payment with foreign cards have commission, bank commission and exchange commission (in most cases) so you will end up paying a lot of fees. While going to an exchange location and change your currency to JPN currency is the best option. Or withdraw bigger quantities while going to the ATM or bank. Banks like Revolut allow you to exchange to JPN free or paying almost no fee (which will lower the ATM withdraw costs). Furthermore, is very important to keep using cash as much as possible (and forget sometimes about the convenience) because stores pay high taxes for having payments with cards (and the upcoming CBDCs, also in Japan, will completely eliminate cash if we stop using it. And this can have serious implications on privacy and you could be easily censored).

great info. I will be in Tokyo for 9 days after 4 days in Osaka (where I will get my IC card). In Tokyo, I know they talk about using the IC card or just paying to get on JR (especially that loop train they have in Tokyo) but I am the type of person that is hopping on/off the subway and buses so I figure the 3 day Tokyo subway/bus pass may be better for me. Opinion?
Do the math. Mind you the 72 hours Tokyo Subway ticket is valid only on Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway lines (buses are not included, JR and other train operators are not included). There is a separate 1 day pass available for Toei buses (there are also other bus operators in some areas around Tokyo btw) and 1 day Tokyo Combination ticket which includes Tokyo Metro, Toei Subway + Toei bus + JR lines (Google for the exact list). Saying that, I personally never took a bus in Tokyo in my 6 years here and would not recommend to tourist as they are more confusing to figure out than trains. If you will move around a bit, I would probably go for the 3 day Tokyo Subway ticket but be aware of the limitation in train operators.

Hi, thank you for the nice video. I'm coming to Tokyo this May with family. Arriving at Narita Airport & stay at Asakusa. Is it possible to deliver on the same day if I use Kuroneko service?
Hi, interesting video! It seems SUICA is somewhat returning, even if in limited and unspecified amounts.... do You know if it is possible to purchase or convert a "My Suica" card? (the one with personal name printed on it and not refundable, but never expiring and replaceable if lost)??
Both unregistered and registered Suica/Pasmo cards are refundable - you get back the 500 JPY deposit + any remaining balance. However, Suica charges 220 JPY handling fee, Pasmo does not. For a short term visit, there is not much of an advantage of getting a registered card. Regular unregistered Suica card expires after 10 years from the last use. You can get those now in some big stations around Tokyo. You can also try to get a Pasmo card from the vending machines at some stations (e.g. around Denentoshi line).

No, the Tokyo Subway Pass is not valid for travel from Narita Airport to Kuramae Station using the Narita Skyaccess. The Tokyo Subway Pass only covers Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway lines within central Tokyo. For the journey from Narita Airport, you would need to purchase a separate ticket for the Narita Skyaccess line until you reach a station where the Tokyo Subway Pass is valid. Once you reach a station on the Tokyo Metro or Toei Subway lines, you can start using your Tokyo Subway Pass.
@MegLog_JAPAN one more question. Do we have to give tips to the taxi driver? How about the limousine bus driver who load and unload the luggage for you ? THANKS

@happycook6737 we are staying in Yokohama for a few days. I know there is a limo bus stop at Cup of Noodle museum. Do you know if I need to buy the return limo bus ticket at the airport or I can buy the ticket with the bus driver?
In my 8 trips to Japan since 2016 the relatively long processing wait times through immigration and customs at Narita and KIX hasn't been significantly reduced by the Visit Japan Web ... If you haven't filled out VJW or the entry forms on the plane you will experience extra delay filling out the typical forms especially if you're waiting in line for a pen 🖊️
6:50, Is this a new regulation where the Nozomi is not covered under the JR Pass? I had thought The JR Pass covers all JR network express, fast and local trains along with shinkansens :o
It was always a thing, you had to use the Hikari or Kodama lines of the Tokaido route which was slower as they have more stops. I think a new thing now though is if you have a JR pass you can get a discount on the Nozomi line
Question Meg, is there a list that specifies what businesses accept mobile IC cards for payment. On my next trip in Oct, I wanted to pay mostly using the mobile IC card, if possible. One thing I thought was nice about the mobile IC cards is that when rates are good here in the US, that's a good time to load value to the mobile IC, even if you won't use the card for months. From what I here, the rates may not be so great in Oct.

@happycook6737 we are staying in Yokohama for a few days. I know there is a limo bus stop at Cup of Noodle museum. Do you know if I need to buy the return limo bus ticket at the airport or I can buy the ticket with the bus driver?
I still have my green suica card from 2019 which I picked up from Haneda Airport. Would that still work? TIA for the reply 😊

can I use my laptop in registering to the Japan web instead of using the celphone?
Yes, you can because it is not an app but a website.
How about Narita to Osaka? Fastest suggestion to get there?
So how does the JR pass just cut out kyoto stop on the shinkansen lines?
How about a private money exchange store. Are they reliable?
You gotta check in advance! I cannot say if they are reliable but you should be fine.
Only visiting Kansai area. Best card??
ICOCA card
In my 8 trips to Japan since 2016 the relatively long processing wait times through immigration and customs at Narita and KIX hasn't been significantly reduced by the Visit Japan Web ... If you haven't filled out VJW or the entry forms on the plane you will experience extra delay filling out the typical forms especially if you're waiting in line for a pen 🖊️
Hi Meg is there a shuttle bus from Narita Airport to Ueno area? My hotel is Ueno Hotel right down the streets from Ueno Station and Ueno Park.
Yes, but probably you should use Keisei Skyliner
6:50, Is this a new regulation where the Nozomi is not covered under the JR Pass? I had thought The JR Pass covers all JR network express, fast and local trains along with shinkansens :o
It was always a thing, you had to use the Hikari or Kodama lines of the Tokaido route which was slower as they have more stops. I think a new thing now though is if you have a JR pass you can get a discount on the Nozomi line
Excellent Video.
I want to enjoy trip to Kobe. Do you have any tour plan available?
Thanks. Can you please inquire about the tours from here?

How long can you stay without a visa on arrival?
It should be up to 90 days. Please check the official website.
From what I here, the rates may not be so great in Oct.
bring enough cash. japan is not really cashless and will not be for reasons
@@yuka-youtube definitely, cash where ic is not accepted 👍🏽
Mobile Suica is one of the famous apps. Here, please check out their website. They accept cash basically.

For tourists?
The website is now providing an App to download for iPhone and Android. I had deleted the app but when I was finalizing my information the same website gave me the option to download the app. I hope it the Japan Website recently change it to where there is an app, as I just downloaded the app yesterday March 4th 2024 and completed my QR code from the app. any updates as of today will be appreciated. I dont want my information out there in the dark web
i am a japanese. japan has very bad data management for government level. if you are very careful, don’t use digital data for japanese government. it’s not trustworthy. i am not japan hater, but i notice they really really have technical problems ironically. always prefer paper.
@@yuka-youtube Thank you so much for the information. I deleted the app the same day I wrote the comment. I better listen to a native person like you. Thank you again :)
@@yahairaacevedo668 hi, it's not like jp gov has malicious intent. it's more like they outsource everything to korea or china. as a result, they have no idea what they are doing. never use line either. some data servers are in korea. i try to use digital less every day. if i am lost, i just ask people around. usually they are mildly gentle.
Love my country ❤❤❤❤❤
