The people from surrounding areas in Acts 2 were Jews. Not Gentiles. So, this argument seems extra biblical and unnecessary.

We need to stop being so theoretical and intellectual, applying advanced theories that can’t be read or discerned from scripture, to find ways to substantiate cessationism. Let’s just read the scriptures! The plain reading of it is clear. We ARE to speak in tongues.

Why is it that no church prior to the 19th CE ever held this strange idea of tongues meaning something beyond known human languages? A non-human or unknown language can rightfully be referred to as gibberish, as no one, save for those with the supposed “gift” of interpretation, can discern its meaning. Question is, will 2 supposed interpreters assessing strange “tongues”, at different times and without consulting each other, arrive at the same meaning? Depending on a considerable number of trials that result in success, this exclusive Pentecostal phenomenon may prove its legitimacy. If not, then it would stand condemned as a false teaching through a deliberate misuse and abuse of scripture, whilst its practitioners be held as false prophets (or spiritual pretenders), in strong need of repentance, ultimately spoiling the spiritual integrity of the church itself.

Yet EVERYONE misses the most important part of the first chapter of Genesis. The earth sits between water held back by the firmament. No space, no planets, no aliens. Its right there in Genesis. Plain as day. Wake up! Helio-"sin"-"trick"

It’s so painful listening to this young guy (Hovind). He’s wrong about church history, see Agustin in Genesis. When he can’t answer the day 6 argument he runs to Exodus and reads his view into it. 😅 He’s not trained in hermeneutics, let alone Hebrew. The science guy knows more about Bible interpretation than Hovind. He even buys the pseudoscience of the Ark encounter haha.

If tongues are still in use today I highly doubt they are tongues we hear in the charismatic church. The way they use it in the charismatic church doesn’t line up with scripture at all but they want us to believe them over Gods word.

Justin Peters, you're not right here. I was raised fully and devoutly in the evangelical megachurch (Calvary Church). My whoke life has been devoted to reading Scriptures and understanding my faith. I am now a catechumen that ADORES the teaching of the RCC. Ive read the catechism, St. Thonas Aquinas Summa Theologica, St. Augustine's confessions, some Apostolic church fathers, and attended mass. The utter and serene truth of the Eucharist and its miracles, our Blessed Mother and her miracles, all the great saints, the history and tradition. This has ALL drawn me closer and closer to Jesus Christ and his work on the Christ! I hope you can someday see the incredible truth that subsists in the catholic church

Why would praying to someone deify them? Prayer means to ask. People ask other’s of things all the time.

And where in the bible is that sir because you said that when the bible canon is close the gift of tongues cease. That's your own opinion sir there's no biblical evedince that support what you said sir.

Regarding 1 Cor 14.2, I thought the explanation of the person speaking in tongue as speaking not to men but to God in was plausible, although I think Paul could be using irony (it could be interpreted as "to a god"). What are your thoughts on the mix of singular and plural tongues in 1 Cor 14 (singular tongue being translated as "unknown tongue"by KJV) ?

Hi Justin. I am a Catholic but I am a Christian. Christian is a follower of Christ. I don't pray to Mary or Saints as God. I am following Jesus Christ. I believe in reading the Bible. The first church is Roman Catholic Church. After that, it branched out by Lutheran. Please do not define one being a real Christian based on denomination. Please kindly advise. Thank you so much!

It's deeply disconcerting that 99% of people in this comment section, most of whom are Christian, if I'm not mistaken, have sided with the Darwinist in this debate. The ideas of CD are unbiblical and are straight from S's brain. The Bible clearly states that God created man on the sixth day. Any different interpretation, i.e. man evolving from lower species, is incorrect and suggests that the person with these views has more regard for secular mainstream science than God's word.

I “Like” Dr. Ross. He is very kind and gracious & I am sure he is very genuine as well. He has an uncommon ability to discuss & debate in a way that is also kind, generous, patient and humble. That is hard to do when in a debate or discussion such as this. So, good for him with all that - but I still he is wrong. The way I see this issue …. 1. There is plenty of scientific evidence that appears to support old earth creation. 2. There is also plenty of scientific evidence that supports young earth creation. 3. There are credible & accredited PHD’s on both sides. So that leaves me with just two points to consider …. 4. What does my own mind and my own experiences tell me. 5. And finally & most Importantly…. What does the Bible say about this. After considering all of that, it would seem to me that the young earth view is the correct view.

