I always watch this channel for advice, and for getting an edge on my home improvement skills. Most of what I know about projects like these, I have learned from this channel. Over the last two years, Home RenoVision has been tremendously helpful. Now, taking what I have learned, I would offer only to install/orientate the bump stop key screws to be on the top, so they’re hidden, and the handle on the left, when opening to the right (handle on the right if opening to the left). I know these guys are very professional, and they are likely installing based on the client’s wishes. I only offer these two cents, has I just recently installed my own barn door in the master bedroom and went through these parts of installation myself.
I've watched lots of videos on building things in my home and I really like how you explain things so simply and with a sense of humor! Enjoyable to watch ....and Learn! Now I'm going to go hang my homemade barn doors!
I think your hardware installation instructions are the best on UA-cam. I am grateful because I now feel confident I can tackle my install correctly. Thank you!!!!
The discs are to be installed at the top of the door to stop it from jumping off the rail track. The two plastic anchors are to be used to screw the bottom guide in case you have concrete floors.
I did not quite see how the door is holding down at the bottom to the base board. Really nice door and with the mirror, looks fancy! Love watching your videos. Thank you
cant tell ya how many times a GC will have me come out to install these things and there is no backing whatsoever in the wall and they have no clue that that is a problem. I usually will carefully cut out the drywall and implant a mounting board sort of like the one you suggested to put right on to the surface but the way I do it, to keep the door from ending up way too far away from the wall, I "implant"a 3/4 thick piece of wood that can be painted to match the wall color and it protrudes about 1/8" to 1/4" depending on sheetrock thickness ,bevel the edges or ease the edges and it looks really nice clean and professional. personally I prefer not to have the mounts attached to drywall at all even if it has backing behind, some doors are very very heavy and it compresses the sheetrock over time, the rail gets loose resulting in the door dragging on the floor or hanging crooked. I have gone out to a few where this had happened and was hired to fix it. recessed wall plate is the best way to go in my humble opinion.I have also done 1/4" steel plate mounted to the wall secured to studs but this is a pain in the butt ,only do it when the aesthetic of the install requires it.
Can’t wait to get my hubby to make the door and hang it ... thanks for being so easy to understand with the instructions my husband speaks very little English but he knows construction lol
Love it When I watch any of your videos it gives that energy to go down to that basement and do something ( it’s been a year and still at that framing stage 🤔)
The handle side would be preference for the user...not everyone is right or left handed. I love your humour at the hardware they gave you. Good tips on Jerry rigging. Thoughtful to install a mirror for a teenager!
Very helpful as alway, your videos are entertaining to watch, but even more important is that I always learn something(s) - often many things. On the handle for the door, I do believe the hardware was correct, the machine nut goes on top and takes most of the force, the lag bolt goes on the bottom and is mainly there just to keep the handle from moving around. Think of the front door to a house that has a handle that extends down to grab, the bottom of the handle often just has a more minor type of fastener primarily to keep the handle straight up and down and down and to keep it from moving from side to side. Thanks again for the consistently excellent videos!
The header over the door should be enough. But you can find a stud or two in the wall and use those for support away from the door opening. I thought there would be guides at the bottom of the door to keep it from swaying. Very nice custom door, the mirror is perfect. Thanks for the tips.
I’m so glad I stumbled across your channel! I literally stayed up, way to late, just to watch all your helpful videos! (The best part is-I wasn’t even looking for this genre) Your videos are great! Very instructional and helpful! Thank You!
I enjoy your videos to keep an eye on my contractors(new to the business). I'm looking to see an opening of the wall to install a header for dual heavy glass doors. This video alludes to what I need.
I like this video because it shows what not to do. Love this guy’s enthusiasm but he makes things extra complicated when going on tangents .. just keep it simple Stu...
i believe the discs that you installed on the floor trim are intended to be installed at the top of the door to prevent it from jumping or getting knocked of the track.
Your right I hung about 30 and that’s exactly what they are for and should’ve another plastic piece that you put a screw on the baseboard but definitely not those 2 discs
@@alexcomander3115 Installed one in an opening that was already trimmed out between two rooms. PIA to get the door aligned in its opening (can see door front and back) then getting proper height off the floor which is not level. The 2" at top is crucial as is the slotted guide on floor.
Yup - it was obvious as soon as I saw it. The other consideration is that this particular barn door set up is probably ok because there is no real air flow between the rooms. There was no bottom guide to stop the door ‘swinging’ in the breeze.
Just what I needed! I am building double sliding doors with mirrors for my daughters closet. One door slides behind the other. Still deciding if the door that goes behind the front door should have the mirror or chalk board surface to write on and decorate herself as she loves to draw.
I'd highly recommend trying out the Metabo HPT 36v impact driver... there are power settings so you don't over do it on the lag bolts. (and extra power settings for when you need it..) Pretty great driver.
Handle was meant for use with a thumb lath and a corresponding piece on the back side. Thus the lag bolts to attach the bottom and the machine thread bolt for the top
Need to explain where the black rail (@78") sits over the opening (left to right). Might have to extend 8" past door opening. Most barn doors have a "T-slot" or routered slot on bottom for door guide to prevent door from swinging in/out (3/8" off avg. floor). Your door will be swinging around as it's more than an inch off the floor. Since it's a closet installation, door will be seen from only one side - install is thus easy. Good video!
You are awesome 👍 I'm building a man cave for myself adding a bathroom with it plus when my kids come home from college n Marines thank you for knowledge your closet door is what I want
I was hoping you would show more of the door guide install on the floor because the kit that I have mentions having to Mitre through the bottom of the door for the guide
Great simple video! I thought it was funny how you raved about the DeWalt impact tool.....as it kept letting the bit fall out of the chuck! I only buy Makita tools ..for that reason! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video love the anchors : ) Whenever there's for trim to clear you have to go with a board up top, 3/4-5/4, looks cool with black bolts or ledger locks, I guess you could shim out the top track with nuts and paint then black so long as your mounted solid in a header or so sneaky wise backing like this guy
Man you are so good at what you do i was just thinking about the wood above and will be doing it just to be drifferet keep up the good work P.s any project i am planning to do i go on UA-cam and poop you are there
Great video! Very helpful! Could you do a video on power tools for beginners? I'm very intimidated by them to use them but I love building and putting together things. Thanks!
Went to check on barn doors n hardware. In this video Jeff says to measure from top of door to bottom of roller which he says is 2". But I was told today it's 6" because you have to take in consideration the bracket above the roller.
Pure magician Jeff is!! The notching with the circular saw was amazing to watch!! Great video Bud. A ton of DIY bard door videos but, few on actually how to mount them after you've made them!! Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
This dude is just a really awesome individual, so talented and skilled in his trade and makes everything look so easy and seamless, and yet so humble.
I’m so happy to have you helping me along. I’m a “DIY” girl and quite often need guidance...Thank you!

