They really know how to make an album opener. Both this and The Night Does Not Belong to God are incredible openers, and flow seamlessly into the 2nd track. Hypnosis is to Atlantic what The Offering is to TNDNBTG 😌 absolutely brilliant writing, mixing, dynamism and performance. They are masters of their craft
That second verse ("I woke up surrounded, eyes like frozen planets...") hits me real hard because I've been there. I was the person that woke up in the hospital surrounded by people, reading the list of damage I've survived. I was in a bad car accident, so it's not apples to apples with what's being expressed in the song, but it still hits in ways I can't describe. And the outro is so relatable. So beautifully sad. I love this band.
I totally relate to your appreciation of that specific verse even though I did not try to interpret it as much. Imagine yourself in the vast emptiness of the vacuum that we call space; cold, lonely, and empty. You are surrounded by large celestial bodies(or entities) perpetually orbiting around you until the day you, or they, die without ever really touching each other, or ever coming closer to you. "The vacuum I am" feels like a notion that the emptiness inside is comparable to that of space and the large distance between these bodies, which is very heavy. The distance and loneliness that we sometimes feel as human beings are relatable and inavoidable, just as the planets destined to orbit a body until their death. Just my take on this of course :)
I have similar feelings listening to Loathe than I have with Sleep Token, and the fact that they did a collaboration with "Is It Really You?" made my year. I suggest you listen to it if you haven't already, and the last album of Loathe "I Let It In and It Took Everything". It's pure gold. Nice work as always!
That rendition gives me goosebumps to this day. The original was breathtaking, and with Vessel’s voice… outta this world… when he says “let’s search the sky” he really takes you soaring for a ride 😌 Absolutely beautiful…
Said this in your last ST reaction but I can't thank you enough for introducing me to such a special and magical band. It's like the whole world just stops when I listen to them and, for sure, its going to stop when this video is live!
Can't even begin to express how much I love the Sleep Token reactions. I found your channel because I found ST completely on accident and was so intensely moved by their music and wanted to see other peoples reaction. It's been really validating to see someone else "feel" their music in a way that I really connect with. Your ability to dissect and understand each song is fascinating and let's me appreciate them even more. Whether or not you've listened to a song already I hope to continue seeing them on the channel!
I absolutely love your breakdown/analysis of this song, and love how you described it as a song that begins sad, becomes sad with purpose, then at the breakdown it begins to fight back. "It's a song that's feeling, processing and acting". So good!
I love the authenticity of your reactions. Sleep Token has affected me in a way I could never have anticipated. They are a creative whirlwind with no limitations. Cheers!
What a track! It literally feels like you are getting pulled down to the bottom of the ocean. Vessel is a madman. And this is just the first track! What an opener man.
This song wrecks me emotionally in the best possible way. As you said in one of your other ST reactions: "Music that demands to be felt." Thank you for this video.
this is my favourite song from Sleep Token, and I hope that when we get a deluxe version of this album, they do a "from the room below" live arrangement of it bc I love Vessel's raw live vocals on emotional pieces
I actually gasped with excitement when I saw the title of this video lol, have been wanting to hear your thoughts on this song since it came out! It's so magical, and this video did not disappoint. I'm not sure if you've already heard it, but even if you have, another track of theirs that I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on is The Night Does Not Belong To God. It was the first song I ever heard by them and is very special to me. Vessel's stunning rendition of 'Is It Really You?' would also be a great one to review/react to :) Thank you for all the time, thought and effort you put into the content you create! I appreciate the level of detail you go into, and I always feel like I've learnt something new after watching a video of yours :)
I started watching your later ST reactions and just began with the "older" videos today and was wondering when your passion started taking over This is that video. So good!
Firstly, Chase getting better and better? Loved this one. For a evolving listener like me this was priceless. You guided my attention to cool things, and as this was familiar to you, you could guide me to pay attention in advance. I liked. I have heard this song so many times, and again I heard new things thanks to you. With a band you made me love, not mad at all. Secondly, I'll support familiar songs and some teaching points. The popup was great idea! I like to learn when enjoying and having fun. Thirdly, (ref to chat): Yes please, charity merch. I'll NEED what ever you will have 😊
Unleash the Archers, Polyphia, Band Maid, Sleep Token…you have introduced me to so much incredible music and your breakdowns of all are incredibly substantial. San Francisco ain’t gonna know what hit it when you get here bro! 🙏🏼♥️
I have been waiting for this reaction! I don't know anyone personally who have had anywhere near as strong a reaction as I have to Sleep Token, so its wonderful to see you appreciate it as much as I do, really makes me feel like part of the community. Worship!
