    Well I was in a big guild who sold carries to their own guildies (kinda rude that in itself), I bought a very expensive carry during an auction they had, then had to wait days before they were "ready and had time" to carry me through a veteran dungeon for a skin that required a lot of vet achievements like no death and speed. And no I never got the skin or my money back, and when I complained they kicked me. They claimed I was late showing up at the 8pm agreed on time, meanwhile I was there since 4pm and they didn't show till 8:15 and I had to ask them if we were going to do it or not for group to actually be made. They demanded I join their discord chat for me to find out I was muted and they just wanted to scream at me directions on how to avoid mobs and never tell me anything about the bosses. I was in healer role and I'm a healer, yet they screamed at me to do "nothing, no heals, they don't need heals" well as I was about to die since they let boss jump on me while I tried to avoid it, I healed myself and them to keep us all alive on the first boss in the dungeon. Next boss one of them died not once but twice...he continued to die on every boss and admitted he was on wrong toon for run. I didn't die. So we had to run it again, didn't get no death or speed for that matter. Next run they screamed it was my fault and they didn't want me healing. So I didn't and they let me die...twice...bosses that jumped at me. Then said they had to go and it was my fault for being late. When I complained in guild chat of this experience and didn't get the skin I paid for and that group couldn't carry, I was kicked out. They didn't want the other guildies to know they were just stealing carry money.
    Never tried to buy another carry ever again. That was only time I tried it. That was over a million gold lost on lying carriers. Back when 1 million in game was harder to get (yes many years ago).
    Moral lesson learned, any shady guild people selling carries to their own guild members are not good people. Good guildies help their guild members get those achievements without paying for it. At least if you are ripped off by fake carriers it shouldn't be people who were supposed to be your friend and guildmate and who should help support you....which is what guildies should be. Not accepting new members to hype carries to them n when they pay and its not delivered then kicking. So yes there are big guilds who sell carries and lie about it and try to blame the buyers for why they can't carry and they never refund the money (over 400 members in that guild at that time, but I think they split apart due to liars who couldn't trust each other having infighting).

    • @Arttea
      @Arttea  2 роки тому +5

      Oh wow, I'm really sorry to hear that that happened to you. I've auctioned off a few gear carries on my own guild's discord server (the guild officers run arena content for the buyer and then the buyer swings by at the very end to receive all of the gear) as a means to fund our guild trader, but we have always followed through with the run and the buyer has always received what they paid for. That's really sad that your guildies did that to you though, and that sounds more in line with the argument that some of my community members suggested - that these carries can be a means to exploit players. You should also have the option to run content with your guild for free; that's too bad that you had to pay for such a bad experience :/
      As is the case with my guild, I participate in these gear carries myself, and the guild has a fairly reputable standing I'd say, so I think guildies can rest assured that I won't scam them of a million gold and destroy the entire reputation of my guild and UA-cam career as a result of it ;p I guess some words of advice then would be to ensure that you are purchasing carries through reputable discord servers/communities. I have linked a handful of them in the description of this video.

    • @bookmagic9641
      @bookmagic9641 2 роки тому

      @@Arttea I can understand a guild wanting to get money for their traders with this method, but I still see it as exploiting their guild members if the guild advertises itself for new members by saying it does dungeon/trial content without saying that content is for pay only. And to charge millions to guildies same as it would charge outsiders is also not good, guildies should get discounts at least. In all while yes you may uphold your end of the bargain, I learned from my experience a "guild" who wants to "profit" off its "members" even if for good reasons to "benefit" said "members" has an atmosphere of "nothing for free or no help for free" mentality that I just do not agree with at all. I see guilds as a group of people who should want to help each other succeed without demanding large times of farming for gold or grinding for gear or proving dps parses in order to give that help. Yes having the best of intentions (as in getting the funds for a great location trader) can seem to be the best for the members in the end, but to me a wrong doesn't make a right....and many do see it that way.
      Again I see the paying for a carry only wrong if it is a guild doing it to its members. If the carries are really worth those amounts, then charge people outside the guild those amounts and give it for free to your members. That would be a double benefit for your members, free carries and good trader. I see the carries within a guild doubly harsh in not only asking members to pay for what should be offered freely to help because they are a member, but because being in that guild means that member has 1 less guild to be a member of that might do those runs freely....if not in that guild that member might of joined a better helpful guild that gives those runs freely. In otherwords it is limiting those members in finding more helpful free playing guilds while advertising expensive runs to people who may see it as more time lost if they left the guild to find another guild to do runs freely.....basically advertising services to a goldfish bowl of limited choice options that some members may see it as.
      I am not picking on you or your guild or your methods. I do see carries as a adult transaction between players. I have an old computer, farther from the eso na server location and weaving can be hard when game doesn't recognise all button clicks or do them which can lower dps parse and limit what I can play in this game. If I had to get a group to carry me through such hard content I would feel like I owed them, but I would hate feeling that way towards a fellow guildie since I myself wouldn't charge that guildie if I helped them in the game. If the content is behind a million gold or more carry gate, then I just choose to never do it now, I have decided that is content made so hard that the game creators do not want me to ever be able to do it (since i will never pay for it again).