Paul's basis for his prohibition in 1 Tim 2:12 is grounded in the created order of v13-14. With the Greek word γάρ (for) Paul is giving his reason for what he said in v12. Namely, the order of creation as a signal of leadership (Adam before Eve) as well as the vulnerability of Eve as a woman unprotected against the serpent. Paul is saying the created order itself explains that Women are not to be teaching and having authority in God's church, and an illustration of that is seen in the very deception of Eve, when Adam shirked his responsibility to lead Eve his wife was deceived and fell into transgression.

Judah is also straight up wrong with what he said about the word "man" ἀνδρός in 2:12 having the sole meaning of "husband." f you look up the word ἀνήρ (man) you will see it is used interchangeably in the NT for both "man" and "husband" based on the context. The same is true about "woman" γυνή.

Judah is wrong on 1 Tim 2:12 not being about the gathered assembly.. 1. The context of 1 Tim 2 is clearly gathered worship. He spends the entire chapter giving orders for what should go on in the church - intercession and prayers for kings, how men should pray, how women should dress and behave, how women should learn, and finally what a woman cannot do, teach and exercise authority over a man. The word "Teach" διδάσκειν in the Nt and in the Pauline letters always refers to the positive teaching of the gospel or doctrine. Meaning women cannot function as an elder, the who who teaches and has authority in the church. 2. After establishing the behavior of persons in the church , he goes on in chp 3 to establish qualifications for who can lead the church. The immediate and broader context making 1 Tim 2 about the church gathering is clear.

The age of the earth is immaterial. God said 6 days, twice. First in Genesis 1 and again in Exodus 20:11. God created man on day 6. That's Adam. The bible said Adam lived 930 years not 930 million or billion years. That locks in the age of the earth. If you listen carefully to what's going on in the world you'll realize most people want to rob God of glory. They try to do this in various ways. #1 is perverting salvation. Most people believe in works Salvation. Hugh Ross isn't saved. Nobody reads the bible on their own and becomes an enlightened believer. See also the Ethiopian eunuch. The bible says a good true produces good fruit. Eric isn't saved either. True repentance is repenting of your faith to be saved... not repenting of your sins to be saved. Salvation is a change of faith not of sinful works. Nobody is going to stand before Jesus and declare I prophesied in your name... I cast out demons in your name... I did many wonderful works like REPENTED OF MY SINS... in your name! Jesus did not tell Nicodemus... whosoever repents of their sins AND believeth on him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

The problem with cessationists is that they have to make a lot of assumptions to back up their positions. Where is the scripture that says clearly says that the gifts have ceased? Dr. Brown had plenty that says that they have not. At least he acknowledged that healing’s do occur, by the will of God. I see the argument as a matter of degree, and the two views are not that far apart.

Why is there a debate with the false teacher Michael Brown? He literally slays people in the spirit, fakes the tongues, affirms most any wolf because he is one. Why not obey God and His word and separate from those that out of order, from those that teach false doctrine?

This is a silly debate. The age of the Earth and solar system is known from many sources which all concur. Different radio-active decay testing on meteorites, moon dust and very old Earth rock all show the same date ranges - c. 4.5 billion years. Multiple radio-active decay pairs give the same results. So it is not open to debate as it is a fact. You may as well debate why 2 plus 2 is 4 and not some other number. On the age of the Universe, there is still some debate and active discussion, but the Earth Age is done - move on please.

Should the Christian community really be embracing the ideas espoused by Mr. Ross? Nowhere in the Bible does it say that life existed before Adam and Eve, nor that the earth is more than a few thousands years old. Nor do we see any climate hysteria in the book. I don’t doubt Ross’ salvation, but his views are very worldly and he tries to change what the Bible actually says so that it matches what man says.

