Fun fact about Synchronoise! It is learned by Umbreon, but due to it being a psychic move and only working if the opponent shares a type with the user it means Umbreon as a pure dark type can only use it on other dark types. This means the move does nothing as dark is immune to psychic. It is unusable.
Not useless, just a pain to make functional, if you have another pokemon use Miracle Eye, Synchronoise all of a sudden, actually does damage to Dark types

On the smelling salts fact, Makuhita and Hariyama both learn STAB force palm which has a 30% chance to paralyze. If this move were fighting type and didn't cure paralysis then I could see it being like a fighting type version of venoshock. But why Game Freak wouldn't do that when they went out of their way to buff it 10bp a generation after venoshock I have no clue.
16:40 Captivate was actually used for a short period of time in Gen 5 OU on Sableye, where people would purposefully use Female Sableye to captivate Thundurus and Tornadus
Using Submission with Pikachu is how I beat Giovanni in Pokemon Yellow for the first time. Was a real roadblock considering I didn’t really understand team building at that point
I was that kid who seen all of those forgotten moves from Gen 1. It became nostalgic to see Waterfall Seaking again. I was one of those kids who leveled all the Gen 1 pokemon to 65 and Seaking was one of them who earns this move waterfall as it's signature move for Red Blue and Yellow version. Another move that is rare since Gen 1 is Crabhammer which can only be learned by Kingler and Krabby if you decide not to evolve it. I think this is Game Freaks way of rewarding players who raised underrated or unpopular pokemon that can learn a move that is very unique and rare to see. I did that again in Firey Red and Leaf Green and the final time with HeartGold and SoulSilver because I use to like seeing every unique move in the game. I was also the kid who managed to get Regiggas the old fashioned way. I used Emerald to catch the three regis, then ported them to Platinum and used the Endeavor Rattata to catch Regiggas. It was one of my personal favorite memories and a flex with my friends. I don't have the games anymore but I would do it all over again if I did. It's tedious, but it gave me something to do in the game.
The one move I found out about in a fanmade game was 'Snatch'. I was doing a Fairy monotype run on Pokemon Reborn and HAD to find a way to steal the opponent's Aurora Veil for myself. I've never heard anything about that move ever again
Snatch has a niche use on gimmick sets in Gen 3 OU to allow something like Houndoom to pressure Blissey and steal its softboiled. Honestly a great tech
I remember Inferno because I use it in Balanced Hackmons in Showdown. Actually, most of the useful but exclusive moves here, I know because of Balanced. I use Inferno on Dialga-O with Zap Cannon, Salt Cure, and Strength Sap with No Guard. Of course, Covert Cloak to make it Imposter-proof.
I think "useless" and redundant flavor moves are important, even if exceedingly rare. Plus with the ever expanding pokemon and move pool you never know when an old move will have it's day. I wish Gamefreak/TPC whatever would stop removing shit and bring it all back.
Conversion had his time to shine as a Z move so not only did it change type, it was also an omni boost so combined with adaptability's STAB it was like a better Tera from his time
On Showdown, I play Hackmons almost exclusively, so it's crazy that I was able to guess every one of these moves. In Hackmons, you have to think on your feet and know how best to make the most of every move.
Powder wasn't the only move that existed in gen 8's code that had no Pokémon to use it. There was also Dark Void where Darkrai wasn't usable in Galar. Similar story for Geomancy/Oblivion Wing/ and Zygarde's signature moves in gen 9 despite being completely absent.
