Nintendo would totally release it of they could, but they don't know how to emulate their own games. The NSO emulator is stolen from other emulators other people have made and since DK64 runs like hot garbage on all other known emulators, not coming to NSO
Hey, debunking a slight myth that comes up in this conversation. There has never been any categorical proof that DK64 has a memory leak based on continuous playtime. DK64 isn't the *best* programmed game and people do occasionally run into crashes as a result, and write that off as "because of the memory leak" because they had been playing for 10h straight or something like that. In fact, there are 101% runs that are way longer than any quoted memory leak timeframe that don't crash.
@@Ballaam my comment disappeared because of a link I sent, I’m aware on N64 this wasn’t a big thing. There definitely was an issue on the Wii U version with the emulation and save states. People referred to it as a memory leak. It could be an entirely seperate issue from the original. Nintendo having issues with emulation, imagine that. There is a reddit thread for DK64 on Wii U talking about it. That is what I tried to link.
@@jiggylookback I don't think it's time based on Wii U either. I know the reddit thread you're talking about, and it's very plausible that it's something other than a memory leak
Well the Microsoft acquisition was also thr downfall of rare internally. A lot of the talent ended up leaving rare soon after making it a shell of its former self. Goes to show that the studios are only as good as the talent it has. So who knows what could have been if rare went with nintendo, but if the talent left either way. Rare wouldnt be as big anyways. You gotta remember that platformers were also on the decline after the n64 generation. Rare would've probably survived but who knows if their impact would've stayed the same
I’m still holding out hope for a Switch release of Rare Replay that’ll include the Rare-made Nintendo-IP games (DKC1-3, DKR, DK64 and StarFox Adventures) plus the GBA Banjo games, since Rare’s recent relationship with Nintendo’s very amicable.
@diegomedina9637 it's wishful thinking but a rare replay would mean that we can keep the gam3s forever, instead of it being server based (which can be taken away whenever they feel like it)
That would be amazing! I'm curious about Adventures though. I guess the next addition to NSO would be Gamecube games. But that could take a couple years to release! who knows
Here’s some ideas I have for a DK64 remaster: 1. At least 2 new worlds. Maybe like a Sky or Outer Space level, and a Volcano level with little Dogadon’s as enemies (maybe make him the boss of only that level). 2. On that note, new bosses for certain levels (obviously Angry Aztec and Fungi Forest would need new ones), but some other levels could too. 3. New abilities and ways to differentiate shared abilities like you guys mentioned with the guns. Would also like to see each Kong’s instruments do different things unique to each character. 4. Expand all levels to include new areas, several of which could be used for… 5. DIXIE KONG JOINS THE CREW!!! Could have her items color-coded Pink. 6. New mini-games for bonus barrels, and improvements on the existing ones. 7. Tag Barrel anywhere (I didnt mind how it was done in the original, but I know a lot of people want this) 8. A multiplayer story mode for up to 6 players where everyone selects a different Kong to play as when entering a level, and does the tasks for their Kong. Could also have a HUD that shows each Kongs Golden Banana progress, and a mini map in the pause menu that shows where each player is in the level. For parties with less than 6, the Kong’s not being used can be taken over by anyone at any time. Screw the haters. MORE content!!! MORE collectibles!!!!
Unfortunately, DK64 love is the minority now. It seems like it's the cool thing to bash this game right now :( I'd buy this game again in whatever form it took though, remake, remaster, or re-release
Dude DK 64 was my first ever 3D video game. Going from 2D to 3D is a jump kids today just can't have. So yeah I'd pay a full $80 for a port of DK 64 just for that nostalgia aspect.
@@Oldirtycrza The reason is the back tracking makes this game too long. However you don't have to 100%, and you can use Lanky Kong's stretchy arms to. bypass the B lockers and enter the next world.
Given how the Wii U VC port ran (Specifically in the minigames) that might have something to do with it. For anyone who doesn't know the Wii U VC port ran mostly normally for the most part except in some of the minigames which ran at what I can only accurately describe as "ludicrous speed" to the point where if you were not abusing the save points inbetween each point or round you were not gonna beat em. It was far too quick for any human to keep up with.
Was going to post this comment. Some of the mini games are basically impossible. I mean, Yoshi's Wooly world, Windows Waker and DK 64 are the only reason I still have my Wii U set up
Yup. I played on the Wii U and, I didn't know this was a thing at the time as not many people really reported on it. I basically had to pause buffer some of the target/shooting games. It just seemed impossible otherwise.
This is 10% discussion on the reasons why Nintendo doesn't put DK 64 and 90% wishful thinking. Companies only do something if they think it will make a profit, nothing else matters, from entertainment to human life.
