"Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in genres, they’ll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone" --Vessel
I just discovered this band last week and I have to a say their new album is a complete masterpiece. I listen to it multiple times a day since I first heard it
Not a bad song on the album...not even a just okay song, literally every song is good to wonderful to F@c&ing amazin. That's the scale of Take Me Back To Eden.
The only quote I could ever find of Vessel from an old interview before One: "Don't get caught up in the genres, music is for everyone" That's so true for Sleep Token, its just GOOD MUSIC, its got IT ALL, why should we lock ourselves into a "category" when we can just make MUSIC! I love it
The polyrhythm where the piano plays the repeating 3-note melody over a 4/4 time signature is awesome and sneaky in how they do it. It's the "little things" in music that does it for me.
Vessel hasn’t come out and openly said who he was but he does actually drop hints in this song and Euclid with “blacklit paradise” and “ancient canopies” for anybody who already had the hunch. So he confirms who he is without telling everyone. I’ll leave it at that for those who don’t want to know - if you do, those lyrics tell you all you need to know.
If you listen / loo closer, Sleep Token frequently drops tiny, little mentions / hints of their past work throughout this trilogy-closing album. For this track, Vessel references "ripped lace, cut glass, and blood stains" which hearkens back to an earlier music video they did for "Jaws." For "Euclid," he sings lyrics straight out of "The Night Does Not Belong To God" while also singing that "the night belongs to you." And for those in the know, his mentions of "black-lit paradise" and "canopies" in another track just can't be coincidental. Just outstanding lyrical poetry, breathtaking musicianship, soaring instrumentals, and beautiful artwork all-around for my favorite 2023 record so far. ☺
I think he did it for those of us that have been around from the beginning or that have took the time and effort to listen to every thing and have been interested enough to find out. Kinda like ok I know y'all know so here's a lil something extra just for those of us that love him.
I also love how, toward the end of Take Me Back to Eden, he quotes some of the lyrics from previous songs on the album. The only other time I've seen something like that was when Fall Out Boy put their big lyrics into What a Catch, Donnie
Vessel writes everything besides drums, does production with the engineer. He's a very good pianist, you should check out blood sport "from the room below" it's his live solo version of the song and his voice is so powerful without needing to actually rock out. I firmly believe vessel could be a singer songwriter because that is how he writes his music but I believe he wants it to be even more grand than himself. Glad you're enjoying more sleep token.
apparently he is a singer songwriter and did that busking in england before he did sleep token, from someone that said they knew him, but idk how true it is. Clearly, he's really well trained with piano, song composition, and obviously singing, and it would be strange to me if he was only a bedroom performer before sleep token.
Vocally speaking there’s a bunch of stuff Vessel does that makes me think he has classical training. The kind of resonance he goes for, e.g., and especially the way he sticks his *very enunciated* ending consonants on the beat *after* the word is over
I read somewhere that he used to be a classical musician in local venues, hence the jazz, funk, vocalization’s and really anything outside of the rock and metal styles. Don’t know if that’s true but it would make so much sense if that was his background
@@Frenzy4457 I think the people they say that believe he is someone else but the only other project know he was @ part of is a duo with him and a girl. And the music was kinda ambient with just him and the girls vocals and a guitar with dark lyrics that you can actually find in his music now and he actually calls back to that duo and a couple songs on this album actually one of the call backs to that is on this song but I don't doubt that he is probably classically trained but i don't believe it's who some people think it is in other words it's not Jordan Hunt close but no.
I highly recommend the entire album, but Rain is definitely one of my favorite tracks from the album! Also, the title track Take Me Back to Eden is also a must!
I’m sure many have already said this, but Take Me Back to Eden, the title track, is one hell of a journey. Absolute SLAPPER. Sleep Token pretty much became my favorite band in a VERY short period of time. There is no one like them.
Sleep Token definitely deserves a 7-by! I don't think you've dug into their older EPs and previous albums, but they are so worth it! I can't wait to see Sleep Token this September!
If you like the drummer, I HIGHLY recommend giving Hypnosis a listen. That one very much showcases his talent. The entire trilogy is amazing and they have done so much by simply existing in people's lives. I love them so much. I'm so glad they're getting the attention that they have worked so hard for.
Oh, what a journey. And let's be honest, every song of Sleep Token is an experience. I love their music, let it run through me, and change me. And since I'm addicted to music and listen to it 24/7, I already know the album by heart. Extremely talented people. Anyway. Another great reaction! I love how you enjoy music ❤ Have a great day everyone!
