Hi! He’s absolutely correct on the curing time. There is NO sticky feel if they cure properly. I made these in October last year for Christmas, and they were perfect. Everyone loved them. I added a care instruction note taped to the back of the plate. I advised ‘a quick hand wash and complete air dry’, because my dishwasher is a beast I trust to get ‘everything ‘ off!!
Great Idea! I am doing a plate in native material for a friend of mine for this coming years Christmas present to her from me. I know she will love them. I am making her 2 so she can put them up on her wall.
Excellent video! I made over 100 for Christmas gifts last year. I used a dremel to clean up the edges of the plates. (fine grit). I also used a Mod Podge stiff bristle brush to smooth the fabric down for the first coat which keeps the glue off your hands. If you find that some of the Mod Podge has dried on to the front of the plate, rubbing alcohol softens the glue and makes it easier to scrape off the dried on glue.
I made plates for my halloween dinner last year. i made 25 plates with different halloween themed fabrics. everyone wanted to know where I bought the plates and when I told them I made all of them, they immediately wanted me to make them a set. New business? LOL! Anyway, I love this craft because you can make your plates match any tablescape theme. I do bake my plates to cure them. Much better and way faster than air curing. Great instruction video by the way!!
Thank you for this wonderfully detailed video. I had only just watched a video on another site (no where near as detailed) and despaired at the plates not being washable. Then I saw your video. YAY!!! Brilliantly done. Thank you so much.
Loved this video! Thanks for giving detailed instructions. Thanks for speaking clear other videos it’s hard for me to hear clearly. Thanks for showing us how to do the edges of plate.
i made these this past week. i used tissue paper and they turned out nice. i will make more but use material next time. looks a lot nicer. i also set mine on a large can of veggies. easier to get the edges and less awkward. 😊
those are pretty fabrics! from all the videos I watched today about decoupahe art, we can use pretty much anything with nice decorations to showcase and mod podge it! 🤩 thank you🙏
Love this vid. I did watch another one it was ok and I got the just of it. I have a couple of tips. I used a lazy Susan with a can on it, it made getting the edges a lot easier. I dried mine over my heat vents. I used the regular mod podge so when I was done I used a clear sealent just for extra protection in case the back got slightly wet. I hope that helps anyway. I also cut the excess material away so it was easier to work with. Thank you!!
I just tried making a couple plates. One was a light plaid & the other a black background with white dots. It appears that dark fabric shows Mod Podge brush strokes through the glass side of the plate. They are less visible with lighter fabric. The plates have been drying for 24 hours. Are the brush strokes showing with the darker fabric a common issue or am I doing something wrong?
Anything really. Wrapping paper, tissue paper, book pages, candy wrappers, artificial leaves....If it's malleable and can take the glue, you are golden.
Hi, I made some plates and they look good but not sure if they back of ghe plate is supposed to feel smooth or not, I've put the modge on 3 times but it still feels coarse is it supposed to x
@@ScrappyPatch I've seen napkins on another tutorial, thanks! I did a couple Xmas plates last year but the lady didn't show how to finish off the edges like you did...thank you!!!
Also I just did a fall theme plate. It turned out pretty good but I wonder if you know why some (a few) streaks will show through and other areas there is none and perfect looking!?
Thanks for the tutorial. I’ve made these before , but the edges were jagged and I didn’t think to use sand paper in this way to make them smooth. Thanks! I plan to make these as Christmas cookie plates for friends too, but I think I’ll also add a dollar store glass candle holder to make it into a cake/cookie stand. Do you think I’m to late in the season to do this if it’s the 3rd of December?
I made these and the instructions were really easy to follow. I got Dollar Tree candle holders and made them into cake stands. They turned out really cute. If I can figure out how to add photos, I’ll post some so you can see what they look like.
SOS.. I've tried to fabric on glass plates.. it's been weeks but the plates are not drying. The pod podge peels right off! Can I put them in the oven to dry them out? Also I tried to glue a candle holder on a plate to make it a tier plate and I used E6000 and it came right off! What do I do??
Very cute. I like the smoothness of the print material.....Can you do the same and demonstrate with paper, not napkins like everyone is doing, and glass instead of cloth-material ? Thanks.
Wow Matt, what a great idea! Thanks for making the instructions so easy to understand and a step by step approach with little cautions and suggestions. You go slow enough so one can grasp the whole concept and also be able to correct mistakes along the way. I just subscribed so am looking forward to your masterful tutorials! Have you done any videos on using napkins instead of fabric? Thanks so much!
That was a great video I didn’t know have to use sandpaper and if I want to put it on the top shelf of the oven does it have to be that type of Mod posh you use
If using dishwasher safe decoupage, this can be put on the top rack of the dishwasher. If you used regular mod podge, I would just wipe the top with a damp cloth.
I made nine this past Christmas. I find my biggest problem is the edges. Used tissue paper on one, made some holes in that one, had to redo:( Your plates are so pretty. Great tutorial. It is now, Jan, 2020 :)
I like to put varnish after I have put my three coats of dishwasher safe modpodge. My question is do I have to wait 28 days before I apply my varnish or will the modpodge continue to cure eve with the varnish is over it?
I just made one of the fabric plates, very pretty but rough on the back and sides. What can I do for that? Would it help to spray clear sealant on it. Thanks
You can use light grit sandpaper to smooth the roughness and recoat with the decoupage. You could also seal the back of the plate if you want but I didn't find it necessary.
I love your video. It's easy to follow.
Wouldn't have thought to use fabric 😲
That's awesome. It's opened a whole new world of crafting options.

