How Laziness Leads to Lust

- It's not just physical laziness, but spiritual laziness that leads to lust.
One of the most common pieces advice given to ward off lust is to stay busy, but sometimes that isn’t enough. Bobby Angel points out that we can be very busy while remaining spiritually lazy, and it is this inattentiveness to spiritual matters that often leads to lust.
For those who are struggling with lust, Bobby suggests that they ask God for the grace to care more about spiritual matters.
In fact, we all can benefit from that advice, while asking God what he wants us to be attentive to.

This was spot on. Just when I was getting comfortable with my slacking spiritually. To be honest I was slowly giving up because my spirituality fluctuates. Thank you for the reminder
You're not alone, it has seemed like my faith fluctuates and I've gotten lazy, but recently God has woken me up to the power of his love, and that's when I realized all the other stuff I was keeping myself busy with doesn't satisfy like keeping God in my life does. For me, I am spiritually lazy at praying and reading the bible, when I finally opened up the bible and read even one verse in Luke yesterday, everything changed, I received the grace of God. If it's possible for me, it's possible for anyone! All we have to do is be humble and open to receive him and his Holy Spirit into our hearts.
Don't give up b/c it's hard or inconsistent- that's Ok! Keep trying! Praying always transforms you & your heart.
Please pray for me cuz I've been struggling with this 2 issues (Sloth and Lust) for sooo many years and I'm at a point that it has hindered my life a lot to have confidence to keep going and do new stuff

First time I’ve heard the word “Spiritual” attached to laziness for the full definition of Sloth! Now I know why the battle to say “no” to ANY addictive temptation cannot be overcome without “God’s intervention” aka “Grace!” Thanks for this important video. Would definitely agree with thinking about your future spouse and how much they will appreciate your sacrifice now for the benefit in the future. You’re thinking about your future spouse now, putting God and them before your lustful urges now. It’s not easy, but it is worth it!
I definitely agree with MollyCue. To encourage you, I once met a brother in Christ whom the Lord revealed would be my husband, but when I met him, he wasn’t ready to receive me. He gave himself away and was still living a sinful life. Satan had lied to him that his actions wouldn’t hurt anyone, but Satan didn’t tell him how his actions would hurt his future wife and children. The future comes, we meet, he wasn’t ready to receive God’s blessing. His actions from his past and current sexual sins ended up hurting the both of us so much. The emotional impact of one person’s sin goes beyond yourself. Brother, save yourself. Ask God to satisfy you physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Seek His face by reading His word. Seek Him. The pain you would save your future wife and children is worth it. The emotional pain I still carry from that person is great and never goes away. God bless you :)
Lust is not an emotion; it is a demonic entity and when it comes up, remember this; it isn't you, its the demon that is around you at that time; resist the demon and he will flee.

I can't agree more than this. It is simple, in the state of sluggishness or lazy, the mind looks for excitement or relieve thus dopamine lurks at the back of the mind and then temptation of flesh delights if persists in that state. As Aquinas says : " Suggestion, delight and consent "

this makes so much sense bobby! I remember growing up and we used to pray the rosary together and we would say 1 decade per child. It didn't last long cause we all then went to boarding school so it no longer became customary for us. But i want to do better now though for not only my kids but for those around me

Just to add a little bit to the conversation here, lust doesn't have to involve the eyes. It can be all in your head! I think women in particular struggle with fantasy and lust in our minds, withut even having to seek out anyone r anything to look at. And its still lust!

Well, it may be more like the more active you are in moral fields, that that detail helps to dominate lust to the highest degree... I well remember how happy I was in school when I was overloaded with studies, it helped me to behave myself, so for instance by 6th grade in elementary school I was at the top of my game: involved in three music groups and trying to get into Drama Club's Back Stage Crew as well as keeping at the top, or near there, of my studies- as far as the flesh went, I was completely unchallenged, and to boot, I was also active in the faith at that time! I regard that as my golden years overall.
I don't even want to and I pray for it to leave but its hard. I need your help brothers and sisters to pray for me to the LORD our GOD.
I have a reverse sloth, I am full of zeal when it comes to my spiritual life but lazy when it comes to temporal things. Does that count?
In theory, your zeal for God should spill out into the rest of your life. If you're struggling with sloth, lust, or any other sin, perhaps serving God can help you do something meaningful and fruitful that gives you a more lasting sense of joy, instead of the fleeting happiness that comes from lazing around. Perhaps ask God to show you how to serve him or serve others, or strengthen healthy relationships; those sorts of things help me when I'm struggling with sin.

@@frankk.777 hmmm..not really. I lack interested in passing things and more dedicated in doing spiritual deeds including works of mercy. I don't necessarily cloister myself and pray non-stop. It just means I don't for worldly motivation but only for the glory of God and for the good of mankind.

My struggle is I genuinely feel remorse, go to confession and then slip up again a few days later, it's so hard. Once this happens I feel defeated, cant receive communion until I go to confession again and then feel almost ashamed to continue praying and working on my relationship with God which is so discouraging. Dont get me wrong I love the sacrament, but it's become almost a chore because if I fall i automatically feel like a crappy person and like nothing will help.. go to confession 2 weeks later, struggle a few days later and the cycle continues. Prayers are appreciated! :)
I am exactly the same..I get to the point that I'm embarrassed & ashamed to go to confession because I have to confess the same cycle of sin every time. I don't seem to grow spiritually at all no matter how much I pray and receive Holy Communion.

Just ask anyone just over the age of 65 who have not spent much time in reflection while having to be making calculations most of the time until fatigue before then how hard of a battle it is to fight.
I'm not sure I totally agree with going to the gym as a good use of someone's time, more an illusion of doing that. Watching a box set and/or going to the gym accomplish pretty much the same thing. Either use your time wisely or don't.

Kids do what they want. Parents can't control them. That's an illusion. If children were controllable there wouldn't be so many young people losing their way. Everything else that you said I agree with.

The sin of "sloth" is actually pronounced "SLOWTH", rhymes with "loathe". Very common error when Catholics talk about the sin.
Oddly I guess, and perhaps it is because I am 62, sloth in my life makes me too lazy to lust.

Sorry but I don't agree. Honestly you should have talked more about "being single (not married) and desire of sex". Maybe there are some situations that comes from laziness but most of the time lust happens - being single and healthy desire of healthy sex -. Some people believe that it's a sin because it's written in Bible. But another fact is we are weak and human at the same time. So any solutions for this kind of people? Because all the things you mentioned in the video will not help at all. Thanks. I hope you'll read this comment.
