The Aonach Eagach Ridge
The weather has been fantastic for a number of weeks and today was no different. The car thermometer registered 28 degrees as I parked up - it was going to be hot! I headed off gingerly and slowly around 17.30, mainly due to the large amount of gear but also knowing there was no rush! I met a few scramblers who were sun beaten and on the final leg of their day and the smiles on their faces said it all really
A little later and I popped out on the summit of Am Bodach and was greeted by the inhabitants, hungry for their tea! A little scouting about and I was lucky to find a cracking spot with the Chancellor below me that was offering a fine light breeze, enough to make the local blood suckers look elsewhere for their tea ;)
A quick pitch and then some tea. The views were amazing as always in Glencoe. The Bidean Massif looked very grand and had me thinking that the Massif is perhaps the most impressive mountain in the UK? May be I have been guilty of taking it for granted due to its accessibility but from this viewpoint it was looking immense!
I had tea and took some photos and watched the sunset- then bed…… It had been eight years since I’d last done the ridge, I spent some time thinking how I would find it in the morning with a tired mind and body! Not to worry the adrenaline was pumping when I woke at 03.30 and it really had not gotten dark at all. I notice maybe two stars above Bidean as I peered out during my doze! By 04.10 I was off and immediately descending Am Bodach - concentration required but no real difficulties… Then the fabulous walk to Meall Dearg with the sun rising behind me… The camp and early start meant I had the Ridge to myself and I lingered on the Munro watching the sun get higher and lighting up the Ridge that was rolling out before me…
Onwards I went - the scrambling becoming a little more sustained until I reached the Pinnacles. What a cracking location and scramble. Care required but again no real difficulties in this fabulous weather…. A little further until the scrambling ended on Stob Coire Beath then I about turned and reversed the route, again no one to be seen and I reached my tent around 0700. A quick strike and I set off back down - taking the Corrie route down which was a little less demanding with my big bag on. The sun was beating down and the streams made a grand refreshment stop.
Back at the car well before 0900 and early home. An amazing adventure. It’s amazing what you can pack into a short period of time The Ridge P.S. Not leaving it another 8 years!Music from Bensound.com

Don't suppose you got to see the sunset on the west coast tonight?
caitgems1 saw it from the east coast (check out my twitter feed 👌🌅🌅🌅) a great weekend for sunsets and sunrises 🌅
@@ScotlandsMountains absolutely incredible, never seen colours like it. All the best Murray 👌
dud you have cellular power up there? :)
Did this 34 years ago when I was 23 and was utterly terrified. Did it again 3 months ago aged 57 and was just as scarey as I remembered! Glad I did it though.
This place is at once, rugged, overwhelming, and in colour soft and gentle so that the heart soars and then melts. What a film. Thank you, Murray.
First time I did this I wasn’t ready for it despite thinking I was. After building up the fitness I did it another four years in a row and it was thrilling.
This is what drones were made for.Absolutely stunning footage only possible thanks to good use of the drone and some very clever editing. The ridge looks so intimidating and uninviting. Is it any wonder that some of the best mountaineers in the world practice to hone their skills in Glencoe .Really enjoyable being on the adventure with you.Thank you ATB
This was a wonderful advert for the absolute rugged beauty of Scotland! I can't believe that I have only just discovered this channel. Thanks for all of your hard work and the wonderful photography. Brilliant.
did it 35 years ago in mist rain and high winds and lived to tell the tail . best pint i ever had in the clachaig.
Its a great experience - maybe a little less so in wind an rain :)thanks for watching

Thank you VERY much for these impressing pictures. I love the scottish mountains but this is to demanding for someone without a real head for heights. It´s great to participate in your adventures!
Wow looks fabulous I have always fancied doing Aonach I now have to do it. Thx
That was totally epic. My heart was in my mouth watching you cross the pinnacles. The drone footage was superb, really nailed it. Well done Murray.
thanks you - had fun doing this one - although I wasn't saying that in the middle of the night whn my alarm went off!!lolThanks for watching

I did this last September. Watching it here has reminded me how awesome it was. I did fall however I had the foresight to hire an experienced guide who provided helmet and ropes. It was on my bucket list and so pleased it's done! Fabulous footage. Louise
Absolutely stunning. I wish I had the balls to do this, Dont think my Vertigo would allow it.
My favorite walk and day , always end up in the pub for a meal and a pint , magical
I worked in Glencoe for 2 ½ years. I'm from Fife and everyday waking up, everyday out on they hills is the only place where I've felt at home ❤. I've watched a lot of your videos covering the Glen.
Outstanding Murray. Great memories of my traverse back in the 80’s!
Thanks Garry - hope you enjoyed the video

Wow! I love hiking in the mountains, but those Pinnacle scrambles are something else, not for the faint hearted! Fantastic shots with the drone. I once did Striding Edge, round Helvellyn and along Swirrel Edge in snow and ice without crampons, just a pair of snow chains on my boots, they worked but eventually fell to pieces, thankfully after I was down.