I watched several other videos for Mod Podge plates and your was by far the best explained! Thank you
Your video is the best explanation! Thankyou so much!
Glad it was helpful!

Ellen Carlson, great tips I followed😊
Where did you purchase stiff bristle brush!
Excellent video with clear, well-explained, detailed instructions. Thank you so much!!
Best cookie plate/Mod Podge video! I am happy I watched it because my plates will turn out great now, thanks to your technique and tips.

Wow, they're so adorable. I didn't know Modpodge came in a dishwasher option. I also want to be able to wash my plates. Thank you!
All I can say is a fantastic video and instructor!!!!
Looks awesome, going to make some!
Yours is the best video I have viewed for this project. Thank you!
AWE!! Thanx

Thank you so much on your tutorial. Hoping to do mine as pretty as yours, mine will be done with the fabrics on the red truck for Christmas. Great Job
Love it. I like the woodsy fabric too.
Made these this Christmas. My friends loved them.
You did a nice job of explaining.

This was a great project, Matt!! I have wanted to try this for awhile. Tyfs!!
Whew! I’m glad I found your video early! Happy Holidays!
Love the plates and you make it easy
Great video !!!! Best video on this idea yet !!! thank you !!! I'm making Christmas presents !!!
Have fun!
I'm going to make these and cover with cookies/candies and give as gifts!!!
They are super cute!
They are gorgeous! Thank you!
Beautiful plates! My favourite is the one with the Christmas tree and reindeers :)
What do you use? If you can’t use alcohol cause I’m allergic to it rubbing alcohol.
Hi Matt, these are AWESOME, going to make these for gifts this year.
Very nice!

You can take a hair dryer or heat gun to the back and lightly go over it to get rid of them. Or just let them sit longer. They should go away.
@@ScrappyPatch Thanks!
Mine have been curing for over a month and the darker prints still show brush strokes. Dont know if ill beable to sell at my up coming craft show. Ugh
I'm going to make some as gifts..love it
Your plates are beautiful, thank you
Best video I've watched applying fabric to plates with Mod Podge! Great job!
Thanks, it;s such a simple thing, but they look great at the end
What can you use beside fabric to make a decorative plate. Like as a gift with a salutation
Anything really. Wrapping paper, tissue paper, book pages, candy wrappers, artificial leaves....If it's malleable and can take the glue, you are golden.
Thank you so much i loved watching your video and the narration was hilarious 😆😂😆
You're adorable... Love your tutorials so much ✌
LOL thanx ;-)
Great video...can't wait to try it.
Absolutely beautiful
Awesome job!