The game sold 5 million units on the n64. Considering the n64 sold around 32 million units in its lifetime it's very impressive. People seem to forget the ps1 destroyed the n64 in terms of sales. So back to dk64 it definetly sold great. There is definetly a market for a dk64 remaster or a sequel.
it sold more than Banjo as well. Like, DK64 did well in sales at the time and had great reviews. Also, it's Donkey Kong! One of their biggest series. One would think they would be on top of this right away, idk
@@TheLonelyGoomba except they did rerelease dk64 on the wii u vc and they did release the arcade version of dk in the eshop so whatever issue with the arcade game is gone now
why a remake could be one of the funniest things in the universe: beating its own Guinness world record of amount of collectibles years later by adding even more collectibles. "THIS WASN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM!"
DK 64 Deluxe "We added an invisible platinum banana to every world, a sixth color of banana and banana coin, which you can only pick up by glitching Krusha into single player, and another golden banana to every level, that only Krusha can get. Good luck, players."
Changing the path of the bananas is a must, as well as more player change barrels. I remember being annoyed having to constantly go back to change characters.
I'm way way more optimistic about DK. I think they're holding off on this game till the next mainline DK is close to releasing, so it's more relevant and also serves to promote Donkey Kong in general to get people interested. I just feel like, you don't invest in a DK theme park if you don't intend to release a game in the immediate future. There's also rumours of a DK movie in the works. I personally suspect a new DK is in development now for the Switch 2 *cough* developed by Nintendo EPD *cough*. Anyway my point is, you're talking about them putting aside DK but nothing outside of the games really feels like that. And even then there's been two ports to Switch.
I love the optimism, Goomba! And I can agree that the theme park and movie are great signs of more to come. This has certainly been a better year for DK
If "Donkey Kong 64" got a physical release on Switch & still included the complete arcade "Donkey Kong", I'd finally buy the console. Other physical re-releases that would get me to finally buy a Switch would be the original "Animal Crossing" (with the NES games included). "Star Wars Rebel Strike: Rogue Squadron 3" (with the arcade games included). "Lost In Shadow". "You, Me, & The Cubes". Still upset "Seasons Of Heaven" was cancelled. :(

This is the style content I dig. Great video, guys! I think DK64 in some form is only a matter of time and coming sooner than later. (Personally, I think it will be NSO)
@@superjoebros64 I've been watching a young UA-camr's blind playthrough of the Wii U port from 7 years ago. If it ran on that, Switch wouldn't be a problem at all, especially since the Banjo duology runs just fine on NSO.
11:15 The Expention pak requirement is actually related to that bug. The game can actually run without the pak, but the expention pak increase the 13 hour thing to a time so unbelivably long the bug might just not exist at all.
@superjoebros64 sorry. I worded that wrong. I meant that the game COULD run without th expension pak, but the devs made it mandatory because of the bug. What I meant is that specs-wise, the N64 would be capable of running the gane without tbe expensionj Pak
ay.. some good points were made in this vid but i think Nintendo is holding off releasing DK64 on NSO just yet.. i think we’re looking at a new DK game launching on the switch 2 and they’ll drop this once thats announced to build hype or bundle it in with that game as a remastered version. cant wait for it to come back either way 👌🏼
They’re either saving it for the end of the switches lifespan to make us all go, “oooo! Okay nintendo, we forgive the lack of new games,” or it will be a launch drop for Switch 2 Online to make us buy that service.
That's the way I see it too. I don't know if it would be an entirely new service only available to Switch 2. Especially the way they keep adding titles to NSO. But then again, money 🤷♂️
if they do remake dk64 I don't think they would put the original on nso too, my reasoning is that they remade Super Mario RPG and still haven't put the original on there
I think DK64 would benefit so much from a remake rather than an NSO port, if only to allow for quality of life mods like (and I cannot emphasise enough how much of a literal game changer this would be) removing the Nintendo Coin as a requisite for finishing the game. That said, I think it's more likely that Nintendo would add DK64 to NSO than remaking it (or they might remake it but without any significant changes, besides maybe online multiplayer) as an easy win for them to buy some time between now and Switch 2. My idea for a sequel would be to have a multiplayer co-op mode. You could still switch between Kongs to be able to finish the game solo, or you could play with friends and each could be a different Kong (which would save a bunch of time backtracking/switching).

I’m so glad fine gentleman such as yourselves are having these sort of great conversations. I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees things this way when it comes to DK64 and it’s much needed re-release and remake!
If they bring back Diddy Kong Racing it needs to be the original and not the DS version. Taj The Genie used to have an accent and they removed it in the DS version!
of course itd be the Original version-- there isnt a "DS Library" on the Switch, the way there is for N64...so if DKR is coming at all, itd be more likely to be the N64 version, complete with its Original Audio (for example, Yoshi's Voice isnt "re-dubbed" in the Mario Party/Kart games to use the Yoshi's Story voice, they still have the Yoshi's Island noises)
they have majora's mask and perfect dark so the expansion thing is a non issue, all emulators have the expansion toggle. my guess would eb a remake/remaster or a sequel of some sort.
