- Опубліковано 20 тра 2024
- The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim performs Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Berlin Philharmonic. It's supported by singers Angela Denoke, Waltraud Meier, Burkhard Fritz and René Pape. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra is a very special ensemble: It is made up of young Israeli and Arab musicians and is campaigning for a peaceful solution to the Middle East conflict. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, which was founded in 1999, gives concerts all over the world. Proceeds from the concert in Berlin went to the Barenboim-Said Academy, which supports musical education programs.
The 9th Symphony in D minor op. 125 is the last finished symphony by the composer Ludwig van Beethoven. The work was premiered in Vienna on May 7, 1824 in the presence of Beethoven, who was already completely deaf and was a complete success. The fourth movement is also known as "Ode to Joy" and is one of the most popular songs in the world. Since 1985, the main theme of the
last movement has been the official European anthem.

On May 7, 1824, Ludwig van Beethoven s 9 th symphony premiered in Vienna which is considered a magnificent work and which is relevant for today s time. Today, the entire musical world is commemorating the 200 th anniversary of the release of this magnificent work
Did not realize that. It means the volume control will be set on "11" for this today.
Beethoven's eternal gift to humanity
I agree.
Indeed!
Absolutely true. The 9th symphony is a gift from god passed down to humanity through Beethoven.
I could not say it better if I tried. Thank you.

Our daughter is 8 and has severe autism. She almost non-verbal yet she seems to understand this piece. It helped her redirect from having a loud screaming behavior. This piece expresses so much about the human condition without words.
Autism is hard to deal with. Might I recommend when they are screechy or clearly overwhelmed, a dark quiet room can help. Because on average autistic people persevere 8 times as much stimulation. So lights and sound are the biggest enemy. Hope this helps.
Oh that great. Would you tell us which specific segment of the 9th that she likes?
I'm one of those whackos who's listened to every recording of the ninth in existence. This one is the best I've ever heard. Awesome!!!

Barenboim has issued a statement saying that he is stepping down due to having been diagnosed with a severe neurological disease. It broke my heart to see a legend make such an announcement. God bless you Daniel.
Straziante, sono italiana ma preferisco la sua interpretazione a quella del maestro Riccardo Muti
God bless you Daniel for the joy you have given us..many blessings Sally 💖

The world is in such turmoil now. Everywhere there is hate and anger. Beethoven promised a better future but only if people would just stop and listen. Here, there is no hate, no injustice, no war, no anger just joy and peace. It's a reminder of what we are in essence when we listen to our hearts. It's a reminder that we still have some way to go but in the meantime, I can sit here and listen to this beautiful majestic music in peace knowing for this moment that future is now.
Danke 🙏
I disagree. This music is full of rage and hurt, and I hear injustice and tragedy everywhere. But there is also hope.
Beethoven 9 is the epitome of music, the embodiment of the human nature; joy, happiness, sadness, suffering, passion, indifference, brotherhood, betrayal and just about anything that makes human life so significant and cherished despite how useless we are in the grand scheme of things... In my opinion, this piece will always be the most genius work any person has ever created - period. Beethoven; the hero who won victory in his battle against destiny and fate - truly transcending above the limits of mortal passion...❤
I cannot agree with you more. Pure genius, and *the* most beautiful piece of music everwritten. This performance moved me to tears. Long live the brilliance of Beethoven.
Hola: ¡Total y absolutamente de acuerdo. Beethoven es el más grande!
Wow! What a great summary. Can’t think of a better way to try and describe this masterpiece. Sometimes words are not enough but you got very close. Bravo!

I always wonder if Beethoven would be amazed that his music is still played and enjoyed by so many people, 195 years after his death.
Interesting thought! He would certainly be amazed 😀
excerpts form "Beethoven's Ninth: Reactions vary over the centuries"
When he conducted the premiere, Beethoven couldn't hear a note of it. Few in the audience knew he was deaf until the music ended, and he continued to wave his arms. He had to be turned toward the audience to see the tumultuous applause.
Beethoven's Ninth was not a runaway best seller when it was first performed in 1824 and even throughout the 19th Century. "Monstrous," thundered a respected critic of Beethoven's day.
"...very much like Yankee Doodle," sniffed a Providence, R.I. newspaper in 1868.
"Unspeakable cheapness," declared Boston's Musical Record in 1899.
Beethoven once told a Prince, "Prince, what you are, you are through chance and birth; what I am, I am through my own labor. There are many princes and there will continue to be thousands more, but there is only one Beethoven."
So I'm of the opinion that were he to be asked on his thoughts of his music being played and celebrated nearly 200 years later, he would say something to the effect of "As it should be!"

