Ultramarines with goblin green bases and bright yellow shoulder pad trim!! LOVELY!!
To quote the famous ork scholar and genious Orkimedes:
*"ERE WE GO! ERE WE GO!"*
Which is to say; absolutely wonderful
"ERE WE GO! ERE WE GO!"
The Khorne symbols not being super perfect isn’t a bad thing - can you honestly expect bloodcrazed maniacs to have the patience to paint perfect iconography on their armour, or even sit still long enough for a slave to do it? Plus Chaos symbols are supposed to warp and distort slightly by their very nature, so they probably shouldn’t be picture perfect anyway. 😉
You know they'll be one slave or marine who will be shaking because they're not perfectly done in the fiction. A person turns insane and to chaos because they have the worst OCD
@@TheRagingModeller they’re all off worshiping Slaanesh and Tzeentch. 😜
Those are some nicely painted armies! I am really looking forward to seeing how their battle goes. Is anyone else thinking that the number of krak missile and melta gun shots that Wib's Ultramarines can land on Snipe's Terminators before they get into melee is going to be critical to determining the result?
First shooting phase will be the decider I think
I think you may be right there hah
If the Khorne-flakes😜 get into Close Combat its... Game over Man
yeah..."armies"... Since when a squad is considered an army?
@@sareth90 bro did you watch the video?
Lovely miniatures! I like Snipe's idea of going more minimal and less spikey for most of the terminators, makes them look more deadly. The wolf skull and deathwatch shoulder pad is a great touch, even though it's serendipitous. Wib is so good at marrying retro color schemes with modern techniques in a way that doesn't just make them look like old minis but something a bit more custom. Both are beautiful little armies and I can't wait to see the game.
Congrats on the 40k subs- I've watched your videos since the early days of your channel and you two (and your accomplices like Drummer Matt and Dicko) have brought me countless hours of laughs, entertainment, interesting info, and old school 40k goodness over the years. It's wonderful to see the success you've achieved.
But now Wib has a new army to finish!
Also shoulder spikes are stupid, armour is supposed to deflect not catch enemy blows
Can’t wait for the battle. May I suggest you make some period inspired terrain? That would be cool.
Yeeesss, seconding this if it's managable
You mean goblin green styrofoam balls with red toothpicks sticking out of them?
@@AFnord ALL GLORY TO THE WEIRD ALIEN CACTUS
@@AFnord "Careful, Brothers; those things could have someone's eye out."
"What, these red spikes, Sergeant? Ha, we know no feAAAAAGH! My eye! My beautiful eye!"
@@euansmith3699 and that's how Wib's captain got his bionic eye.
It was nice to see Snipe's painting up close for once. Personally I think you did really well with that Khorne symbol.
Those Ultramarines took me straight back to my childhood can't wait to see the game :-) congratulations on 40k subs!
Our local store has a 400 point tournament back in 2nd edition. It was so much fun to try and squeeze as much as possible in such a small force. My aspect warrior host lead by a warlock did well as a lot of folks just took terminator squads as they fit in the points and a fully charged wraith sword filled with power cards did wonders in killing them in close combat.
mine was 500pt against the staff with 1000pts! But if you won you got a free blister pack of your choice worth £5 Army had to be legal too which was hard with guard as they had addition rules on army formation. I did win though
@@1985slipstream Which blister pack(s) did you win?
@@Bluecho4 Think i took a special weapons team combo pack like a plasma gun and grenade launcher for tallern dessert raiders.
I started at the tail end of 4th, so my true first edition was 5th I suppose. I remember we would have 750 point mini tourney's, and I would just try to cram as many mechanized guard as possible. I think my favourite list ended up being 20 veterans (with carapace armour I think), a lord Commisar, 2 chimera's, 2 armoured sentinels (I think with lascannons) and a leman rush demolisher. For 750 points that was a pretty stacked force, able to deal with pretty much anything except mass heavy infantry.
