Protip: your goblin warriors are medium sized so they can ride deer, which you can capture in the wild. Deer have double the movement speed of humans and (for some reason) horses. Doppelgangers also make ideal mounts because you can absorb a deer to make them a mount and make them move at double speed, then absorb whatever you want to get other traits, then absorb a humanoid. Then you can give your doppelganger a full set of armor and weapons. If you absorb an archer or wizard it can even shoot arrows or use spells while you ride it.

I remember getting a very nice looking base with all sorts of rooms. I had dug out a large floor underground and made a giant prison. It was all going well until some dwarven prisoners revolted and slaughtered my guards stationed there. I had to manually control my wizard and get to safety but the escapees found me and my game ended.
Just realized I've owned this game for like 8 years. I appreciate that you go back to revisit games like this, because it reminds us not only to check it out if we're new, but to check it out if we've forgotten about it. :)

Is it fair to say that this is a mechanically simplified dwarf fortress with more control over what each pawn does but with a few extras thrown in?
That’s pretty accurate, KeeperRL is a great “starter DF”. Once you get KeeperRL down and you want more depth, the DF is the next step
And what's absolut cool. You can control your Keeper or every unit like in adventure mode, build a squad and go exploring and fight on the world map.
I love the scrolling "story bar" at the top.. I was reading it whilst you were playing and had to pause for a minute after reading "a succubus makes love to a goblin priest", I couldn't help myself, I was in hysterics.. this version of the game is so much better than the one I last saw a year ago, I was tempted then but now this is a dead cert buy for me, well done to the Devs.. 🎉❤
Hmm sorta I guess but the intent is very different. Cause your decidedly making an evil lair not a full on society here.
@@SolitaryLarkZ-levels go pretty far down. And you can go up now as well. Much like in DF. This means you can have an extensive dungeon. Which is only limited in size by the map around it. I've seen wizard towers. Trap mazes, dungeons with curated monsters bred to have the best stats, wielding legendary artifacts. It's actually kinda cool when it comes to that aspect.
Graphics now look better than they looked before.
I can't believe I never heard of this game before. I'm an absolute fan of Dungeon Keeper and colony sims such as Rimworld... Instant buy, thanks for the vid!

I made a Human village once using the Bonus Mod all the way back in Alpha 29. It was a fun change from the typical "evil fortress in the mountain" playthroughs.

it has fog of war, thats so awesome to have in that game type
Don't unclaim mined tiles, make leisure zone instead
Also prisoners are available for recruiting only for 150-ish turns
