with harmonica, you can feel some change. However, I do not own more of those guitar pedals. Since you are a guitarrist, you are for sure familiarized with those budget ones. Have you tried evaluating how do they go with harmonica?

    • @HarmonicaRevolution
      @HarmonicaRevolution  Рік тому

      I’ve tried a few, there’s just too many to review…the idea is basically: all delay and reverb pedals should work. I think compression is pretty safe too. Outside of that, you are taking your chances at pedals even working at all

    Hey Jonah, great review of these pedals. What is your favourite setting for the harp delay for playing blues?

    • @HarmonicaRevolution
      @HarmonicaRevolution  Рік тому +1

      Not really sure. I've been experimenting with it live and I'm generally finding that the best setting is to have everything dialed around the third just to get a little bit of extra thickness without much of the delay effect. I have a much more wild delay pedal in my chain, so I use that for when I want to get some real echoes, and I use this one for a tone thickener.

    I’m coming late in life to this electric harp stuff so I’m probably gonna ask a ridiculous question but where would you plug a pedal in to an amp ? I know your gonna say, in the pedal hole, but what if you don’t have one 😢Just a Jack input Can you plug in to that and link it to a mike? Or am I being a bit dumb ? Love the vids by the way 😉

    • @HarmonicaRevolution
      @HarmonicaRevolution  Рік тому +1

      You plug the mic into the pedal. If you have multiple pedals you use short quarter inch chord (a guitar cord, they have small ones for this purpose) to connect them, then you take another quarter inch cord and connect that to the amp.

      @@HarmonicaRevolution Thanks man, I’d got it into my head, via a helpful, yeah right, friend that if your amp didn’t have a foot pedal jack then you couldn’t use one but now I know different. So foot pedal into jack input, mic into pedal input and away you go ! Simples. Thanks and keep the vids going fella, love em.

    JONAH FOX, the common problem that i have is when using guitar amplifiers with a shure 58 mic that the harmonica sounds horrible. I'm trying to get that honky midrange bark tone but I'm not sure which harmonica guitar effects pedal will fix the interfacing and impedance issues to work with any guitar amplifiers input impedance with a harmonica. Do you know which pedal fixes the impedance issues and also which pedal gives that honky midrange harp tone?

    Johah do you know of anyone who has tried these foot pedals for the Violin? I am exposing my niece to foot pedals so she can see what her Violin can sound like over the stock sound as to what is possible with different sounds. They have channels on foot pedals for Violin as what you can use but I thought one of these might work too and give it an interesting/different sound. She is only 11. I'm trying to expose her to pedals to expand her playing.

      For an 11-year-old, I would instead look at some cheap multi effects pedals. Boss makes one that’s pretty reasonable if I remember right. That lets you play around with lots of different sounds. If you are thinking of just building a pedalboard for yourself and just encouraging her to use it, that’s fine too. I’m sure any of these pedals would work. They work on my guitar, they sound a little different than normal guitar pedals, but it’s not dramatically different.

      @Jonah Fox - Harmonica Revolution Thanks that helps. She is at a beginner level maybe an advanced beginner. She knows some songs and performs them live at a recital. I saw her play on her grandmother's phone with other students. She is not bad but the songs are pretty basic songs nothing flashy but she might like how it sounds all spruced up. I will give the Boss pedals a try that lets you play with different sounds would be perfect for her to master that first and get the idea of how this works before buying many pedals.

    I have most of these pedals I’m thinking of using them again. All of my live playing is straight through my lead vocal mic, I play rock blues & Neil young melody. I’m sorry but all these pedals and that microphone make the harmonica sound worse! I’m repelled by any of the strong effects and the horrible bullet mics! Listen /watch Sonny boy Williamson one of the greats: he plays directly into a clean vocal microphone and it sounds phenomenal! I’m going to keep my $1,600 worth of lone wolf pedals in the storage room! Plus all this stuff is a pain in the ass and distracts me from my performance.
    Learn how to get finesse and tone out of your instrument, don’t hide behind effects & gimmicks 😊