    • @Arttea
      @Arttea  2 роки тому +2

      @@bookmagic9641 Oh yeah, no worries, I don't get the impression that you are picking on me! And yes, luring players into a guild under the pretense that they may be able to partake in endgame content, when in reality, those guildies have to PAY for content is absolutely not cool. I see no issue in offering a carry service just in case there ARE players that are interested in just paying for something like a loot run, where they don't have to actually participate in the content. I know that endgame pvers do that all the time with arenas! But to trick players? To have no other option but to pay to be able to run content? That's not very kind at all.
      To clarify, our guildies run content with one another for free all the time :) But we have presented the option of a carry as an "auction lot" from time to time. Players don't have to bid on it if they don't want to. A similar notion is present with carry servers/communities - people don't need to buy carries if they don't want to. This unfortunately isn't the case in the scenario that you presented with your guild though, and I truly am sorry to hear that that happened. Players should always have the choice to decide whether or not they'd like to buy a carry, and should never feel as if paying for a carry is the only option.

    • @bookmagic9641
      @bookmagic9641 2 роки тому

      @@Arttea Yes giving the carries as an auction option isn't bad, in fact some members may see it as helping the guild with a donation at the same time as getting an easy carry n rewards.
      The guild I was in claimed we could do runs ourselves, but the good players only did it if paid, half the team that "tried to carry me" wasn't even in that guild, they were part of some other endgame content guild who demanded all pay upfront, mainly since the guild i was in was a trader guild and didnt have enough "godly" players to run most things itself.
      The worse part was I had been a member of that guild for over a year, and the guild leader had only recently made some deal with that other endgame content guild to do these carry run auctions. When I complained about it being a botched run, it was doubly worse to find myself immediately just kicked by the guild leader who only listened to those bad carry runners who claimed it was all my fault (which 2 seconds of thought should say, you ran it with the member 2 times and the skin wasn't gotten but its her fault because she showed up late?....doesn't make sense if you can really carry a person through to get said skin since it was ran 2 times by their own admission...their excuse wasn't even that I was getting in their way in the run!....and yet the guild leader who had enjoyed my donations and help for over a year decided I needed to be kicked for saying that team couldn't carry me when they didn't).

    I think it's an age/maturity issue. When i was younger i was able to dedicate more time on the games i played. I sold carries in other MMO's. Now i'm older and i play games far more casually so I was blissfully unaware of the controversies in ESO. There are even some dlc dungeons and even entire zones i've yet to set foot in, i'm that casual. So i have no idea what titles, gears etc. that i'm supposed to be impressed with. I've yet to see anything in the game worn by another player that made me feel envy. If that ever happens, and i find out acquiring that item would require more effort or dedication than i'm prepared to give to a game, I will live content without it. Or, since i sell crowns (cuz more money than time), i will buy what i want, either via gold or carries. Some people, like me, just don't have time to 'git gud'. If someone wants to look down on me because i don't measure up in an online game, i can live with it. It's impossible to shame someone like me that has a massive peni... er, portfolio. :D Wait, what was i saying about being mature? So yeah, everyone needs to remember we're talking about pixels on a screen. So just chill.

