Thank you so much for this video im thinking of a new used sled next year off kijiji and i had no clue what to look for except i already knew out of so many complaints with most of all the 800 rev motors blow once on skidoo's everytime and now i know what to look for thanks!
Nice Video Louis, I should've watched this Before I bought my terd VMax. From a monetary standpoint, I got Ripped Off Bad!! lol and sinking more $ into it every day it seems,, but I have to say though, even though so far it has been an Expensive Nightmare Sled, I am grateful for the amount of knowledge I have gained going through the entire sled and fixing and correcting everything I have found wrong with it from the inside out including clutches, carbs, brakes, suspension,,you name it, I had to go through it and I am confident that it will be a great running sled when its all said and done. You have also inspired me to do a whole rear suspension swap into the sled. I'm hoping that it will be a night and day difference as far as ride quality, comfort and suspension travel. Wish me luck.
thanks man! as a broke college kid looking to buy a sled in the next few years i find this to be useful for when i get my own! my last sled had jetting issues and i was gonna be out 3g but the owner bought it back
I'm new to PowerModz and your videos. All I can say is you have an incredible amount of patience. With a Sled like that, I wouldn't buy it. All those parts cost coin $$$ unless you have access to a snowmobile graveyard!
Thanks a lot for sharing this, I'm looking at buying a sled yet its a daunting endeavor. I might just rent after seeing this. lol. Great info though, much appreciated
Sometimes I wonder if I should maybe consider a new sled for a first sled... This video helped me, though, as far as what to look for on a used machine. Thanks!
Great video . I just baught a 2004 gsx 800 ho blair morgan edition its reading 9k but the guy rebuilt the motor has the nos kit also im running a 50psi bottle
Man I wish I could buy a hour of this guys time to look at a sled or two with me offered on Kijiji for what seems like to good to be true 'deals" if I had this sled genius with me I know if we walked away with a sled, it'd be the right sled for the right price
Yes it is important to do maintenance, just make sure that if you see a sled and you are questioning the condition - and the chaincase has fresh oil in it - then be wary. Thanks for watching!
Great vid Louis! I liked the 800 in my 2002 zx till it blew the head gaskets, started eating recoils like they were made of plastic (which they are) and finally blew the right side piston skirt off and ran it through the bottom end essentially grenading the motor. Still have the chassis sitting at my folks house cause I don't know what else to do with it. You are going to live that Rev though!
Great vid you will live the rev. I liked the 800 in my 2002 zx till it blew my Head gaskets and started eating the recoils like they were made of plastic (which they are) finally it blew the right pistons skirt off and destroyed the motor because one of the oiler lines was popped off. Still have the chassis because I dint know what to do with it.
Last year, I bought an '03 Renegade X 600 off a guy for $1000. It was half buried in snow at this point of the year, and I knew the guy hadn't used it in over a year and a half. When we got it home, we found out that the nun was cracked off, the bulkhead was pushed back 2 1/2 inches, and the A-arm was bent. Myself (13 at the time), my uncle and my dad had quite the bonding experience over the 2 months we worked on it to say the least.
Hey great video. I think though that if you are getting a really good deal on a sled then be prepared to spend money obviously. You cant also expect though to get a perfect new sled or rebuilt older one for dirt cheap.
kinda fell in love with the colors, i've got a 03 440 600 mod, was thinking about plasti dipping the hood and center console white. now that i see the green i take that back
when it idles for a minute how do the plugs look - do they both look the same or is one darker than the other? is the side the pto side? you might have a lean condition from the seal on the pto side crank. id check that, also check compression. or, if that is ok, then check your carbs to make sure they are clean - and by clean i mean the proper method of cleaning:)
Check your plugs and spark. If your spark is weak or the plug is different from the other plug, change the plug. If that's not it, check compression. If your compression is bad, try honing both cylinders and new slightly oversized piston rings. that should do the trick.
the issue with that sled why it was probably was pulled apart is because the reason they had the Beaver tail design was because the heat exchanger was so small that when they raised the backs up they tended to blow up.
Thinking about buying my first snowmobile. It's a 2006 skidoo mxz-x 800 with 7400 miles on it for $2,400. Would you say thats a a fair deal and what should I look for. I'm going to be using it mostly in my backyard for my backyard snowboarding terrain park. Thought that was a reasonable price also it's a lot easier than building a launch ramp lol. Im well aware of how much power it has. With having almost 3 acres of land down there we'll have a little bit of fun with it in the backyard. Will probably end up doing some trail/ Frozen lake riding
Man this video makes me nervous of buying my first 21 century sled. Im looking at 06 summit 800. From what i read the 06 is a good year. The guy wants $3000 US dollars. i definitely will be talking him down due to it having 3200 miles on it. thanks for the tips on what to look for! In your opinion if it hasn't had the top end rebuilt yet would it be a good idea to do it?
hello my northern friend..i'm having an electrical problem that i cant chase down. hopefully you can give me some insight. its a 1999 polaris super sport 550 that i got for free. pto side cylinder was smoked due to the oil pump being clogged. long story short. after a complete engine rebuild i have no spark.tried plugs, new/used stator, new ignition switch. kill switch checked out everything seems ok. i did clean the stator with carb cleaner to remove all the oil res. could the carb cleaner short out the stator? because my next step is getting a brand new stator if thats the case...any input would be great.
I have a mountain cat 600 with very soft rear suspension. I took the shock off and it is easy to compress. I can almost bottom it by pressing it against the flore. my question is, do i need a new shok or new springs?
If i have a 1997 polaris indy 500 with extra 10 and a 121.. If I was to get a new track what would you recommend and would my sled with 5xxx miles be worth putting a 2003 polaris xc edge suspension??
Its not a big sled but I kinda wana do a sleeper build, its a 2001 polaris 500 rmk it rips its my first sled . And I love speed so just reduce weight and a exsaust system?
i have a chance to buy a 05 mxz renegade sdi for $1200 but the tunnel is bent where it connects to the bulkhead like on yours should i get it i am mechanically inclined was it difficult to straighten on yours thx
if you had to use that 800 motor could it ever be rebuilt to be reliable or is it a lost cause thanks your channel really got me back it to selds again
Can you confirm that the 04 800ho just has an O-ring of sort for head gasket? Maybe copper or some kind or soft metal? Diagrams are messing with my mind.
love all your videos! teaching me lots of mods for my zx. if you are gonna scrap your zx will you be willing to sell me you trailing arms and fox shocks?
i just sold my 05 panther Arct cat. was looking to buy a new used machine. which would last longest and run best 04 skidoo summit 800, or 04 polaris pro x2 600?
lite was up on maitnence and it was very clean and the oil was changed it had a nice belt and my new indy 500 had a bad belt and we had to replace it and it was not up on matnice and the chaincase took 1 hour to clean this milky green crap all over it. It needs to be done or you end up with something like my sled although it is awsome the matnice is extreemly important. If i wasnt someone who liked working an sleds that thing would cost a few hundred dollars and it is very important to do matnic
PowerModz, love your video's when looking at buying a new used sled for the family to use and learn off of how old of a sled would you buy before you just say that it's too old and what model would you suggest for a couple of boys between 14-16 years of age??? I totally understand and agree with needing to put in about $1,000.00-$1,500.00 once buying one.. Thanks For your help ahead of time...
I grew up with yamaha and now have a Polaris edge XC 600. I have been told that the liberty is the most reliable engine Polaris ever had in their sleds. This was on a Polaris forum. Is this true?
Hey I just want to say thank you. I'm getting a sled tomorrow and I Learned I lot.
Thank you so much for this video im thinking of a new used sled next year off kijiji and i had no clue what to look for except i already knew out of so many complaints with most of all the 800 rev motors blow once on skidoo's everytime and now i know what to look for thanks!