Love all!❤
Great video!
I love your cookie plates... just beautiful 🙂🦋
Thanks for ironing your fabric. I watched others doing the decoupage plates and they did not iron it and it was so wrinkled.
I love these 😍
Like your video gonna do a few for Christmas
Love this. Great gift idea.
Any fabrics can be used? Or only thin fabric?
I have seen these done with all kinds of papers and fabrics. I have seen some pretty cool ones that used burlap.
Looks great!
Loved the video! Have you tried using themed wrapping paper?
I have and it works good!! You can also use napkins
@@ScrappyPatch I've seen napkins on another tutorial, thanks! I did a couple Xmas plates last year but the lady didn't show how to finish off the edges like you did...thank you!!!

Was that a total of three coats or four ofmodge counting the first coats before you put the fabric down?
I make these plates. It is fun. .
I love it 💗💖💕👍💞👌👌👌👌
Beautiful plates...
Do you have to mod podge after sandpaper?
I would do another light coat of the Mod Podge after sanding.
I love craft and I love this idea. 👍
I ll make decoupage too. Thank for sharing. Nice know ur channel, Amilia - Singapore
Love your projects. I like the woods plate too. But- they’re all pretty. Thnx.
They all did turn out great! Thanks

Can I use the same process with deco paper

Well explained video..thank you so much!!
You are welcome!
Very helpful video❤️ can we use gift wrapping paper as well?
Yes you can. I think the thinner the paper the better. You can also use holiday napkins, I always find bunch on sale after the holidays!
Thank you great video 😻😻😻😻
Great job! Thank you!
Very cute. I like the smoothness of the print material.....Can you do the same and demonstrate with paper, not napkins like everyone is doing, and glass instead of cloth-material ? Thanks.
I️ just bought these same plates and mod lodge too! I️ better get in gear!
The fabric feels extremely rough..edges smooth but everything else is rough. Is it supposed to be? This is after the mod podge is placed
Yes the back will feel rough. You can take some light weight sandpaper to it if you want to and then put another coat of the mod podge to seal it
Scrappy Patch ...will try that..thank you
Wow Matt, what a great idea! Thanks for making the instructions so easy to understand and a step by step approach with little cautions and suggestions. Have you done any videos on using napkins instead of fabric? Thanks so much!
I have not used paper on the plates before, It would work just fine though. But I have done the inside of a vase with old comic books before.
That was a great video I didn’t know have to use sandpaper and if I want to put it on the top shelf of the oven does it have to be that type of Mod posh you use
Don't put it in the oven. It's top rack of your dishwasher safe. Yes you have to use the dishwasher mod pods other wise you need to hand wash them
what size plate did you use?
These are fabulous, can you hand wash them afterwards ?
If using dishwasher safe decoupage, this can be put on the top rack of the dishwasher. If you used regular mod podge, I would just wipe the top with a damp cloth.
Scrappy Patch but if I use dishwasher safe mod podge do I still have to wait 28 days to lightly hand wash? Sorry for stupid question lol
awesome, just great, palm springs,ca.
can we wash these plates ?????
If you use the dishwasher safe Mod Podge you can pit these in the top rack of your dish washer.
Why when do I get glue lines after it has dried?
How do you get it off some of the excess mod podge if it gets on the edge and the front side of the plate if it’s already dried
I would use a non abrasive scrubber sponge to get it off. Like something you use to wash your dishes.
I made nine this past Christmas. I find my biggest problem is the edges. Used tissue paper on one, made some holes in that one, had to redo:( Your plates are so pretty. Great tutorial. It is now, Jan, 2020 :)
I've just done a glass with mod podge and servette why it feel rough to touch once dry
Love this, I also seen ppl making these with tissue paper.
I like to put varnish after I have put my three coats of dishwasher safe modpodge. My question is do I have to wait 28 days before I apply my varnish or will the modpodge continue to cure eve with the varnish is over it?
love it
Loved it..
Love it!
I made these and look nice! Was wonderin-can it be done with the clear plastic plates?
I don't see why not!
Love it!!!
Thank you!
Great video, thanks.
Sooooo pretty... Thank you :)
