I'm a born-again Christian I repent everyday. I used to be Catholic I grew up Catholic and my family's Catholic and the Lord saved me from Catholicism. you do not confess your sins to a man and you call no man father. God is our Father in heaven and Jesus Christ is our savior and our advocate. I confess my sins only to God in Jesus' name and to no one else. I don't need a man to absolve me of my sins and tell me if I say five hail Marys and ten our fathers that my sin is forgiven even when I was young I thought that was ridiculous

If you want to be saved and go to heaven, why not just read and believe the gospel of your salvation? Stop trying to forgive your own sins, and stop working for your salvation, because you can NEVER earn it. Payment for the remission and forgivness of sins required death. Bloodshead. You'll NEVER afford it. All the worlds sin debts were paid by the blood and death of Jesus Christ at Calvary. Have you not heard and believe the good news? The gospel? In the old testiment, remission of sins required death. Romans 5:10. Something, or someone had to die, because the wages of sin is death. Asking, praying, walking the isle, forgiving others to be forgiven, or rubbing rosery beads doesnt work because you cant work for a free gift, and this gift is unconditional. Jesus who knew no sin was made sin for you. He made peace through the blood of his cross. He was made THE perfect, living sacrifice for ALL your sins. 2Corinthians 5:18,19, Ephesians 1:7; 2:15, Colossians 1:20. Jesus isn't mad at you. He loves you. He litterally loved you to death. He reconciled himself to you, me, and the world. Sin is not seperating you from God on this side of the cross, your lack of faith is. Your sin debt was owed, and that sin debt was paid IN FULL by the blood and death of Jesus Christ. You dont need Jesus to atone for your sins, because it already happened wether you believe it or not. You dont need Jesus to be buried because it already happened wether you believe it or not. You dont need Jesus to raise again three days later because it already happened wether you believe it or not. it is due to self management skills that need to be developed. This whole religious part is confusing the heck out of people. sin is another word for doing stuff that hurts ourselves and hurts others. It is best avoided always. the religious element is adding complexity to it that isn't always helpful.
@@Onlinesully That's not exactly what sin is as it is bigger than simply hurting if that make sense. Sin is an act that is a trangression of God's law. When you are sinning, that mean you are not aligned with God's will. God wants us to be in communion with him, to have a relationship with him and sinning interfere with that relationship. Hence, religion is not adding complexity, it's adding extra meaning to ones action!

The way Protestants usually confess is primarily through prayers to God, then admitting struggles to fellow Christians for accountability and prayer support, and in some cases, a public response to an alter call at the end of a sermon or service.

I know many Evangelicals that think every sin is already forgiven for the baptized in faith, regardless of whether they ask God for forgiveness and repent, aka saved for life. But then, what was the point of Jesus giving the Apostles the power to "bind and loose sins" and giving Peter the keys to the Kingdom if their belief is true? I've heard different rationalizations of that verse from them, all essentially boiling down to "it was mostly a pointless gesture"

Drinking is not falling short. Getting drunk is. Jesus changed water into wine at the wedding feast of Cana. Jesus and the disciples shared bread and wine at the last supper. Drinking is not a sin...getting inebriated is because that is when your thinking gets cloudy.

Dear Rita, I am a former life-long Catholic but left because only God can forgive sins. Only He knows if you are making a sincere confession. The priest can't read your mind. Martin Luther had the same problem of scrupulosity, but when he read Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord," a light went on and he was overjoyed. Wages are what we earn, but no one can merit eternal life no matter what we do, Jesus did it all. Hope this helps.
When I was a Protestant there was a process called inner healing which is like you said on 5:13 renouncing sins in the name of Jesus. Now that I’m Catholic and defending Catholicism. I see the similarity. Although, I find it so rewarding that I can go to confession as often as I want and experience the same cleansing and freedom. Inner healing was not offered to me but twice in 18 years. When I went back to Catholicism last year, I was not sure about confession. I see that God always leads us to the right people or priests to explain things. I wish Protestants would understand the Catholic Church and that confession is biblical.

