And if so: how did the other players react to witnessing that story first hand?
@Sinlesssoul-- masterful piece of character development so far for Onyxia. Without giving anything away, did she "Turn out" the way you hoped she would?
@@lymboxx Downtime really depends on what your players are wanting to do. For this campaign, our DM gave the entire party a lot of solo-sessions for our individual businesses, but we also occasionally got together to help each other out as needed. When it came time to adventure again, our DM quickly summed up everything we accomplished during the downtime, and carefully weaved it into the story. There were also a few occasions where the DM just went around the table and asked each player what they would do during their downtime, and while that player interacted with the DM, the rest of us either listened or took a break to eat and such.

i like it good story this is the kind of thing that should be in a good d&d story of course the question is how she will deal with other dragons when she meets them- a story about a elf raising a female dragon and having to deal with a male dragon making advances would be quite funny
@@sinlesssoul well there are many ways this could go, if we are doing the daddy long legs scenario i wouldn't be surprised as dragons can polymorph, but i think him dealing with a large male black dragon who wants his daughter would be funny as one thing i saw a while back said "Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup"
What are the odds that I was planning on making a Chaotic Good Black Dragon Character with a homebrew dragon race of my own creation, with a backstory of being raised by humanoids instead of dragons? This was a decision I made two months ago. Then this video came out. Wow.

Notes from a NG human idiot; Greetings from Lovely Restenford! A Foreign Noblewoman named Jane D.Hull ounce said "At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of the Parents." i like how wholesome this story is so far, what with OP teaching Onixia the differences between right/wrong, Good/Evil and Actions/Consequences. I remember reading somewhere in 3.5e D&D that, if raised differently, dragons of all types would develop an alignment based on what their taught instead of their natures. So i wish Mike the best of luck with little Onixia. As always.... May your pantheon ever favor you Baron Trevelyan of Restenford
This is super cool. I love the conflict of nature and nurture. I bet the DM had a blast coming up with Onixia's personality and RPing against the nurturing, loving father figure. But of course, as history shows, true love conquers all.
Black Dragons are probably the hardest dragons to train/raise due to their naturally evil nature. The only dragon I see coming close to being that difficult to raise would be a Red Dragon nut even they don't kill for sport.
I think we can all agree we need more wholesome content like this. I know it’s almost a year ago since this was posted. But plz this is the type of content that is the best. It’s dramatic, wholesome and overall great to listen too
You can tell easily by the dragon's behavior what the DM is thinking. "This is completely broken overpowered, and a good black dragon never happens. My player had better work very hard if he wants to make this happen. He'd better earn this, and earn it well.
@@aaronimp4966 and there's also chance. The nat20 for example helped a ton. There were a couple of moments when too low a throw or a nat1 could've ruined everything. The dice gods can be dicks and even with all that effort, one could say "nope" and then stories like this fail to happen. I guess this makes them rare as players can't achieve these things with skill alone and many are skilled but still, it kind of sucks to know that luck plays such a huge role, even when you're trying to raise a dragon. It's dungeons and dragons for hell's sake, you should be allowed to befriend a dragon, every dragon
@@zawsrdtygbhjimokpl6998 there was arguably a balanced reason why a lawful good character should not raise a black dragon. Surprisingly and aganist all reasonable sense this scenario is somehow functional. Definitely odd.

I like this story so far the Dm who guided you has a great sense on what it’s like trying to teach a little girl anything mine is so strong headed I’m just glad she doesn’t have wings and the ability to breath acid hahaha
This is actually an astonishingly similar story to a Pathfinder game I DMed. Our Neutral-Good Oracle ended up swearing a blood oath to protect a "child" without realizing what the child in question was. Long story short, she did an incredible job, and over time, Scourge the black dragon became a full member of the party. I've even done a couple of drawings of him over time. It was a very fun surprise twist non of us - especially me, the DM - were expecting.
I've been playing D&D for years. And the one thing I always wanted was to have my own dragon. This here is a really good idea How I can accomplish that in. A game that I hope to be joining soon.
be carfull and good luck most dragons are unfriendly to the raising prosses at least in D&D. If the chanal dedicated to D&D monster lore is anything to go on. Man Dragon culture is fascinating and Comatic ones especially the blue are curious to say the least.
i must point out that the DM of this story deserves a prize for how perfectly he developed the situation and the mind of the dragon, as well as the player.
true. Oh my gosh could you picture the anime of this. It would be so interesting if a little grisly. ug..forgot about the kiling things with acid part there for a moment.