@@1985slipstream Nice.
I played 2nd edition when it came out. My friend played a Chaos army and I played Dark Angels. Those termies are going to wreck the tac marines. And now because I've said this on the internet, the exact opposite of my prediction will happen. Congratulations on your victory Wib!
I was just thinking this very thing. Terminator armour in 2nd ed was unstoppable unless you had lots and lots of heavy weapons. But then, rolling double 1's happens nine times out of ten whenever you think like that.
@@MindSump bigger games youd try to tie up the terminators with something cheap and expendable for a few turns in close combat. or as said above blast them with lascannons and krak missles but toguh in a smaller game.
Tbh he should have went for the meltagun in his tactical squad flamer is pretty terrible vs terminators. Them terminators will eat that silly tactical squad for breakfast unless they get horribly unlucky.
Don't underestimate rapid fire from the marines. If they force enough armour saves the termies are bound to fail a few... I think if the marines get first turn they'll have a good chance.
@@secondeditionwargaming While you maybe right that still doesnt explain why he took a flamer over a meltagun :P
glad you chose that colour scheme Snipe, word bearers have always had my favourite design for chaos space marines for some reason.
a tac squad of ultramarines + captain squaring up against some "not word bearers" terminators is also very… "Chaos Gate"? the only thing that would improve this vibe is if Wib took a rhino that they weren't able to drive over relief terrain and that got stuck in the backfield doing nothing
They're not Word Bearers. Geez. :P
I love the colourful paint schemes of this era. Takes me back, and they're very eye catching too!
I exclusively play this edition. Finally, someone makes a battle report!
2nd Edition > all other editions. I play 9th cause my son plays it but I still make him play some 2nd edition at times ;)
@@MorganThorgan That is good. I am the opposite (being born in 2002), I get my dad to play some 2nd.
Pretty cool to see other people playing it though.
I converted to 8th edition about 2 years ago, after playing with 2nd since it came out. I think 8th (but not necessarily 9th) is probably easier to pick up and quick to play with lots of models, but 2nd beats it for feel and crazy fun factor every time.
@@ratspike8017 I understand that, sad to hear about your conversion though 😂
I do miss 2nd Edition a great deal. I only played 40K from like 1991 to 1995, and getting back into miniatures now, and 9th just feels kind of wrong.
Congrats on 40k subs! You deserve every one and more! I love seeing these retro armies, a bit of living history! Surely if you wanted to play a 2nd edition army the most accurate one would be Craftworld eldar as half their range is still from second edition
Can’t wait for this to become a large series on the channel and for these forces to expand to an astronomical amount
As someone who got into Warhammer at the start of 3rd after watching and looking at all the minis of 2nd... this is bringing back very nice memories of high school weekends spent it the backrooms of local gaming stores.
I loved the points to pounds ratio that the marines could hit in 2nd edition. Basic 5 man un-upgraded terminator squad = about 65 gretchin.
The fun of watching dozens of dice to hit becaome about 25 rolls to wound, then half a dozen 3+ on 2d6 armour saves. This was followed by 5 terminators stormbolters turning grots into green mist.
Brings me back to the 90s. Thank you!
Yay! We need more videos about showing silly fun of older edition games!
Bloody brilliant! Cracking paint jobs on both as well, can't wait for part 2!
Congrats on 40k subs! I started listening to your codex compliant vids after I got into painting last year. You guys have been fantastic listening material, and I appreciate how relaxed and casual you guys are across your videos.
I'm glad this showed up when I was painting, now I know I am not the only one with a lady terminator character! Strikemaster Gertrude is pleased.
Love it.
Great work on your models.
My first exposure to the hobby was a battle report (Bridge of Death) from waaaay back. I remember seing in the magazine the all the different things you could make your army out of. Man what a trip back. Can't wait for the battle report guys, and gal.
