Wow! This is the only reason why I wouldn't do a barn door in my bathroom but you have solved that problem.. THANKS!
Tawanda thanks for your kind comment, and glad I could help with your project.
I knew there was a way to latch a single barn door but couldn’t figure out the lock system. This is perfect and works even better for those of us who live in all concrete constructs.
Thank you soooo much! This is an excellent approach for those of us with fewer DIY carpentry skills, lol. Plus, it's an inexpensive fix. The seal can easily be replaced if/when needed. Much appreciated! 🙏🏼😄
So happy I found your video! My husband said there was no way to cover the crack...I said there was. Excellent idea with the latch and seal. Thank you for sharing!
Glad to have helped and good luck with your projects.
Love the seal and bolt lock mechanism. I live in there and we don't use sliding doors nearly enough here!
You're the only tutorial that I can find that uses the bolt and strike on the opening side of the door. Others use the same type of bolt and strike plate or hole on the other end (fully open side inside the bathroom) so to lock it you'd not be near the handle which i don't really think I could enjoy that.
I feel Luke the handle and lock need to either together as 1 thing or right next to each other!
Your beautiful old door could really use some furniture wax or matt varnish to help the old paint not come off
This is such an easy solution, we are converting an old farm livestock shed into a home and I wanted to do a barn door on the powder room. Was struggling with barn door (which I prefer) or a pocket door, but the pocket door kits are so expensive for a custom height door. Thank you for the inexpensive solution!!
Glad to have helped and good luck with your project.
Are you documenting any of your barn to home build!? That sounds awesome!
This was extremely helpful!!! I had a gap and would like more privacy. I'm headed to get Platinum seal now!!! Thank you:)
I'm so glad to have helped. Hope your project works out nicely and thanks for commenting.
Thank you! It was very helpful 😊
Glad to hear it, and good luck with your project.
Good idea.
What if you need to emergently open the door? Have you considered a pin hole in the hole for the lock thru to the outside??
Nice idea!
Have you tested the door for lead paint?
I’ve noticed many complaints of sound carrying from bathrooms with barn doors, does this seal help with that issue?
Yes, it helps with the sound and it will be very comparable to a conventional bathroom door in terms of privacy. Hope this helps and good luck with your projects.
Great idea! Can u link the hardware kit?
So the sliding door kit is linked in the video description below the video, and it is 60 inch track for a 30 inch door. So if you have a bigger door then look on Amazon for a track twice as long as your door is wide, or for the amount of travel you need. I purchased the 4 inch sliding bolt and the platinum window seal at the Home Depot or Lowes, but you can find those on Amazon as well. I am sorry for not having a link for the lock and the seal, but the video should have a clear description of these items. I hope this helped and good luck with your projects.
🌎🇪🇨🙂👍
Someone make this man a sandwich 🥪!!
A thin wood trim piece on the back side of the trailing edge of the door would help compress the foam as the door is shut and allow the foam to be slightly off the door and eliminate some of the friction. If the foam is under constant friction from the sliding door it's not going to last long.