Darwin was a biologist. What did he know about electricities, electromagnetism, magnetism, consciousness, mind. Is the cell the nature of reality, of course not. There are forces, electromagnetism, magnetism, consciousness,, and mind. Today consciousness is ‘the hard problem’ for philosophy, what did Darwin know about it, zero. It has been unfortunate that biology, the cellular,, has been extrapolated to be the nature of reality. It has been posited in higher age philosophy that there are fourteen versions of the human in a universal cycle, uniquely human to a human prototype and definitely not evolved from a different species. Dr. Brown when confronted by Jim about how does the gift of healing manifest in the church he reluctantly conceded without actually realizing it that the persons who he claimed to have the gift of healing were no different than a rather normal christian who prays for his brother's healing and has the same effectiveness. Towards the end this conversation became so hard to listen to because essentially Dr Brown didn't give any definition of the miraculous gifts and how they should work in the church but instead continuously avoided defining them and criticizing Jim for being too restrictive to ask for a definition. By this logic it would be too restrictive to give a definition of how an elder should work in a church.

Its true....if all we had were the scriptures we would not be cessationist.....experience make people that

..."that each day has a definite start time and stop time"...Ross Yeah, except when you dig a little deeper on Hugh's website -- because, he is not immediately upfront about this -- you'll realize soon that Ross appeals to overlapping creation days in order for what he is claiming to fit the scientific record. This was also pointed out by, Lee Faulkner, a Young Earth Creationist. This, devil-in-the-detail subterfuge, exposes Ross for the fraud that he is. Especially, when you consider that it does not really at all support, nor is it consitant with, his statement above that I quoted. His semi-surreptitious overlapping days theology is also not consistent with several other claims that Hugh has made. For instance: Ross has stated numerous times, that the Genesis author got the creative events in the exact order that science has informed us has happened and that, this is something like a one in a million chance that the author could get that right -- if this message did not come from god. He stated this like it was a real and comprehensive statistic or fact but I am convinced that he cherry-picked his information carefully, so as to lead himself and others to the precise conclusion he wanted and started off with. What Ross doesn't tell you is that his partially obscured overlapping days theology MUST necessarily be employed to be able to even come close to pulling off that redonkulous "Genesis got it right" argument. And even still, it does NOT even accomplish that -- for reasons that are too lengthy to explain here. Instead, his overlapping days theology only smoothens out maybe some of the rougher edges of his claims, but not much more than that. And to the Young-Earth-Creationists, this is the motherload of really bad biblical interpretation and theology. Your welcome, Young Earth Creationists!😏😏

Michael Brown does not seem to understand the cessationist position that allows for God’s healing miracles. I do not understand how the gift of prophecy can apply today based on scripture but that was not the focus of the debate. How sad that the continuationist view in charismatic churches has resulted in false hope, pressure or proof requirements of the indwelling Holy Spirit by tongue requirements, believing something may be “wrong”with the person seeking healing as a reason for the lack thereof, and man centered declaring things into existence. There is much scriptural support for praying without intermediaries or “anointed” followers of Jesus as he himself intercedes for us. In my humble opinion, the cessationist view is truer to scripture and is not open to the abuses seen in the other view. Regardless of which view you hold, healing is always a result of God’s sovereign will for His glory . Prayer is available to all believers without requirements.

The other issue with billions of years is it removes us from proper understanding of humans being the apple of Gods eye and what the angels were. They were created as ministering spirits for humans. I removed Gods focus of the apple of His eye to being an afterthought! The biblical narrative is God created the whole universe with us in mind not as an afterthought like billions of years evolution teaches.

Well the issue is the lost will open up to Jesus when they better understand Genesis. It’s about biblical authority if they can’t trust its authority they won’t trust any of it. So this is a valuable subject!

Some things brother Jim stated that i differ with. --He stated something about needing the use of gifts to be place and time specific in Scripture. If applied to prayer, then prayer has cessed. --He stated that gifts were only for Apostles yet Paul wrote to the church that he spoke in tongues more than you all, thus saying the church spoke in tongues. --He stated that the Apostles healed all who came to them, that claim is not supported in Scripture. * I believe gifts continue and that brother Jim puts unwarranted demands on the proof.
