I thoroughly enjoyed that. I am 74 years old, live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and have been around cattle all my life. I've raised mostly south devon, angus, hereford and usually had a jersey around for milk, but the rare breeds are fascinating. There are at least two herds of Highland cattle here running on mountain pasture, but I've never owned one. Very good video, thanks alot for making and showing it.
I grew up on a small farm in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. My father raised beef cattle and we always kept at least one bull. We had different breeds at different times. The last bull was a registered Simmental. My favorite was Angus. Our first Angus was a purebred calf that my Dad's students gifted to him at the end of their senior year. Thats when we changed from many polled dorset sheep to beef cattle and show bantams. My Dad taught agriculture and FFA for grades 9-12. As a freshman he taught my class about the breeds of major farm animals. Beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep and hogs. It was the first time i heard of Highlands. I saw pictures of them and fell in love. Still haven't seen one in person, but i will someday. Thank you fir your videos!!! God bless you and yours!!
Henson my man. You are not only an excellent farmer and presenter [please do not ever leave CountryFILE, as you are one of the best bits] but it seems a pretty good business man also
Very fastinating! I love the preservation of all rare breeds. And all the better in domestic livestock that have superb qualities. Thank you! And your Dad's wisdom and compassion has certainly paid off!
Winnie 2 is probably the most beautiful calf I've ever seen. Wow, all of em!! Albion, Gloucester, White Park, I'm in love with all of your cattle!! All so special. I hope you know Jesus my friend.
I used to go to the Cotswold Farm Park when I was little. You could buy paper bags of feed that you could go and feed to the very tame goats and sheep. The cattle were always so impressive to look at. My favourite animals were the pigs. Gloucester Old Spots, Tamworths, Oxford Sandy & Black & the saddlebacks.
I love these videos. I'm intrigued that you confidently stand amongst the cattle and they are so docile. I was butted by a cow when I was a child and it put me off of going near cattle especially when they have a calf nearby. Lovely looking livestock that, your Dad was a good man, he did a lot of good work in his time, 👍
Thank you for the kind words about our videos and Joe. We're sorry you had that experience, they're wonderful animals and ours are especially quiet with being so regularly close to people.
I'm from Québec, we have an interesting mix of british, French and somewhat swiss & german breeds. It's great to see some breeds we don't see quite often around here.
529 is a beautiful little calf. The Albions and the Gloucester are gorgeous breeds of cattle. The white park looks a lot like our longhorn. Out of all of them I like your black West Highland bull, Black Prince. What a fine bull. Didnt the black and the red West Highlands originally come from different sides of Scotland?
Hi! Great to see Stawberry again; we suspected the cattle were indoors when we visited last week (though the hardy Highlands are always wonderful). The time we visited before, on 11 June 2021, Strawberry was about to calve in around two weeks' time. I assume Winnie is an older daughter?
It's interesting to learn about different cattle breeds. A farmer down the way from us had Longhorn cows crossed with a purebred Angus bull. I always thought he may have trouble at calving time with that horn span but he said no. Evidently they are relatively docile. I like the Albion cattle particularly the blue colored ones. Never heard of a Gloucester before. They seem very unique. 🙂
Adam, thanks for the very interesting video looking at the different breeds of animals and also about the farm and how it operates. I was watching a video of a farmer who does school visits and has recently invited the children to visit his arable farm to give them a better understanding of the types of farms and how food is produced. So between the two of you you will do well to educate of future generations so that they have an understanding of how the agricultural industry works. 👏