I started my WH40K journey back just before the release of the 2nd Edition box set. I can't tell you how many hours I spent along 2nd edition, I now find myself and a hand full of old friends that started back in time like me, playing 2nd edition again with all of the crazy things happening with Games Workshop. If you never played and or watched a 2nd edition game before, you should, it will change your entire outlook on the game as a whole.
Remember, WH40K is our game, have fun
Just glorious! This gave me some really nostalgic feels.
Remember staring at the picture of the 2nd Edition Game in the Argos catalogue.
My god I'm old...
If I remember the rules correctly the best thing about snipes army is it could become a 1000pt army by using the teleport rules, Double the cost of the model in terminator armor and it can teleport onto the battlefield aka deep strike. This becomes extra funny as Wib would have to paint more models.
2nd Ed was my 1st.
Started in 1994.
Still have my boxset, and the book for dark millennium etc
Even I initially followed your guys for those gameplay videos, I am glad to see doing 40k working out for you guys congrats.
Ahh nostalgia for the first try of playing 40k :)
I remember back in the day I played 40k in 40mins (3rd Ed) back in 6th form.
Great concept. Love it and please keep expanding the armies!
Great video, certainly bringing back the memories I started around 2nd with that Ork, Space Marine boxset before I fell to Chaos.
Aaaahh.... the memories flooding back😭, time to open my old cases and visit the old models.😁👍
Awesome, you deserve to get more followers. You have made me laugh on so many occasions and all the videos you have produced are wonderful. Thank you from a former 40k 2nd Edition player.
I've never heard of you guys before but this is an excellent introduction to the channel - pump that nostalgia into my veins!
Loved it. Great models, both of you.
My 500 pt 2nd edition army if i were competing against you guys would be imperial guard. 1x command squad with captain +shotgun and 2x missle launchers 109pts Hellhound 165 pts 1x guard squad with melta gun and hvy bolter 118pts (iirc) and hvy weapon squad 3x autocannon 108pts (iirc)
That is...a lot of bodies--and a vehicle for 500 points.
@@VorpalDerringer hellhound was an unknown monster anti marine tank in 2nd Ed. Keep it in reservere race onto the battle field on your own first turn at fast speed no roll to hit with the inferno cannon hey flamer template plus add the distance of the artilary dice 0 2 4 6 8 or 10 inches more. S6 vs T4 marines mean 2+ wound and -4 save modifier meant melted marines with no armour save. Best one hit was some guy who frog marched his tactical squad up the field en mass and one shot took 8 of them out!
I can't wait to see this game ! Tahank you very much for bringing 2nd edition back to life !!
Oldschool! Can't wait for part 2.
Thank you SO MUCH for spreading the word on MicroSol/MicroSet. I see so many people complain about decals who just use tap water. Both Duncan and Midwinter Minis just use water and it's like... WHY. Why not just use a product that removes all the hassle and results in a clean finish every time?
0:09 I hope they have licenses for those explosive devices.
I'm way too late for this to be helpful, but Snipe's Warband paint scheme matches a World Eaters Successor called Angron's Fury. They normally use the World Eaters Icon, but they're Chaos.
This brings back some memories!
Loving the return of the Snipe & Wib play opening music! Great vid. Can’t wait for the game.
Amazing work. Can’t wait to see your game.
Congratulations on the 40k subs and great paint jobs on all the miniatures. Looking forward to the next part 🙂
So much love for this! Thank you. I cannot wait for the next instalkment!
Water Transfer + Micro Set + Micro Sol + Varnish = perfection
Nothing better than waking up to a new episode of snipe and wib!
I just want to say that it's good to (finally ;) see a close-up of a mini' painted by Snipe..!
Love the minis. Wonderful work. Best missile launcher variant too.
This is amazing, thanks you guys!
Oh I've been waiting for this, can't wait to see what you guys do with it!
Oh I’m so excited to see how this’ll play!!
I think if the marines get first turn they'll have a good chance. I've done a few 2nd ed videos on my channel, battle reps coming soon!