    I am always broke, and will never be able to buy one lol.
    I loved hearing all the opinions on this, I personally don't see a problem with it. In the end the only way it will every negatively impacts anyone is if they choose to let it get to them.
    I'll use myself as an example, I am no slouch when it comes to doing trials and dungeons and love learning and running them. Heck I solo almost all of my vet dungeon runs when I really need a moster helm or something, but as a father of four kids and with work I find it hard to get the time to attain that level of skill. I would gladly pay to have a carry so that I could goof off with some of the special personalities and skins. Not everyone can invest that amount of time.
    I couldn't imagine shunning someone just because of that, nor would I brag about "doing it the right way". In a game a complex as ESO any way can be the right way.
    in any case that's my weird take on it lol, great video as always! :)

    • @Arttea
      @Arttea  2 роки тому +4

      Prior to making this video, this concept was actually one that I hadn't considered! Some people simply don't have enough time to be able to spend hours every week for weeks on end progging content. Does that mean that they should be unable to receive a nice skin or title? Or access to gear that they need for a PVP build let's say? These are certainly very good and thought-provoking points.
      So I don't think your take is weird at all, as it seems to be one that is echoed by many other players in the community!

    I understand why people buy/sell carries personally I wouldn’t buy a carry it’s not that there is anything wrong with it but I enjoy the satisfaction of getting the skins through my own work and participation. I don’t see a reason for it to be controversial if that’s how you get your bags then so be it nothing wrong with it

    • @Arttea
      @Arttea  2 роки тому +1

      I feel the same way. I *love* the feeling of satisfaction that I get when I finally complete difficult content or am rewarded with a nice skin or what have you. While I think it's too bad that some players may be robbing themselves of that feeling, it's ultimately none of my business how others decide to get clears/achievements/rewards etc. However, some players do make interesting arguments concerning the repercussions of buying carries - such as the possibility that a player may lie and say they've completed content in order to get into a raid/prog, when in reality, they haven't, and now that inexperienced player may weight the prog group down. I do think that these kinds of predicaments are highly situational though; I don't know how often something like that would happen. It's an interesting topic to consider for sure.

    On the ethics of "high" prices for carries consider the following. Suppose you ask someone you don't know (not a friend) to help you with yardwork for a half-hour/hour (or any similar chore: dog walk, clean, etc.), does it make sense to offer to throw them at least minimum wage? If no, do you even leave tips for housekeepers and waiters? If yes, under current US minimum wages, Crown/USD, and Gold/Crown carry prices are close and often below min wage. One possible exception is highly skilled groups doing hard to do hardmode/trifecta achieves. Those probably should pay more than min wage as it is arguably skilled labor.
    To the points on carries are cheating in some sense: I've gotten probably 100s of carries for titles and gear using my social capital. Is that cheating? What percent of players have truly never received or given a carry? It's likely less than 1% if we exclude players with less than say 100 hours. It's arguably more honest to pay for them instead of mooching if you can't or don't plan to pay it back or forward. I pay back/forward a lot, but if I feel I can't (maybe next trial for gear), I will definitely pay in Gold (ie USD). Carries are common whether paid for in gold or not.
    Some people don't have strong social networks in ESO. Some people prefer to grind in the RL (USD) instead of grinding in the virtual world (items/Gold). I think some of the opposition comes from those that choose not to do any of the above as they can be cutoff from carries and many group experiences/achievements.
    I've noticed that there are a lot of commentors here that seem to not have access for whatever reason but are ok with carries nonetheless; they seem to point out that people have different situations and goals. IMO that's a mature position.
    Something I noticed: the anti-carry for gold focus seems to be 90% on titles/skins but in my experience 90% of carries for gold are done to save time grinding for gear.

    I don't see anything wrong with people buying trial runs. For a person to be carried through a trial, it requires 11 people to do the hardest content in the game down a dps because the buyer is just standing there. Like you already stated, there are several reasons a person may want to buy a trial run (in order to get gear, a title, a skin, etc.) that they will never otherwise be able to get. My husband has completed all the trial content in the game and has every title. His team raids 4 nights a week for 2 hours. It is a huge commitment. It just isn't feasible to think that every player has the interest or time to play end game content. If a person wants to pay others who raid in exchange for something that makes the game more enjoyable for them to play, I just don't see the issue. It is a game after all and a person should be able to play it how they want, as long as they're not negatively affecting another player's ability to enjoy the game.