Thanks, for making video's like this for people just getting into the sport.
I'm new to PowerModz and your videos. All I can say is you have an incredible amount of patience. With a Sled like that, I wouldn't buy it. All those parts cost coin $$$ unless you have access to a snowmobile graveyard!

A mxz of your choice is a epic trail machine. If you want a nice motor, look at the 600 e-tec. Very nice sleds
awesome! lots of good information, that will come in handy.
8:38 The dog Appears and he's pissed!
He just knew the sled was crap.
Ya even the dog knew,
Thanks a lot, very informational.

Excellent, Thank you very much ! From someone that knows absolutely nothing about these things "Me" Its very interesting

Nice guide!
yes
Sound like a sweet deal, if it is good condition.
loved it good vid!
Your vids are super helpful! I cracked my idler wheel this weekend, any chance of a how to change vid while you are tearing down that 03?
Nice!

i have that same sled 2003 800 rev.the only thing i dont like it the beaver tail for backing up. but they water cross like a seadoo

Can you confirm that the 04 800ho just has an O-ring of sort for head gasket? Maybe copper or some kind or soft metal? Diagrams are messing with my mind.
Just bought a 2007 ski doo summit x for 4k with 2,400 miles did I get a good deal or no? Top end was rebuilt last year aswell

Are the skidoo 600 revs any good with the Motor I am looking to buy a sled but I don’t know what to get
i just sold my 05 panther Arct cat. was looking to buy a new used machine. which would last longest and run best 04 skidoo summit 800, or 04 polaris pro x2 600?

i am looking into an 05 mxz x 600 sdi what psi in each cylinder should it have?
Thanks for watching!
Question here
What's the average mileage before your average 2 stroke sled blows up (without maintenance) just gas n' let er' rip?
don't forget to make shure the VIN on the frame accually matches the ownership.. i almost got burnt on a seld like that..
PowerModz, love your video's when looking at buying a new used sled for the family to use and learn off of how old of a sled would you buy before you just say that it's too old and what model would you suggest for a couple of boys between 14-16 years of age??? I grew up with yamaha and now have a Polaris edge XC 600.
I have been told that the liberty is the most reliable engine Polaris ever had in their sleds. This was on a Polaris forum. Is this true?
