  • This is a video for do it yourself handymen and women, who would like to use a sliding barn door in bathroom applications. It is constructed with top brands to give a solid, quality construction that helps with noise control. I don't go into hanging the rails and leveling the door since there are so many videos that do that for you. This video is entirely about how to seal bathroom sounds and smells inside the bathroom, you don't want them anywhere else right? Barn doors like these are increasingly popular for applications in bathrooms, closets, living areas and other interior applications where a sliding door is preferable or even necessary because of space limitations. This video shows how to make such a door soundproof, and as much as possible, odor proof. In addition, a second video, How to Build a Solid Barn Door was made with the same door to show how to build it cheaply from scratch using common hand tools. It can be built with actual barnwood or other rustic materials.
    Fixer upper projects can include this barn door for a nominal price with great results. Farmhouse décor is increasingly popular, as well as Scandinavian furniture design such as that from Ikea. Both are simple, uncluttered design styles that lend themselves to do it yourself, or home improvement projects that are seen on HGTV shows like Flip or Flop or Property Brothers.
    It’s not only about learning how to do the work, whether you are a beginner or a pro, these are tips that can save you time and make your life easier. If you are just starting out, these tips will help you familiarize yourself with the best tool to do the job, and even better save you time. Better yet, I show how the job is done and tell you when a particular part of the build is better left to a specialty shop that can do it faster and cheaper than you can do it yourself. Regardless, you will acquire the knowledge of how it’s done, so that you can make an educated choice about whether to do it yourself.
    Sound like something that would be useful? I also cover a ton of manufacturers for the parts that are needed on each build. All in an effort to make this information a practical, everyday fix for common household problems. Hit that subscribe button to send questions and comments.

    Nice video, good way to keep the edges of the sliding door from allowing light and sound through.

    Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Is that a solid wooden door or hollow core?

      It's solid. I've really got to get on that other video where I built the door! Thanks for watching.

    What is the strips of stuff you were putting up at the last part. Is that weather stripping? You didn’t write notes on the screen about it. Great idea! Thanks

    Thainks for the video. I have to put a sliding door at the bottom of my basement stairs. Sound of kids playing video games comes right up this stairs. This will be very helpful in my situation. How do you seal at the bottom of the door. Use a door sweep? is there a compressible foam or rubber seal that can hold up to the friction of the door sliding?

      Very good question. We usually don't try to seal the bottom of the door because it has an air gap just like swinging doors. How big is your air gap? If not too big you might try a seal like the one put on the top of the door.

      We ended up installing plush carpet squares which had a 1/4" foam pad attached. Carpet was 3/4" thick and I hung the door to be 5/8" of the floor. Door slightly compresses the carpet to seal the bottom without creating too much friction.

    Whats the wood cladding on your ceiling?

    • @toddfowler4159
      @toddfowler4159 Рік тому +1

      The ceiling is finished in more 1 X 6 tongue and groove pine planks, just like what is used to construct the door.

      I just noticed that the 1x6 pine on the ceiling is knotty pine whereas I used clear pine for the door. Hope that helps.

      @@toddfowler4159 it looks great! Unfortunately tongue & groove is very expensive now I might try this with just regular planks

    Is this solution good for bathrooms with Toilet, Is it keeps the smells inside ? 😅

      This seal works around three edges of the door, top and two sides. The bottom has an air gap just like any bathroom door. I would say it works as well as a swinging door, which is a big improvement on this type of door.