    Progging trials/trifectas COSTS a lot of gold. I think in my time doing raids i have spend almost 30 million doing just progression raids; buying pots upgrading gear etc. The rewards for completing trials often don't even weigh up to the cost of potions, even when you clear the trial every time.
    Thus, i think selling carries as a way to get gold in order to play your own progression raids since raiding costs more money than it yields is pretty fair. You invested a lot of time to get good in something, why not monitise it? It makes both parties happy. Just like people that can play the market well or farm really well can sell their services.
    I used to be "against" carries, when I was a newer player but that was because some players buy them and then flaunt their skill when they, in reality, had nothing to back it up with. But as one gets more and more into high end content, it starts to make sense. Besides a lot of players are carried for free anyway in the game so I see no reason to be against it now.
    Personally I have never, and will probably never buy a carry. As I enjoy progressing veteran trials and imrpoving my performance.

    Hey Professor!
    I saw when you made this post on the server and I completely did not think of exp runs!
    I have given and carried for countless exp runs (skyreach or nBRP), both free and paid for. I think that it is important to go through each content once a more legitimate way (if possible in their situation), and it is for that reason that I will refuse to give exp carries to people who have not made it to CP on any toons yet. I think that it is important to experience that as organically as possible, and the thought of people new to the game getting carried to 160 cp kinda rubs me the wrong way. That being said, if you have done the content, or you are like me and don't wanna spam random normals leveling your 14th toon, carries are fine in my eyes.

    • @Arttea
      @Arttea  2 роки тому

      Totally agree with you. When I first reached CP, a friend of mine offered to quickly boost me to CP 160 by grinding skyreach. Another friend of mine told me to refuse the offer - to take the time to learn the game and not rush myself; the ESO endgame wasn't going anywhere, so I had all the time in the world. I'm glad that I listened to that friend and refused the carry. I constantly hear from other players that they wish they had taken their time as well and enjoyed the smaller things that ESO has to offer and/or better understood more about the game before delving into the PvE endgame

    the main thing that concerns me is that the prices are often too high, not because content is difficult but because the gold is sold for real world money. selling gold for real world money destroys the in game economy(which ruins the rest of the communities game experience) and is also against the terms of service.

    • @Arttea

      I keep hearing these theories about how carry sellers sell their gold for real world money, but I’ve never seen any proof of it. From what I gather, all of the people that sell carries for gold that are a part of legitimate carry servers use that gold to continue to fund their gaming experience - buying expensive potions for their score pushes, materials to buy and upgrade their meta gear every patch etc.

      @@Arttea Great vids. I did see several vids from you about turning gold into crowns and things like that. And you have so many vids about how to get gold. My first question is, WHAT do you do with all that gold, I have just played the game for 7 years and have 12-20 million gold for 5 years now (buying anything I want)? Do you really think carry sellers can't convert their gold into crowns to get real money?
      Guilds should be there to TEACH/HELP players get that stuff, even occasionally 'carry' them. Then have members VOLUTARILY give gold and stuff. Once you start REQUIRING payments and having servers and middle men and people making carrying into a side business/full time job (which as you explain IS THE CASE for years now) it has gone way too far.
      I actually can see NO difference between having someone log on to your account and do something FOR you and someone carrying you while you hide in the corner. When I first started 7+ years ago, people were happy to help each other do even DIFFUCULT stuff, now everyone expects to be PAID. Really bad for the game and hopefully ZOS puts a stop to it.
      BTW the real elephant in the room is how unbalanced a game is that there are people who can SOLO a Vet DLC hard mode that 4 people have no hope of doing. That shows the power creep is off the charts and the boss mechanics aren't sufficient.

I think if you do a lot of content, like pvp, or pugging dungeons or trials, you may eventually be blessed with some good luck and stumble upon a gamer or a group that could take you in and play ESO with you more regularly. Maybe you could look to join another more social guild? I have the impression that there are a lot of them out there that are quite active! If you're on PC NA even you are welcome to join my guild :) You can access the guild through the discord server!

