The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Her phrasing was effortless and she brought lyrics to life... Definitely one of our greats!
75 years old watching this - fond memories of Nancy Wilson. How beautiful and talented she was.
No One Does It like Nancy Wilson....
No One....
She is in a class of her own!
Let me respectfully say that NO man was going to say "it's over" to Nancy Wilson.
I'm 74 years old and I still remember watching her sing this song on this show. It feels like it was yesterday. What a wonderful singer and gentle lady. This song made me fall in love with her when I was a teenager and I still love her!
Can't compare any vocalist to Nancy Wilson. She's divinely unique & will never be another like Her!
In mannerisms and expression Phyllis Hyman studied her well.
She is incomparable!
I only saw NANCY once in concert but it has remained firmly in my memory as a magical experience
What a gorgeous woman.
She blew this song out the ballpark
Probably the most technically perfect performance by an artist anywhere.
Yes
I agree 👍
The entire arrangement is OUTSTANDING! AND THE LYRICS, U GOTTA BE KIDDING ME ! OUTSTANDING AND MORE, SHE IS ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREATS
Nancy Wilson was my idol in childhood. Now I'm at the end of my 60's and still find her voice pure magic.
Smiles, hello Deb 🌺 😊
Ahhhhhhhh yes, it's Miss Nancy , at her finest. ---------I am so Blessed to have grown up to music like this. ----------MJL, 76 y/o
The GREAT Nancy Wilson! Pop, Jazz, R&B, Cabaret. What an incredible singer/storyteller.
I was a kid when my godmother use to make me learn and sing Ms Wilson’s music I smile and sometimes cry because I never missed a show in NJ when she came What a woman what class the way she dressed. She made me classy MS WILSON UR MISSED BUT U LIVE ON O YEA MY DAUGHTER SAID HER FAVORITE SONG IS GUEST WHO I SAW TODAY SHE WAS A TEENAGER. I SAID HOW. SHE SAID I ONLY KNOW HER MUSIC. 🎶 THAT I WILL NEVER FORGET.
Mrs.NW. did not get the recognition that she really deserved. What an amazing artist. I think when we miss out on giving our best to the artist. Find the family and give it to the family.
Elegant beautiful and soulful singer "The Babe"
Nancy Wilson was such a masterful singer. A song powerful singer.
AMEN...AMEN...AMEN!!!
a true 'song stylist' with phrasing like no other and the voice of the very first jazz waltz: "Lets Go Wher the Grass is Greener" which my dearest mother played ENDLESSLY on our 'victrola'.
Dear God is this FABULOUS!! Such a graceful, classy beautiful, elegant lady!! and what a VOICE!!!! LOVE THIS!
America had complete "class" in these times of life❤
My mother loved Nancy Wilson. She played her records all the time. Made her happy. I miss my mother and Miss Nancy Wilson.
I always thought she was really pretty. I’m 70 and heard her music but my parents were Brook Benton, Ramsey Lewis, Sam Cook, and Jackie Wilson fans. “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher than I’ve ever been lifted before … 🎶
OMG! What the hell is this? I've been a fan of Nancy Wilson for years, someone who delivers a song that touches your heart and soul, but this song is amazing!!! She sang it, wrapped it up in a beautiful package, put a big bright bow on it and delivered it like no other person can. Thank you Ms. Nancy Wilson for all the beautiful music your have left us with. This song has to be one of my favorites.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ one of the best there will ever be she had the perfect look the perfect skin tone the perfect everything rest in peace Nancy Wilson I love you you went back to the angels❤
Nancy Wilson….We miss you!
I've been obsessed with this version / clip for longer than I can remember.. she was absolute class. And gorgeous.
Same!
Me too.
2 and a half minutes of pure, effortless, perfection👑
She was just too much! I love Nancy Wilson!
Nancy Wilson could sing popular contemporary songs and jazz equally well. A tremendous and underrated talent.

Was Nancy Wilson underrated? I wouldn't have thought so....
I agree! I was blessed to hear her music played daily by a family member who was an aspiring singer. Nancy Wilson was her idol!
Oh contraire! Nancy Wilson by all measure was a star!
There’s no debating that.