Every time I watch Fr. Mike I always imagine who would have filled his shoes if he did not have he courage to end his relationship with his then girlfriend in order to answer the call to priesthood. I also applaud his girlfriend back then for allowing him to join seminary with her blessings. Truly God is working through you. How I wish I had the same experience

I've never heard anyone speak of renouncing the spirit of any given sin as a matter of course in a confession, except on one retreat, which was deliverance-focused. Thank you! That should be standard procedure everywhere!
It is a good message, but it can be taken too far. In some deliverance circles, they view all sin as spirits outside themselves and it gets to the point sin becomes something one is afflicted by and not something one chooses to commit. That's not good thinking.
Get support .. support group. Go to extra priest counselling Fast more. Rosary.. eliminate temptation. Holy water holy salts.. track ur time and sins to avoud it.. Read spiritual exercises by ignatius veryngood for habitual sins Get some1 u reallt trust as accountability person
I am old now and I find that I can always learn something again or new. Btw 66. It may not seem old but it is to me. And I am still a work in progress, I am glad Jesus isn't finished with me yet.

I have got to say, I have definitely had that feeling over and over to the point I went to a different church to spare father at least a little annoyance. It really does help to hear that it not an uncommon thing.
Confess not only for forgiveness but with intention of renunciation. I think that part was always missing when I went for confession. My wording during confession was also lacking. Thank you Father for enlightening us. Be richly blessed!

My colleague who is a Catholic born & who is now Born again. Always reminded me of my Confessed sins which I repeatedly keep confessing yet rpeatedly doing😁 I always say that Confession was unlimited, I'm always prep up with excuses. So I guess after hearing today's talk from Fr. Mike, I know that we no longer have to be conscious and ashamed of our repeated sins because it is after all a wonderful gift to get closer to God❤
This is a big problem with Catholicism in my opinion. How do Catholics find motivation to change their sinful behavior if they keep being forgiven? This enables them to continue living the same way and it enables them to live in denial. I think they go to Confession so they will go to heaven. This is how they are raised. I think Catholics have built a reputation to be liars and this is why the religion is losing their following. You can live in denial if the Catholic Church enables you to. This ritual that you are describing may make some feel better but it still enables them.

Confession is repentance. Confession is sitting with mercy - if we are hard on our sins Jesus will be gentle with you.Sin is a wound it needs to be treated and healed. That’s why we seek Jesus. We are immersed in a culture of sin and the struggle is real. Habitual sin can be a sign of deep woundedness. Run to Jesus in each fall don’t stop going for mercy. The love of the grace of God should be more than our own reputation. I was once shamed in a confessional for same sins , it made me realize only Jesus can judge me , love me heal me.I am even more determined to go and say sorry - great healing has come. Forgiveness is so healing - shame is so very dark. Believe in repentance and go to confession. Most Priests are so merciful. Go like your eternal life depends on it. God Bless , take courage. Yes. You're right. Some find it difficult to avoid sins, especially when they have the vice of committing the same sin. It is possible to avoid sins, not alone, but by the power of God's grace. Thus we grow in our love of God and the more we grow, the more we avoid sins. I wish I would’ve known this years prior, since I struggle with OCD and I am on the spectrum. Being told by my priest to never commit those sins again made me think I was a terrible person and thus I didn’t want to confess anymore because I didn’t want to face the fact that I was weak and I relapsed in my behaviors. Usually in confession, I say "I have been *insert sin here*" and then because I always forget to say it once I finish confessing, my priest asks me "are you truly sorry these and all the sons of your past life?"
Father Mike is fabulous. He spoke at our parish, St. Anthony of Padua in The Woodlands, TX, and captivated the audience. Funny, personable, and inspirational, he is a beautiful servant of Christ. We need more priests like him.
I struggle with this because admittedly, the more I read the Bible the more sins that I become aware of. And I think I may have religious OCD (Scrupulosity). I notice sin everywhere I turn and everywhere I used to take pleasure. It's made me really depressed and ashamed to learn that I'm not supposed do those things that I enjoy such as: telling crude jokes, lusting after women etc. I'm single but I don't even want to date anymore for fear of falling back into sin. I don't know what to watch on T.V. anymore. I spend an enormous amount of time scrutinizing over the Bible to the point where I've become unproductive because I see sin in my work as well. I work in the entertainment industry and much of the content is crude jokes, cladly dressed women etc. Which I have learned that the Bible warns us to turn away from such things. I used to have fun with these things and I'd be so relaxed about my sins because I thought, perfection is not feasible anyway so I should just focus on not hurting anyone. But now that I read the Bible it seems like I set up my own false standard. The Bible says “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” I'm working on it. But then why am I so depressed? Is this normal? I have seen treatments that recommend for one experiencing this to purposely commit sins until you retrain your brain to accept the uncertainty of what lies in the next life. But that seems utterly terrifying and unbiblical to me. Any advice?

