Im a newcomer to beetlejuice as a whole. I just watched the first one for the first time, a week before watching the new one. With no nostalgia for the original, i honestly enjoyed the new one more than the first. I didnt care for jenna ortega at all, but everyone else did good i thought. I was a little sad that micheal keaton had lost some of his erratic behavior/energy, but he did good for this film. It was very enjoyable, and very funny!
I went in with very low expectations but I ended up liking it quit a bit. It was far from perfect but I thought it was really fun overall. My kids really liked it and I used this as an excuse to show them the original and introduce them to Tim Burton. So my opinion leans heavy on how much fun I had taking the kids to see it. They were split with my sons preferring the new film and my daughter siding with me and favoring the original.
I didn’t think it was that bad guys 🤣🤣 but fun review guys 👍🎥 also now you got me thinking about Jenna Ortega, I feel like you right , it’s the same acting in any movie she plays 🤔 👍
There was alot going on in that moive, at least one of the storylines could have been deleted, but I liked it. Michael Keaton stole the show of course, he was great. And I loved the whole Soul Train thing, although I'm sure most of the young kids didn't get that. I'm glad I went to see it.
I think the character Beetlejuice should have gotten more focus and less time with side quests. But I really think they got a lot right with this one. Amazing artistry with the set design, sound design, costumes, special effects, make-up etc. and Danny Elfman really 1uped his original themes. I had to stay through the credits to listen to that great closing piece. Could the story have been better - absolutely but it was so much fun in my eyes.
The first movie definitely holds a special place in my heart but as an adult, I can see the original truly isn’t well written. The trailers for this one made me think it was just going to retread old ground and be boring. I was pleasantly surprised. The first 30 year sequel to “subvert expectations” in a good way. I do agree somethings are odd but it felt chaotic in a good way, in a very 80s way imo. My biggest issues were Jenna Ortega and the choices for Lydia but the choices with Lydia are called out and addressed properly for me. Wish it wasnt done entirely but at least it was explained. I enjoyed this film a lot. I feel it is objectively better than the original. Plus I do like how he made it more gross and bloody 🤷
It was kinda over stuffed. But I did really like it. I thought it was way better than a long awaited sequel had any right being. Interesting thoughts though guys.
The intro credits was my favorite part in all seriousness. Michael Keaton killed Beetlejuice for his age. But yeah other than that, the movie was a mess.
Thanks for the review guys.... i only saw Beetlejuice once in my life and i couldn't understand why people liked it and got so much status through the years. I went back and watched it again before i watched the new movie and honestly i still didn't care for both movies. I am not saying that i hate them but i just don't get the appeal and i don't find the humor funny at all. Maybe that's a European thing hahahaha since the second movie isn't a big success internationally just like the first one maybe we don't get Tim Burton's humor and vision 😂 Anyway i won't be seeing these movies anytime soon, more like never again LOL. Now onwards to Gladiator 2 in the hope that that movie actually delivers 🤗
I did have fun with it but of course it can't touch the original. I did feel the Monica Bellucci (Burton's current gf) character was pointless other than giving Beetlejuice something to do. I never like Jenna Ortega in anything and the ghost subplot writing was not good. Agree that Catherine O’Hara played the character well though. I did enjoy the special effects and many of the musical numbers throughout. With that said day 1 steelbook haha!
I thought that this sequel was awful as well. I gave it a 1 star on Letterboxd. It was terribly written, Jenna Ortega was a bore, and all of the plot lines were dull and uninteresting. I love the original. I grew up watching it. Even the animated series was solid from what I can remember. Great reviews! 🤘🎃🤘
This is probably more for Ken should have went to go see Alien Romulus. I already saw it twice in theaters. Once at Cinemark XD and the other at a digital theater.
I saw the first one for the first time last year I think. Wasn’t a huge fan cuz he wasn’t in it that much. Doesn’t seem like that’ll change much from your guys review for the new one
ill give it a 3 like michelle did. wouldve been a 3.5 is jenna ortega wasnt in it. i agree that shes so boring & is the same exact character in all of her movies and that character wasnt even good the first time i saw it lol i pray that they stop letting her ass in EVERYTHING
I agree with you guys, the script was awful, and the lack of a score by Danny Elfman throughout the movie could really be felt. He did 18 songs for the original and only 2 for this one: one for the beginning and one for the end. The movie felt like it had no heart.
Since forever, I've always boycotted all sequels, remakes, reboots, etc. Glad to hear that with Beetlejuice 2, once again I've been proven right. Nothing ever beats the ORIGINAL.
14:14 "Everybody has a right to their own opinion." Everybody except for you two. Lockstep, every time. It's almost eerie at this point. It'd be like watching Siskel & Ebert, except they agreed every week.
Really enjoyed the movie.
Beetlejuice beetlejuice was awesome movie

Totally get that! Our kids didn’t really like it either so it was just a fail for us, lol.

She has no range!
I'm with you Ken. Beetlejuice is a core memory for me being an 80s kid. Watched it on a loop. This new flick wasn't passable. Horrible

I’m 36 and I hated the Soul Train thing! 😂
@@marriedwithmedia Yea but you hated everything about the movie, so......🤣🙄
Tim Burton’s next film is The 50 Foot Woman
😲

Agree about too many subplots. The whole X-wife was a complete waste. Anyways I did enjoy the movie, give it 4 out of 5 stars.. Did see it twice.
It's been the number one movie two weeks in a row, so it obviously did something right.
Marketing killed it.
@@midlevelmedia100%. But even to me the trailers didn’t do much for me. So i’ll be skipping it entirely.
Nostalgia is a powerful marketing tool.
Even for a terrible movie like this one.

Gotta get that steel! 😂
It wasn't great, but it's ok. 3.5/5. There you go -- a rare middle ground.
Good review and cool video guys!👉🏼🙂👈
Thank you!

Loved it

First time i disagree this was great
I thought it was an unfocused hot fun mess.

I enjoyed it, it captured the feel of the original

No new ideas. Just retreaded movies from the past. Can not imagine how movie theaters are not empty. Thanks guys for your review.
Thanks for watching!

Why are you still here? We get it, you hate when we have the same opinion. You comment it every review!
@marriedwithmedia I like the guy, what can I say. And let's not exaggerate.