For a DK 64 remake, I think the biggest change required is a mini map. Even add in color banana and other items in the mini maps once revealed. The other thing I would change is kinda like an everywhere tag barrel. Allow players to swap characters without a tag barrel and all current damage stays. So that will help players not need to backtrack. However it still keeps a use to the tag barrels with the health health.
I don't understand everyone's gripe with the tag barrel? As someone who grew up playing it and recently went back to it and 101% it I really don't understand it. The tag barrels are in every main area of every level. So whenever you enter a new main area in the level. For instance in Jungle Japes there are four different tag barrels. One in the beginning, one a little later in the level, one near Crankey's, and one in that area to the left of the later part of the level.
@ravenfelter3055 My gripe is honestly backtracking. Sure, in the grand scheme of things, it's honestly not a big deal. However, when you're an adult, full time job, married, and with children; the hour of video games you get once or twice a week is small. Those few mins of backtracking can take up to 10 to 15 mins of valuable gameplay. Plus, going back to a level half beaten a week later can be frustrating. My suggestion of allowing a none healing swap without a barrel would simply be a quality of life update that can be ignored. The other gripe is modern Nintendo games. They are too accessible for games like DK 64. My soon to be 5 year old beat Mario Odyssey and is dose well with Banjo Kazooie. But he loves Donkey Kong, and he's played Donkey Kong 64 on the Wii U. He gets frustrated when he finds collectibles he can not access. Sure you and I handled it back in the old days, but this isn't the old days anymore. Going from a 3D platformer like Mario Odyssey to Donkey Kong 64 isn't easy and I know this first hand as a Father. My son "beat" the 1st 2 worlds of DK 64 and I had to take over and deal with the back tracking. So yeah for people like us who grew up with DK 64 the Tag barrel dosen't feel like a big deal. But unfortunately we are not the only gamers anymore and if we want newer gamers to enjoy classic games we need to implement better accessibility that take modern games in mind.
@matthewvandyk7773 I can understand where you're coming from with that approach. In that light I agree with you. Although I would say a way to appease both sides of that spectrum would be to add in a toggle. Something in the options that allows you to switch between the two at a whim. Basically you could play the game the old way or play it the new way. I'd implement it the way that most new remakes of Nintendo games do it now where the new way to play it is offered as the first option and then you toggle the old way on right at that moment or later on if you don't feel it at that moment.
@ravenfelter3055 a toggle like thst is what I would want as well. However knowing Nintendo they'd probably go with a New mode and a Original mode like with returns and Tropical freeze.
part of the challenge is that you've to memorize the position of different things to come back later with the right kong, so it feels like a quest rather than a linear stage, the tag everywhere mod kinda breaks the spirit of the game in that sense, I wouldn't call it a QoL mod at all, it's more like a cheaty mod.
There's a few places in the game where the pacing does buckle under the chokehold of tag barrels, but at large I agree. Once you start realizing the way the game is gonna progress, you start taking mental notes on everything you encounter and can't deal with right now, and getting a new ability on a Kong makes you run through all those. It's not the best game to play with a guide, since that DOES just make it feel like endless backtracking, but playing the game organically kinda FEELS like metroidvania progression, with a larger focus on your memory, since the worlds are so intricate, and there's, at any given moment, 4 entire Kongs of stuff to remember to come back for, plus whatever your current Kong can't do yet. It's a fantastic game for lateral thinking
Imagine instead of Krusha gathering bananas, he has to gather meaty drumsticks because he's a carnivore. Plus he shares an ammo pool between orangeades and bazooka shots. His instrument would be a trumpet, and he plays that military morning tune you hear when the Drill Sarge wakes up the whole platoon. What kind of objectives and enemies should he be going after, since he's a Kremling and not a Kong?
I think theres two reasons ... 1. The game had a memory leak. And i think this could cause problems with the rewind feature. 2. There are Rare games within the code to DK64 ( like Jetpac) and it's possible that Rare doesnt wanna license those games out. As far as Diddy King Racing goes, i think the fact that Conker is in it. Maybe thats why? Who knows. (I posted this before i finished the video. Gah)
DK 64 was massive. Like so massive that it destroys an entire game type. (3D third person platformer) so I understand why they don't want to. It took me 3 years and I still didn't beat it. 1 when I was little and gave up half way. The second i made it further but gave up. And the third I was a adult and made it all the way to the end but gave up at the banana time door. It's massive and very time consuming for novice players
They need to hire people who love DK64 to make a sequel, who understand this "Rareware" style of making games (about the Fur, need to be like TF or Star Fox Adventure, not just a texture)
The comment about Nintendo just giving a few people to work on projects like Donkey Kong reminds me of Pikmin. Miyamoto said Pikmin 4 would be ready soon because he had a few people working on just that for the time being, the problem is they kept getting pulled to other projects so it took them about 10 years
@superjoebros64 alternatively, maybe Nintendo had some people working on Donkey Kong these past few years that got moved around. That would explain what Retro Studios had been up to before having to rework Metroid Prime since they went for about 6 years without announcing a new game. Maybe they started a sequel to Tropical Freeze and once Metroid Prime 4 is completed, they can finish that. That's my wish/copium.
