- Queen👑Uniek is lame. (She is doing very well at the moment). But occasionally she suffers from her osteoarthritis. Then the vet tells us to walk. It helps her but it also helps me with my own pain!

Yes. And he is ALWAYS pleasant, no ears back like the mares. Even with the little munchkins.
@@suzettetrickey288 He's definitely much happier since arriving at Stal H. Before that, he would pin his ears and was angry/making scary faces almost all the time. Still though, he's calm because there are barriers between him and the horses, he's smart enough to know that these barriers limit his social approach and he might exhibit different behaviours if those barriers will be taken away but that would be normal, he's a male horse afterall.

2:51 Prince Rising Star's withers are becoming more pronounced, while the ratio of his neck-to-wither connection appear smoother. He looks increasingly stunning as he grows; he is highly vigilant, adeptly spotting all potential threats to both his herd and humans. Queen Uniek is indeed a gentle giant, I always love how cool and confident she is. She would have been such a great therapy horse, though in a sense she already is.

Yvonne, what a great picture of Teije Rein and Uniek. Walking first on a lead fabulous. Yes moving is the key I have horrible Arthritis I ignore the pain and move and the pain goes away so I understand. Risey sounds like he's purring when he gets to his outside area. Bauke working on the tack room and helping with the Ponies, sweet man.

I add this in case it helps, last year a team of scientists at Penn State discovered that paroxetine may be the first medicine to treat osteoarthritis. It is found in Paxil, the antidepressant. I was already taking an antidepressant, so I switched to Paxil and it has helped. I don't really like recommending things from Big Pharma, but it might help somebody
@@kathy6803 Sometimes pharmaceuticals help. My husband suffered with heart rhythm problems (SVTs, PACs & PVCs) for 55 years before he tried a beta blocker and the difference is stunning. He is so much more comfortable without all the anxiety of worrying when his heart is going to flip out next. I, on the other hand, can't take the drugs for my RA. Luckily for me, curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) lowers my inflammation to 0.5 (less than 4.75 is considered good) so I'm in remission and pain free. I wish more people could find the things that help them live well.

Poor Risey, he doesn't understand why he can't be with the rest of the herd. Yfke is growing up, soon her baby coat will be gone! And Yvonne, it is a blessing that you find relief from your pain by doing what you love most, riding your beautiful Reintje and Uniek! Good therapy for all of you. ❤
Now, that's a new way to brush a horse with Rein and Teije sitting on Uniek and brushing her. How cute they looked. I see such an adorable picture of that that is a wonderful addition to the family photo album. With Bauke's handiwork, that Tackroom will be one of the best looking. Seems he's becoming more of a horse man trying to guide Spidey to his stall. The Restaurant of the Barn is right outside Risey's stall where the horses can gather for some hay.
Or an appetizer at the Four Leaf Clover Salad Bar on the other side of the barn door.
I'm sending prayers for you, Risey and Uniek. Uniek is absolutely gorgeous with the dapples.
The boys Rein and Teije on the Queen, just so, so, so cute and gorgeous! She knows they are your foals and takes care of them! Bauke's work in your tack-room is fantastic. Rising Star is just so happy with you and the mares close by. Love that Yfke has to "bite" you back when you are being kind and "biting" her nicely with the brush! Sad you still have pain in that hip. It's amazing that only riding cures it! Love and prayers to you all, especially you Yvonne, Rising Star, Queen Uniek, and Glendy.

How right it is that you should be without pain when riding Queen Uniek! You relieve her pain in riding her too. Your sons are so sweet. And Queen Uniek seems to know she has precious cargo on board. Thank you for sharing all you do. My prayers are with you and our Prince Rising Star.
Reintje is so lovely, she does not pay any attention when you were in their stall brushing Yfke. Queen Uniek so proud to have both your sons on her back. Rising Star is looking so good, I am very pleased. I would love a 5 minute video of Rising Star making all his funny noises. He is a very vocal horse and very smart too. Spidey was having a bit of a “ you are not the boss of me” moment with Bauke. It was very funny. Yvonne you are much much younger than I and I have Arthritis. However, I am very careful what I eat. However our weather can be very severe. Several winters ago, I started to follow the humidity in the weather forecasts. I discovered when humidity was high I was in a lot of pain. Also before a snow or rain storm ( 4 or 5 hours) my joints, especially my knees are not good. Within one hour of the storm starting I could run a mile. Also when our temperature goes minus 20 degrees and below I have no aches. Arthritis is very strange. Blessings to all our community today🙏🌠💖💖🍀🍀
I hear you about the arthritis & the weather. A couple years ago the weather guys were predicting a blizzard for my area just before Christmas & I could verify that we were in for it weather wise. The only joint that didn't hurt was my left shoulder which been replaced in 2015. But we need to keep moving, watch our diets & do exercises to strengthen the surrounding muscles. I've also switched from coffee to tea especially green tea & it seems to help.

I loved this video , thank you Yvonne. The boys were adorable and Uniek so protective and gentle with young 'foals'. I love Risey's snorting, he looks so much healthier these days (in November). Bauke and Spidey! What can I say!! Hahaha! And Ifke is too cute. Saly is funny, curious and beautiful, Reintje looking very regal. Loved the dapples on Uniek! Gorgeous.
Love your idea of socks for Uniek. When my legs are aching I put on long socks and leg warmers, works wonders.

