I think the only reason why I would say they should go for a pair of KZs is they, by far, have the best aftermarket support, at least where I live and the local seller is really nice to people. I guess I better start stopping people from buying their product, I feel sorry for that sales rep tho. They weren't the bad guy here
The guy i dealt with in KZ was the best rep ever. He left. He was a 2pac fan and a music lover and we got along great. The people in the factory didn't do anything wrong either. The system broke somewhere. It's not any 1 persons fault and nobody is "bad". That guy, was super cool. I saw the interview with the guy and girl from KZ. i felt bad. They also didn't put too much glue on drivers. It was a production issue.
So, you never reviewed the KZ as 16 pro. Is it any good or is it a terrible iem? You spent the entire video comparing multiple brands with semi cheaper price tags.
This is a very good review and analysis. Are these more suitable for classical music listening ( large orchestral sound, chamber music)? are they good for jazz?
Lots of glowing reviews for this one with many saying it's not another wash, rinse, repeat of the V shape signature but rather a well rounded iem for critical listening. I'm eager to try it out and see which camp I fall in.

Im choosing between Kz AST and AS16 pro. i already have the first Kz As16. Any insights?
KZ should include the ohms adapter required to run this iems properly. They should work on regaining the buyer's trust if they wanna survive.

@@shadeymcbones6707 defects are possible but I don't know how defective the new ones are. Also, it appears that Delta Fyre (probably got that last name borked) was scraping the barrel to start the KZ controversy. He did discover a couple of legitimate defects like glue in a sound pipe, but his understanding or lack thereof within driver connection was pointed out by a couple of people, and that many IEM companies do the exact same thing with BA's and EST's (not all the time): use them as timbre drivers, not FR drivers.
I just bougth olina two months ago, and it is awesome from the get go. So organic and engaging.
I tried the Bus mod but it was not to my liking. I can't compromise on the treble region in exchange for boosting the bass.

I had the OG AS16 and it was one of the better pairs by KZ. The ASX i got after that was a disaster. Recently switched from the 12 BA KZ flagship AST to a single driver planar viz the timeless and I'm never going back to a KZ again. However, their IEMs are really good for the price but it is a game of Russian roulette figuring which is the better model from their sea of IEMs.
Yeah, KZ has some good stuff and the times have caught up to them clearly. The $50 and below bracket is filling up with killer sets

Eh, one one hand KZ holds a special place in my heart because the ZSN Pro X were the first IEM's i bought, and they sounded good for the cost at the time. And i dont regret buying my KZ CRN's either. But i kinda lost all faith in the brand when people discovered that most of their iems basically function as a single DD iem and that all the extra drivers aren't hooked up properly and contribute nothing to the sound.
Worst of all, they didnt even want to admit that this was a widespread issue.
Don't feel bad. I ditched KZ in 2019 after the ZSX which I actually did like at the time. I remember being excited about new models being released. The problem is they flood the market and don't move forward so I decided to never consider anything they have their name on. Now I've purchased fewer iems over the last three years but everything I own is worth keeping. In 2021 I purchased MELE. So far in 2022 I purchased Olina and Moondrop KATO. Waiting on the HBB planar model since I trust his tuning and I'm OUT for the rest of the year!
@@Assimilator702 Aahh, yeah i buy less iems in general. I first bought a KZ Zsn pro x, and upgraded to the Aria after that. Also bought the KZ CRN's afterwards cuz ibwas curious and after that i just straight up upgraded to the 7hz timeless. Next iem i'll prolly get next is the Theaudio Monarch II

I have purchased all you colabs and I did get this set as well. I found the tuning much better than what you are hearing and that is without an impedance filter. I am playing through a BTR5 and a Schiit Stack and the only major complaint I have is that BAs tend to be so fast that it clips instruments that should have a sustained resonance. This I noted in cymbal strikes and guitars with wah effects that are definitely not wah'ng. I am not a fan of KZ by any means, I just wanted to try an all BA set. Now I can say been there. . .heard that! :)

@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews I just received my Kai’s!! They are absolutely beautiful IEMs. The cable is not bad and I am keeping them on as the gold trimmings is a nice touch. The treble extension is perfect not rolled off and not too bright! Bass and sub bass is awesome and is very close to the Olina. The resolution is slightly under the the Olina but at half the price is a huge recommend!
There are good all-BA sets. Not necessarily suited to all genres, but better than what you'll get from KZ. So don't give up on the technology just yet, but do feel free to be very selective about the next ones you buy.
I have their old AS12 (12 BA /6BA per channel). Is it worth the upgrade to this one or do you have something in mind in the $50 price range?