im a meat-cattle breeder (Dansk blå-kvæg), but damn. I would love to one day own highland cattle especially black ones beacuse they are so beautiful, or just in general going to see them in GB
Hiya mate, wonderful farm and a great setup! I was just wondering, what breed is Strawberry, Winnie and Winnie 2? Thanks mate, keep up the good work. ❤
Thank you for the kind words! Strawberry's a polled Dairy Shorthorn, we've been putting her to our Albion Bull for the last couple of seasons so they're crosses. 😊 Strawberry's in calf at the moment and due in July!
Very iteresting video. My great grandparents back in 1904 or so owned an estate in Hampshire, called Woodlands, with a farm and had a herd of cattle, a sold dark brown/mahogany colour. While I do have photos they are packed away and not accessible currently. On a visit from RSA in 2013 my late husband and I thought we saw a similar herd of cattle at (or maybe very near) Mottisfont Abbey.
Sounds like u mean red Devon cattle . Was a herd near Mottisfont but sold now . Declined a lot post WW2 but recently become popular with organic farmers & those selling their own meat .
The Glouchesters have a beautiful mahogany color. I would like to see that color bred into a line of Herefords with white faces. Those breeds that come from N. Scotland, Highlands and Angus, are close to the North Sea, equal with Norway. They are well adapted to cold climates. They should not be put in Texas nor the SW Kansas feedlots.
Isn’t it interesting how the attitude of the government changes as the economy and supply chain change? Recently our government began punishing American farms with increased taxes and regulation. They have driven many of my neighbors off their land with the increased taxes. Farming families for many generations gone. We are sheep, chickens, bee, rabbit farmers with the conservation of the Leicester Longwool. Supply chain disruption here means that if we don’t grow our own food the animals have to be sold or slaughtered and the farm will die. To help this along the President closed millions of acres of federal land that have been used for hay production for over 150 years…our hay went from $80/tonne to $450/tonne and our feed grain doubled. We are all just hanging on hoping the next administration doesn’t hate small farm producers like the present one.
Just found these videos very interesting to watch, had to stop watching countryfile 2 years or more ago as my wife said it made me swear to much! Interested in your Albion cattle as my grandfather had a Blue Albion steer called big ben which he showed all over and in 1926 at the British empire exhibition at Wembley it was said he was the largest bullock in the world at 1.5 tons and 6’ 5” height, we have a lovely painting of him standing in front of the house! Still have a small grass farm with a few Devon;s and sheep to.
Confused - Strawberry looked to be a Shorthorn so her daughter Winnie is presumably 50% shorthorn 50% summat else. And Granddaughter 25% shorthorn, 25 other and 50% Albion. With Albions so rare why mix the breeds ?
We used to have Longhorns, fantastic, impressive cattle. The reason we no longer keep them is because of such a successful conservation programme! 👍 Although we'd love to have some again one day...we'll see!
In the UK which doesn't have any large predators that's true. Somewhere like Alaska with wolves and bears? Those horns are pretty vital for protecting themselves and their calves.
Sure a lot more tractable than the half wild Angus range cows I grew up with calving season we carried a 2 inch scrub oak staff about 5 feet long in the hay truck, some of those ladies would try to climb in the back of the truck and put the boots to you
Salam, my name is Youssef from Morocco. I want to work with you. I have several evidence in this field. I want your help, because I want to immigrate to your country in order to help my father.🤲🤲