I like your “song fighting back” perspective. I king of feel there is a lot more fighting back in this whole album. Sundowning felt like it was reaching. This album still has the reach but a little push back. IMO. Great video as always.
Thank you for doing this song. ST is a band which greatly rewards repeat listening and your appreciation of this song I think was aided with the space you’ve had with it. I love your observation that the song is sad, but with a purpose…and the moment where the bass finally kicks in and hangs there is the moment the song fights back. Love that. Thank you.
DUDE YES!!!!! So glad you did this song. Was listening to this song today. This whole album is such a roller coaster. So many emotions. Glad to see you back! Hope all is well
Soooo happy to see you reacting to something from this album! This is my favorite track from the album, and you've helped me appreciate it even more. As others have commented, I love their music so much and it's good to see another human feeling the same things so deeply. Helps me feel less alone :)
Good day sir! Another really cool and intuitive take on a great piece of music. I can't even imagine how you keep track of all the tiny individual components of what makes a great song so great. You have a unique and highly versatile ability that impresses me every time. Its so awesome to be able to have someone kind of explain the "why" of how a song makes you feel the way it does. Always a good afternoon when you drop a new reaction Chase, much appreciation from your fans world wide my man !
your reaction to sleep token is exactly how i reacted when i saw them for the first time (my first time was seeing them open for in this moment) and i love how excited you get over music!! it’s the same way i get excited and it’s very good to know other people notice the same things. my favorite song of sleep tokens is probably fields of elation. the entire one ep is so beautiful 🥹
It's so nice to find someone who has had a similar path to and through this band as I have. I was introduced to ST through some friends and instantly fell in love, every song makes me feel the same way you seem to and I adore that relatability! Thanks so much Chase you legend, these vids are so good.
Atlantic is still one of my favorite opening tracks to an album. Chase I’m so glad that you introduced me to Sleep Token with your first reaction to them which I think was Jaws or it might have been Calcutta. But seriously man thank you for the amazing reaction videos it’s always really cool to see how you pick apart the instrumentals and lyrical content of the songs you react to. Also a band you have to check out is Whale Bones and their song Wilt. Here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/NCMUM9Z-ALA/v-deo.html
I am incredibly moved by their tracks from the sounds, to the titles, the lyrics, the overall experiences; they're just immaculate. And your responses to this music in particular really resonates with me. One could say it 'strikes a chord' haha okay the joke is over-- but seriously, I felt chills with the sinister switch and really enjoyed experiencing it alongside others. Thank you Vessel.
Been watching you and Tank for about a year. I'm now going to start listening to Sleep Token because of you reaction, I really like how this sounded and was structured. Your analysis of this was great!
Thats how i feel for it as well. This to me is a song of sorrow, then the action of processing that trauma (whatever it is) and then the moment of action where its like "no fuck this im not living, doing, being this anymore"
I've never commented on a video before but I was really hoping you'd react to something on this absolute masterpiece of an album. Ever since it was released I listen to it on repeat, it's just so good. Have you thought about reacting to Hypnosis or Alkaline? They're some of faves from this album (apart from like... all of the rest of the songs hahah). Love your reactions!
Love that you’re reacting to things you’ve already heard as well, i feel like we get even more insight from it :) Would love to see you react/review Mine by Sleep Token
I'm sure you've already had a million requests, but Sleep Token just released not one, but two new songs (Chokehold and The Summoning). Would love to hear your reaction and breakdown! HADGD
Yet another great reation/review video ! Glad to see you doing more content again, Chase. You're one of the best out there. Sleep Token is not exactly my kind of music, but holy shit, that drummer is epic!
This 58 yr old certainly listens to music differently than I did for most of my life, because of your influence....so thank you!! Extremely talented band...but oddly enough, not something I would care to listen to very much! Partly I suppose, because I never learned to appreciate those little, intentional cracks in the voice, no matter what the genre! Very happy that you are back to putting out videos!! Cheers!
What you say at about 2:00 minutes in is so great, your reactions are incredible and help me find so much value and joy in songs I potentially otherwise was "meh" about (architects - meteor) comes to mind. I am really glad you feel able to just have that first experience without it being filmed and for a video, because you can't get that back and it deserves to be yours. If you share it with us we are so blessed for it and your insight but that shit is yours. Love your videos man, hope you are doing well and it's great to see you back making videos
Having now watched all the video, your mention of your own struggles you are incredibly strong to deal with it all and come out the other side as you have. One thing I thought as I watched is how many times you point something out technically or sonically that blows my mind, then I relisten and it seems so clear and obvious , you're incredible mate, as I said in my original comment I'm glad you're back, keep safe and strong man
Music is the only thing that makes me feel true emotions. I'm so dulled to life and the sounds around me normally, but music touches color back into my life. When a song can make me cry, it's very special. Sleep Token has made me have deep, ugly, cathartic sob sessions, which has only happened before with one other band (Tool). Really something.