No god damn way. I’ve been playing Pokémon not only my entire life ever since the original Red, but especially generation 5 which is probably the gen I spent the most time in after what must be a tie between gen 4 and 6. Never in my life have I ever heard of Reflect Type and I had the gos damn guide book and swear at several points browses the moves section at the back. I was doing so well knowing every move in the video up until that point 😂😭😂
8:23 Remember being evil AF, making a Gengar with dream eater, hypnosis, nightmare, and shadow ball, then had a Gardevoir setup the same just with psychic from XD gale. I had quite a few link cables ripped out back in the day 😂
33:08 Fire Lash is definitely not the only time a pokemon has gotten a signature move in a later generation. Mewtwo got Psystrike in Gen 5; Spinarak and Ariados got Toxic Thread in Gen 7 (which you also mention earlier in the video); Slowking got Chilly Reception in Gen 9; Girafarig, Dunsparce, Qwilfish, and Wyrdeer all got moves corresponding to their new evolutions; Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf got Mystical Power; Cresselia got Lunar Blessing; Phione and Manaphy got Take Heart; and Zygarde got Thousand Arrows, Thousand Waves, AND Core Enforcer
I'm someone who catched the roaming beasts with an Ariados. Not just that, my Entei was a shiny 😁 I always played (and still do) using Pokémon I like, not caring about anything else 😂 not always easy but tons of fun
I'm officially trying to figure out strats with ion deluge now. Pair it with a lightning rod/motor drive / volt absorb pokemon to eat someones attack? Electrivire and zebstrika both even have one of those abilities and that move; so you can absolutely make it work. You can even electrify status moves so I think you could use this to like; eat a roar or a swagger or a normal status move that people might use in a double battle. I'm sure one exists. Electrify a boomburst or an explosion or something; and be protected from it - like using earthquake with a flying type ally. I would argue this is like 3 times as useful as flower guard. 3 times almost nothing is still almost nothing; but I could have seen past me making a team around it to troll my friends.
You could totally let Toxtricity use electric Boomburst with an electric immune mon; probably not worth the effort with ground types everywhere but could be fun!
Gamefreak's top tier game design: Step 1: Make a non STAB, 70 base power attack for Hariyama with an extra effect for a status that it is barely capable of inflicting. Step 2: ??? Step 3: Profit.
I watched wrestling in the late 90's (We all did back then) and I always thought submission was an OHKO move. Also Horsea can get octozooka as an egg move, at least in HG/SS.
About Skull Bash. You forgot its flying-type cibling Sky Attack. Sky Attack might not be a forgotten move as you'll most likely see it in action in the Champion fight in Gen 1 but that thing is so garbage. Essentially Skull Bash with a typing.
For Fire lash, it’s also the pseudo signature move for Salazzle. They even get it as soon as they evolve from Salandit. But Salazzle has a very obvious preference for Special Attack builds since its special attack is nearly double its attack stat. So it can’t even use the attack optimally despite it being their pseudo signature move.
I remember Grudge because it was an absolute pain in the ass in Mystery Dungeon. Imagine a floor full of ghost Pokémon coming at you through the walls, and if you knock one out, you can't use one of your moves anymore. And you only have 8 attack moves max between you and your partner for most of the game (though of course you likely won't use all slots for attack moves as well).
Wrap, fire spin, whirlpool etc do actually get some Niche competitive use throughout the gens, mainly if you need to keep someone from swapping out for one reason or another, usually to build up something like toxic damage or to set up on them
What's funny is that it's a lot of these moves specifically that I've come to actually know in some cases more as time has gone on and have actually come to either love or despise. And that's because of one particular Spin Off game. But not even a mainline one, as in not even on any official video game console. What could possibly teach me so many of these moves like Synchronoise of all things. Pokémon Go. I kid you not, a _LOT_ of these most forgettable and forgotten and abandoned moves _actually_ have *gained* notoriety and actually because they are STILL insanely rare, almost all of them being Limited Time Event Exclusive. But it's not even for a mainline series game or one for a Nintendo device. It's for a Mobile game on a smart phone that while still being fairly popular has long since surpassed it's peak popularity and will actually eventually one day have it's service and servers shut down and discontinued just like with Pokémon Bank. Only this is an entire game, even now with its own Competitive Tournament Play format in official video game tournaments. And eventually when that day arrives, everything gained from it will be lost forever. Including the first and only time these moves just as incredibly rare and unseen as always, were finally useful and in some cases *_Absolutely BUSTED!_* All because they tend to actually share another unofficial category of moves not even being event exclusive to certain Pokémon species caught or evolved during these events. It's that the battle system itself is simply tapping the screen repeatedly in different ways and these moves all tend to be either both really fast to charge up power to use and often the ONLY moves of their corresponding Type to do so, or have a very useful secondary stat change effect like sharply boosting your own offense or even guaranteed to lower your opponents Defenses by multiple stages. Synchronoise is one of them. Being an event exclusive move to Gardevoir and Gallade. And they are absolutely a pain to go up against but a huge boone if you are able to use them properly. Just as long as you were there for these events AND the Pokémon that knows them actually has remotely useable stats. Being literally anything other then 0/3 stars in Attack, Defense, and Speed. But it's thanks solely to Pokémon Go that anyone, myself included, knows these otherwise lost forever moves.