One thing I noticed about a couple other recent remakes is the emphasis on rebooting their multiplayer mode, which kinda goes along with what you guys were saying about the focus on multiplayer games. Kirby RtDL Deluxe completely revamped the sub games and added a whole extra mode for it. Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania went all out on advertising the mini games. Obviously those are different devs, but DK64's multiplayer actually seems ripe for a reboot. So I think if they did a remake of DK64, the main game would stay mostly the same mechanically (maybe some QoL differences like less bananas being required for the medals in each level, coins being universal currency instead of Kong specific, and just completely removing the Nintendo and Rareware coins), but the multiplayer mode is where we'd get more of the "modern" touches added. More playable characters like Dixie, Cranky, and Funky to keep up with the "modern DK" quintet, more maps (maybe even using the full levels for large scale matches), an online mode, etc. You guys aren't ready for DK64 Battle Royale, dropping in on DK Isle and looting all of the different characters' guns, with new orange grenade variants, ammo, etc. Would be kinda hilarious. But like it actually seems like a lot of devs opt to make the existing multiplayer mode into the "sandbox" that they mess around with in a port/remake, while the rest of the game stays mostly the same. Either way I think your guess that DK64/Diddy Kong Racing won't be coming to NSO before the Switch 2 is a fair guess. They definitely need some headliners for the next generation of it, especially considering they've since confirmed that NSO is here to stay for future consoles. That has to be part of the reason they're still holding back on some of the best selling classics like these two games and Smash 64, or at least partly why they're not rushing to get them out. Pokémon is a different beast entirely but those are obviously some other big name games that haven't showed up yet outside of spinoffs. I think NSO for Switch 2 will focus mostly on bringing the Gamecube games (and eventually Wii/DS games) to the platform as Switch 2 exclusives, but N64 and prior consoles will still get updates that are playable on the first Switch, like DK64. We can only wait and see. I know you said this discussion happened in September, so quite a bit of news has come out since then actually. I'm sure you'll be on top of it lol
Oh man I would totally try out DK battle Royale haha. I won't be good at it but I'd try it! Well like you said, some time has passed since this conversation. New games have been added which gives us even more hope!
I have another theory that they could be holding DK64 to release along with the Universal Studios Japan DK Country Land launching with the Super Nintendo World.
I am straight up not even a DK fan(Never played any of the games), but even I want it to finally show up. I can clearly see how much the game matters to the fans and I wouldn't want my favorite games to be missing either, so I have an easy time having sympathy towards you guys.
heck yeah! That's kind of the beauty with NSO. You can try out these old games that you never got to play. You might really like DK64! But we won't know until it's added 😒
Nintendo watches this video: "omg! They so correct, we can't launch it on nso, memory pack won't fit console 😢" Nso packaging team: "but sir it's bean ready for launch since 2021". Nintendo: "what should we do, won't fit, can't launch it 😢😢"
You asked so Dixie is already fully grown, in DKC3 Swanky says that minors aren't allowed on this attraction so only Dixie can participate and not Kiddy. Diddy and Dixie are over 18, but just short, that's why they don't change and Tiny does. Is Tiny a different species? Well.. is _Luigi?_ In the world of Nintendo the younger sibling just grows taller... live with it. She was already a head taller than Diddy, and therefore Dixie in DK64.
I'm curious how old you folks are, and your history with the game? I'm hitting 30 here, so this game hit me right in my 5-8 year old years and I kept coming back. So I'm just aware where this game hit me at the "right age" so to speak....... Yet, there is still nothing that gives me the feelings this one gives me. I genuinely think it's great, and it's nice to see the negative sentiments online turning to videos celebrating it. I take it with it's negatives. I'm aware of general n64 camera issues that are in it, Dk Arcade coin, Beaver Bother and the Rabbit Race (especially on the WiiU), and I love it knowing I will have to tackle those less-than-ideal challenges. Original question - one of you, or both at least sounds like you might be younger than me, which begs the question of how and when you played it. It's a good mark if you did pick it up later and enjoy it!
I’m 36 and had this game when I was in six grade, and I preferred playing Banjo. The mini games of the arcade high scores just made me rage quit. DK is unfortunately the only game I can say I didn’t beat, and I refuse to beat it.
We're both a similar age to you! We both grew up playing this game the Christmas after it was released, and played this game to death haha. On both our channels, we talk about this game a lot because we believe it's a great game, and doesn't deserve all of the hate that can be seen online. We're just eager to see this game hit NSO. We just find it so odd that it, amongst other games, haven't been added after all these years.
@@superjoebros64 Yeah totally fair haha. I don’t necessarily love NSO itself. I have 4 different styles of modern n64 controllers and I have it on WiiU which fixes framerate if you’ve tried it? I have to remap the c stick to L1, R1, x and y but it runs amazingly. Only problem is a bug that makes the rabbit race brutal on Wiiu. I also received this Christmas release year. May be the best gift I’ve gotten as a result.