People who are deeper in the hobby know that bloated driver configs don't make a difference until you start tackling the expensive stuff.
KZ yet again reminding people they are the undisputed king of shoving IEM drivers for flexing purposes.
That's a lot of wasted parts being used on crappy IEMs.
This is a waste of parts
Even once you start getting to the expensive stuff, unless you've got a very capable team of engineers and a tuner who won't accept compromises, there's still a very good chance that your set with 6, 10, 24, however many drivers won't sound good. You've got a few steps that are inviolable: choose good drivers, design a competent crossover network to allow those drivers to perform the way you want to, graph the crap out of every configuration you try, and don't be afraid to scrap it and try again if it doesn't graph right and sound good. Otherwise, you could end up like any number of these Chi-fi companies that HBB and Crinacle shit on because they keep adding drivers instead of fixing their tuning. But, lets not forget that it isn't exclusively a Chi-fi problem either. Campfire Audio, iBravo, Sennheiser, Audio Technica, and many, many other companies have made loads of garbage sets that sell primarily on their name and credibility but fall flat under critical review.
What HBB and Crinacle and all of the other reviewers with their sites, squiglinks, and video reviews are doing is attempting to create a more informed consumer base so that companies can't get away with trading on the ignorance of their customers and their gullibility to sell them garbage. And these reviewers really have my respect for this, because I know I've learned a lot from them over the past couple of years that I've been in this hobby. I knew a decent amount about speakers and audio going into it, but when you get to shoving the speaker output into your ear hole, well, quite a few things change.
KZ reminds me of that one cousin that can't stay focused on the things that are most important. It's as if they'll have a good idea, and somewhere along the way everything gets derailed, and they just throw their hands up and say, 'Welllll, fcuk it! I'm sure they'll like this..'

@@Assimilator702 Well regardless of driver count, they still do make some great (DD) IEMs. No one would've known about the useless working drivers back then because the sound was already good enough for the price at that time, and just knowing about it didn't change the sound Even Crinacle said that his CRN still had the BA timbre despite the BA not being loud enough to be noticeable. Plus, having more great IEMs with the QDC connecter that fits the AZ09 Pro would be nice but that's just my opinion. KZ could need some help.

It's been a while, please recommend an IEM or a couple for pure mid range and vocals that is non offensive under $500.
I really wish KZ would get away from these mega sets of BAs in their iems. Although I get why they do it, I would love to see what they can do with one to three BAs per side. I admit that I have a soft spot for single BA iems and if anyone can do a true audiophile version of such a thing, it's KZ. I firmly believe more drivers doesn't mean better sound.

It shouldn't matter what KZ does. We should all support other brands and leave KZ on the side of the road where they belong. Even if you NEED super cheap iems because you break a pair every week, there are plenty of other brands to support.

This is about a company that offered high performance products at budget prices and allowed many people to enter a hobby they would not be able to participate in. What has KZ shown us? Stagnant product development, unethical business practices and more importantly an unwillingness to learn from their past mistakes. KZ has all the tools to be the next Moondrop or Fiio. But what do they do? Go back to their old ways like an entitled brat that refuses to change for anyone.
I started in this hobby in 2019 when the ZS10 PRO was the budget hybrid wonder boy. I bought all the KZ iems and waited with baited breathe for their new releases. When the design elements of certain models changed like going from a universal custom on the ZSX to the generic shape on the successor the ZAX THATS when I decided to move on since it seemed like the company was moving backwards. There was no radical performance improvement with the 2020 models and I looked elsewhere. Then KZ really started to flood the market and I’m glad KZ is no longer on my radar. Many others have done the same. I just don’t want to see people entering this hobby to be blind sided by the allure of KZ and the illusion of the value that’s received compared to other non budget brands. There ARE other companies we can support. Simple as that.