So much pride and passion in the care of your animals . It’s a delight to watch and learn about the breeds 😊
We used to raise White Park on our farm in Illinois when I was a kid. I miss those days.
I adore the Highland cattle... their "bangs" are just too cute.
Henson my man. You are not only an excellent farmer and presenter [please do not ever leave CountryFILE, as you are one of the best bits] but it seems a pretty good business man also
What a beautiful bull!!!
Beautiful cattle. This was a real treat to watch. I come from ranchers and farmers in Texas…I remember visiting and having so much fun.
Very fastinating! I love the preservation of all rare breeds. And all the better in domestic livestock that have superb qualities. Thank you! And your Dad's wisdom and compassion has certainly paid off!

amazing video

A man that loves his work and loves his life

I loved the black bull❤❤❤
So pleased to get an update on Strawberry, thank you 😊
You're more than welcome 😊 thank you for requesting it!
When I was a child one of my great aunts had a dairy farm…I loved Jersey milk…fresh and creamy!
owning my own farm with highland cattle is my goal in life. amazing cattle
That's a great goal to have in life, keep visualising it and you'll get there!
We have a croft for sale if your really interested in having your own highland fold.
Very informative! Rare breeds are really interesting to learn about! Liked and subbed
Thank you kindly!

Thank you for visiting us recently, we hope the weather was nice for you! Strawbs is the best isn't she? You're correct, Winnie is a year older. 👍

Calves aren't born with horns so no they wouldn't have issues calving.
I think the OP meant they worried about the farmer getting stabbed by the cow, not problems with the calf coming out.
Those cattle in the shed look good , you'll be having some good muck to spread from their bedding . Good stuff 👌
beautiful babies
Wonderful to hear about British cattle.
Beautiful cattle.
Fascinating.
Great video. I love these, thank you.

Loved seeing all of your cattle Adam can you a video on the other animals you have
Thank you, we certainly can!

Are the white parks the same as the ones at chillingham and dinefwr?

@@CotswoldFarmPark thanks for your reply! I hope you make a video about strawberry’s new calf! Shouldn’t be too long now! Best wishes, Tristan

Is TMR not total mixed ration? I never heard of the Albion breed before. Fine looking bulls.
You are correct, it is mixed. Please forgive the error.
The Albions are worth investigating further, they're beautiful cattle and incredibly rare, they need all the help they can get!

I ❤ cattle 🐄 🐄 🐮 🐄 🐮

Big Ben sounds like an impressive fella!
How can we import these ? I am not in UK. Does UK govt allow the export of the breeding stock ?
@ goldshaw farm should check out the Highland cows here and how they can be handled (and miked too)
I was thinking while you were talking about milking the scottish cattle, milking that bull might be difficult.
Glauster look like Pinzengauer to me (Spelling may be wrong)
Interesting
Watched this while drinking a pint of your Butcombe Rare Breed Pale Ale.
Perfect 👌 we're just been harvesting the barley for that, there's a full episode on the process 😊
Prince is beautiful ❤
Wonder if Harold the bull is there which he bought from the farm I worked on
We had Harold for a while, some of his offspring are still with us!
Ayrshires are your greatest triumph. I sincerely believe that they will have thier Day!
What’s the milk yield of dairy albions?
👍🏻
Look somewhat like the American Bison.
some of them have horns.some of them not. Are those naturally hornless breeds? or are they being dehorned as calves?
Confused - Strawberry looked to be a Shorthorn so her daughter Winnie is presumably 50% shorthorn 50% summat else. And Granddaughter 25% shorthorn, 25 other and 50% Albion. With Albions so rare why mix the breeds ?
Strawberry’s shorthorn her daughter a white shorthorn so 100% and daughters Albion so 50 50
What about Longhorn breed?

@@CotswoldFarmPark Thanks for that...I see a few in midlands Ireland.
❤❤❤👍
Not a fan of cattle with horns. Fine animals but there's always that danger. I prefer polled cattle..🙂
In the UK which doesn't have any large predators that's true. Somewhere like Alaska with wolves and bears? Those horns are pretty vital for protecting themselves and their calves.

Why do so many baristas have the same barnyard jewelry? Similar rooting problems?

Albion are derived from a cross of Shorthorns with what??
Friesian × shorthorn can look like that if shoryhorn the right colour .
Do you still own Black Prince?
💋🥰😍😘🐄🐄🐄 LOVEY‼️😍 COWS AND BULLS 🐂 ARE ALSO MAJESTIC AND MAGNIFICENT HUGE CREATURES OF GOD‼️💜🐄💜🐄💜 THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE‼️😃🫶🙋🏽🔥🙏👑✝️📖🔥🕊️
My mind has been pickled that by mainstream media that I honestly read that as 'R4cist Cattle' 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Guard them from TB!
No matter how docile it may appear, it is very foolish to stand with your back to a bull.
the Highland cattle have never and will never become rare because they are so dammed quite lol and fluffy lol
Eat drink milk
OMG! 😳 , 🫣
I LOVE YOUR RECORDING CAMERA. REALLY AN HD RESOLUTION. IT'S LIKE I AM JUST TALKING OR LISTENING TO YOU IN FRONT OF ME.
Beautiful cattle.
