I stayed at Hotel East 21, near the Skytree. The hotel staff gave me a recommendation for a store that was cheaper than Daiso! I forgot the name of the store, but it was near the hotel. Also, I purchased the Shinkansen 7-day pass in advance because I reserved day trips to Hiroshima, Kyoto, and Osaka.

We were in Japan in October we saw a lot while there, We got to visit a lot of different places, it was amazing to see how many tourists were in Japan, I was very surprised as I never saw that many when I was in Japan in the past. Nara was on our list but we were talking to some locals in Osaka and they said there have been a lot of deer attacks and warned us not to go, glad we took the advice. We made a lot of new friends and can't wait to go back! Japan truly is a beautiful country!

People constantly claim that JR pass is too expensive. Keep in mind however that basically EVERY JR train is free with the JR Pass. I had the complete Japan pass and it even worked on some busses in Hiroshima. So if you'll be traveling around the whole country and riding the shinkansen more than 4-5 times for stuff like the golden triangle destinations than it's completely worth it.

Surprisingly there were a number of them even in the tourist areas It’s also interesting noticing what’s made it over here to the states. In the LA area there’s multiple Kura restaurants here and there’s also a daiso really close to me.

The touts were everywhere in Shinjuku a couple months ago, when I was there. Sometimes there's a japanese person standing nearby with a sign that basically says something to the effect of, "What this person is doing is illegal. Do not go with them". Basically if a person (especially if NON-japanese person) is trying to get you to go to their bar or club, ignore them. 99 times out of 100 times, they're trying to scam you.

Can you recommend any specific great value stores in Tokyo? I'd like to add their address to my map for a trip I am taking in March.

If you lose the welcome suica card you cannot get any balance back even if you have the information of the card number.

i think you forgot to mention a CON for the Suica mobile app that does not work on our android phones from our country...we must have iPhones for it to work...Cheers from Canada

Is there a specific train card you recommend to use around in Fukuoka? I still have my Suica card from last year and I plan to use to it. We are looking forward to exploring Fukuoka next year!