Jealous of the humans that get to let a new alien species listen to this. Bliss to all 5 of their ears.
Musician/comedian/etc Bill Bailey mentions this in one of his comedy shows. Everybody remembers these songs. People who survive a plane crash and are stranded in the mountains for months aren't singing trash pop by [Generic Boy Band]. Even stuff as recent as Gloria Gaynor has more lasting power than what you hear coming out these days. But this? This wasn't just some ear-worm cash-grab in its day. This was a genius showing off. Which I'm okay with, really.

Beethoven is mesmerizing, not only to the audience, but to each and every member of the orchestra and chorus. Hats off to Daniel Barenboim who founded this orchestra, integrating Israelis and Arabs, all united by the power of music.
It's such a beautiful moment @ 1:01:50 when the conductor relaxes for a few seconds and looks over the orchestra with such happiness and pride and peace like all of the rehearsals and hard work and years of practice and joy, sweat and tears - everything - everything came together at that one moment, that culmination of the beauty of humanity and it's just such a cool thing to see. 🙏🏼
❤😊
The conductor was definitely tense. The orchestra and choir did a phenomenal job with a complex, emotional piece, culminating in " Freude." Magnificent job.
Embodies the message of the 9th ❤

The most incredible thing about the Ninth Symphony is that, after so many bad TV commercials, so much stupid advertising, so much misuse that has been made of it, every time you listen to it again the miracle occurs of getting excited as if it were the first time. time you listen to it.

He was very deep - transported, and in an altered state by the finish. I have never seen such devotion to a piece in a conductor. As if it was only ever to be performed once and this was that one performance. Exquisite.

I loved this performance of "The Ninth" for a few reasons. First, the music by Beethoven is brilliant. Second, the performances by the musicians and singers was fantastic! We can only suspect how hard it was for Beethoven to compose this masterpiece symphony without hearing any notes. He presented his finished score to friends only to tune the volume of the various instruments.
Fantástico coro e orquestra. De arrepiar!
👍
However, he heard the pitch of all the notes in his mind. Volume is only to make the balance between notes better, but the sound itself is the same, whether it's loud or quiet.
@@silverlinings3946 Just imagine having to orchestrate so many instruments, balancing the French horns and percussions, yet keeping violins expressive throughout the adagio's musical phrasing.... A true masterpiece: a first choral symphony which could not fail ! As an example, consider the same difficulty in painting. Late in his life, Monet lost part of his vision, due to cataract & glaucoma. Yet, he still had to paint to make ends meet. His colours became more agressive and weren't as delicate as those of his youth. Somehow, he did not managed his visual handicap.
Many of my high school teachers fought in World War II. One survived Guadalcanal, another bombing in the 8th Air Force. In the 60’s as their students we had no idea what they had endured. I remember all of them as gifted teachers. I now know that they were heroes as well.
I absolutely love what this orchestra can do for music and for humanity. I hope these young musicians realize what role they can play in bringing peace to such a troubled part of the world. Daniel Barenboim is a visionary genius. I remember seeing him conduct the Berlin Philharmonic and then walk across the street to a different venue and play tango. It was brilliant.
I agree more than ever!
The truth and music shall set us free and bring us all together!

Did you guys realised that the conductor Daniel Barenboim has NO Music note front of him that means He is memerized the whole Symphony , Every single music note is in his heart in his mind 👍 only Genius can do🙇♀️
Keep in mind that the musicians will keep playing almost no matter what the conductor does. It is almost as if you were waving a stick in front of your stereo. It is a common misconception that the conductor is somehow "playing" the orchestra like a piano. The conductor's main job is as a rehearsal coach. By the time you get to the concert his job is mostly done. Many of them put on a good show at concerts and some of them are inspiring the musicians to play their best. Most of them have oversized egos and take as much of the credit as people will give them.
@@Browne7100 Are you a conductor? Or have you worked under many different conductors or attended rehearsals with some of the great conductors as I have? My point is that most people overestimate the importance of the conductor. They usually have the biggest egos and will take all the credit and are not necessarily the most accomplished musicians. Your"wrong answer" response lacks nuance and shows a lack of experience with the orchestral dynamic.
@@Browne7100 One of THE most impressive conductors I ever witnessed was Claudio Abbado. He had real leadership skills and possessed humility, which was unusual in this big ego field. His approach brought out the musicians dedication and love of the music, and they worked together to bring about amazing performances, with everyone on board to bring about the best possible performance. This kind of synergy is rare in the human experience and when tapped into is transmitted to the audience as a rare, uplifting and entrancing experience. There are only a few conductors that can bring this kind of intention to their work, inspiring their team to create magic.
It is impossible even to imagine that such a Grandiose Musical Composition
could have been born in the mind of a completely deaf man...
What a truly Grandiose, amazing and beautiful kind of mind it was... no, not "was".. - it is.
1:01:30
As a professional musician , I can tell you , it's NOT that impossible to imagine. And even more - when you become deaf , your inner hearing becomes sharper by far, cz nothing disturbs you from the outside. You can write, sitting at the table, going somewhere in chariot and even sleeping - you just need to listen to your inner voice. And some composers who didn't have such a problem, still didn't need the instrument to compose the music - for example Mahler used to write , when he walked in the mountains.