HOW IN THE HELL CAN YOU CALL HER AN UNDERRATED TALENT?ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Sitting at a corner table with a young Sidney Poitier glancing at his watch waiting for you to finish your sentence. ❤ This song brings this to mind.😊
Back in the day, she was our Mary J blige, if you are around 70, loves jazz and served in the war, you know exactly what I am talking about. Also this was a power proformace of Nancy. Rest in power sister, your music lives.
Respectfully, WHAT? Mary J Blige? I see that you are around 70 lol so I won't hold you but that isn't a good comparison. Anita Baker as far as the style of music, persona, vocal delivery & lastly as far as mainstream success is concerned, is the accurate equivalent to Nancy. Phyllis Hyman and Regina Belle as well, but didn't get the same acclaim.
Correct, I am 70. I am speaking in terms of how we, meaning my fellow war buddies Marines reacted to an artist musical talent at that time of the 70's doing the Vietnam War, and the late 60's. You would have had been there to fully understand it. But your point is well understood. Also success and making money were not that important, only the music and how it energized your soul were the key my brother.
I would say she was more Anita Baker of her day.
@@renegaderunner332 how old are you? How can you tell a 70 year old person about their day? Your comparison of Anita baker is on her musical style. This person seem to be talking about the impact in their generation. Learn to listen and have some respect!
@@billymartin866 thank you for an insight in your generation.
she ate this and left no crumbs
A Legend from the past, but she'll live forever! --- Thanks for sharing many memories
That's my girl, Ms. Fancy Nancy!
She was a Master singer! Not much anyone could teach her. Every phrase was accurate. She was so loose. She played with timing like it was a toy. She’d cut a word short then hold one long properly. Her “ INGs”, I never heard anyone do it better.
I agree I agree I agree!! those notes- Nancy - she can hold, lose them, lock 'em down -draw "em all the way out-and then get 'em out!! NO ONE does notes like Nancy Wilson!
Yes
elite
Yes, in deed
I remember watching this episode. After Ms. Wilson completed the song, Ed Sullivan was visibly in awe and taken with the song! His reaction was priceless.
He only showed the best 👍🏼
Same here. I remember this episode very well. Back then, you had to watch it live because there was no way to record it. I'm 74 but watching this takes me back to being a teenager in love with her, all over again. Wow!
This was music. These were ladies. That was a voice with elegance and charm. I am so glad I was born in those times when art was real. I daily thank God for not being born and growing up in these present times.
Thank you Ella Fitzgerald, thank you Dinah Washington, thank you Doris Day, thank you Betty Carter, thank you Etta Jones, thank you Julie London, thank you Anita O'Day and thank you to the lovely and unique Nancy Wilson for showing us the light of an artform pure and deep.
Those days are gone folks....pack your stuff, the present is just filled with boiled shit pretending to be artists.
When I play this music in my home.....even my dog recognizes the difference between right and wrong when it comes to the music. Isn't that sad?
My mother was one of her biggest fans
Nancy Wilson was feeling real fine I see .. I can tell
Gone lady whatever it takes
This has been one of my favorites since 1968. Very underrated song that's no longer on many playlists, unfortunately.
How have I never heard of her until now? She's fabulous!
One of the most SENSATIONAL female vocalists of ALL TIME!! Total Class! Absolutely an amazing voice! Stunning sexy beauty on top of it! She was 31 at the time of this filming, and lived to be 81 when she passed in 2018. R.I.P.
I saw NANCY IN CONCERT when her album LADY WITH A SONG was released she dedicated this song to Sarah Vaughan who had just passed. A truely MAGICAL singer.. BTW she did a spot on impersonation of her idol JIMMY SCOTT.. RIP NANCY XXX
Wow what a voice on this beautiful woman with such style and grace 😍
My favorite Nancy Wilson 🎵 🎶 2021 who's still listening?
Listening 09/11/2022

REMEMBERING NANCY WILSON
(February 20, 1937 - December 13, 2018)
[02/20/2022]
Yes she was the queen and such a magnificent voice that send you to heaven and back
I love hearing the lady in the audience at the end of the song shouting yeah!
Haha I thought it was Ed sounding like Kermit first 😂 Amazing performance!