    I’ve never purchased a carry, but it’s something I might do in the future if I like a skin or title or other reward enough. I’m an active member of a few guilds and I’m steadily approaching 1000cp, but my timezone, work and uni schedules mean that it’s almost impossible for me to join up with groups, unless I want to get up at 4am, and no; that’s never going to happen for a game. I also suffer from the oceanic server (or lack thereof) ping issues, mixed with mediocre home internet. Animation cancelling is just not an option for me. I always worry that I’m the weak link in PUG groups, and so they make me slightly anxious, which doesn’t make for an enjoyable experience. Because of those issues, I don’t LIKE running dungeons, and I only do them begrudgingly whenever I need some more transmute crystals or keys.
    Should I ever purchase a carry, the rewards would be for me - I don’t care about bragging, and I’ve never run past another character and stopped in awe over their “XYZ dungeon defeater” title. I personally wouldn’t know an achievement skin from a crown store skin. For me, it would all just be about making one of my characters look super cool for my own silly sense of immersion.

    Awesome commentary on all sides of the issue! We personally fall close to your opinions. We've been in the game since launch. People have life commitments and cannot do trials, but still love the game and carries are the only way for them. Even if totally competent in their role(s).
    My main is Stam, but after 4yrs w/out being able to get in consistent, capable groups I had to start mag so as not to be a detriment to the team (mainly due to the difficulty having buffs for Stam and Mag comps).
    Also, progs can take months and you lose gold every hour while doing them. Whether on pots used or just lost farm time, so GMs or officers trying to earn guild monies may not be able to stay in one.
    IMO, the only thing you really lose buying carries is the comeraderie you get from growing and suffering with your team.

    i stopped playing ESO not long after the the chapter with Sunspire came out and i farmed absolutely everything from all content at that point with multiple characters with my guilds, back then i looked down on people selling runs and achievements etc...
    Now i just returned a few days ago and I'm just chilling playing through all the new DLC + chapters right now and I'm thinking about buying some runs for the "new" trials that i missed.
    not because i'm not capable because i know for a fact i can, when VSS and VCR was new i found them pretty easy tbh and we beat them early. It's the fact that when you join trial guilds they generally keep farming the same trials all the time and the fact you have to play on a schedule is exhausting. the guilds i was in had a few raid groups too that they expected you to work your way through the ranks... which is easy but very time consuming, it's not as if you can do one after another on the same day because they generally have just a couple of raid nights a week and only for 2 hours maybe for progression runs, farm runs or to do some score runs on leaderboards.
    It's not really fun when you have to keep farming the same thing when you already have everything you need because you cant just be like "hey, i want to farm this for for X item now" because you need your guild to run it.
    So these days i would say if you don't mind paying, go for it.

    I do carry runs by myself and I enjoy that a lot. For me it is more than just making gold. It is experience that you can compare to the real life work. First - you study the content on your own, unlock the achievements and when you get good enough to do it for other people, you make money for the living. I don't have much time due to the real life work, so carries is nice and interesting way to earn the money and buy what you want without spending hours of gameplay, grinding things you want, like recepies, motifs and other stuff. Also, thank to the carries, I have found some nice and good players, amoung the runners, so we can gather other time to play together and do something that we all need. It's kinda sad, that some people hate carry runs and trashtalk in zone chat. If you don't like it - don't buy it. Simple enough. But this type of people are just envious. They can't buy it and they can't carry it.

    I love pvp in all the games i play and ever since reaching level 50 (played a lot casually when it first came out and focused on the wrong thing so i didnt hit level 50...) I haven't been able to do much in pvp. Since then I've gotten to level 220 ish and have gotten myself some okay dungeon sets but I'm still only able to do decent damage to players 500 or below. Everyone else tanks everything and is able to kill me quite quickly. So, I can see myself paying for an exp carry or something if i get enough gold so i can get my CP up and get my stats looking a little better. Trying to learn and find what works for me, setup and gear wise but with CP level alone I would totally pay gold to get more to stand a chance. Especially since most of the people I play against ranges from 1500-2100... Also, I'm more of a competitive casual player who doesn't have the time to invest into the game. I'm playing a couple hours a day (maybe) and I feel like I'm playing too much because of all of my responsibilities. Once my kids are in bed, I get on for as long as i can.

    I don't have a problem with it, to be honest. I raided quite a bit up until the fall after the Elsweyr expansion came out, and then our raid team kinda fell apart for different reasons. I also stepped back from the game and basically logged in to do writs or list stuff. Up to that point we had cleared all previous HM with the exception of Cloudrest, which we were progging at the time. I have been itching to get back into raiding now that I am a WFH/Stay-at-home Dad in his forties. Yeah, I have given thought to paying for a CR+3 clear and may a Kynes clear (mainly for gear). I find myself nervous about trying to join a new guild that likely has already progged shit like Cloudrest or the newer trials (or just will be dissapointed that I do not have stuff like RO for my healer, ect). So yeah, it has crossed my mind pretty seriously, and given me perspective that I lacked before (before all my friends left, sadface). It's your gold, do what you want with it. That said, I earned my emp titles on multiple toons, I was not carried. Boo to emp carries.