Simply put what would I be without music? Dead! Music safed me so many times. Artists like Green Day, Shinedown and now Sleep Token carried me through the toughest times like nothing ever could. I'm so glad you react to them and love them as much as I do. Y'all have a great day
One of my favorite things: They’re just as beautiful live as you would hope. I think that is what originally drew me in. I thought, how do they pull this off live? And hunted down a few whole show pretty good sounding fan videos. So good!
The beautiful thing about this Sleep Token album is that everyone I speak to and every comments section that I read, there is a wide range of favourites. There are a few standout tracks in my opinion, but no doubt I'll have changed my mind about which ones they are in a week or two. It is just pure bliss from start to end. Every song has little nuggets of absolute magnificence that bring me back to play them over and over again.
I was SO EXCITED for this album, despite having released so many singles before the initial release, and I thought "maybe it'll be subpar IDK" but no, I heard this song and I was immediately obsessed. The entire album is so amazing, and they gave us great singles, but they gave us surprises with the other songs. Its so beautiful. This song specifically is like 3 genres in one, and I don't know how they do it, or how we've been so gifted to get to experience their talent, but I'm so glad the world is giving them their credit.
Been a listener of sleep token from the early eps, happy to see them get the recognition they deserve! Also you have to be one of my favorite "reaction" channels I've found so far. "Genres are a kiss of death" - well said! You'll only be able to find the music that truly resonates with you when you start to give everything a chance and try to understand it. So many unique styles and blends of instruments are out there and there is bound to be one that truly fits for you, and if not, make it yourself! Also, I'd love the hear a reaction or yout thoughts about the Band "The Contortionist", especially "Thrive" or "Language I: Intuition". They are one of those Bands that really made me realize that Heavy Music can come in so many forms. Sleep Token of course being one of them too, I've seen people describe them as too "vibey" but the atmospheres they create are what makes them so unique in my eyes.
"Cause anything's better than the way I feel right now," and "You make me wish I could disappear" punched me right in the heart. 😭 This album is not just music, it's art. It's a journey. The title track is phenomenal. So is "Euclid." II is one of the best drummers in metal right now. And going back to what you said about Dayseeker using 7 string guitars - Sleep Token use 8 strings and baritone guitars for much of their music. There are several songs in crazy low tunings like double drop C. STARSET (they also love the low low low tuning).
Their music is some of the most beautiful I've ever heard. I've seen them live, and the experience of the sound live was somehow even beyond what I expected. What an absolutely amazing experience. Highly recommend it, I'll definitely watching out for them coming back to my area, especially after this new album
I also love that Hammond B3/Leslie patch they have sustaining that high C minor over entire sections of music with chords changing beneath it. Really builds a lot of tension and suspense while filling out the overall sound perfectly.
Really enjoyed your perspective on Vessels voice and their music overall. “It either gets you or it doesn’t”… absolutely, as any well written, put together performed art from an artist. Not everyone will resonate with it. Those that do, it hits the mark dead on! 🔥
II is an amazing drummer. Basically the band is Vessel, II (2) Drummer, III (3) Bass, & IV (4) Guitar. Vessel and II were the only official members until recently. Once they started drooping the singles for this album, III & IV became official also.
The album itself though is all Vessel 1 & 2 I believe. All of the credits just mention the two with the drummer playing the drums and the singer doing everything else. I think the other 2 guys are just there for live shows.
@Jordan Maul didn't say how long they have been playing with them. I said they became official. Only Vessel and II ever had anything official on the Sleep Token socials. When the new songs dropped, III & IV popped up on their own Instagram accounts. They didn't have anything till then.
I have watched just two of your videos… and I can thoroughly say you are my favorite youtuber!! And I watch hundreds of hours of UA-cam. You feel, live, and embody your videos. Much love! Keep the passion!
11:22 I absolutely agree. Freedom of expression is necessary to create the most beautiful forms of art be it writing, music, painting, dance etc I think part of what makes great art is that pure honesty of expression unbridaled by any particular classifications or labels. We as human beings may or may not relate to such expressions, but those that do connect to the art feel such a strong sense of understanding and of being understood.
i can’t even begin to say how glad i am you were also reminded of let it go, it was the first thing that came to mind for me but i haven’t seen anyone else pick it up too! i thought i was going nuts for a while but THANK YOU LMAO