I adore the entire album but Atlantic, Mine, The Love That You Want and especially High Water blow me the fuck away! So glad you're back and covering the non-singles Chase! Hope you've been well while you were away from the channel. Some of the production on this album reminds me so much of Bonobo's approach to production, it'd be hard for me to believe he hasn't had an influence on George Lever, especially where ST are concerned, coincidentally, I'd love to hear Vessel on a Bonobo track.
Any excuse to dive into Sleep Token is good enough for me! Had to save this for the start of my own personal weekend. Really love the nuance you shed light to. Just a whirlwind of atmosphere and emotion to be flooded in.
I think it's safe to say everyone the last two years has had crazy ups and downs to various degrees, haven't been immune to that. With that said though still here with Alessa and we've not had any real major crisis ourselves so blessed there. Sent ya an add on ig, I been chatting up there with some buddies lately so if you ever wanna join the frey you're more than welcome to.
Maybe the growing cold to certain things happens mostly on the outside. A person as sensitive to music as you are can't be cold. The power of music ❤ By the way, you could use eight arms: two for air drumming, two for the guitar, two for the keys and two for the analysis ;-)
Maybe it is a bit much since you said in this video that active listening can be a bit much, but I really love the Band "We lost the sea" and I think you could enjoy their music quite a lot.
I feel I need you to listen too and breakdown Alkaline and Hypnosis. Keep up the incredible work my friend,l. Your my favorite "reactor" now, and actually stumbled here looking for sleep token reactions!! It is damn criminal how not many people are talking about Sleep Token.
I never get tired of your Sleep Token videos. Watched the last one multiple time. Not sure if you've checked them out, but if you haven't, look at reacting to Unprocessed. Three great songs: Deadrose, Abandoned, and Real. Real features some members of Polyphia. First time I heard Deadrose, you were my first thought.
I love your reaction to sleep token, I don't know if you'll see this, but would love to know if you have had a chance to see them live? I saw them 3.5 weeks ago supporting Northlane and I've been obsessed since, Vessel has become my favourite vocalists and he is somehow even better live! And II is one of my fave drummers too, he is just incredible, I promise he only has two arms and two legs 🤣
I see all the comments. I do my best to get to as many as possible. Firstly thank you so much. Unfortunately I haven’t seen them live. I’d love to but when they were in the UK playing last I was in the US. Hopefully one day soon.
Hey Chase, I discovered the band Arcane Roots yesterday, and I am Blown away!! it's some what Leprous like but a little bit more heavy in some parts. Would be dope if you checked it out. I would start with: Curtains - Arcane Roots and then later if you like it: If Nothing Breaks, Nothing Moves - Arcane Roots You're gonna love it😁
Bruddah there's this song called 'Welcome to the Internet' by Bo Burnham, you might remember him as a comedian before the pandemic. Pliz do have a look at it someday coz that's real nice n deep
Please react to Erra's cover of Stockholm syndrome by muse... glad to see you're back man!! Also check out sleep Token's cover of is it really you by loathe.
for Sleep Token, I really think you should do “High Water” next. I have a feeling you’ll absolutely lose your shit on that one! for an older song that you’ve surely heard before, I’d like to request a song from my favorite band: Deftones - Knife Prty ua-cam.com/video/ibeFnxKiom8/v-deo.html
Finally someone else has noted the fine-grained self-awareness of their music. Its like the whole thing was conceived of and performed in front of a mirror -- entirely with a pre-conceived outcome envisaged to ocurr in the listener. It's remarkable sonically but not ever is it organic. I want to like Sleep Token because the craftsmanship is obvious, but I always feel manipulated.
On active listening, i really really get upset when you are active listening, and you're doing it whilst showing someone else a song to be vulnerable with them, then they either stop the music, or talk over it, it really ... really... sucks. Lol.
I'd love it more, if you listened to the song in its whole and then again, than just stop several times. for me that ruins the feeling of the musical piece.
@@ChaseCarneson Hey, you to my new friend. And take the advice of a "watcher", anything over 10 minutes is tough to keep the interest. Hopefully i did not hurt your feelers
Dude that’s what I was saying! This might be one of the best opening tracks I’ve ever heard. And so is TNDNBTG. Absolute perfection.