I used to be Catholic I grew up Catholic and my family's Catholic and the Lord saved me from Catholicism. you do not confess your sins to a man and you call no man father. God is our Father in heaven and Jesus Christ is our savior and our advocate. I confess my sins only to God in Jesus' name and to no one else. I don't need a man to absolve me of my sins and tell me if I say five hail Marys and ten our fathers that my sin is forgiven even when I was young I thought that was ridiculous

@@Onlinesully That's not exactly what sin is as it is bigger than simply hurting if that make sense. Sin is an act that is a trangression of God's law. When you are sinning, that mean you are not aligned with God's will. God wants us to be in communion with him, to have a relationship with him and sinning interfere with that relationship. Hence, religion is not adding complexity, it's adding extra meaning to ones action!

11. Get into a support group
12. Get blessed sapulchers salt against demons
13. Holw water or blessing fron priest of home
14. Blessed statues mary ...

15.. humility humiliity our pride wants to sin pleasure

The way Protestants usually confess is primarily through prayers to God, then admitting struggles to fellow Christians for accountability and prayer support, and in some cases, a public response to an alter call at the end of a sermon or service.

I know many Evangelicals that think every sin is already forgiven for the baptized in faith, regardless of whether they ask God for forgiveness and repent, aka saved for life. I believe that if someone can be annoyed with your words . No matter what race , gender etc that person who is listening to you. I sincerely believe that he/she doesnt love humans or follow the path that person meant to choose . Saying something and doing another .
We all fall short. Drinking is a falling short. Cursing is falling short. Getting angry and yelling while saying nasty things is falling short.
Drinking is not falling short. Getting drunk is. Jesus changed water into wine at the wedding feast of Cana. Jesus and the disciples shared bread and wine at the last supper. Drinking is not a sin...getting inebriated is because that is when your thinking gets cloudy.
I have had OCD most of my life. I really needed your talk about confessing over and over again.,and often I still need direction on how to handle it. I would never go to Communion if I listened to my brain. Thank you Father Mike.

Dear Rita, I am a former life-long Catholic but left because only God can forgive sins. Only He knows if you are making a sincere confession. The priest can't read your mind. Martin Luther had the same problem of scrupulosity, but when he read Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord," a light went on and he was overjoyed. Wages are what we earn, but no one can merit eternal life no matter what we do, Jesus did it all. Hope this helps.
When I was a Protestant there was a process called inner healing which is like you said on 5:13 renouncing sins in the name of Jesus. Now that I’m Catholic and defending Catholicism. I see the similarity. Although, I find it so rewarding that I can go to confession as often as I want and experience the same cleansing and freedom. Inner healing was not offered to me but twice in 18 years. When I went back to Catholicism last year, I was not sure about confession. I see that God always leads us to the right people or priests to explain things. I wish Protestants would understand the Catholic Church and that confession is biblical.

What I do know, however, is that Jesus brought us a - as in 'one' - message of salvation. My message to you is: read what the early Church preached and taught; let's say the first 500 years after Christ came into the world. Every time I watch Fr. Mike I always imagine who would have filled his shoes if he did not have he courage to end his relationship with his then girlfriend in order to answer the call to priesthood. I also applaud his girlfriend back then for allowing him to join seminary with her blessings. Truly God is working through you. How I wish I had the same experience

I've never heard anyone speak of renouncing the spirit of any given sin as a matter of course in a confession, except on one retreat, which was deliverance-focused. Thank you! That should be standard procedure everywhere!
It is a good message, but it can be taken too far. In some deliverance circles, they view all sin as spirits outside themselves and it gets to the point sin becomes something one is afflicted by and not something one chooses to commit. That's not good thinking.
Thank you Father for bringing hope, when many of us rather experience discouragement while facing habitual sins.
Get support .. support group. Go to extra priest counselling
Fast more. Rosary.. eliminate temptation. Holy water holy salts.. track ur time and sins to avoud it..
Read spiritual exercises by ignatius veryngood for habitual sins
Get some1 u reallt trust as accountability person
Never ever giveup.. do novenas confession 1x a week month. Do adoration mass more whatever works...

Confess not only for forgiveness but with intention of renunciation. I think that part was always missing when I went for confession. My wording during confession was also lacking. Thank you Father for enlightening us. Be richly blessed!

Hi Alan, I recently had my 1st confession n let me tell u that the feeling we get afterwards is so amazing that is worth the nerves. Confession is reconciliation with God he won't judge you he just wants u to come to him with tell him ur sins.
First off congrats! Secondly, I am a convert as well and went to confession for the first time when I was 22. I was anxious and nervous as well, but it will be worth it! “ A brief moment of discomfort is far better than eternity in hell”. You are not alone! Many blessings!

