It's a 1.4... if you want to race, buy a 2.0 tfsi. This engine gets really good MPG + it's more than decent for someone who wants to get from A to B with a decent speed.

@@arxhgobabasgt9696 It will need more maintenance than a standard, say, Corolla engine. Meaning changing the oil every 5k miles (not 10k like they say), carbon cleaning the engine at 70k miles, changing the "lifetime" (lol) timing belt preventatively at 80-90k miles along with the water pump, and then of course you will need to replace the turbo at 125k - 150k miles (I have seen them last to 200k miles, but it's a risk in my opinon). So is it a cheap engine? No lol. VWs are not cheap to maintain. But yes, they are very, very reliable if you do the maintenance that, honestly most regular car buyers will never do.

@Jack Beanstalk take a look over the dyno run graphs, you really have to push that engine in rev to get some power. for an A1 1.4 should be enough but for A4, its overkill. you need at least 2.0 with 250nm

Its actually because they produce cars having lot of engine options and to produce a different speedometer foe each model would be very expensive so they use same speedometers in base a5 and top of the line a5