The only instance i'd seen of ion deluxe was a guy who ran it with a volt absorb lanturn and a alolan golem with sturdy instead of galvanize, and a normal gem boosted explosion
The fact that there were only 2 rock type attacks in gen 1, proves how solid "ROCK SLIDE" is [pun intended] from it's inception until today. The premier rock attack with a flinch chance. It was always a great move learned by lots of my favorite mons. Earthquake is still the best ground move as well. Gen 1 has the best everything to me.
Playing through Black at the moment and my Munna was going to learn Synchronoise. I had completely forgotten about it but was totally baffled when I read the description. In what world would anyone need a move like that lmao
Well, Ion Deluge might be a way of healing a Pokemon with Volt Absorb, specifically the Lanturn line since they're the only line that gets both Volt Absorb and Ion Deluge, if it's low on health it could potentially use it to heal. Conversely, if you have a ground-type out with the Pokemon that has Ion Deluge, you could use it to protect said ground-type. Idk those are the first two things that pop into my mind when I think about it. Honestly the move sounds more like something a troll might use than anything.
53:27 there's actually a video from a guy who used an Exeggutor with Bestow and a PP-recovery berry, along with Harvest and Recycle, to prevent a legendary he was shiny hunting from knocking themselves out by Struggle recoil
Stupid Ion Deluge doubles strat (if the move still existed): Volt Absorb Lanturn uses Ion Deluge, teammate Regieleki uses Explosion (which it pretty much always carries due to a shallow movepool). Explosion gets a STAB boost and Lanturn is not only protected from the Explosion but almost definitely gets HP fully restored.
Feeling like an absolute nerd because I've used so many of the moves that you say are forgotten just out of like sheer curiosity when I was a kid like clamp is a terrible move but like I really wanted to make Cloister work. Asset armor was the feature move of Vaporeon back in the day in the anime Like it would just show up and do asset armor for no reason.
There's a lot of moves that I know about. Acid Armor being unable to be used is crazy because it was like a Signature of Vaporeon, Also I remember the Animation for Submission, and how a Nidoking and Nidoqueen used it together in the Anime, spinning together to make Team Rocket blast off. Because its name is Hell Wheel or something like that. Spiderweb! Loved that move, was very cool.... too bad it's pretty useless and I got rid of it immediately on my Ariados back in the day because as a kid if it didn't do damage a move was worthless to me, lol.

Yes, that was me back in 2007. I grinded for the Regis and played tf outta Emerald and Pearl. I'm kinda proud looking back at it
Using Submission with Pikachu is how I beat Giovanni in Pokemon Yellow for the first time. Was a real roadblock considering I didn’t really understand team building at that point
Honestly Synchonoise might only work with Kecleon since color change allows it to change type so maybe it can work but that's still very situational
Mist is such a forgotten move it didn't even make the list.
Also hold hands lmfao
Honestly a great tech
inferno seems really similar to dynamic punch. and if dynamic punch can get a no guard user in machamp, I hope inferno can get one too.
I didn't know Skull Bash was a forgotten move. I guess not many picked Squirtle as their starter.
I've definitely seen triple kick more than Ive seen mega kick, given that this is the first Ive heard of mega kick
Awesome video. I didn't know about a large amount of these. Shame such cool moves were often removed.
I think "useless" and redundant flavor moves are important, even if exceedingly rare. Plus with the ever expanding pokemon and move pool you never know when an old move will have it's day. I wish Gamefreak/TPC whatever would stop removing shit and bring it all back.
Most of these moves I was unaware about were from gen 5 onwards lol.
Conversion had his time to shine as a Z move so not only did it change type, it was also an omni boost so combined with adaptability's STAB it was like a better Tera from his time
I for sure thought Clamp had 100 % or at least 90 % accuracy
33:13
Groudon Kyogre and Rayquaza all received signature moves in gen 6 while being gen 3 pokemon, so therefore, there's more than one instance
also toxic thread, which he literally talked about 😭
Technically speaking Zygarde as well, since it could not legitimately get Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves until Gen 7.