Uriel Dovidoff confession is so beautiful.. Whenever i am dealing with habitual sin, frequent confession always helps me to win over that habitual sin. Praise be to God. Username Catholics do not worship Mary! Do you know what the word veneration means? Obviously not. It means to respect and honour something, not worship. Mary and the saints are venerated, and god alone is worshipped. If you don’t know such simple things as these, your faith is in grave danger.

My colleague who is a Catholic born & who is now Born again. Always reminded me of my Confessed sins which I repeatedly keep confessing yet rpeatedly doing😁 I always say that Confession was unlimited, I'm always prep up with excuses. So I guess after hearing today's talk from Fr. Mike, I know that we no longer have to be conscious and ashamed of our repeated sins because it is after all a wonderful gift to get closer to God❤
This is a big problem with Catholicism in my opinion. How do Catholics find motivation to change their sinful behavior if they keep being forgiven? This enables them to continue living the same way and it enables them to live in denial. I think they go to Confession so they will go to heaven. This is how they are raised. I think Catholics have built a reputation to be liars and this is why the religion is losing their following. You can live in denial if the Catholic Church enables you to. This ritual that you are describing may make some feel better but it still enables them.

I am 62 years old and meet your definition of a practicing Catholic but want to be more. It is difficult to find information without a spiritual director on how to do a good confession. Confession is repentance. Confession is sitting with mercy - if we are hard on our sins Jesus will be gentle with you.Sin is a wound it needs to be treated and healed. That’s why we seek Jesus. We are immersed in a culture of sin and the struggle is real. Habitual sin can be a sign of deep woundedness. Run to Jesus in each fall don’t stop going for mercy. The love of the grace of God should be more than our own reputation. I was once shamed in a confessional for same sins , it made me realize only Jesus can judge me , love me heal me.I am even more determined to go and say sorry - great healing has come. Forgiveness is so healing - shame is so very dark. Believe in repentance and go to confession. Most Priests are so merciful. Go like your eternal life depends on it. God Bless , take courage. God is not discouragement - only love!

Yes. You're right. Some find it difficult to avoid sins, especially when they have the vice of committing the same sin. It is possible to avoid sins, not alone, but by the power of God's grace. Thus we grow in our love of God and the more we grow, the more we avoid sins. Thank you Father Mike. I have been enjoying your channel for many months now. I found this video so helpful as in December I will be coming into the Church and will finally be able to receive the Holy Eucharist and go to confession. It makes me weep for joy at the thought of coming Home. I have been so hard hearted and spoke out against the church for years because I believed all the lies I had heard growing up. Praise be to God He was patient with me and by His grace my heart was softened and my eyes opened to the beauty and Truth that is His One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I wish I would’ve known this years prior, since I struggle with OCD and I am on the spectrum. Being told by my priest to never commit those sins again made me think I was a terrible person and thus I didn’t want to confess anymore because I didn’t want to face the fact that I was weak and I relapsed in my behaviors. Now I know they key is to renounce my sins in Jesus name so that I can repent fully and not just seek forgiveness thank you 🙏🏼 ❤

Usually in confession, I say "I have been *insert sin here*" and then because I always forget to say it once I finish confessing, my priest asks me "are you truly sorry these and all the sons of your past life?"

I struggle with this because admittedly, the more I read the Bible the more sins that I become aware of. And I think I may have religious OCD (Scrupulosity). I notice sin everywhere I turn and everywhere I used to take pleasure. It's made me really depressed and ashamed to learn that I'm not supposed do those things that I enjoy such as: telling crude jokes, lusting after women etc. I'm single but I don't even want to date anymore for fear of falling back into sin. I don't know what to watch on T.V. anymore. I spend an enormous amount of time scrutinizing over the Bible to the point where I've become unproductive because I see sin in my work as well. I work in the entertainment industry and much of the content is crude jokes, cladly dressed women etc. Which I have learned that the Bible warns us to turn away from such things. I used to have fun with these things and I'd be so relaxed about my sins because I thought, perfection is not feasible anyway so I should just focus on not hurting anyone. But now that I read the Bible it seems like I set up my own false standard. The Bible says “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
I'm working on it. But then why am I so depressed? Is this normal? I have seen treatments that recommend for one experiencing this to purposely commit sins until you retrain your brain to accept the uncertainty of what lies in the next life. But that seems utterly terrifying and unbiblical to me. Any advice?