So stoked for part 2!
Excited to see the game, your paintwork is also fantastic.
This series has me pumped!
That ever-present red-orange colour they slapped on EVERY MODEL back then... jabs me hard in the Nostalgia...
Love the explanation for the Deathwatch pauldron. Definitely planned from the first minute. No other possible explanation :D
And that Ultramarine force gave me an insane hit of nostalgia. Thanks for that :)
Congratulations on the 40k subs :)
i cant wait to see some more of you guys' exellent content
Thank you for this awesome content, 2nd Ed is close to my heart!
I haven't watched any battle report videos, but this one I'll watch. I even wait for it! I'm currently building a few small, 1000 point armies for me and my oldest gaming friend to start playing 2nd edition again, and this made me remember how few models could be used in smaller games. Thanks a bunch :)
Can't wait to see how this goes but slightly shocked you only hit 40k subs recently you deserve so much more subs as your content is amazing!!
Now this is the kind of thing I want to see
Ah what a fun idea! And both these armies look great!
The old skool power fist on the captain was solid 😂
Nice, I'm looking forward to this.
2e was gonzo and so much fun!
Perfect use of the Front Mission music!
Those tac marines are giving me a right nostalgia trip. If only those bolters were the old style!
Oooo this is so cool. I'm super excited to see this!
Oh wow this is incredibly cool! Can’t wait to see the next installment.
Very nice. Love the paint jobs and the idea of a skirmish game.
Clearly the best edition.
Congrats, excited for 2nd edition!
Guys, please keep doing what you're doing, you both are amazing.
Yes! i've wanted something like this for ages
As soon as you mentioned that the Chaos force had mark of Khorne I think I cletched up as I remember just how sodding difficult Mark of Khorne Terminators were back in 2nd.
Also, love all the old photos. The one with the 3 Carnifexes was at the time seen as a 'Wow 3 Carnifexes, the enemy are toast!' Now it is more a standard everyday Tyranid force. I miss that awe they used to have.
This brings me back a bit! :)
Massive fan of this.
Looking forward to the next video.
Wow these squads are beautifully painted, great job guys :)
Wish you fun with experiencing the outstanding durability of 2nd Edition Terminators. It made so much sense to put any important character into one of those relic armours.
Such nice looking armies. I cannot wait!
Very nice! Thanks!!
Oh my god your armies look amazing you two! Great job! I'm really excited for the coffee table to once more become a battlefield.
I found the channel about a month ago after a recommendation on Arbitor Ian's channel. So glad to have done so, you guys do top work. Congrats on 40K subs
I love the look of that Chaos Lord! I hope if you ever make a bigger army for them, she gets to stay and lead it
Imagine the gods sending their warriors to fight to the death on a random imperial planet and to the gods they're just looking at a coffee table with miniatures.
Brilliant! I played 2nd Edition when it was out, and this is stirring memories. I can’t wait to see the actual game.
I think if the marines get first turn they'll have a good chance. I've done a few 2nd ed videos on my channel, battle reps coming soon!
Ah, Second Edition - back where Warhammer 40,000 all began! For me, at least... I can still remember getting the boxed game for Christmas back in 1996, and my first White Dwarf (issue 206) a few months later...
Looking forward to seeing your game. I got into the hobby just before 2nd edition came out so it was the edition that got me hooked and I have a lot of fond memories of it :)
Suddenly on Saturday morning, I’m 13 again!
Thank you for the memories
Those terminators look beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Love this idea!
Hell yeah! These look great
Very excited for this ... I may make my friends do this soon!
Love that edition. That was where it all started for me. I am planning to do small 2nd ed army myself... someday.
I think if the marines get first turn they'll have a good chance. I've done a few 2nd ed videos on my channel, battle reps coming soon!
This is such a great idea
I got into the hobby at the time of 3rd Edition, so this is really cool to see since I never tried it myself!
Such a good idea for a video!! Would love to see more editions played in future