I love the idea of an evil dragon going though a nature vs nurture conflict. I actually had a somewhat similar idea for a pc that was a baby blue dragon and his quest for revenge on the murders( heros) who killed them but is disguised as an adventure to not only get stronger but also to try and learn information on where his targets are. The party being more good aliened.
I’m a mixture of both. I think I’d have made the black dragon more aggressive and territorial, but not at all “evil”. And with care, love and food theyd be more patient and relaxed. Like a tiger or lion. They might imprint on someone, but not all humans are safe then.
Am I the only one here that think Onyxia acted like any other human child would? Anyway this is a really good story so far and I hope part 2 will be as well.
>.> I mean, it's cute so far. but is still Black Dragon, so not seeing how this wont end poorly, but I am absolutely interested for what happens in prt 2
Heh. We don't sell pets in our Kingmaker game, but we've certainly been collecting them. Our city watch now consists of owlbear-mounted kobolds. I don't remember where the drakes ended up. Oh, and the king wrestled and tamed a giant roc single-handedly. He now rides it places when he wants to make an impression. The eggs got handed over to the martials for safekeeping.
When your Dragon learns to take Human form and takes the name Katrana Prestor. *WATCH HER LIKE A HAWK AND KEEP HER AWAY FROM ANY KINDOM'S.* With a young boy king during an Orcish invasion. :P lol
aw I loved this! I love dragons and I'm trying to write a good dragon story involving my own dragon spices right now and haven't settled on a setting but I like fantasy video game worlds. Still I did love trying to play with this angle or even something similar. Always entertaining or thought provoking. I hope in ends well for the both of you. At one point I was working on a redemption story that was world jumping at the same time. It would take place over thousands and thousands of years but the story would look at the before and after the redemption and what it actually takes for people to come around. It was a tyrant queen of dragons that had been attacked by everyone and never knew love growing up. It was interesting but I don't think I would ever be able to do it justice. Tried to play with my brother a bit with her but he didn't get her enough to play well, as good of a DM as he is. Other wise never played her. Usually its a duality of a human and a dragon stuck in the same body but the human is usually the one in charge with the ability to morph and use the powers from the worlds and creatures they visit, magic too. Drain spells are very painful and can lead to death or instability that then leads to death. Like I said interesting. They are so powerful that most things try to attack them or run from them when they sense there magic undampened.
I keep coming back to this damn story it's just to good... of all the videos on DnD this and "the grey necromancer" are the best imo.. I'v listened to both several times.
What's funny about this to me is that in the game I'm currently playing, our sorcerer(draconic) is raising a baby blue dragon(Irvanth) . And my character a dragonborn cleric is like his aunt, trying to raise him good and maybe a follower of Bahamut.
As a father, this story touched a special place. As a gamer, I would have had to build another character as my character would have decided to retire from adventuring as soon as the Onyxia asked what being a daughter ment.
Oh this whole story was so damn cute. It is prime book material, would love to hear/read more! I am definitely saving this to rewarch again after a while :)
"I had Fun! You made No Fun! I dont like Noise! Why you do this? I hate you!" Perfect response: "Why am I showing you this? Why I command you to listen?... Becuse Its your fault. i like it good story this is the kind of thing that should be in a good d&d story
of course the question is how she will deal with other dragons when she meets them- a story about a elf raising a female dragon and having to deal with a male dragon making advances would be quite funny
Hehe...well, you are definitely going to love where this story goes :)
What are your intentions with my daughter?
@@sinlesssoul well there are many ways this could go, if we are doing the daddy long legs scenario i wouldn't be surprised as dragons can polymorph, but i think him dealing with a large male black dragon who wants his daughter would be funny as one thing i saw a while back said
"Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup"
Andrew T the average height half-elf says to a huge confused full grown dragon
@@Chaosmage42 Best quote ever
Time for my annual rewatch of literally the best DND story ever made
What are the odds that I was planning on making a Chaotic Good Black Dragon Character with a homebrew dragon race of my own creation, with a backstory of being raised by humanoids instead of dragons? This was a decision I made two months ago. Then this video came out. Wow.
God must have a plan, lol.
Man, that was amazing. Training a chromatic dragon to be a good dragon isn't easy. It's nice to see you take her as your daughter, but trying to tame her is really hard like all the Chromatic dragons. I'm looking forward to the next video.
Just as cute as the Dad DMing for his daughter. I can’t wait until part 2.