KZ just doesn't have a place in my collection anymore. The ZS5 for $12 is (for my tastes) good if I need a pair that I don't care what happens to, but that's about it.

I agree. I followed their every move like any newbie budget minded iem freak. Now I will use my countless pairs of KZ or CCA at the gym since they give me minimum acceptable sound out of my crappy phone and that's it. I never touch anything KZ or even Trn related. I look at those companies like a car crash on the highway. A curious distraction while passing by. But you're so relieved you're not involved. Or the hot chick that's disease ridden. Looky looky. But no touchy touchy. Have I made myself clear? OK class don't buy garbage iems. It's just BAD for everyone. This has been a public service anouncement.

I agree that, after their DQ6 QC fiasco, KZ is more sensitive to feedback and more prone to errors resulting from listening too much and getting mixed feedback. The 5k debate was one of the dumbest things ever, and KZ launched IEM after IEM trying to correct this (variations of the CRA). My opinion is that KZ needs to just try to follow the Harman Target, but many would disagree with me.
But I disagree with you in something: I don't think KZ failed to get with the times, I think KZ is pretty strong in the low-budget game and many brands are pretty much dead in this recent onslaught beginning with CRA(their savior), Chu and now 7hz Zero.
But I agree that the clock is ticking and KZ can be destroyed in the next.

We all seemingly went thru the "new iem a week" faze when we first got into the hobby. And for most of us, KZ was the biggest supplier of our new addiction. But now, a lot of their original customers are knowledgeable enthusiast who don't care about the amount of BA's they've managed to squeeze into their new model and want more then another iem with bloated bass and screaming highs. It's time for KZ to grow like the customers before they have no customers.
Kz have been left behind. A couple of years ago some of their under $50 stuff was pretty good because there was no competition. Since around the time of the original blon they have been left behind. Releasing about 20 different sets a year and hoping for the best won’t work anymore. They need to sort out their tuning and to be honest the build. Their iems look cheap. They should look at the competition and move in that direction

KZ is the first IEM I have owned. I was intrigued by the popularity of IEMs and KZ was the least expensive way to start out. Video reviews about KZ, to people just starting out, will influence you to buy/try a KZ IEM because they sound like more expensive IEMs. I am happy that more companies are entering the budget IEM market because this will only benefit us the consumers. I told myself that I would not buy more expensive IEMs but after trying a $70 set from a different company I now know that there are far better sounding IEMs than KZ. I will not buy another KZ not because of the issues that have recently come out (every company wants to cut costs) but because they do not sound better than their price. I will not miss KZ if they go out of business but I believe KZ should stay so we will know what sound profile we want, more choices = better choices.

Like I said in another comment on another video, “putting pressure on the Companies”, be transparent as possible, give buyers what you say you are giving them, listen to buyer feedback and enlist help(tuning etc) from established audiophile influencers who are plugged into the community and are intelligent and “TRUSTWORTHY”. You listening all you Audio Companies?…..changes are coming, buyers are more demanding and becoming wiser thanks to the efforts of Chris, crin and other people within the audiophile world. We have graphs that can immediately interest us or not, reviewers who give their rec or not depending on how the iem plays music and, actually people out there who do tear downs on these iems to verify whether the Companies tech hype is true or not!! At this point, buyers have a wealth of info to help guide their purchases…..I’m excited to see how this current audio trend plays out, how the audio companies will rise to the occasion or sink. All this benefits the buyer, the ones spending the MONEY!!! As far as how the influencers, hypers and reviewers are compensated or paid for their tuning efforts with collabs etc, the TRUSTWORTHY ones( and there are fucking few of them) such as this channel deserve whatever they can get for their efforts. If, in the end, it puts great sounding iems out there for the buyers, ITS ALL GOOD!
Yeah there are so many ways to fail and in 2022 every one of them can be spotted by a graph or a guy opening a set or other. There was room for error before but not anymore. Consumer win
