    FAQ's
    -How many squares do I need for a baby blanket?
    This can vary, it really can be however big or small you like, but i generally do 4x4 or 5x5.
    This blog post might be useful: bit.ly/1UIobie
    -How many chains shall I do for a *single/double/etc' blanket?
    Again, this can vary. I would suggest that you do your chain and lay it down agains the bed you are wanting it for. It should be the same width. You should then ad a few more to make it a little wider.
    This blog post might be useful: bit.ly/1UIobie
    -How much yarn do I need?
    Unfortunately, I will be able to answer individuals questions about how much yarn you would used do to multiple factors affecting it. Such as, your tension, the size of hook and the yarn being used.
    -What camera do you use?
    I use a Canon 750D to film my videos on a tripod.

    I’m practicing this technique again,
    If I were to do this technique for a US triple crochet, how do you do the SC in the first stitch to make it tall enough?
    Thank you in advance.

    I just chain one less than is required and then there is no gap like in the first example. But this tutorial makes it a thicker edge which would probably be better for working stitches into for edging, they wouldn't pull so much (I'm a loose crocheter).

    I watched this several times. Is there anyway you can write this in US terminology? My lines aren't straight and I'd like to incorporate this technique. But I'm use to US terminology and it looks like when you get to the last stitch you single crochet, then half double crochet putting the needle through the post that was just made. But when you start your very first row, you single crochet once in the same stitch. Then you single crocheted again in the post you just created. Am I understanding this correctly?

    I haven’t seen this method before, than you. I prefer the method of skipping the turn chain, extending the final loop and twisting it to then turn it into a dc (us). They have the same result: even edges with no holes, with the added benefit that finding the last stitch of the row is just as easy as the rest of them

    For straight edges, why would you do 2 U.S. Single Crochets instead of 1 Double Crochet? Can this technique be applied to your blankets, scarves, etc. that use U.S. Half Double, Double, and Treble Crochets? I’m working on your Ribbed Blanket.

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  3 роки тому

      You can use this technique for any stitches that are taller than a UK double (US single). With a blanket you can also work a border once you have finished which will keep the edges nice and straight 😊

    This has helped me so much. Wish I knew it 51 years ago when I started to crochet. The only thing that kind of confused me was, I “think” you said US stitch’s then you said the other (British?). Hello Ms. Bella...Question: if the pattern calls for double crochet (US), then would I stitch two doubles once I turn my work -- rather than chaining one? Thank you for your helpful video?

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  2 роки тому

      You're welcome 😊 A US double crochet is equivalent to a UK treble so you should use the technique exactly as shown in the video, by making two UK doubles (US singles).

      @bellacococrochet  3 роки тому

      I'm glad you've found it helpful 😊 Yes, for a half treble I would work two double crochets at the beginning as shown in the video, but for a double treble you will probably want to work three double crochets to bring it to the correct height.

    I'm sorry if you addressed this & I missed it, but is this strictly for dc (US) or can it be used or modified for other stitches such as treble or hdc? When you do sc do you ch1 or do you have some special method for that as well? I like the way this method looks, the edge is more substantial than any other method & I'd like to be able to use it or a variation of it for any stitch that I do if possible.
    Thanks!

    • @bellacococrochet

      You're welcome, I'm glad you've found my tutorial helpful 😊 This method works best with stitches that are taller than single crochets; so for your single crochet rows I would chain and work as normal, and then switch to this method for the taller stitches.

    All these years even having a home in Scotland where I crocheted a good bit, I never knew the difference between UK & US crochet nomenclature.
    Now I understand why, when I crocheted using UK patterns, I could never finish a piece without confusion.
    I only learned stitch names from my American Granny, until I began reading more authoritative crochet literature.
    Honestly 😯 ! Here we are, all UK- American cousins; shouldn’t we have the same names for our wonderful crochet stitches?
    Maybe even NEW STITCH NAMES like a Single🇺🇸 /Double 🇬🇧, could have an animal name like a Sheep 🐑 Stitch, or a Collie stitch for the same number of yarn-overs & stitch heights! Then a Tall Treble crochet could be called a Giraffe 🦒 🤣
    But still, I’m so appreciative now I DO KNOW! Thanks 🙏🏼 so very much.

    I have a problem with my crocheting being too tight. Frustrating

      Tension is usually something that improves with practise - you can try to hold your yarn a little looser, or you can go up a hook size or two which will make your stitches less tight 😊

    Do you adjust the type of foundation chain (end row turning one) based on type of stitch in row? If you were crocheting an even taller stich for example than one you demonstrated? I'm a beginner so maybe that's obvious to non-beginners. Thanks for tip. Saved it to my crochet YT video list.

    The trick is a slight amount of Tunisian crochet. I've been been using this technique to make my bikini tie strings all along! Never thought to use it to make straighter edges LOL . THANK YOU Bella!

    I have recently been experimenting with different techniques to solve that "hole in the end" problem that worked so-so. THIS, however is the answer !! There are certain projects I don't want to have to edge or finish off to create that straight side and now this is the solution. THANK YOU.

    Sarah-jayne, how much do I love you. I am now crocheting my first throw (as we speak). I just love love love your edges. Up until I saw your video, I was crocheting the dreaded rainbow. Oh my goodness, you Sarah-Jayne, can teach an old dog new tricks. Great tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing your craft. Love and kisses Sherie.
