This brings me back to my childhood in Singapore 😭 Everytime there was a 'pasar malam' (night market) in the neighbourhood, my mum and I would go get little Muah Chee nuggets covered in ground peanuts and sugar, dragon's beard, steamed chickpeas and boiled peanuts. Living in London for the last 7 years has made me miss the simple pleasures of home.
Thanks for this recipe! You thought it was so strechy, it was going to look "ugly?" 🙂 I nearly fainted from joy just by looking at all that chewy goodness, so tomorrow I'll be trying to BITE off my mochis instead of losing time with forks and knives. 🌹 (The only reason I am not making them now is that it is already well past midnight here in Switzerland.)
It's very similar to Philippine palitaw/dila-dila which is rice dough flattened and boiled as well. It is usually served with toasted sesame and coconut but roasted peanut topping is present in some areas as well.
Ooh this is quite similar to palitaw, one of my favorite Filipino snacks. We make the rice cakes flatter, like a tongue, & cover them in grated coconut, sugar, & toasted sesame seeds. Will definitely try the peanut one.
Yum! i will definitely give it a try, we normally eat it with a sweet filling. Beautiful pan by the way! Although we are not Asian we absolutely love the texture.
Greetings from Orlando!! Ive written this down to try and make. It seems so much easier than the steaming or microwave version. You didnt add sugar to the rice flour. Is it sweet enough on its own? Ive seen videos that call for a quarter cup of sugar all the way up to 2:1 sugar to rice flour, that seems insipidly sweet lol
The other day my sister tried to make tteok and it didn't really work out, but I only realized until I boiled them into a soup and... Well, she accidentally made boiled mochi! 😆
Hi! Can you add filling into this? Or will it turn out bad because it is going to be boiled? Thank you! We are currently experimenting with an Entrepreneurship product at school😭

wow!!! you make it look so easy!
Looks amazing! I have seen circular versions where there make an indent in the middle so it cooks more evenly (ensures middle is cooked through).
love this! and simple yet yummy
Oooo I cannot wait to try this! Thank you!
Yuuum thank you for sharing, you always have the best recipes!
Yummmmm!! This is how I make mine too! It's easier and tasty. Sometimes I just steam them in my rice cooker too from dough form

Mochiiiiii! Love it. 😘
Can you make these and keep them in the fridge (if they’re not all eaten)?

So...no seasoning the rice flour? Just water to bind? Why wouldn't you mix in stuff like a bit of salt or sugar there?
I guess I'm just so accustomed to seeing recipes say you need to season your flour that I was surprised to not see it here.
i don't know why but everything which is related with Japan.. reminds me about shinchan Doraemon kochikame and perman