If you can, try to put a blanket over Uniek so she get blood circulating through her body beforehand. Osteoarthritis loves heat and eschews cold.

It stops hurting when you are riding, because riding relieves your stress. Getting rid of stress gets rid of the pain. Good for you. Unfortunately, Uniek is no longer with us, so you will have to spend time with Reintje or Saly. At least Uniek is no longer in pain, and I am grateful for that. Now we have to keep our positive thoughts up for Risey. Much love from the US!

Is it likely that Risey would also be helped with his wobbler by doing light excersice by lunging now that he is calmer after being castrated?
Ohhh...good question. I hope someone will answer this so I can learn more.
Unfortunately Rising Star can not be exercised that way. He does not have good enough control of his movements especially in the hind legs……yet. 🙏🤞🙏🤞 The vet prescribed rest and limited exercise. Yes, gelding Rising Star has been beneficial for him. Yvonne continues to give him the best care possible. ❤️🐴

Uniek receives a supplement “cocktail” to help ease inflammation and pain. She has also been given laser treatments with very encouraging results. 👏👏👏
There are quite a few videos in which Yvonne discusses Uniek’s diagnosis and treatments if you are interested in knowing more. ❤
Uniek receives medicine and food supplements, which, as seen, cause her..and the other horses to really shine!

Hi Yvonne I havnt been able to watch your videos for a few months ,what a shock I have had when I find you have lost your fantastic Uniek. I know just how you feel ,I lost my wonderful KRYSTLE. Then a double hit that you could loose Riseing star as well ,how much heartache can one lovely lady take ,I feel for you dear Yvonne the same day Uniek went with the angels I lost my brilliant brother, we been together for 69yrs .God bless you my dear friend keep your chin up ,I look forward to seeing more videos. I understand Uniek's arthritis issues as do you...I have Rheumatoid and osteoarthritis and have my days...sometimes hours and have to force myself sometimes to move...even with the total joint replacements! You give your horses and ponies the best of care! Wish everyone did!! Bauke being the best handyman ever!!

The boys & Uniek are just precious. Uniek is like most of us seniors in the morning & when it rains, she needs to walk to work out the stiffness. She looks like she really enjoys the boys! She listens for them and turns to check them. That new Friesian horse specialty food is really making the horses’ coats shine! They could go to inspection with absolutely no need for baby oil! They all look gorgeous. I love the way the foals’ feathers are growing in. I never knew that Reintje’s mane could grow so long. 😍 I think that when she had birthed her colts, they chewed off her braids. Yfke is more gentle with her mem. 😊😊😊

I'm curious, what's that noise Risey is making in the beginning of the video? What's it's meaning?
It's called snorting and the meaning depends on the context:
- If he's trotting, galloping or flagging his tail and then he's blowing his nose "hard", it's happiness and relieve.
- If his ears are forward, he's elongating his neck and he's blowing "hard", it's alertness.
- If his ears are neutral and he is snorting rhythmically, it's relaxation.
- Or he's just clearing his nasal passages/sinuses but I think it's definitely more of an expression of his emotions because he did not blow his nose as much when he was at Stal G.
In this case, I think he was relaxed. Stal H is truly a paradise for him and his change in demeanor and expressions show that.
We may need to ask Rising Star....like, straight from the horse' s mouth!
They seem to be happy sounds , so I for one am not worried..

Arthritis is an autoimmune disorder. Doctors do not know everything about such pain. Being a human with osteoarthritis I can tell you that some days are better than others. Sometimes you wake up with a lot of pain and stiffness. Moving around may make it better or it may get worse. Weather can affect how you feel. Consuming a lot of carbohydrates definitely makes it worse but what can a horse do about diet? It must be extremely painful for a horse to deal with such a disease. She has no pain now. Such a beautiful horse. So large and yet so gentle. It is like she had a human mind working inside her head.

The boys were so cute on Uniek! What a great photo! 🙏 for you and the horses! This winter has been the pits with all the rain in many parts of the northern hemisphere! We’ve all been feeling stiff and sore! Hopefully it gets better once we have some sun! Moving does seem to help a little! I’m happy that all your pain and troubles seem to evaporate when you are riding Uniek ( your happy place)! 🏇🏇⭐️⭐️❤️❤️

Everything Yvonne said about the pain relieving benefits of movement is true. I can no longer risk riding, as my spine is fused at more than a dozen levels, complicated by osteoporosis. So I walk… a lot! Thank you for your videos, Yvonne. It is wonderful that riding is so therapeutic for you and Uniek, both. 💜

I think it is admirable that you can remember all the names of your horses, regardless of your accident! I am glad you didn’t hurt your back when you fell! You could have herniated some discs. It’s hard to accept what we can’t do, but it is part of life.
Yvonne, you had me laugh with the "senior gymnastics" comment! You are such a young lady with so much life ahead, same goes for Queen Uniek!
I do agree with you, that exercise and strength training work miracles for seniors and everyone for that matter! Beautiful young lady with a brilliant loving family! God Bless! Sending hugs, love and Prayers for total recovery and NO MORE PAIN!!!