@superjoebros64 all good. Now that I think about it. Earthbound can use a remake as well. Played it for a little bit on the switch super nes. Can you imagine how I'd look on switch?
@superjoebros64 Ah it's ok, I missed Pokemon Crystal on the 3DS. Stupid me, I chose Gunstar Heroes 3D instead. Yes I do have the DS remakes, but the soundtrack is not entirely the same, some are reimagined.
Who cares? Paying potentially 50 or 100 times the actual price of the game over the course of years only for them to permanently take it away from you later is stupid. I wanna know why it was never properly re-released.
Hey any conversation about DK is great imo not enough people online are talking Donkey Kong, it’s great to see other content creators talking about the franchise! I enjoyed this conversation immensely and wanted to throw in my 2 cents. Trust me I’m a jaded and cynical fan when it comes to Donkey Kong….. but I disagree with the notion that Nintendo doesn’t know what to do with Donkey Kong, I do at one point believe that Nintendo didn’t know what to do but I think this is the beginning of the turn around, Nintendo is finally seeing what they need to do with the franchise and that’s to embrace the Rare elements that they tried so hard to remove. Kremlings, extended Kongs, animal buddies, this is stuff they tried to move away from during the GC era and they somewhat played coy with these elements in DKCR and TF, but then K.Rool came back in Smash and was a HUGE success, now he’s got NSO profile pics, he’s on the wall at the Nintendo museum and not even 3 months after he was in smash he was in a DK calendar, Nintendo is slowly getting him back out there.. Chunky Kong and Swanky appeared in the Mario movie, acknowledging kongs beyond the 5 that showed up inTF. Of course the big thing is the theme park. Nintendo is going to get back to where Donkey Kong was at its most successful it took them 20 years but they finally figured out embracing what was working in the 90s is going to be what works again. Keep the DK franchise consistent and stop with this change in style/enemies/gameplay. From now on I think we’re going to see DK platformers as they should have been even when Rare left. Nintendo is certainly taking their time but I believe that Switch 2 is the big debut for what I believe is going to be a return to form for the franchise. That’s just my 2 cents and I have way more to say about it. If you ever want someone else on in one of these I’d love to link up ha ha
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! I agree with a lot of what you said here. I think we're starting to see Nintendo shift into a better era for the Kongs. Love to see it 😁
@ yea man! I’m down for any DK content out there, sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who makes videos about DK lol I’m sure that will change now that he’s getting more content but it’s nice to see other UA-camrs who love the franchise. In my book of a comment I actually forgot to mention that DK64 will likely show up when a new platformer for DK is announced which is pretty much what you guys are thinking too. It just makes sense, but I think a new 3D platformer for DK will likely be closer to Super Mario 3D World than too DK64 personally.
I think if they were to make another 3D Donkey Kong game, they should probably just get rid of the entire character switching concept all together. The reason being is because I feel like that was a concept that worked back in the '90s, but it wouldn't really resonate with modern gamers all that much today. When you really think about it the whole idea of switching characters to solve puzzles is creative, but not something I can see being done very successfully in the modern gaming landscape. I think they should just keep it to where the players alternate between playing as Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong and that's it for the sake of simplicity
Maybe I'm going crazy, but I could had sworn there was some type of mentioning about DK64 getting ported to the Switch Online several months ago. I thought it already happened.
I have hope considering we just got all 3 DK land games released and DKC Returns in January. They could easily drop DK 64 this month to build more hype for Returns
18:41 Because nintendo doesnt do unnecessary sequels. They literally would rather have a series die rather than make it worse by placing a non innovative game on its list. Its part of their mantra , we know they dont care ; they would even delete the whole history of said saga if they believe they have done it accidentally. And all of this was already done and proved.
I'm waiting for the day this video ages like milk. Donkey Kong 64 may be fun at a certain extent, but it's not even close to being fun compared to Banjo-Kazooie.
Though part of the problem could indeed be the memory leak, there are other factors of note: First of all; how do we know the memory leak issue wasn't fixed for other games already on N64 Online? not to mention the Switch does have triple the useable RAM of what the Wii U had. Second; there could be some rights issues with the DK Rap, as the remix in Smash is abridged in 3DS & Wii U onwards. And third; there's only 3 first-party N64 game left _to_ add. There needs to be something to save for years down the road, and unless I'm forgetting something, short of games that require unreplicatable peripherals, in-house ports of third-party games, licensed sports games, and Japan exclusives that may or may not make their way here; the only third-party games left too have for later are this, Smash 64, and maybe Diddy Kong Racing.
I don't think the DK rap is an issue here. They remixed it first for Smash Melee, a game released 2 years after DK64. They remixed it to better match the style of a fighting game. Also, I don't see it being a rights issue. It's Nintendo's IP afterall!