My second favorite song from Nancy Wilson (behind "Guess Who I Saw Today". They didn't come any better than this. Ain't nobody today who can SANG like this!
No disrespect, Nancy Wilson is a wonder but have you heard Samara Joy’s version, it’s like her voice is just liquid music.
@@terrykobleck6529: I heard the name but was unfamiliar of her version. So I looked it up on UA-cam. She puts me in the frame of Nina Simone. That's not a bad thing by any means and I would definitely pay money to see her in concert. She is damn good.
@@honeycone71 she just won best new artist at the Grammys. I’m going to see her in Ann Arbor in March, can’t wait.
Suzanne Somers version is pretty good too...
@@77cobaltblue I love Carmen McCrae's version of Guess who I saw today the most
Yes she was our Mary and I’m 70. Love Nancy she was classy❤
Smiles, hi Jeannie 🌺 😊
she is Nancy Wilson. the one and only.
Nancy Wilson was the best!!! Underrated.....Not hardly!
❤❤the GREAT Nancy Wilson , R.I.P.
This song was cold-blooded 😂😂
I can't believe I've never heard her sing before. She's just breathtaking
I was introduced to her as a little girl. My mother loved her she had every album.
@@feleciagmiller872 that's so sweet :)
Wow! It's been at least 2-decades since I've last heard this and Nancy can really pull you into her songs! So great!
Super, super great since the 1960's. Just class, style and greatest.
Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!! Ms. Nancy!!!!!
Girl Power... 60's style!
Nancy Wilson said a song had to have a story within it and a message for her to convey. This one, being especially painful, definitely does but that third verse really caught me as it offers hope to herself as she faces reality and moves on.
AMEN, WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO WHEN HE SAYS IT'S OVER 😪😪
Sweet music. 💖 Thank you Nancy.
Her look and even the tone of her voice and phrasing here reminds me of Shirley Bassey.
MS.FANCY NANCY WILSON❤❤❤
Oh wow! A divine goddess of song! Thanks for sharing.
Pure talent and class and just imagine she has her clothes on!
I remember her on the album cover of a Cannonball Adderley LP, NEVER mind the voice, which was terrific, she was gorgeous
I remember playing this song on the stero. My mother had the 45 . Thanks Mom for those muscial memories. I miss you so much.
@Nue View It is interesting how certain songs can take one back to a certain place and time and for me and for you it brings back good memories.
As Black man music is the one thing that it doesn't matter whether you are black or white or brown. If you like the sound of the song that is all that matters. Have a good day.
Now, let us all revisit her [seminal] 1960 recording of "Guess Who I Say Today"...and give thanks.
Classy Nancy!!!!! R.I.P.
Wow. Such a powerful performance from Ms. Wilson. I didn't expect it.
Amen! WoW is right! This performance and track brings out ALL her amazing vocal talent and stage presence! Absolutely stunningly beautiful on top of it in every possible way!! She was only 31 at the time of this filming.
Nancy the Baby was FANTASTIC! and a Gorgeous Lady
I'm talking about a ole nasty growl sent from heaven!!!!!!!
SENSATIONAL!

She is singing this song for real
Nancy. Killin' it!
Boy do i love this woman and her voice
Ms Nancy Wilson was a clas act 🌺🍃
Class and distinction.....speaks for herself. 👏👏👏👏
She was a real class act.❤
I have this and many many other songs in a collection of her albums (yes, ALBUMS). I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert and meeting her here in Chicago many years ago. I also sing and have sung many of her songs in public as a member of a performing group. Nancy Wilson is a real DIVA!
Nancy Nancy Nancy!!! 💕
This was a LIVE performance. Dynamics and phrasing thru the roof
I was 11yrs old when this was released---and loved her even then
Rest easy Ms Wilson 💔
How music is lacking. The late great NANCY!!!
Oh my God she is everything
I met this great singer in film Sylvie's love recently!
She was a royalty. 😊❤
This was stellar. Thank you for posting it. I've never heard the song and I've never seen a singer so perfect fitted to a song before. Remarkable!
Are there truly really any adequate words to express an utmost appreciation, that can't be stated enough* for this once in a lifetime... {Gifted and Blessed Singer} that graced us???
"I Feel So Thankful!!!"