I must admit I loved that teenage sounding tantrum (that is, actually using words, unlike a toddler lol)
Notes from a NG human idiot;
Greetings from Lovely Restenford!
May your pantheon ever favor you
Baron Trevelyan of Restenford
This gas got to be one of the cutest things I have ever heard about a dnd campaign, and can you explain more about a summoner in a different video
This is super cool. I love the conflict of nature and nurture. I bet the DM had a blast coming up with Onixia's personality and RPing against the nurturing, loving father figure. But of course, as history shows, true love conquers all.
maybe not by the end considering its a black dragon of all things and a D&D dragon too, but I'm rooting for the man that he can do it.
Give me more
*grabs screen*
GIVE ME MOOOOOORE!
More will come. I promise :)
GIVE MMEEEEEE MMMOOOOOOOOOORRRRREEEEE;#÷>÷ K2PEKHR
That was a very heartwarming ending can't wait for part 2
Black Dragons are probably the hardest dragons to train/raise due to their naturally evil nature. The only dragon I see coming close to being that difficult to raise would be a Red Dragon nut even they don't kill for sport.
You are correct good sir: redeemed red dragons are all but unheard of, but black dragons are a VERY close second. :)
I think we can all agree we need more wholesome content like this. I know it’s almost a year ago since this was posted. But plz this is the type of content that is the best. It’s dramatic, wholesome and overall great to listen too
Aw, man. I'm currently rolling a bard/dragon disciple who's trying to resurrect an old fossil of a dragon egg, and this hit way too close to home.
I’d be interested to hear the DM’s take on everything, very unique
he played oxynia, right? Kind of odd when you think that everything she said was said by the DM. Humans are weird
You can tell easily by the dragon's behavior what the DM is thinking. "This is completely broken overpowered, and a good black dragon never happens. My player had better work very hard if he wants to make this happen. He'd better earn this, and earn it well.
@@aaronimp4966 You are more correct than you realize ;)
Not being a father, but looking after other people's kids in my church's nursery, I can say I've had moments like that when one of the kids get a little too chaotic.
"This one is noisy, I go kill it now!" 😆
That's some problem solving skills right there!
Dang. This is almost as great as the lich PC story
I do hope that Onyxia will become a legend on this channel, right along with Abrum and a certain legendary necromancer :P
Indeed. Hail to The Grey Necromancer. Hail to Astoshan, founder of the city of Undeath.
This story shows promise. That is true.
Yee
I love this it show that even evil creatures can become good this brings memories of my current campaign
This and other stories are perfect for creating new magic items. Astoshan's ring is the first that comes to mind.
I’m actually planning on using onyxia as an npc in my new game
@@maximumdm9612
Nice.
2:05 “I soon began setting my sights on capturing a new type of animal: *A Rock* “
To be fair, selling a rock is almost always a profit.
never really got into dnd rp (dad was gm and he was a control freak with god complex, kept removing things that made it fun for me) but this is my favorite story, its nice that not everything has to be "a dragon! kill it!" all the time
I like this story so far the Dm who guided you has a great sense on what it’s like trying to teach a little girl anything mine is so strong headed I’m just glad she doesn’t have wings and the ability to breath acid hahaha
Giant kudos to the DM that played that Dragon... and the Player for getting him/her into that! :D
I absolutely loved this story. I love how the GM didn't just brush off the infantile dragons nature. I can't wait for the next episode!!
This would make for an excellent plot theme: the argument of nature vs nurture.
This story is just as good as the tale of Astoshan the Gray, but, you know, with less dead things
Well hopefully less dead...when a dragon is involved u can only be assured of future with a chaotic outcome. Never a dull moment.
His character: I have a Dragon Daughter
My Dnd Character: ..I have an abacus.. I plan to use it to look smart
Was an awesome story, looking forward to part two.
"Half elf kills a mother then forces baby into household, threatening to make it into a belt"
‘She is my precious little girl.’
Me: lies on the floor dying of cuteness
I've been playing D&D for years. And the one thing I always wanted was to have my own dragon. This here is a really good idea How I can accomplish that in. A game that I hope to be joining soon.
be carfull and good luck most dragons are unfriendly to the raising prosses at least in D&D. If the chanal dedicated to D&D monster lore is anything to go on. Man Dragon culture is fascinating and Comatic ones especially the blue are curious to say the least.
@@dranoradragonqueen1494 I recall blue dragons have water controlling abilities though unsure if in 5th ed that carried over.
@@MarkEdwardRom I thought it was lightning only. I was talking about their social structure specifically.