Well the RAM the console has doesn't matter since this is all emulation anyway. Extra RAM on the actual hardware emulating the N64 wouldn't help much afaik
Another awesome video Joe! My theory is that Nintendo has been paying attention to all the random Internet Hate DK64 has gotten (for whatever reason). Edit: What Jiggy said about the WiiU version crash is legitimate. It's happened to me a couple of times. Oddly enough it's been at the same spot, Tiny's switch by Cranky's Lab in Japes.
Thanks Renegade! I hope Nintendo isn't taking these hate comments as a sign to not release it. And dang, that's really interesting. Always the same spot.
Since you guys forgot to talk about tiny, I got her OK so everyone knows how tiny has her ponytail right why don’t she have invisibility like enemies can’t hit her, but she still seen on the field and she has the lamp for them to hit her that will make her so OP. Also tiny is the one who has a lot of like the bombs and stuff like she’s bombing everything in the game she can use the orange grenade to actually defeat and affect damage on enemies, especially the bosses.😅

DK 64: Kremastered?
Hey, debunking a slight myth that comes up in this conversation. There has never been any categorical proof that DK64 has a memory leak based on continuous playtime. DK64 isn't the *best* programmed game and people do occasionally run into crashes as a result, and write that off as "because of the memory leak" because they had been playing for 10h straight or something like that. In fact, there are 101% runs that are way longer than any quoted memory leak timeframe that don't crash.
The memory leak myth has already been firmly debunked by those that worked on the game.
@@Mitjitsu on N64 yes.

20 years later, I'm still upset Nintendo didn't buy Rare 😢
What could have been 😢
Nintendo made a lot of mistakes in the last 25 years especially in the late 90's/ early 2000's
To be fair, they did try! Microsoft just outbid them basically. But yes still bums me out too! That acquisition was a huge loss to gamers.
@@koopaking6148not buying rare is the biggest one
Why do we need Rare Replay since we're basically just missing a single game Nintendo cared about from that collection?
@diegomedina9637 it's wishful thinking but a rare replay would mean that we can keep the gam3s forever, instead of it being server based (which can be taken away whenever they feel like it)
OH I WOULD LOVE STAR FOX ADVENTURES ON NSO!!!
That would be amazing! I'm curious about Adventures though. I guess the next addition to NSO would be Gamecube games. But that could take a couple years to release! who knows
Here’s some ideas I have for a DK64 remaster:
4. Expand all levels to include new areas, several of which could be used for…
5. DIXIE KONG JOINS THE CREW!!! Could have her items color-coded Pink.
6. New mini-games for bonus barrels, and improvements on the existing ones.
7. Tag Barrel anywhere (I didnt mind how it was done in the original, but I know a lot of people want this)
I love all these ideas! These sound like awesome additions to a remaster!
In other words, a remake.
@ re-make, re-master. Same deal.
Unfortunately, DK64 love is the minority now. It seems like it's the cool thing to bash this game right now :(
I'd buy this game again in whatever form it took though, remake, remaster, or re-release

I would drop money so fast!
Dude DK 64 was my first ever 3D video game. Going from 2D to 3D is a jump kids today just can't have. So yeah I'd pay a full $80 for a port of DK 64 just for that nostalgia aspect.
I still have love for DK64, I can’t believe the hate it gets today. Maybe it’s the warm nostalgic memories with this game, I still love it
I think it's more of a vocal minority that hates it.
@@Oldirtycrza The reason is the back tracking makes this game too long. However you don't have to 100%, and you can use Lanky Kong's stretchy arms to. bypass the B lockers and enter the next world.

So much anticipation built up from this drip 😬
I didn't have a problem tbh
Nintendo isn't stranger to releasing broken sh1t on the N64 NSO app
Banjo-Tooie had its framerate issues fixed, so DK64 might have the same fix applied

The Expention pak requirement is actually related to that bug. The game can actually run without the pak, but the expention pak increase the 13 hour thing to a time so unbelivably long the bug might just not exist at all.
if you boot the game without the expansion pak, the game gives you like an error window.
@superjoebros64 sorry. I worded that wrong. I meant that the game COULD run without th expension pak, but the devs made it mandatory because of the bug.
What I meant is that specs-wise, the N64 would be capable of running the gane without tbe expensionj Pak
ay.. some good points were made in this vid but i think Nintendo is holding off releasing DK64 on NSO just yet.. i think we’re looking at a new DK game launching on the switch 2 and they’ll drop this once thats announced to build hype or bundle it in with that game as a remastered version. cant wait for it to come back either way 👌🏼
If that's what it takes! I can stay patient for Switch 2 haha
The lyrics of the DK rap MUST be restored because he IS … ONE HELL OF A GUY!!!
THATS. RIGHT!
I would love a remake of this game. My ideal right now would be actually getting a sequel of some kind and then get the first on nso
a sequel would be so cool. There's tons of things they could add!
if they do remake dk64 I don't think they would put the original on nso too, my reasoning is that they remade Super Mario RPG and still haven't put the original on there
that's a great point! I guess time will tell.