You always talk about how much you love the drummer and I think you should check out “Hypnosis: An Offering From II.” It’s a drum focused instrumental play through. Dudes an absolute beast.

David, I really enjoy your videos! So glad you did another Sleep Token vid. Hearing from a music theoretical stand point is refreshing too. Also, please could you do a vid for ‘Take Me Back to Eden’, the album title soundtrack. It’s incredible !
Strongly recommend you do full playthroughs for Sundowning, This Place Will Become Your Tomb, and Take Me Back to Eden. It's a full trilogy that makes so much more sense in order and context.
Hey Yo David! I finally gave them a listen yesterday. Totally dig this lp and have listened 3 times already. Love your reaction and musical prowess with the keyboard. ✌️
First, I would die without music in my life. You are my favorite teacher on UA-cam. I love your reactions. This song is beautiful. ♥️ Ascensionism is an umbrella term for a vast number of faiths, schools, cults and sects that descend from the teachings of the Skysage Ghan. One of the oldest religions on Imeris, Ascensionism is not one single idea but a vast group of ideas that dominated Caeli thought before the rise of its most formalized derivative, Akarism. Ascensionism began from the Teachings of Ghan, a number of ancient legends credited to the mythic Skysage. These stories were carried by the Caeli from the deserts and savannahs of Faisah to the peninsula of Penhira, where the Caeli settled and began to build their first civilizations. These teachings were primarily centered around the stars and the sky, containing stories about the origins of the constellations, as well as a number of moral and ethical teachings. One of the central beliefs espoused in these legends is that of the Cosmic Order, the unknowing but interconnected series of functions within the universe that all are part of. As time passed, the Caeli of Penhira built their cities and towns, though many if not all left large spaces within their cities for natural features alongside the grand spires that dominate Caeli architecture. This was because, while knowledge of the movements of the heavens might grant insights into the nature of the Cosmic Order, to lose sight of the ground will disconnect you from the whole.
You’re going to go down an amazing rabbit hole similar to when you got into Dance Gavin Dance. They are even better live. I’ve been blessed to see them twice already and they are amazing!! Worship!!
Dude I've never watched your videos before. But when the song picked up during the metal portion and I saw you just feeling it, going "wooo!" During your fav drum parts. That's the sign of a true fan of music, regardless of genre. Music is all about how it makes you feel. And I can see you feeling it. Great reaction!
"Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in genres, they’ll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone" --Vessel
I love this quote. Especially since its under every single sleep token reaction😂
EVERY time the drummer does anything in a Sleep Token reaction:
"I like this drummer!"
Love it! 😂
"I thought they were done" ~all of us on every sleep token song ever
Lol facts
“Nothing like a great drummer.” Dude, Vessel II is a beast. His snare is tighter than a virgin.
“I had an expierience there man”
That’s the feeling of the album. It really takes you on a journey if you let it.

The only album that made me cry and headbang at the same time
"are you really okay" broke me- so freaking good

I just discovered this band last week and I have to a say their new album is a complete masterpiece. I listen to it multiple times a day since I first heard it
The main problem I have with the album is that it’s too short. Needs about 20 more songs. 😅
Not a bad song on the album...not even a just okay song, literally every song is good to wonderful to F@c&ing amazin. That's the scale of Take Me Back To Eden.
Their whole catalog is worth several listens. I am convinced Sleep Token can do no wrong.
Who else found themselves in a dusty room(crying) at the end during the last song on the album... ✋ Did...✌️🤘
The metal scene has some of the best musicians and I’m fucking proud of it.
You’re about to open up an entire treasure trove with Sleep Token. They’re fascinating from a purely musical perspective.

Probably the best dissection I've seen on UA-cam of sleep tokens songs, amazing and helpful!
what a masterpiece!
“What a journey”. My man this is just a slice of the pie
Take me back to Eden is an amazing track
I have a ST reaction video addiction. You are the first to mention the frozen similar intro 😂 yay I knew I wasn’t the only one.
You have to listen to the title track, incredibly piano driven and takes you on an amazing journey.
Easily my favorite song on the album. The music, the lyrics, the emotion, so damn good.
Imagine being as talented as this man. I love watching him figure out the notes
David, I really enjoy your videos! So glad you did another Sleep Token vid. Hearing from a music theoretical stand point is refreshing too. Also, please could you do a vid for ‘Take Me Back to Eden’, the album title soundtrack. It’s incredible !
You will love Take me back to Eden, the title track for the album. It’s beautiful ❤ awesome Reaction btw
That piano segment you did in this video was awesome… I love ST.
I clapped at the let it go reference. I didn't hear it before , but now I can't unhear it.
"Blacklit Paradise" Is a goose egg to his old project. Thats all ill say.
You mean easter egg?
As is “ancient canopies” in Euclid
I noticed that first listen to the song
Strongly recommend you do full playthroughs for Sundowning, This Place Will Become Your Tomb, and Take Me Back to Eden. It's a full trilogy that makes so much more sense in order and context.
Hey Yo David! I finally gave them a listen yesterday. Totally dig this lp and have listened 3 times already. Love your reaction and musical prowess with the keyboard. ✌️
First, I would die without music in my life. You are my favorite teacher on UA-cam. I love your reactions. This song is beautiful. ♥️
Ascensionism is an umbrella term for a vast number of faiths, schools, cults and sects that descend from the teachings of the Skysage Ghan.
Very very deep!
You’re going to go down an amazing rabbit hole similar to when you got into Dance Gavin Dance.
They are even better live. I’ve been blessed to see them twice already and they are amazing!!
Worship!!
Ive been WAITING for you to react to this one, im so ready
I have to say I have loved your sleep token reactions.. you finding the keys on the keyboard... wow beautiful work. Masterful
In my opinion, musically and instrumentally sleep token is the highest of class. However; lyrically I don’t see any contest, Vessel is a genius.
Read the lyrics of literally any silent planet song then
I think you would love most of the album!