    • @Arttea
      @Arttea  2 роки тому

      Selling carries has been a thing for a long time! As far as what people are buying with their gold, the value of everything has steadily increased over time; from crowns to in-game items, everything is more expensive than when you last played. Players that have continued to partake in gold earning activities that require trading (either goods or services) will be largely unaffected by these price increases. Those that do not or have not will be negatively affected. Most people use their excess of gold to purchase crown store items like homes, mounts, and crown crates. You can also use your gold to buy up valuable consumables to help you excel in pvp and pve content, just to name a few examples.

      I have no experience with carry runs in ESO, used to sell M+ and Raid carries in WoW tho. People who had little trust had to show in the trade window that they do have the gold (don't know if that works the same in ESO, but in WoW you couldn't put more in the trade window to show than you had on you) and then they paid 60% upfront AFTER they have been invited to the carry run. So with all the carrying players present. The other 40% were collected before the final Boss got killed for our safety that they don't just quit with only 60% payment.
      It is very unlikly that some scammer just invites 18 other people (WoW raids are 20 man) or 10 in ESOs case just to grab money and then vanish. Most people just paid upfront weeks in advance tho because we had them on regular schedule.

    As of yet, I haven't purchased a carry. Not sure if I ever will. In a good prog group, we're at vAS+1 right now, having struggles, but getting better, did a vHR speed run 2 nights ago, ready to work on vHR HM, ... got most of the vTrial basic modes completed, some we can do cleanly others are more of a struggle and couple like Rock Grove we haven't gotten through the whole thing yet, but we'll get there as we improve every time. This is the way I personally want to achieve it. And yeah, I know great players that have paid for it and are humble about it, and I've seen crap players in PUG groups who while CP1600+ I wouldn't want to play with in a normal trial. Let me clarify that, doesn't listen, stands in stupid, brags about their Sunspire Ice-Fire skin then after he activated HM on vHR (we were not planning on HM) and kept blowing up the team because he kept synergizing called us all a bunch of losers and rage quit.

    We’ve all been new and inadvertently earned something because someone else had to carry us through a dungeon or WB early on. Sometimes it’s the little things like achievements or cosmetics that keep new players or even midgamers interested long enough to make it to endgame to be able to be able to do it without a carry. I don’t think this is much different than buying any other item or service on any game.
    Even if someone is being carried, they are learning-mechanics, fighting strategies. There will always be people that just want to sit & not try because “I paid them so I’m not helping” which I think cheats themselves of learning a lot. I personally wouldn’t feel like I truly “cleared” on a carry because I’m a grinder & personal achievement hunter so I get a satisfaction from truly being able to do it myself or be a vital contributing part of the whole.

Even though I've never really used a paid carry myself I like the idea of it being available... the ones doing the carrying need to put a lot of time into honing their skills so why not be rewarded for it. The ones paying for it, well personally it doesn't bother me why they do it since a carry isn't cheap but I can understand the issue with it for prog groups. Ultimately everyone plays for different reasons so having a different way to get a skin or color you really want I think is a good thing. I really like how you went with this video !

    I find getting into raiding extremely difficult, stressful and otherwise inaccessible in this game, and it mostly comes down to the lack of a party finder system. Coming from FFXIV I think having a party listing broadcasted through the entire datacenter that clearly states the intent and prog point makes it really easy for people to just spontaneously hop in end game content with people of a similar skillset and expectations.
    From my experience in ESO, for prog, blind or not (and god I love blind prog), you're limited to guild discords, and then you need to sign up days beforehand, as someone with GAD it gives me plenty of time to put a ton of pressure on myself until I inevitably get physically sick when the time comes... Even though I know I'm probably very capable. (I actually got sick when trying vFG1 for the first time lmao even though on XIV I wiped my ass with Ultimates. It's silly.)
    I guess that with my very personal issues in mind, until endgame content actually gets grouping systems that makes it more accessible, I'm not blaming anyone for buying clears.