Came here for the 'handle' comments. You guys didn't disappoint.
Can’t wait to get my hubby to make the door and hang it ... thanks for being so easy to understand with the instructions my husband speaks very little English but he knows construction lol
He said the door is 81.5 and he needs half an inch for the bottom so that takes him to 82.5 ?
Love it
When I watch any of your videos it gives that energy to go down to that basement and do something ( it’s been a year and still at that framing stage 🤔)
The handle side would be preference for the user...not everyone is right or left handed. I love your humour at the hardware they gave you. Good tips on Jerry rigging. Thoughtful to install a mirror for a teenager!
Yes! Great intimation but like others have said. The handle is on the wrong side! 😂😂😂
Pragmatic and honest.Great tips. Great vid. Plain and simple and true. Keep em coming, please. Thanks so much for sharing this.

THANKS BRAH! I for one probably would have been confused as well! But thanks to you I am learning lots!
I love your handy heart technique you add to each project. Great job❣️

Thank you for the kind words. We are very glad to hear you like our video content.
Thank you..u saved me a lot of hassle for an unexpert female trying to install this
Thank you! And your humor is much appreciated.
Life is short if you don't enjoy the ride!
I love this !! This legit looks like a barn door. !! Love the texture in that wood !!
Now this is the type of fella you'd love to be your boss as an apprentice!
Agreed, I thought about it too he's cool and really thoughtful man
I enjoy your videos to keep an eye on my contractors(new to the business). I'm looking to see an opening of the wall to install a header for dual heavy glass doors.
This video alludes to what I need.
Glad to see that project done! Looks great. I would've put the handle on the left side of the door. Keep up the great videos!
Ryan Petzold I agree. I'd put the handle on the action side. Probably a Canadian thing, like putting the light switch outside the bathroom.
exactly what I was thinking. great video though!
This client is left handed and was involved in the decision process.
The light switch thing is very rare.
Home RenoVision DIY if the client said so, you did it right.
That may be possible but how would that work?
After the door is hung you mount them directly on top of the door. It reduces the gap between guide rail and door.
Jeff Reid this is correct. Was dying watching him use them for the baseboard
Your right I hung about 30 and that’s exactly what they are for and should’ve another plastic piece that you put a screw on the baseboard but definitely not those 2 discs

Love the door and how you added the mirror! Great tutorial! 😍
We appreciate the comment. Cheers!
Should he install the handle on the left side of the door?
Robert T. Yes!!
Robert T. I agree awkward to close
Yup.
Why? It’s a preference.
Yup - it was obvious as soon as I saw it. The other consideration is that this particular barn door set up is probably ok because there is no real air flow between the rooms. There was no bottom guide to stop the door ‘swinging’ in the breeze.
Nice. I’m partial to mounting the handle on the left, I’m just used to that I guess.
I always come to your channel when I wanna do things right!
Just what I needed! I am building double sliding doors with mirrors for my daughters closet. One door slides behind the other. Still deciding if the door that goes behind the front door should have the mirror or chalk board surface to write on and decorate herself as she loves to draw.
Those little circles go on top of the door to prevent going off the rail
Wow!! You are awesome at what you do. And such a good instructor. Love the step by step and the camera man it awesome catching all the steps too.
Thanks for the video! About to add a barn door to our master bedroom
We love your videos. Thank you. We are installing our barn door in my quilting studio
As always great step by step instructions that take the fear out of DIY... Thank you

Great. I loved this vid. I was taught some stuff to think about and it was fun to watch. Thanks for this.

Really pretty. You did a super job. Thank you for sharing
Now that looks awesome.

Nice job! This will look great for the laundry room 🙂
Good overview for my upcoming project. I"m just pondering the type, style of door to close area between bedroom and Master Bath.