Why would removing the nintendo coin be a good thing? The mini game is not thar hard. I had a harder time with jetpac when i was like 8.
I fully agree here! One option is straight forward and easy. But man, the other option would be really sweet. And I would happily drop $60 on it haha

Ive been telling my friends this for so long. WHERE IS DK 64!! This game is a special part of my childhood. As a 90’s kid WE NEED THIS GAME
any day now 😭
If they bring back Diddy Kong Racing it needs to be the original and not the DS version.
Taj The Genie used to have an accent and they removed it in the DS version!
Did they really?! I didn't know this.
of course itd be the Original version-- there isnt a "DS Library" on the Switch, the way there is for N64...so if DKR is coming at all, itd be more likely to be the N64 version, complete with its Original Audio (for example, Yoshi's Voice isnt "re-dubbed" in the Mario Party/Kart games to use the Yoshi's Story voice, they still have the Yoshi's Island noises)
they have majora's mask and perfect dark so the expansion thing is a non issue, all emulators have the expansion toggle. my guess would eb a remake/remaster or a sequel of some sort.
That would be amazing!
I don’t think there is any reason for skimping on DK64, they just want to get to other titles first.
If Goldeneye is on NSO, there’s no reason DK64 couldn’t make it too
exactly!
A mini map could be a nice addition! I'd check that out
@ravenfelter3055 My gripe is honestly backtracking.
If we got Goldeneye which I’d think would be the most difficult due to licensing I’m hopeful that this game is possible to come on NSO
Agreed! Seems like all hurdles are out of the way now
Majora's Mask also required the expansion pak and we got it on the NSO
part of the challenge is that you've to memorize the position of different things to come back later with the right kong, so it feels like a quest rather than a linear stage, the tag everywhere mod kinda breaks the spirit of the game in that sense, I wouldn't call it a QoL mod at all, it's more like a cheaty mod.
that's totally fair! I never found the tag system to be that problematic anyways. Like you said, the mod can break the spirit of the game.
You posted this, now it'll be added
hey if that's what it takes 😂
As I understand it, the kremlings are a Rareware invention, which is most likely why DK64 and DKR aren’t on the NSO yet.
Nintendo owns the Kremlings. The Kremlings are in every other DK game on NSO.
They've used the Kremlings in many games since the Rare sale.
Kind of what we said in the video, that's pretty much debunked now having BK and Tooie on NSO 🤷♂️ I just want an answer haha
I think they might wait for the Donkey Kong movie to come out before releasing the DK games
I totally forgot about the movie coming
@@superjoebros64 Didn't they confirm that it's a proper sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and not a Spin-Off that's in the works?

haha we will see
Imagine instead of Krusha gathering bananas, he has to gather meaty drumsticks because he's a carnivore.
That'd be amazing 😂 Krusha on trumpet would be funny
I think theres two reasons ...
1. The game had a memory leak. And i think this could cause problems with the rewind feature.
2. There are Rare games within the code to DK64 ( like Jetpac) and it's possible that Rare doesnt wanna license those games out.
As far as Diddy King Racing goes, i think the fact that Conker is in it. Maybe thats why? Who knows.
(I posted this before i finished the video. Gah)
Oh man, the rewind feature. Didn't even think of that at the time! Yeah, I can see that being problematic.
An HD remaster with Color Blind modes would be spectacular. A man can dream
that would be so hardcore!
It's like the ultimate challenge for some gamers and it's very fulfilling when you beat it!
I bet that we will get a switch port based on the decompilation project before Nintendo
I sure hope so
They need to hire people who love DK64 to make a sequel, who understand this "Rareware" style of making games (about the Fur, need to be like TF or Star Fox Adventure, not just a texture)
And I'm sure there's plenty of people out there just itching to make such a game!

I played Donkey Kong 64 as a kid and have continued to go back and play it throughout my life. STILL my favorite game of all time!
I'm right there with you! One of my favorites
The comment about Nintendo just giving a few people to work on projects like Donkey Kong reminds me of Pikmin. Miyamoto said Pikmin 4 would be ready soon because he had a few people working on just that for the time being, the problem is they kept getting pulled to other projects so it took them about 10 years
dang. I guess it's great that it finally happened. Just a shame they got pulled away.

I can certainly see that!
I am straight up not even a DK fan(Never played any of the games), but even I want it to finally show up. I can clearly see how much the game matters to the fans and I wouldn't want my favorite games to be missing either, so I have an easy time having sympathy towards you guys.

Oh that's interesting! Great points here
I'm curious how old you folks are, and your history with the game?
Also I think we both just have young sounding voices 😂
@@superjoebros64 Yeah totally fair haha. I don’t necessarily love NSO itself. I have 4 different styles of modern n64 controllers and I have it on WiiU which fixes framerate if you’ve tried it? I have to remap the c stick to L1, R1, x and y but it runs amazingly. Only problem is a bug that makes the rabbit race brutal on Wiiu.