Any one in the Wichita ks Area open game
There's a heartwarming kids movie in here somewhere
just get rid of the acid and the killing and your good.
There is a tv series! Dexter.
i must point out that the DM of this story deserves a prize for how perfectly he developed the situation and the mind of the dragon, as well as the player.
18:47 That sounds like such a potat answer.
"Explain ur savageness"
"am dragon"
My heart! This sort of story has been a fantasy of mine since I was little! I need to hear the rest of this story!
mine too. just you know purple. Oh my gosh I just relised how much harder a purple D&D dragon might be, oh my.
We need more fantasy slice of life stories like these.
Ahh, my heart. My heart! She's so freaking precious!
This makes me want to go out and tame a dragon now.
When she said thank you my eyes misted over and I grabbed my heart
"That dragons where surprisingly very intelligent."
Ouch. I thought dragons were the ones who were the masters of burning. Surprisingly I was wrong.
"Onyxia"
*quietly remembers Deathwing's daughter*
"Oh boi"
While I’m a nurture rather than nature sorta DM I can see why this DM does the opposite, it’s funny.
I’m a mixture of both. I think I’d have made the black dragon more aggressive and territorial, but not at all “evil”. And with care, love and food theyd be more patient and relaxed. Like a tiger or lion. They might imprint on someone, but not all humans are safe then.
Adorable. I appreciate that this channel selects stories that are positive, instead of horror stories that are mostly intended to shame people.
The owl-bear grieving over their dead mate made me think of the "ewok death" scene in Star wars VI (RotJ). Anyone else?
I need more. My empty soul requires it.
Am I the only one here that think Onyxia acted like any other human child would? Anyway this is a really good story so far and I hope part 2 will be as well.
Been a year since I listened to this story, I’m happy to have heard it again. Great story 👌
>.> I mean, it's cute so far.
but is still Black Dragon, so not seeing how this wont end poorly, but I am absolutely interested for what happens in prt 2
I know right.
This is almost as fascinating as the grey necro story!
Absolutely loved this! Can't wait for the next part! Then again dragons are my favorite mythical creature, so I maaaaaaaay be a little biased here.
"set my sights on capturing a new type of creature: a ROCK"
Ah yes, the Pet Rock
It not just any old rock, its a boulder
The Boulder is conflicted
One of my players is currently trying to tame a rust monster and this really inspired me to try and roleplay that habit more next session.
So cute, can't wait for the next one.
2years and it's still my favorite story
Pls give us part 2
She is soooo cute
I keep coming back to this damn story it's just to good... of all the videos on DnD this and "the grey necromancer" are the best imo.. I'v listened to both several times.
This was very heart warming, cant wait for part 2.
What's funny about this to me is that in the game I'm currently playing, our sorcerer(draconic) is raising a baby blue dragon(Irvanth) . And my character a dragonborn cleric is like his aunt, trying to raise him good and maybe a follower of Bahamut.
ONE DAY
ONE DAY......
I too will tame a dragon
As a father, this story touched a special place.
As a gamer, I would have had to build another character as my character would have decided to retire from adventuring as soon as the Onyxia asked what being a daughter ment.
I want to hear all of the story now, it’s really good thank you
Oh this whole story was so damn cute. It is prime book material, would love to hear/read more! I am definitely saving this to rewarch again after a while :)
We need more dnd stuff like this
"I had Fun! You made No Fun! I dont like Noise! Why you do this? I hate you!"
Perfect response:
"Why am I showing you this? Why I command you to listen?... Becuse Its your fault. You made owlbear so sad that its in pain. Killing is not fun. If you feel strong, don't. You are weak. Only weak Kill. Strong forgive, or force others to comply without any physical force. You made it sad. Now listen. To. Results. Of YOUR Actions!" And then wait
Can’t wait for part 2.
I wish people would honestly tell the truth of their successful rolls or dim down the "here's a suspenseful moment hinging on a dice roll and then Nat 20!!! Woah, who could have predicted this?!" Seriously. Really pulls me out of it.
Aside from that, great story.
This is a very cool story so far, I only know one other D&D session that has a PC rising a dragon and that is the unexpectables one.
Ah yes, Task and his son Tarrusque.
At least Task has Zotira to help out... and he had a bit of a head start in getting Tarusk's trust.
That little "thank you" at the end made my nose burn and my eyes water up. Even though the process is taking him a very long time with his little black dragon, they're getting there
Dragon. Raise it. Hard Work.
Excellent and story and a creative one as well. I will definitely consider this for my game.