What a fantastic orchestra, the enthusiasm, dedication and virtuosity is a tribute to how people from such different backgrounds can overcome everything just for the love of music.❤
One of the greatest musical works ever composed. Never ceases to amaze, the scope and imagination of Beethoven, who had long since lost his hearing. What a remarkable human being he must have been. Growing up with a bullying, drunken father and looking like a neglected boy at school, piano prodigy, early compositions, already head of the family aged 18, the deaths in infancy of four of his siblings, being a young court musician, the mood swings, the denial of love in order to dedicate himself to his music, the battle for custody of his nephew, the political upheavals, the deafness. A genius who is my co-favourite composer with Mozart. This Symphony no 9 once discovered early in life becomes a lifelong friend. I also love the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th symphonies and the piano sonatas, the later ones take us off on a spiritual journey. Would love to hear what everyone's favourite Beethoven works are, in addition to this one of course !
Hi. I really resonate with your answer. As I just found out about Beethoven and his inspiring, magnificent and beautiful legacy, I really love to hear sonatas and symphonies I didn´t hear before. Besides an extraordinary performance, the whole idea of this West-Eastern Divan Orchestra is an example of Mr. Barenboim greatness. Quite an admirable human being.
Daniel Barenboim is brilliant😍😍😍😍
Very brilliant and very blessed with music and beauty
Barenboin has the most exquisite and sensitive interpretations of Beethoven's music!
I can't ever get enough of Beethoven, especially symphony No 9 and 5. They have a transcendent effect on my soul.
Couldn't agree more
Thank you for your comment and stay connected. Because soon we will publish a video with Beethoven's 5th Symphony!
Idk but his 6th is my favourite, but the 9th is touted the best of his symphonies!
And the 7th Symphony too 💗
This took me right back to my childhood where I jumped and bounced on our living room sofa ,in ecstasy, to this music. Bravo.
😀
The rendition was so just perfectly balanced between all sections of the orchestra and singers - memorable
Amazing piece of art. Beethoven composed this marvel when he was completely deaf!
Yes, sadly, he never heard this beautiful masterpiece
Oh my, this never gets old. Blew me away the first time I heard it during my teen years (I think it was Karajan's). I'm 42 now, and the 9th continues to blow me away!
It moves me every time a listen to it. How can a man write an one hour symphony like this being virtually deaf? It is amazing and a testimony of his sheer will and mastery.
¡QUE VIDEO TAN DECEPCIONANTE!!!...una GENIAL obra de L.V. Beethoven (9ª.
Not virtually deaf. Deaf. By all accounts.
"Deaf" to the earthly but very much attuned to heavenly sounds!
Word is he was faking it for the clout
The orchestra is so young and talented
Do you know the story behind this orchestra?
Daniel Barenboim (the conductor) founded it to create friendship between young people of all religions from Israel and the Middle East
EXCELLENT, how Daniel Barenboim performed with this international mixture of musicians and the DIVINE 9th symphony of BEETHOVEN 🤩🤩🤩
We had the pleasure of listening to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Daniel Barenboim for many years. We love Muti, Barenboim was something special.
Yes, Muti could bring out so much of the CSO. I went to two performances of Mozart piano cto #23 and Mahler 5th sym. Stunning, it sounded like two distinctly different orchestras between the pieces!
This was an amazing performance. But prefer the Orchestra's version during the 2012 BBC Proms. For one thing, the choir was almost 3 times as big, lending a lot more power. IMO (But the 1st flute is the same.)
@@spikespa5208 Our CSO was also blessed with Georg Solti for a number of years until his death. He took a second-rate orchestra and the rest is music history. But Barenboim was the consummate teacher.

I have always been a rock fan but this really rocks, one of if not the greatest pieces of music ever written and this is a great performance. I am filled with emotion listening to it, shivers going down my spine, what a feeling!
We're glad you enjoyed it. Make sure to follow us for the latest uploads 😊
The most great composer of the universe: Beethoven.
Me alegra ver tanta gente joven entre todos estos maestros no todo es pesos
Mozart as well! Brilliant!
And Bach
I can watch this over & over, conductors to me are fascinating especially Daniel Barenboim
I'm from Costa Rica and I am still crying of the Beethoven' s feeling and his beautiful music, interpreted for these music profesionals. Thanks to everyone for reviving the magic of the Master. He´s the best and the conducting of Daniel Barenboin, matchless. The singers were very emotional acording with the magic music. Congratulations!
Just as deep and profound for a pura vida sin igual
❤❤ I am obsessed with #9, #9, #9...❤❤