I also received this Christmas release year. May be the best gift I’ve gotten as a result.
@ Totally fair. I think you’d be my brothers age then and he still loved Dk64. It is still an age that would lend itself to nostalgia.
@29:10 good question. Where is Mario 64 and zelda ocarina of time remakes as well?
honestly yeah, didn't even consider it!
@superjoebros64 all good.
Now that I think about it. Earthbound can use a remake as well. Played it for a little bit on the switch super nes. Can you imagine how I'd look on switch?
Here's why I'm soo happy I bought this and Wind Waker on Wii u.
I'm a little jealous 🥲 I missed that opportunity
@superjoebros64 Ah it's ok, I missed Pokemon Crystal on the 3DS. Stupid me, I chose Gunstar Heroes 3D instead. Yes I do have the DS remakes, but the soundtrack is not entirely the same, some are reimagined.
Who cares? Paying potentially 50 or 100 times the actual price of the game over the course of years only for them to permanently take it away from you later is stupid. I wanna know why it was never properly re-released.
I would like to know too!
@@superjoebros64 Oh! uh...Hi? Usually when I point out the whole "renting" thing, my comment gets removed. Getting pinned instead is....new.
Conker's Bad Fur Day should be on NSO to. Since they literally have an N64 adult app.
RIGHT. That's a game that's difficult to find an original copy. I would really love to see Conker make it to NSO
Donkey Kong 64 will very likely be on NSO sometime in 2025.
I really hope that's the case!
DK64 was released on WiiU Virtual Console, so it's not impossible honestly.
you never know these days!
I'd be interested in seeing a game like that. Sometimes limitations brings out creativity
Maybe I'm going crazy, but I could had sworn there was some type of mentioning about DK64 getting ported to the Switch Online several months ago. I thought it already happened.
I surely hope so! I just hope they're not turning a blind eye to this game
Yo that would be dope DK 2 let’s go with that theory baby!!! 😊
let's make it happen!!
It would be such a banger, 2025 is the year, to be on like Donkey Kong !
I have hope considering we just got all 3 DK land games released and DKC Returns in January. They could easily drop DK 64 this month to build more hype for Returns
I really hope that's the case! Anything is possible.

Because nintendo doesnt do unnecessary sequels.
They literally would rather have a series die rather than make it worse by placing a non innovative game on its list.
Its part of their mantra , we know they dont care ; they would even delete the whole history of said saga if they believe they have done it accidentally.
And all of this was already done and proved.
Yeeaah, sadly you make a great point.
One of the reason I even pay for the NSO is because it seemed like a no brainer that DK64 was gonna get added. 😢
Seriously! Especially after its release to WiiU
They are drip feeding the n64 titles. For sure it will eventually.
I really hope that's the case
Yo your animal buddy video is so good now ft Jiggylookback is here
thank you! 😁 any video is a good video when Jiggylookback is involved!
Lets be real: If they did DK64 2, they'd give it the paper mario treatment and ruin it with terrible decisions.
nooooo I'd hope not!
I have more faith now that banjo is on switch online
Both Banjo games! Gives me more hope too
I'm waiting for the day this video ages like milk. Donkey Kong 64 may be fun at a certain extent, but it's not even close to being fun compared to Banjo-Kazooie.
Hopefully any day now
Though part of the problem could indeed be the memory leak, there are other factors of note: First of all; how do we know the memory leak issue wasn't fixed for other games already on N64 Online? not to mention the Switch does have triple the useable RAM of what the Wii U had.
@superjoebros64 yep. It's the only place it's ever crashed though. And only with Tiny for whatever reason.
@superjoebros64 well I like to think your guys' theory that something big is coming with DK64. Positive mental attitude ya know
How about a DK 64 remake then. Definitely deserves to be on Switch
For real, I would love that!
Donkey Kong day would when the Dong gets extended
😂
14:48 These were some interesting ideas 🤔💭😎
Lots to consider!
Since you guys forgot to talk about tiny, I got her OK so everyone knows how tiny has her ponytail right why don’t she have invisibility like enemies can’t hit her, but she still seen on the field and she has the lamp for them to hit her that will make her so OP. Also tiny is the one who has a lot of like the bombs and stuff like she’s bombing everything in the game she can use the orange grenade to actually defeat and affect damage on enemies, especially the bosses.😅
we talked about Tiny for a bit that didn't make the final cut! She's one of the best, for sure 😁
12:46 #1 request for a remake for DK64 is the Tag Anywhere feature
Changing Kongs whenever as a mod has completely ruined the original for me. I have kids now mang, I don’t have the time to play this game anymore
I totally get that 😂 I don't even mind collecting it all per Kong, just love having an instant way to do it
I bought the expansion pass so if it ever added ill play it...hope it comes out under a year before it expires
I hope so too! that'd make for a great surprise while you still have it!
They put banjo tooie on switch online it needed the expansion pass as well, and one the last 64 games to come out on 64