And now the summoning to chokehold following the pattern, we love the intentional song placements XD
That second verse ("I woke up surrounded, eyes like frozen planets...") hits me real hard because I've been there. It's why I keep coming back. I don't think anyone else has ever explained so perfectly what my brain is feeling when listening to music.

I first encountered Sleep Token on your channel …… thank you so much, what a gift this music is.

I would really recommend Is It Really You? by Loathe ft. Sleeptoken
Been waiting for your Sleep Token content 👌🏻👌🏻

I am incredibly moved by their tracks from the sounds, to the titles, the lyrics, the overall experiences; they're just immaculate. And your responses to this music in particular really resonates with me. Thank you Vessel.
They are absolutely incredible.
Love ! Yay ! See you soon, Chase and Chat!
Thumbs up for Chase :)
Been watching you and Tank for about a year. I'm now going to start listening to Sleep Token because of you reaction, I really like how this sounded and was structured. Your analysis of this was great!

Such a gorgeous song and so many Loathe vibes

This video has taught me one thing........I need a Sleep Token hoodie.
Maybe it is a bit much since you said in this video that active listening can be a bit much, but I really love the Band "We lost the sea" and I think you could enjoy their music quite a lot.
Thank you for the rec! I’ll check them out!
I want that hoodie! Where did you get it? Their official merch site or third party store?
Love the depth of your reviews. Can you do a reaction/review to The Halo Effect? Especially 'Feel What I Believe'
Great video. I'd like to see you react to anything off the last Every Time I Die album or, Loathe - I let it in and it took everything... Or Hypnosis.
Hey Chase, I discovered the band Arcane Roots yesterday, and I am Blown away!! it's some what Leprous like but a little bit more heavy in some parts.
Would be dope if you checked it out.
I would start with: Curtains - Arcane Roots
and then later if you like it: If Nothing Breaks, Nothing Moves - Arcane Roots
You're gonna love it😁
Sleep token made a cover of "is it really you" by loathe, it's worth checking out
I want that hoodie..great video
It is now property of my other half haha
Bruddah there's this song called 'Welcome to the Internet' by Bo Burnham, you might remember him as a comedian before the pandemic. Pliz do have a look at it someday coz that's real nice n deep
I'm dying of jealousy lol, where did you get that hoodie?? It looks soooo cool.
Love these guys, and atlantic is my favorite off the album. Anybody who likes sleep token HAS to check out stoneside. Try terlingua or hell
Thank you for the recommendation! Just added to my library
@@ZL1LoVeR let me know what you think! When they took you by stoneside is excellent as well (although they dont actually have any songs i dont like)
@@LeatherDaddy97 I like what I’m hearing so far 😁 my first impression is if Coldplay did metal
The breakdown in When They Took You is sooo satisfying 🤘🏽🤨
@@ZL1LoVeR glad you like!
Please react to Erra's cover of Stockholm syndrome by muse... glad to see you're back man!! Also check out sleep Token's cover of is it really you by loathe.
Very poignant Chase. I really appreciate your knowledge of and emotional resonance for music. It’s beautiful.
Do Hypnosis next
for Sleep Token, I really think you should do “High Water” next. I have a feeling you’ll absolutely lose your shit on that one!
for an older song that you’ve surely heard before, I’d like to request a song from my favorite band: Deftones - Knife Prty

React to hypnosis :D
MAN! Sleep Token's latest single, The Summoning, might be their best ever. This is not hyperbole.
The singer sounds an awful lot like Jökull Júlíusson of KALEO. Anyone else hear that?
Finally someone else has noted the fine-grained self-awareness of their music.
Its like the whole thing was conceived of and performed in front of a mirror -- entirely with a pre-conceived outcome envisaged to ocurr in the listener. It's remarkable sonically but not ever is it organic.
I want to like Sleep Token because the craftsmanship is obvious, but I always feel manipulated.
All I'm saying is I wouldn't mind an analysis video for every sleep token song
??????? ✌️
?????????????????👍
Wait - are you South African?
On active listening, i really really get upset when you are active listening, and you're doing it whilst showing someone else a song to be vulnerable with them, then they either stop the music, or talk over it, it really ... really... sucks. Lol.
I'd love it more, if you listened to the song in its whole and then again, than just stop several times. for me that ruins the feeling of the musical piece.
Sorry, you talk toooo much. keep it simple, it's about the content not you
😂😂😂 you go have a lovely day okay.
@@ChaseCarneson Hey, you to my new friend. And take the advice of a "watcher", anything over 10 minutes is tough to keep the interest. Hopefully i did not hurt your feelers
@@Brutalgruve nah you good. You like what you like and I respect that, seems a lot people disagree, to each their own. No harm done. Have a good one
