I'm 74 years old and I still remember watching her sing this song on this show. It feels like it was yesterday. What a wonderful singer and gentle lady. This song made me fall in love with her when I was a teenager and I still love her!
a true 'song stylist' with phrasing like no other and the voice of the very first jazz waltz: "Lets Go Wher the Grass is Greener" which my dearest mother played ENDLESSLY on our 'victrola'.
Back in the day, she was our Mary J blige, if you are around 70, loves jazz and served in the war, you know exactly what I am talking about. Also this was a power proformace of Nancy. Rest in power sister, your music lives.
Respectfully, WHAT? Mary J Blige? I see that you are around 70 lol so I won't hold you but that isn't a good comparison. Anita Baker as far as the style of music, persona, vocal delivery & lastly as far as mainstream success is concerned, is the accurate equivalent to Nancy. Phyllis Hyman and Regina Belle as well, but didn't get the same acclaim.
Correct, I am 70. I am speaking in terms of how we, meaning my fellow war buddies Marines reacted to an artist musical talent at that time of the 70's doing the Vietnam War, and the late 60's. You would have had been there to fully understand it. But your point is well understood. Also success and making money were not that important, only the music and how it energized your soul were the key my brother.
@@renegaderunner332 how old are you? How can you tell a 70 year old person about their day? Your comparison of Anita baker is on her musical style. This person seem to be talking about the impact in their generation. Learn to listen and have some respect!
I remember watching this episode. After Ms. Wilson completed the song, Ed Sullivan was visibly in awe and taken with the song! His reaction was priceless.
Same here. I remember this episode very well. Back then, you had to watch it live because there was no way to record it. I'm 74 but watching this takes me back to being a teenager in love with her, all over again. Wow!
Mrs.NW. did not get the recognition that she really deserved. What an amazing artist. I think when we miss out on giving our best to the artist. Find the family and give it to the family.
Me at ten, having just heard my mother play Nancy Wilson for the first time: “How long have you known about this lady, and you are JUST NOW telling me about her??” I’d heard Nancy singing “And I Love Him” from her LP A TOUCH OF TODAY, and I was hooked. That was in 1976, and I’ve been in love with FANCY NANCY ever since. I miss her. 😢
She was a Master singer! Not much anyone could teach her. Every phrase was accurate. She was so loose. She played with timing like it was a toy. She’d cut a word short then hold one long properly. Her “ INGs”, I never heard anyone do it better.
I agree I agree I agree!! those notes- Nancy - she can hold, lose them, lock 'em down -draw "em all the way out-and then get 'em out!! NO ONE does notes like Nancy Wilson!
One of the most SENSATIONAL female vocalists of ALL TIME!! Total Class! Absolutely an amazing voice! Stunning sexy beauty on top of it! She was 31 at the time of this filming, and lived to be 81 when she passed in 2018. R.I.P.
I saw NANCY IN CONCERT when her album LADY WITH A SONG was released she dedicated this song to Sarah Vaughan who had just passed. A truely MAGICAL singer.. BTW she did a spot on impersonation of her idol JIMMY SCOTT.. RIP NANCY XXX
OMG! What the hell is this? I've been a fan of Nancy Wilson for years, someone who delivers a song that touches your heart and soul, but this song is amazing!!! She sang it, wrapped it up in a beautiful package, put a big bright bow on it and delivered it like no other person can. Thank you Ms. Nancy Wilson for all the beautiful music your have left us with. This song has to be one of my favorites.
My second favorite song from Nancy Wilson (behind "Guess Who I Saw Today". They didn't come any better than this. Ain't nobody today who can SANG like this!
@@terrykobleck6529: I heard the name but was unfamiliar of her version. So I looked it up on UA-cam. She puts me in the frame of Nina Simone. That's not a bad thing by any means and I would definitely pay money to see her in concert. She is damn good.
Nancy Wilson said a song had to have a story within it and a message for her to convey. This one, being especially painful, definitely does but that third verse really caught me as it offers hope to herself as she faces reality and moves on.
Amen! WoW is right! This performance and track brings out ALL her amazing vocal talent and stage presence! Absolutely stunningly beautiful on top of it in every possible way!! She was only 31 at the time of this filming.
@Nue View It is interesting how certain songs can take one back to a certain place and time and for me and for you it brings back good memories. As Black man music is the one thing that it doesn't matter whether you are black or white or brown. If you like the sound of the song that is all that matters. Have a good day.
I have this and many many other songs in a collection of her albums (yes, ALBUMS). I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert and meeting her here in Chicago many years ago. I also sing and have sung many of her songs in public as a member of a performing group. Nancy Wilson is a real DIVA!

Can't compare any vocalist to Nancy Wilson. She's divinely unique & will never be another like Her!
In mannerisms and expression Phyllis Hyman studied her well.
She is incomparable!
I only saw NANCY once in concert but it has remained firmly in my memory as a magical experience
Nancy Wilson is a very elegant , beautiful , melliflous singer .
