5th Eruption This Year
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- A new volcano has erupted on the Reykjanes peninsula in the south west of Iceland. The eruption started at 9:26 on Thursday the 22nd of August after increased seismic activity. The eruption is in the Sundhnúksgígaröð area, in a very similar location to the eruption that occurred last May. The nearby town of Grindavík has once again been evacuated and the lava flow is currently not posing a risk to infrastructure or life, although there is concern that it might eventually reach the cold water pipe that runs into Svartsengi power plant.
The eruption site is currently CLOSED and Civil Defence ask people to not visit the area. Reykjanesbraut remains open and international travel is unaffected.

Thanks for the coverage of the volcano. It looks scary but beautiful at the same time. Also nice to see Josie Anne again. All the great people from Grapevine are now part of Iceland Review, that's awesome! And last but not least, great job to Art for keeping the camera stable in such hard wind conditions. 🤗
We need Valur og Polly!
@@aiidina67 Absolutely! They were in an episode on this channel a few weeks ago, though.
@@markuserikssen I saw! But the eruptions were more special with them in the foreground. ♥️🌋🐾
Thank you! I understand what you're saying: There is no way to describe the sheer immensity, power, and beauty of Iceland. You have to experience it in person!

So Josie is now also at the Iceland Review. Great to see you again. Nice pictures as always, Art. ;o)

Thank you for this update. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Another greetings from The Netherlands here!
Art You do wonderful work
Well reported Josie, such an awesome sight. Interesting that the main activity is further north this time. Stay safely upwind of those gases.
thank you very much a wonderful informative report tak
it is truly a spectacular site powerful scary beautiful a natural wonder glad that the gases are going straight out to sea and that everyone is safe
Seems like the original settlers and their descendants studied the lava events as best as was possible and picked places to permanently settle that are LARGELY and USUALLY out of the path of danger.
Obviously there are exceptions. Predicting volcano science is difficult for the professionals, let alone amateurs or even basic town planners, but it seems to me that the people of Iceland have done a decent job with the knowledge they had.
🖖
they're lava plumes, not magma plumes....it's called lava above the ground and magma when it's below the ground...great reporting....awesome views
Josie, you are definitely
Jucie 😅