    Hey hey :) I do carry runs aswell with 2 of my friends and we are not part of a "big" carry guild so we do our advertisement ourselfs when we have nothing to do or need some money .... For us its ofc easy money but also super satisfying to know we can clear hard content with an "incomplete" group. And i can tell the amount of spitefull whispers me and my friends got is astonishing ... We are greedy ... taking advantage of newer and weaker players etc etc or the most common one that we are chinese guys earning real life money by trading the ingame gold for currency. Just be nice to each other.

    I'm a fairly new player, only got the game on Christmas and have only about 370 hours in the game buuuuut... I do get the "earning the right way" argument. If something is locked behind some difficult endeavour and is meant to be kind of like a badge of honour, then yeah, I get the point that someone paying for the reward is kind of cheapening the achievement.
    But on the other hand two points: it's just a game. If I can help someone get something they want in the game I have no issues with that. If you can live with it I have no issues with it.
    And the other point would be that to get the gold you have to do a lot of things, many many things not everyone is willing to do. And humans have a tendency to cooperate and to exchange goods and services against money. MMOs are more than just single player video games and since humans interact, there will be many agreements between people that the developer may have not intended. That's just how it goes.
    I, personally, would not be buying carries because I like to do things myself and if I can't get something I can live without, and since the last hundred hours I have gone off the deep end with crafting I have neglected my own combat skills so I could not offer carry to anyone. But if you want to pay for a carry so you can concentrate on things in the game you enjoy, go for it. And if you want to carry others because that (or the resulting gold) makes you happy, go for it. It's a game. Games are meant to be fun. Play it the way that makes you happy. (As long as you don't outright cheat in multiplayer games. That stuff sucks. So no hacking to get the items or anything. Use any in-game mechanic available but don't go past it.)

    You sound a bit like Emma Stone and are a delight to listen too.
    As far as carries are concerned I feel like it's fine, I've never had a paid carry but have filled many a dps spot and been largely carried by guildmates and to be honest, that's my style, I want the camaraderie and to bask in the hard-fought achievement alongside friends, I don't think paid carries are wrong, heck I might start making a little gold on the side as a seller but I think it does devalue things a little.

    I have people behind my back or make snide comments in discord saying I was "high key" carried after progging with a group for a year for a HMs and or trifectas. In our group we all feel like we earned it. No one was put down and no one in our group would say anyone was "carried" we all struggled together and got better together.
    Basically learn as much about the content as you can and try to perfect all aspects of it, but really there is no "right" way. I am not against carries I've done some to get gear and skins for others. When you pay for a carry sometimes you are paying for something that some others have put much time into to perfect.
    No one should care if you want a carry imo but it's definitely not the same as putting in time and effort as a group to reach a goal. So many fun times you could miss out on and friendships when you find a group of nice people who want to accomplish a similar goal.
    soulfaye and popcatholic I think would be more around my view.

    I have been playing for 3 years and have a soc night blade, I have been squishy and have changed Armor and skills on great players advice nothing has helped! But yet, new people are doing better than me in group content. I have had numerous problems with glitches and had to put in tickets constantly. I have even upgraded to ps5 same issues. It's almost like my eso program is hacked.

    Honestly I can see a valid reason for emperor. It’s tied to an actual console achievement for the game, and not everyone can be a sweat lord unkillable tank in pvp. Plus I mean it’a something that will take maybe longer than a god slayer prog can with a great team as you’re going against something tougher than bs mechanics... bs players.

  • @djmuscleboy029

    A lot of people in end game raiding only play to raid. Raiding consistently and pushing score/titles is very expensive and you gain very little back of what you spend. Unless you're constantly clearing the trial you'll almost rarely get back more than 15-20k a night after resets and can be spending easily over 200k on heroism potions. Perhaps if raids were more rewarding, carrys would be sold less frequently. Undaunted plunder is simply not enough.

    I don't get how a game can put up a cash shop then tell the players they can't have one. The virtual world should be like the real world. If I buy a ford... I can sell that Ford later... Ford can't get me for copy write inringement or say I'm only 'borrowing' my copy of a Ford.
    So it's even wilder if it's controversial to sell carries for the official gold currency. Or even against TOS.
    As gamers we should honestly gather together to make these changes to the law itself.
