"Parents don't own their children. You are the caretakers of those children. You are instilled with a responsibility to raise responsible members of society and to teach them the minimal things that they will need to carry on a productive life when you're not around." -- Matt Dillahunty

"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods and they are unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones." -- Marcus Aurelius

"In all of human history, the supernatural has never turned out to be the right answer to anything: Natural explanations of phenomena have replaced supernatural ones thousands upon thousands of times, while supernatural explanations have replaced natural ones exactly never." -- Greta Christina

"Millennia ago, they abandoned their belief in the supernatural. Now you are asking me to sabotage that achievement, to send them back into the dark ages of superstition and ignorance and fear? NO!"

"The thing that uniquely defines religion, the thing that sets it apart from every other ideology or hypothesis or social network, is the belief in unverifiable supernatural entities. Of course it has other elements; community, charity, philosophy, inspiration for art, etc. But those things exist in the secular world, too. They're not specific to religion. ... Religion is ultimately dependent on belief in invisible beings, inaudible voices, intangible entities, undetectable forces, and events and judgments that happen after we die.
And it is therefore uniquely armored against criticism, questioning, and self-correction. It is uniquely armored against anything that might stop it from spinning into extreme absurdity, extreme denial of reality ... and extreme, grotesque immorality." -- Greta Christina / AlterNet, November 12, 2009

    *Circular Reasoning*
    circulus in demonstrando
(also known as: paradoxical thinking, circular argument, circular cause and consequence, reasoning in a circle, vicious circle)
Description: A type of reasoning in which the proposition is supported by the premises, which is supported by the proposition, creating a circle in reasoning where no useful information is being shared. This fallacy is often quite humorous.
Logical Form: X is true because of Y. Y is true because X
    Example #1:
Pvt. Joe Bowers: What are these electrolytes? Do you even know?
Secretary of State: They're... what they use to make Brawndo!
Pvt. Joe Bowers: But why do they use them to make Brawndo?
Secretary of Defense: [raises hand after a pause] Because Brawndo’s got electrolytes.
Explanation: This example is from a favorite movie of mine, Idiocracy, where Pvt. Joe Bowers (played by Luke Wilson) is dealing with a bunch of not-very-smart guys from the future. Joe is not getting any useful information about electrolytes, no matter how hard he tries.
    Example #2:
The Bible is the Word of God because God tells us it is... in the Bible.
Explanation: This is a very serious circular argument on which many people base their entire lives. This is like getting an e-mail from a Nigerian prince, offering to give you his billion dollar fortune, but only after you wire him a "good will" offering of $50,000. Of course, you are skeptical until you read the final line in the e-mail that reads "I, prince Nubadola, assure you that this is my message, and it is legitimate. You can trust this e-mail and any others that come from me." Now you know it is legitimate... because it says so in the e-mail.

"Christianity is not a moral system, it is an immoral system because it specifically says that there aren't necessarily consequences that you're going to have to pay because of a loophole. What is the loophole? It has nothing to do with how good you are or how morally you act or anything else. It has to do with whether or not you're willing to be a sycophant to an idea. If you are, then there is now an exception for which you no longer have to suffer a penalty for this. So, the idea that secular morality offers no guarantee that people will ever pay for their crimes and their atrocities is not an argument against secular morality because that is a tenet of Christianity. It is the foundation. Your idea that a Christian God is just is directly contradicted by the idea that the Christian God is merciful perfect Justice. Perfect and any Mercy are in are necessarily directly in contradiction because Mercy is a suspension of Justice." -- Matt Dillahunty

Forget about God, because that is avoiding personal responsibility by blaming an invisible imaginary friend for your problems and not accepting the credit for *your* successes by *your* efforts.
You are where you are because of the choices that *you* have made, not by an invisible imaginary friend.

Logical fallacies, scientific illiteracy, science denial, virtue signaling, and intellectually insulting sophistry demonstrates that a position is not based on reason and evidence, but only on politics.

Earnestly desire the gifts.... Now that's obedience!! Dr. Michael Brown is the more obedient here.
There is all kinds of disobedience (to the Word of God) in cessationist churches!!! Those gifts are only available in charismatic churches!!
Cessationism is not good news. It's all bad news!! The gospel is good news but proclaiming that the certain 'gifts have ceased' is bad news!!

The miraculous sign gifts have ceased because the purpose for them has long passed. No one has the gift of healing like Jesus or the Apostles...otherwise they'd be in hopitals healing people and we know thats not happening...there is no need for prophecy, or tongues (languages) because we already have the Bible, translated in every language, and God is not giving new revelation. Cessationism isn't bad news..its the truth.

“The miraculous sign gifts have ceased because the purpose for them has long passed“. That is not scriptural. Where in scripture does it say that?

@@user-so5dq7zv5j *Acts 2:43* "Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles"
*Acts 5:12* "And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people."
*"2 Corin **12:12**"* "Truly the signs of an apostle were accomplished among you with all perseverance, in signs and wonders and mighty deeds"
The Bible makes it clear that the Apostles were given authority by Jesus to perform miraculous signs and wonders. No one today is operating in miracles like Jesus and the Apostles..No one.

If you think that Christianity without the miraculous gifts is "only bad news," you've missed the point of Christianity.
