I have been watching a lot of youtube videos about decoupaging with fabric. I think your idea of fussy cutting pieces is wonderful! Every video has you cut and sand the edges which sometimes pulls up the fabric. I was thinking it would be easier if the fabric did not come all the way to the edge of the plate, but using one piece of fabric makes that nearly impossible. I am not an artist or quilter and have no real 'eye' for color/pattern placement but for someone like me, I think having a design in the middle and using a subtle designed fabric around it just might work! So glad this video popped on my feed. Beautiful work.
Thank you. This is the best tutorial that I have seen on this subject, and I love how you demonstrate the collage technique. The red plate especially is beautiful. It is very helpful to learn about the dishwasher safe mod podge, and I like how you really just use a thin coat. I created two plates like this before I came across this video and I have some tips and some warnings. First tip is that you can get similar glass plates at the Dollar Tree store for a buck a piece. They have all different sizes and they all cost a dollar. You can save money on brushes by buying cheap chip brushes, but they might leave bristles, so be careful. I didn't care for using the sponges. Also, you can put the dish on top of a coffee can to work with it, upside-down of course, and you can certainly wear thin vinyl gloves if you don't want to get mod podge on your hands. I made one plate with fabric and one plate with a beautiful handmade paper, and the fabric is a lot easier to work with because it is more flexible than the paper and you can really get it on smooth without any bubbles. But the paper also came out beautiful even though there were some wrinkles on the back. Also, for finishing this you can use Krylon clear glaze varnish on the back. Just spray it on. It gives a nice high gloss and seals it. One thing I would not do again is use the matte finish Mod Podge. It just doesn't look as nice and it wouldn't be dishwasher safe. And don't put it on too thick because you will see brush strokes. My one question is do you let the fabric extend over to the thin side of the plate or do you trim it so that it is just completely on the back? I found it it is difficult to trim the fabric perfectly if you let it overlap on to the side.
Great tips!! Thank you! As far as the fabrics.. I have tried two different ways and I have found just a little over the edge then mod podge and whatever is over the edge is now stiff and easily trimmable with an exacto knife afterwards.
Omg...Trouble with a capital T. I used to quilt and sew a lot, but developed neuropathy in my hands that wont allow me to sew anymore. I gave up all my fabric. Oh! Big mistake! I just saw this video and am in love. Paper devoupage is out. I'm in love with fabric again. Thanks for sharing.
What looks even better than fabric is decorative napkins. They look handpainted! You can apply them to anything! Here's a tip , after you get all of your fabric or napkins in place you can use plastic wrap and cover the surface so you can push out the wrinkles easier especially with the napkins because they are so thin.
Beautiful plates! Thank you for sharing with us. 🌷 I'm hoping you can point me to a specific video: I have 2 big mirrors that I plan to decoupage with fabric (on the mirror itself.) I'm unsure how to make the final product smooth and glass-like (since the fabric will be ON TOP of the mirror vs behind the glass.) Any tips on how to do this?
@@enlightenedhummingbird4764 glad you enjoyed the video! Unfortunately I don’t have any specific videos that I can point you to. I would definitely do a search on UA-cam. There has to be something there.
Years and years ago I made a clear dish like this. I kept some empty spots and painted and used glittered paint. I cut small pieces of flowers from the fabric and glued them. From the distance it looked like that I painted the flowers.
This is an awesome technique! I’d like to try making "cookies for Santa" and give to my adult kids. There are some really great ideas! I’ve found a new hobby to start! 😉
@@CVQuiltworks is there a faster way to cure it? You mentioned the oven of 170 degrees? Is it in Celsius or Fahrenheit? Im hoping to try this on terracotta pots.
SOS - I NEED HELP ASAP: I modged podged the fabric to the back of my plates yesterday afternoon and let them dry ALL NIGHT LONG. And I started applying the modge podge to cover the fabric a few minutes ago and it doesnt seem like the modge podge is soaking into the fabric. Did I wait too long to make it work?? I'm flying out of town at 6am in the morning and I have to take these back with me so I need advise asap in case I have to start all over again.
Sorry for the delay in my response. The first coat of Mod Podge will dry hard, so the second and third coat will not "soak" into the fabric. It will be hard and that is what you want.
Just wondering about the backs of the plates. I’ve done a couple from your demo and the back dries quite rough. Have you put anything on the back to make it feel better?
Do you save them from your projects? I keep a bin of scraps from my projects and that works well. Otherwise if you try to Google fabric scrap bags you may find some sellers on the internet that have them for sale.
Place your plate on a bowl like the one I can see to your left instead of the wood. The bottom is totally free and you can turn the plate freely as well.

I love the plates and must try them.
I love the way you explain the process! You are Super!!!! I wonder how you cut your pieces for you plate? They were perfectly round. Thank you
Thank you Sonia! I just used my rotary cutter! It was fun!
Soooooo beautiful
they r so nice. tnx 4 saring. can u do this on plastic plates?
I don't see why you can't do it on plastic. Although I have never tried it.
could you sand the edges with very fine glass sandpaper?
Can water base varnish be used on top of “Modpoge “ products?
I am not sure about that. I would do a google search to find out if that works.
Amazing!! Will this work with sari silk fabric?
I don’t see why it wouldn’t! ♥️♥️♥️ love that idea!
Dishwasher safe ??!!!! But then good for handwashing, I like!
Yes! That is what it says on the bottle! Just follow the instructions.

First time in your channel love your decoupage plates, adorable, do you scrap fabric?
Thank you so much! Yup, scrap fabric is what I used, but you can do really anything you want! Enjoy!
what special attention do i have to do with the circular edge of the plate. to make sure that every thing fix well in all that circular area ?
I just trim the fabric flush with the edge and I have not had an issue.
Fabric reminds me of Tula Pink
When the mod podge cures, does it leave a tacky feel to it? If you happen to stack the treated plates with mod podge, do they stick to one another?
No tacky feel, yay! Mine have not stuck to one another!

When do we use the oven at 175 for an hour? Does it take the place of the 28 days?
I have not done that. Some plates etc are not oven safe. The instructions on the Mod Podge also don’t call for the oven at all.
Just wondering about the backs of the plates. I’ve done a couple from your demo and the back dries quite rough. Have you put anything on the back to make it feel better?
I actually have not added anything. But that doesn’t bother me that much since it is the back. I wonder if there is some kind of finishing spray?
I wonder… could resin be used to cover the back of the plate? 😉
Muito lindoooo
Could you use cardstock instead of fabrics
That is a great question. I think that the inks could run... I am not sure though. You may want to try a test piece first.
Wondering where to find fabric scraps?
Do you save them from your projects? I keep a bin of scraps from my projects and that works well. Otherwise if you try to Google fabric scrap bags you may find some sellers on the internet that have them for sale.
Is it possible to make the same with lace???
Absolutely!
👍
Do u sell fabric bundles, I don’t quilt or sew
You can find fabric yardage on my site as well as any bundles that might be available.
how many coats to seal ?
Imagine using tall glasses.
That would be beautiful!
can I put a laser print phot in the center then use the fabric ??
Sure... you can do anything you like!
Can you eat off these plates? I forgot to ask earlier 😊
You can because you put the fabric on the underside.

can you put a photo in the middle with the msteareal also
Sure! You would just need that photo transferred onto fabric first.

what is mod podge, for those not living in USA