Great video, thanks !
Brings back the memories. It's funny but you get more nervous watching it on a sunny morning than I was when I did it in the winter snow. Maybe something to do with that being nearly 40 years ago.
Superb footage. Conquered in 2012. Head for heights required 👍🏻
I've always loved the ariel footage. You get to see these places from a little higher up and 360 views. It's just like flying through this awesome terrain at a speed you can appreciate it. Thanks
Must be one of the most scenic parts of Scotland :)

Brilliant, thanks for that. I live in Aus now but that used to be my happy place. Several traverses in winter, only one in summer; August '82, my last visit. As I remember it the tricky bit (especially in winter with the shorter days and ice) was getting down the Clachaig gully after a full on day - then into the pub. Used to get special permission to camp in glen and saw ridge silhouetted against northern lights twice. Need to get it on my bucket list, and get back there.
Wow great vid - I did the ridge years ago with some friends I remember bricking it all the way!!
This was my very first walk nearly 20 years ago. The weather was like it was in this video. I remember being nervous about those pinnacles lol Takes me back. Thank you.
The Pinnacles can induce anxiety! and a place where concentration is definetely required. I had to go up and over them about 7 or 8 times on this trip to collect cameras and drone controllers etc etc! Glad I had a coffeee beofre setting along the Aonach Eagach that early :)

It’s an incredible day and your beautiful images brought back memories of my two traverses, once in deep winter which was hellish and the second in summer which was a joy. Mind you coming down the gully is never a joy
its a cracking route, wouldn't fancy the gully decent mind you!!
Take care and stay safe

God I miss Scotland. Beautiful. Great video.
An amazing video. Thank you. I did this in the early 2000's, also on my own, and I have to say that your video shows me just what was involved. I had no idea how incredible this walk actually is. I'm feeling very proud as I sit here. The third Crazy Pinnacle had me perplexed for a while I have to say. Thanks again for making this video, I loved every second of it.
Awesome video of awesome mountain. I love it😍
Unbelievable video, wonderful work and thanks for sharing it with us
Absolutely breathtaking, I would love to have the nerves and the head to attempt these ridge walks, until then thank you for posting this amazing video, best I've seen!!! Bravo! !!
epic video mate, definatley on my list to do!
That's no ridge, that's a set of dragon's teeth :-O I know the drone shots make it look worse than it is, but I still think I'd have trouble working up the courage to try it. Absolutely stunning footage though, and what a feeling it must have been to reach the final pinnacle and stand on top!
Its an amazing day out , if you dont feel comfortable, I know lots of people hire guides to safely take them across... Lots of gides available around Fort William and Glencoe

Fab, thank you for this video and congrats
amazing
I'm loving these videos! the drone footage really captures the exposure and surrounding landscapes.
Me too. The photography, the spectacular location and the music all make this one of the most beautiful videos on youtube.
Cracking video!! Amazing shots over Glen Coe from angles I've never seen! Some of those craggy ridges that plummet away to nothing are a wee bit daunting!!! Would love to do Am Bodach for those views!
Just back from Scotland with a lake district background went for a wander up clachaig ghyll it was an experience but got me hooked on exploring more and aonach eagach has intrigued not a Ridge to be messed with hence you tubing videos what can I say wow your video is amazing. Look forward to watching more ATB leona and Chris
Great views, wish I had a drone back in my days on the hills, first time I did this “walk 🙈” I made the mistake of decending Clachaig Gully path, never again, it was getting dark and I could see the pub just in front of my feet, wishing I was sitting inside the pub
I worked in that pub in 98, Met some cracking people.
An absolute inspiration.
Superb Watch.....What a couple of days you had....👍🏻
Wow, that ridge walk was something special, well done. Really enjoyed that one. 👍

Superb film, your work keeps getting better and better. Really shows how exposed the ridge is. I camped on top of Buachaille Etive Beag (Stob Coire Raineach) that night and the sunset / sunrise were superb, apart from the midges. I was sure I saw someone moving about on top of Am Bodach - it was you!

Great filming - but for anyone thinking of doing the route, it's something to treat with respect. Last time I did it, someone died in a party behind us (admittedly this was in winter, but it was very traumatic for the people involved). And a good family friend died falling into the Clachaig Gully taking a shortcut to the pub on the descent at the Glencoe end - ALWAYS continue on to the safe descent route rather than take the risk.
brilliant video. Makes me want to get up there again. your video is the first I've seen where you get a true sense of scale.

Cracking adventure Murray. I've seen the ridge many times before but always from the ground. I think the ridge walk is a little above my pay grade (well, on my own anyway). :-)
It's middle earth in Scotland 😁😎🤘
That brought back some good memories, like yourself Murray it's been a few years since I did this. Great film with some nice perspectives of the ridge, thoroughly enjoyed!
It doesn't look that bad until the Pinnacles. I did the Ring of Steall recently thinking i'd be ready for this next. Maybe not haha.
Real life skyrim :) I have to spend some serious time in scotland some day
Absolutely wonderful video. Your photography was beautiful. Your headcam shots were astonishing. Your drone footage was simply breathtaking. It reminded me of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings cinematography. Well done...
Or braveheart opening scene that's where its famed from
Getting vertigo at 11:20. I don't think i've ever seen such stunning footage from such a precarious vantage point before. Who's controlling the drone at 14:00?
Its an amazing adventure up there and had a great time along the ridge, the drones have numerous intelligence mode like follow me and point of interest which utilise GPS technologies enabling the filming. Just a one man show on this one

@@ScotlandsMountains would love to do it again, but the start is tricky climbing down onto the ridge with a back pack, need to get fit for it lol
Outstanding video. I don't know if I'd ever have the required anatomy to do that ridge. I'm going to go out with a guide hopefully this year and tackled Arran's two tricky spots, the witches step and the A'Chir ridge. I'm slowly building up my confidence and loving exploring Arran. Have you ever been yourself?
Hi Cams - not done the witches step but had a great weekend on Arran a few years back ( vlogs are somewhere in the archive ) where we did some of the corbetts then kayaked over to the holy Isle the following day - a magical place 👍
