Hei! Doing leatherwork as a full time job here. Nice work! Only one thing to add - you forgot to deal with the edges. The cut edges on leather are where some dirt and moisture can get into the leather pores - making the leather weaker over time until it starts to fall apart eventually. If nothing better is available - use water and/or beeswax and rub it into the edged with a wooden stick or even use the handle of your knife.
I just made one of these. I used a piece of leather that was given to me at a shoe shop in Positano, Italy, when I was there on vacation a few years back. It turned out really nice. I rubbed beeswax into the raw edges. Thanks for the tutorial!
Great instructional video Dan. I had seen this video quite a while back but have revisited it again recently as I'm in the process of "attempting" to make a few axe masks and knife sheaths. Thank you so much.
Nice axe sheath. I'm a beginner in leather work and looking for some ideas, so your video was very helpful since an axe sheath is on my short list of projects. Thanks!
Awesome. Seems like a very easy project! Even more awesome that you saved yourself some major bucks because of how much leather workers would charge for that custom work!
I'm new at leatherwork and need to do this for my Viking head long beard ax. I bought some leather and snaps and rivets and eyelets and now I'm looking at pattern ideas and ways to do it.
@@stacyhazelwood4033 I went to Michael's and picked up a pack of each of snaps, rivets, and eyelets. Rivets and snaps come in two sizes and they are together in one package. You can also get a one-pound package of scrap leather to practice with.
Awesome video Dan! I am just getting into leather craft and wondering what tools do you recommend to begin with? I have a leather punch, but that is about it.
I have no leather skills and no leather tools. I want to make this exact sheath. Is there a place you can point me or could you put together a set of links that if we purchased everything we would have the tools and materials to make it? Yes, I would like to make more than one as I have several axes (Dad's, my Grandpa's, mine) and a hatchet. I would really like to do this. Thank you.
I like that leather. What kind is this considered. New to leatherwork and doesn’t appear to be the normal veg tan. Thanks for the great clip, nice mask!
Good video. Great job. On the Axe sheath. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.

Or better yet, use a piece of bone as your burnishing tool.
I dont know how, but I always become disoriented trying to make these based off YT videos. Except when I followed this video, I nailed it. Thank you!

One of the best videos on this subject! Thanks for sharing

Great tutorial!! Thanks! I have a couple axes and a hawk to make sheaths for.
Very nice! I just had an old axe given to me, so I'll be making a sheath using your method. Thanks!

Where would you recommend picking up some cheap scraps for a first-timer to mess up a couple runs?

Do you have a link to the size of snaps, and rivets for thick leather like that? I am confused on the different sizes available. Thanks.

There's a deer hiding in that tree behind you!

Right on!
Hey Dan, I am just getting into leather crafting. What kind of rivets & snaps are you using? Where can they be found? Thanks brother.
well done
Where do you recommend buying the exact tools for making your Complex Axe Sheath? Thank you for taking the time!................

How thick should the leather be for the hatchet?
What material did he use for the welt?
Deer legs in those trees?
Yes for 2 upcoming vids