I use to use Razor Wind in Yellow when I was 6, the name sounds cool and in Gen I you can't really see what the move does
Darkri: Hypnosis -> Nightmare -> Dream Eater or Shadow Ball -> *Repeat until awake* ----|

On Showdown, I play Hackmons almost exclusively, so it's crazy that I was able to guess every one of these moves. In Hackmons, you have to think on your feet and know how best to make the most of every move.
Wonder guard + AV Cosmoem setup peak
Excuse you, I ran ghost teams almost exclusively and nightmare was always used. Was really good till sleep status got nerfed.
Game Freak can do the funniest thing, by creating a Ground and Flying-type moves for Legends ZA, meaning G6 will get betrayed by a Kalos game.
52:49 that kid is me! I did it! I still have my Regigas on my original copy of platinum on my original dsi
I must question Acid Armor. Camouflage exists, you know?
8:23 Remember being evil AF, making a Gengar with dream eater, hypnosis, nightmare, and shadow ball, then had a Gardevoir setup the same just with psychic from XD gale. I had quite a few link cables ripped out back in the day 😂
'enjoy falling asleep' my man knows he reads his audience bedtime stories and I appreciate that
Isn't "Light that Burns the Sky" the longest name?
Did you forget Constrict or not include it for a specific reason?
I thought I had you with Kinesis, but you caught it! You present this information well.
I actually forgot about Telekenesis
Conversion is useful when you consider that porygon z gets adaptability.
38:45 I think of Shadow Punch.
i was playing x today and hariyama used smelling salts and i was so confused lol
One last Pokemon video before I go to bed.
Just a quick little video
The first time I ever saw Clamp used was in a playthrough of 3DS Yellow, and was used by LORELEI
I only know of a super obscure move in gen 4. And that is embargo.
I got really back into pokemon in gen 6, and I remember getting those event Pokemon with Hold Hands, Hold Back, etc. I still have them to this day :)
I'd give egg bomb to every baby pokemon. Almost like they are throwing their own egg at the opponent lol
I'm someone who catched the roaming beasts with an Ariados. Not just that, my Entei was a shiny 😁 I always played (and still do) using Pokémon I like, not caring about anything else 😂 not always easy but tons of fun
If only you could trade a pokemon early to midgame for a spheal. Like a swellow or something. Maybe a Tropius.
Hold hands, celebrate, & happy hour are the most forgotten
Z Celebrate and happy hour were at least used on gimmick sets in gen 7. That's more than a lot of other moves can say lol
I love the music you use in your videos.
Gamefreak's top tier game design:
Step 1: Make a non STAB, 70 base power attack for Hariyama with an extra effect for a status that it is barely capable of inflicting.
Essentially Skull Bash with a typing.
lol nightmare... if its gotta be slept might as well just have dream eater (was this even in gen2 btw? i cant recall lol)
Ice Ball was my fav move, always caught a Spheal for it! It looks freaking sick as an animation at the end
I always remember fire lash due to Centiskorch getting it, and having an actual physical attack stat to use the move too.
39:00 well, I thought of *Spite* , which is like grudge-lite and also very forgettable if not for heavy use by npcs in gen 2
I wonder if nightmare was useable in gen 2... there was a lot of rest going on. Competetively anyway.
It is a niche set choice on stuff like Misdreavus or even Starmie to dunk on Restlax, not terribly common, but it's a thing
You forgot to add “the movie” because it’s definitely a quality series too
Bro knew I was putting this on when I was about to go to sleep. Get out of my head.
trust me i know acid armor exists and i know vaporean can learn it
I have used acid armor competitively on vaporeon, years ago when I played competitively.
Including the first and only time these moves just as incredibly rare and unseen as always, were finally useful and in some cases *_Absolutely BUSTED!_*
All because they tend to actually share another unofficial category of moves not even being event exclusive to certain Pokémon species caught or evolved during these events.
I'm convinced you recorded this video's commentary with the lights off and a flashlight pointing up at your head like STOP BEING SO OMINOUS
how'd you know
@@PokemonWoop"another move that will never be used... EVER" like seriously cmon
Camouflage was so well hidden it wasn't even spoken of here.
Make a video of all the good moves Gamefreak removed in Gen 8 and onward.
