I live on the fourth floor in Cape Coral, Florida, and three hurricanes ago. The water blew up past our roof. those that are in an area prone to water surge may not have time to leave their area without the cars already been submerged or floating down the road.
I live in the Cape. During Ian, about 5 blocks north of the Cape Coral Bridge, homes along the canals there, off the Caloosahatchee River, had water up to their roof lines. Homes 4 blocks north of Cape Coral Parkway and south of Cape Coral Parkway were mostly flooded. This area got minimum 9 ft to 12 ft. Businesses and apts. in downtown Ft. Tampico just loaded this thing up and it's heading directly for Tampa now. How ironic. We just finished ripping out the walls in our house in New Port Richey and now this. Good Lord.
Tampa area residents really should begin their evacuation plans now. Prep your home for protection Sunday, while deciding where to evacuate to (at least to Panama City or further west). Large broad storm expected. If on expected course will cause massive flooding, wind damage and large surge effects. Should follow the I-4 corridor so damage in those areas. It’s the weeks after that can be the worst. Been through multiple hurricanes…this one looks rough.
This is unreal it’s like a bad dream for Tampa. They just had Helene and now this. This is worst case scenario. All we can do is pray for the best and prepare for the worst.

@@Musicman-y7v yep. And it was a freaking huge 3. Created 19 times more bio-trash than Andrew did in S Florida. We went without power for 11 days. My daughter 16 days. I would go to the Marriott for breakfast/lunch/dinner because it had a generator. Everyone does now. Did atmospheric and oceanographic work in the US Navy. Heat to atmospheric energy transfer is still a very inexact science. Predicting the strength is more an educated guess than anything else still. I believe we’ll be lucky if it’s a cat 3.
This situation is far more serious than some may realize. If they're projecting a Category 3 hurricane, you should be prepared for it to make landfall as a Category 4 or even 5. The reality is, weather forecasts often underestimate the final strength of these storms. A direct hit to Tampa Bay would be catastrophic, and the impact would extend well beyond the coastline. Inland flooding will be widespread and dangerous. Tampa has had brushes with hurricanes before, but it's been a long time since the city took a direct hit. Many of the people who have moved to the area in recent years, especially those from the North, have no idea just how devastating this could be. The potential here is massive-this could turn into a Hurricane Katrina-level disaster. If you're in the path of this storm, it's crucial to prepare now. Make evacuation plans immediately. Don't wait until it's too late. Many are still recovering from the storm surge damage caused by Hurricane Helene, and this storm has the potential to be much worse. Please, take this seriously.
I don't understand why, and how, people continue to buy homes on or near the beach in Florida, especially on the Gulf Coast. The insurance companies seem to be the only ones who understand, and act on, the risks involved. Even if a particular area isn't actually damaged, the increasing frequency of major hurricanes, and the associated rise of insurance premiums or lack of insurance, are bound to impact home values at some point, if they haven't already. Personally, I would invest zero dollars into real property in Florida, and not just near the beach. Good luck to you all, I hope it somehow works out for you.
It truly breaks my heart. I’m on the east coast of Florida but my cousin and his wife are still stuck in their house on a mountain in NC. They do have food and water and are sharing with their neighbors. Can’t believe our government says they don’t have the money for Helene. I pray for all of you that may get the brunt of this storm. If I’m able and you need nurses, I’ll come! I’ll help even if it’s clearing debris ❤
@@michelleking9542What you are stating is not fact-the government and FEMA are at work- the problem for the future is only 1-2% have flood insurance (I live on a mountain top unlikely to flood, but carry flood insurance and have a full home generator) The future extremes in weather will happen whether we prepare or don’t, whether we expect it or not…..😢
I still don’t understand why the suggestion I make every hurricane season that a substantial iceberg is towed to the mid Atlantic between the bulge of West Africa and the lesser Antilles to cool the waters is never considered. Back in the 70s there was a plan to tow an iceberg to the Arabian Sea that would have provided the desert states with fresh water for a decade. I don’t see why now we can’t tow one into the usual path of those devastating hurricanes, lower the temperature of the waters by a few degrees and deprive them of some of their driving force. An added benefit would be saving a lot of the coral reefs that are dying due to “bleaching” by rising sea water temperatures. That could substantially help augment fish populations we depend on in a cascading upward effect.
I moved from the area just north of Tampa Bay to Alaska 4 years ago. I have my mom, son and grandchildren living in the path of this hurricane and I am telling them to leave now but they are not taking this seriously enough to start packing now. So frustrating!

I live on the fourth floor in Cape Coral, Florida, and three hurricanes ago. The water blew up past our roof. those that are in an area prone to water surge may not have time to leave their area without the cars already been submerged or floating down the road.
How could they not have time? They are being told right now that it is coming
Myers, 5 miles up river, was flooded up to their second floors. Regardless of insurance costs, it’s becoming intolerable or impossible to live here.

Tampico just loaded this thing up and it's heading directly for Tampa now. How ironic. We just finished ripping out the walls in our house in New Port Richey and now this. Good Lord.
Probably better to not have done that during hurricane season...
Mandatory evacuation will begin Sunday night… into Monday night… by Tuesday??? It’ll be too late…

My family lives in Fort Myers and they are considering evacuation, they live 18 miles inland. They haven’t ever evacuated.
18 miles is pretty far. Are they in an evacuation zone?
I’m in ft Myers, thinking about leaving
I live in Ft. Myers. 18 miles in would generally be a non flood zone (such as Lehigh Acres). I live 1 block off McGregor Blvd and the Caloosahatchee River and have never evacuated and never been flooded. I don't know where they'd evacuate to since most of Florida will get the effects, but they should do what they feel is best, but I think staying at home would be better then driving through a hurricane..unless they're in a mobile home. Then they need to Get Out!!

There are so many things wrong w/your incompetent statement I don’t wanna even begin to entertain you & it
And was only a 3 when it hit Florida.
Prep now, Floridians! Take this very seriously. Get out of that area due to storm surge. Praying for all of you from Texas.
What insurance? Most working people in Florida either can’t get it or can’t afford it. Insurance is only for the rich!
It’s discomforting to think there are people alive and well this very moment who won’t be with us in a matter of 90-something hours.
Right. Thinning the herd if you ask me.
@cherryblossom-e7n you're already talking shit about ppl who haven't even died yet......what a world 😅
It truly breaks my heart.
I hope not … 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Such a horrifying thought:(
@@michelleking9542What you are stating is not fact-the government and FEMA are at work- the problem for the future is only 1-2% have flood insurance (I live on a mountain top unlikely to flood, but carry flood insurance and have a full home generator) The future extremes in weather will happen whether we prepare or don’t, whether we expect it or not…..😢
I went through Ian in port charlotte, it was the first hurricane I’ve ever experienced. This storm is starting to make me incredibly nervous
I hope that the people are evacuated well before this storm hits . 😢
I sense these gentlemen are extremely stressed. Being a meteorologist can't be an easy job these days.
Naah! That meteorologist KNOW what's getting ready to happen 😮.. when a meteorologist is nervous You need to take cover.
Actually, they live for this.
I saw a pond/small lake filled with floating rubber balls to prevent evaporation.
