//FAQs??
-How many squares do I need for a baby blanket?
This can vary, it really can be however big or small you like, but i generally do 4x4 or 5x5.
This blog post might be useful: bit.ly/1UIobie
-How many chains shall I do for a *single/double/etc' blanket?
Again, this can vary. I would suggest that you do your chain and lay it down agains the bed you are wanting it for. It should be the same width. You should then ad a few more to make it a little wider.

-How much yarn do I need?
Unfortunately, I will be able to answer individuals questions about how much yarn you would used do to multiple factors affecting it. Such as, your tension, the size of hook and the yarn being used.

I just wanted to say thank you. I came home from a doctor appointment several years ago, feeling encouraged and I went online and watched your video on how to crochet granny squares. You taught me to crochet and helped me donate more blankets for the homeless. Due to multiple sclerosis and arthritis I had not been able to knit like I once did. For some reason crocheting is easier on my hands.
You are very welcome :)
I have arthritic hands and found fingerless gloves at JOANN Fabrics that are a spandex knit and they help me TREMENDOUSLY!!!

Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into them. I have found some relief in using rubber coated (ergonomic or soft touch?) crochet hooks.
@@lindamakowski7387 I use those too... rebuilding my supply of hooks... I inherited all of my grandmothers supplies & have a tennis ball can nearly full of hooks.😅... I found some interchangeable foam cylanders and they are a very strong foam with a softer outer core to make it gentler on the hands but they work well too. I need a pair of pliers to change the hooks out thats how tightly they fit. Rebuilding the supply is my goal... and will donate those I can't use any longer.

My paternal Grandmother taught me knit when I was young and I still have the knitting needles she gave me. Her favorite color was purple and I always put a little purple in everything I crochet and knit, in honor of her. Such good memories.
This is the best tutorial I’ve found for this tip. I wish designers would incorporate this tip into their patterns instead of the standard or typical ch 1, DC into same first stitch, etc. thank you for sharing!!

Great video!! You explained everything perfectly clear. 😊
I’ve been using all three for a while because I didn’t like the gapping or wonky edge and it works especially nice on granny squares. 😁😁😁 I am guessing that many will be thankful that haven’t seen this trick, it takes your projects to a new level. Thanks again for confirming and demonstrating the proper way to make the edges look nice on a project. ❤
This is brilliant ❤. Thank you so much. Your "tips & tricks," as I call them, are so valuable. I enjoy these posts as much as your stitch & pattern tutorials.

You're welcome :)
I'm so sorry you're so good at explaining but i didn't get something, u mean instead of chaining one at first of the row we do that single crochet ?! (I love your work btw, i appreciate it ❤️)
Yes that’s right 👍🏼👍🏼
Many thanks, much appreciated 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You're welcome :)
Can't wait to eliminate the Evil Gap!!🎉 Thank you❤

I love this technique... think I will do a sample to work on making this the rule to always use... LOVE IT!!! Thank you! 😊
You are very welcome :)
@@bellacococrochet I made a pair of slippers yesterday and used your technique. The edges came out PERFECT. Sadly I did not take a picture but will make another pair and share the finished rectangle before assembling.
I am already changing the pattern to include a top portion to go above the ankle using a potion from anothrr pattern... currently they stop at the ankle. Love this one though because you attache leather pieces to the soles and up the seem at the backside - heel of the slipper. So cute!😊❤
Thank you !❤
You're welcome :)
Thank you ❤❤❤
You are very welcome :)
Thanks so much!
You're welcome :)
I wish this was how it was taught from the beginning! Thank you for this video ❤
You're very welcome :)
THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!! I have never liked the look of the hole-y edges!!
You're very welcome :)
Very cool, many thanks this will save me from having a lot of spaces at the ends of my rows.. Take care.. 🐦
You're very welcome :)
Thank you
You're welcome :)
Love this but what do you do at the end and ready to turn?
Gracias x compartir le pido el favor de como se une o costura gracias bendiciones
Thank you so much for this video! It has helped me so much. I do have one question, what happens on the very last row of the crochet project? The “loose loop” that gets fixed when the next row joins the loop together more tightly. What happens when you are all done and the top row of your project has this loose loop due to the turn?
You’re welcome 🥰 You should be able to make this look neater when you sew in your end after finishing.
Love this! Wish I had learned earlier. Can you use these techniques when crocheting in the round for hats to avoid that strange gappy line?
I'm glad you like it! 😊 Yes, you would be able to use this technique - you may still have a slight line but this should minimise it.
I'm currently working on an afghan that is half-double cr, slip st, half dbl, slip st. Throughout. A very pretty pattern, but I'm wondering when I end a row with a slip st. , ch 2. How I would use this technique when my next row begins with a half dbl crochet?
In that case I think I would skip the chain two, and then proceed to work your two double crochets stacked on top of each other (single crochets in the US) as shown in the video, and then continue in pattern. Hope I've understood you correctly and that that makes sense 😊
Got it. Yes, you did. Thank You Julie. Love your videos. I made my first granny square from your video. 😊
I tried to get ahold of the granny square booklet you talked about for crochet society box 38. Unfortunately it has sold out and I don't know how to get ahold of it. Suggestions?
Laura
Would you teach a beginner this method?
I’ve been asked to teach crochet and I am in two minds what to show 🤔
Beautiful!!! Would UK treble go well for a starting stitch as two half trebles in the same first stitch?
Thank you 😊 If your pattern calls for two half trebles in the first stitch, you can make your first half treble a standing stitch as shown in the video. You might also want to check out my alternative method for straight edges here: ua-cam.com/video/YA46KLsg9LM/v-deo.html 😊
@@bellacococrochet Thank you 😊
Was good
Please can you tell me hi
I'm glad you thought so :)
❤
Since you are eliminating the turning chain stitches, does that mean that you should leave the extra "plus" chains added to b the starting chain?
If you’re using this method from the beginning into the foundation chain then yes, you can leave the extra chains for turning 😊
What if directions say chain 1 skip1?
What crochet hook is that?
This is one of the hooks from The Bella Coco Range :)
Why isn’t this taught instead of chains lol
Another brilliant tutorial Sarah-Jayne. Thank you. I hope it’s not a really daft question 🫣 but….. would you just add a stitch onto which ever project your working on to be able to do this?
Thank you so much! 😊 Not a daft question at all - you can use this technique whenever you need to join a new yarn or colour to a project, so you would do this instead of attaching your yarn with a slip stitch and then chaining. The standing stitch would take the place of the chain stitches.
This is so helpful, thank you!
You're so welcome :)
