It's now believed that after 1815, he was totally deaf in one ear, and could hear only low frequency sound in the other. I got that from listening to a Great Courses series on "The Symphonies of Beethoven," by contemporary composer and music historian Robert Greenberg. Interesting factoid: There is the same amount of time, 12 years, between the composition of Beethoven's First and Eighth Symphonies as there is between the Eighth and the Ninth.

He was a master of music theory. He still had some hearing. It doesn't matter if you can't hear music anyway when you understand the fundamentals as if it were basic addition. A blind architect still knows how to construct a building.

Confirm the truth that all are equal children of the almighty one. We will understand each other when all nations join as one. Brothers all in human nature, love alone can make us one." I'm about to turn 77, and I recall his version as if it were yesterday.
Beethoven transcends music he is the greatest artist ever, his works touch every emotion that a life can experience and life would be so much poorer without his music. I love all the greats and their music but Beethoven is the medicine that can cure all my psychological ills.

The most glorious piece of music ever written by Western Humankind. It was nice to see a shot of the tympanist. Beethoven was the first composer to treat the tympani as an actual musical instrument, instead of something to just bang on for rhythmic effects.
