      I must say I was rooting for Shawn, being a fellow Iowan, but I was glad that someone repping the Stars and Stripes ended up winning gold. You both deserved being 1-2, but my personal Hawkeye State bias thought Shawn was just a smidge better, but the judges were going for your elegance over her power that day. Congratulations, Anastasia Liukina.

    Nastia is awesome in everyway and super nice. A few months after the Olympics, Nastia sent an autographed photo to me after I commented on a WOGA insider video about how I was a huge fan and had gone through a tough time in the summer of 2008. It was ridiculously nice of her at a time when she had hundreds of demands on her time.

    Thanks for this olympic channel! I still remember watching the gymnastics on TV that summer 2008 and rooting for Nastia, Shawn, and Team USA! I never understood why in 2008 olympics they didn't allow gymnasts to tie for a medal as I remember Nastia and He Kexin both had the same final score in the uneven bars event final (so they could have been co-olympic uneven bars champions) but due to the tiebreaker procedure Nastia got silver.

    Does anyone realise that if it was the code of points was what it is now Shawn would have won from difficulty levels because most of nastias skills got downgraded in the code while shawns didn’t really and when you do the math Shawn comes out on top

    • @hannahwalmer1124
      @hannahwalmer1124 3 роки тому

      Correct. Nasita has an extremely inflated bars D-Score that gave her that upper edge.

    • @donaldholderdoc2910
      @donaldholderdoc2910 3 роки тому +8

      You can't go by that because the fact that IF the Code of Points was different back in 2008 then that's what her and her father would have planned, worked and trained for. That's like saying that if the code of points from 2008 was in place even though Mary Lou got her perfect 10, then overall she could have lost the All Around. What ifs don't hold a candle in sports or life really . That's like saying if Tom Brady had completed only 5% of his passes rather that 82% he would have lost the Superbowl. If we had airplanes like we do today back in 1937 Amelia Erhardt wouldn't have disappeared. Pipe dreams.
