    My main is a tank and I started playing ESO as tank, which meant all my first dungeon experiences was as a tank. Running a DLC dungeon for the first time as tank will earn you a lot of scorn and abuse from people who already know the mechanics and have farmed it over and over. Always specced 100% into tanking tho and never faked my role. Now I know every dungeon and do my best to help new players, especially for the vet hard modes. But that's after almost 3 years now of playing, and taking a lot of abuse when I first started out.

    On PC EU I've joined a guild called "Story Mode" that has strict rules about dungeons so as to allow a full team to run dungeons at a pace that allows everyone to do the quests and enjoy the story. If the group members have all done the quest for a particular dungeon, we divert to "Chill Mode" instead where we all just take our time and wait for each other in the dungeon to find all the loot, explore and clear all rooms at an enjoyable pace instead of speed running dungeons just to get to the end. It's really a breath of fresh air, and it's a shame that the great stories and quests tied to dungeons just get skipped or sped through.
    It also kinda forces you to actually communicate with your group, and it makes you feel like you're playing together, rather than all just individually doing a job as fast as you can.

    Surprisingly, I’ve had some of the best, most wholesome dungeon runs during this Undaunted event. Lots of laughs with randoms. Lots of deaths due to unknown mechs. Epic confusion in Frostvault with the mechanical mice. I’ve also had some amazing tanks as well - my favourite was the one chap who introduced himself as our tank for the dungeon and went on to give information. It was like being on a tour with a side of mass goblin murder. I loved it.
    Of course, it’s not all wonderfully pleasant, but it hasn’t been as horrible as I was expecting.
    I think my biggest peeve is when people don’t wait for everyone to be loaded in before running off ahead. I don’t mind speed-running dungeons. I’m happy to do it if that’s what we all want. Even when I’m doing the quest, I’m not a lore reader. Accept; skip; skip; complete. But for crying out loud, as someone with sub-par net connection (and ok, probably too many add-ons), let everyone load in properly before you start speed-running off. Trying to play catch-up while on a character with a standard sprint speed is already annoying enough. But when you’re left running through the aggroed mobs throwing down traps and shooting you in the back with arrows? It’s a nightmare, and I end up using half my resources to sprint and CC immunity myself and then tumble into the first boss fight completely unprepared.

  • @Hrafnskald
    @Hrafnskald Рік тому +16

    On the speed running complaint-it's totally understandable if some want to speed run. The problem for many of us when this happens is we load into a dungeon, and right away all the monsters are forming a pack growing larger immediately behind the lead runner. As soon as we try to catch up, they all aggro on our character at once. Anyone who wasn't in the initial clump of runners gets instakilled. This is worse with dungeons like Blackheart Haven, with tons of ranged monsters who will focus-fire on whoever is the slowest if the party doesn't stay together (running or not).
    One solution would be a Run Ready Check: someone messages in Group "Are you ready to race for the final boss?". Party confirms, everyone's good.

      @@Arttea the problem with this is that often people start to run immediately upon zoning in and making a plan doesn't exist. Everyone has different zone load times and those who come in a few seconds slower get pounded with all of the agro. The only solution is for everyone to wait just a handful of seconds longer to make sure everyone is ready ... but that would rely on people playing with a modicum of respect for others.

    • @Valeryu_Minka
      @Valeryu_Minka Рік тому +2

      Yes!! This is what I just commented on. I'm more than happy to race through things (time is money!) but at least let us all load in properly first. It's only going to add 10 seconds or so to the start of the speed-run, but it's going to save time later. These people don't seem to realize that a DPS arriving at a boss fight not actually ready to DPS (because they've been getting shot in the back the whole way there, and popped pots to keep them going, and is still playing resource catch-up) is going to slow things down even more.

      I've tanked and done 20% of dps in tank gear with tank skills. In decent 4 player groups, healers and tanks should account for around 5% of the dps so there were some people not pulling their weight and most likely not optimizing their builds to do their job so I would call that a fake dps.

    I main a healer, but when I'm doing randoms I find myself out dpsing the dps more often than not AND tanking. At this point my standards for pugs are so low that if the tank has a taunt and the dps use abilities, it's a good random. I kind of wish there was a ranking system like for bgs where queue can prioritize matching you with people with similar experience levels. I know a lot of supports that have gotten burnt out from pugs that take half an hour to clear Tempest. It's not fun when just about every single dungeon, you get stuck with players who have never done content before.
    I do a bunch of mech & story runs in my guild that have a great reception because (most) people want to feel like they're contributing to the team and learning mechs is a great way to do that. I've heard FFXIV has a queue mode for "teaching runs" that I think ESO would benefit greatly if they stole. A lot of the new players I encounter are either scared of group content because they don't know it and don't want to be a burden, or had a bad experience with pugs that didn't want to teach that content. A lot of kore experienced players I know don't want to run content because they're tired of teaching the same dungeons/trials to randoms.
    ESO has very little immediate incentive to teaching new players and I think that's one of the things that causes the greatest skill disparity between casual and end game players, since most of the burden of teaching new players falls on the community.

  • @0xskar

    I used to be a pvp main. One of the vet dungeons I remember doing before getting into PVE big time was ICP about 6 years ago where I ran into some players who I noticed were just burning through bosses significantly faster than I have seen before. So I asked them how my DPS was, they said not great. Instead of getting upset - I looked into ways on how to improve my DPS by looking online and asking people.
    Now that I am a pretty alright DPS and have pretty much all of the trial and dungeon trifectas in the game when I try to help others, the majority of them who ask for help, they seem to be unable to take any advice they are given. Some people in MMO's just like life I feel are unable to be helped or maybe you have to put in an insane amount of effort in order to help them that maybe it's not worth it?
    Even though I have a lot of really good friends in this game who are S Teir PvE, I would rather pug vet dlc dungeons on a tank to help players learn mechanics. The problem with this is that 50% of the time you are queued with players who honestly are just hoping for a free carry and want to put in minimal effort or not learn simple game mechanics and will get upset the minute you try to help them, they really have no business even being in vet DLCs and probably would have a hard time with base vet dungeons if not being carried.
    Honestly I have no problem helping people who are willing through a 20 minute Kjalnar fight in Unhallowed grave, resurrecting the entire team 10 times, as long as they are learning, but these players usually are outputting ~20% of the total DPS they should actually be doing in the dungeon and stand in the red AOEs and they are queued up for DLC vet dungeons and are oblivious to how they are performing, they have zero awareness. I can't help these people even if I wanted to.

    • @dredgendorchadas6770
      @dredgendorchadas6770 Рік тому +1

      This problem isn't unique to ESO, it's in all games. It's one of the reasons why simple "easy" games are so popular (such as COD, battlefield, and such games) the players don't want to hear what they're doing wrong and just want to get all the "good" stuff. It's so bad that some people can make money off of account recoveries!
      That being said, someone who does take the advice, even if they implement it wrong or are still getting stuff wrong, are the players who you want near you. Those players are the ones who will get better, don't give up on them because only then will they give up.

    I would definitely agree that finding a guild with the same interests is probably the best way to go in terms of wanting to get through content. I say probably because (and this is only on the psn side of the game) I've joined countless different guilds that have specific mentalities when it comes to running group content (veteran especially), and at least 50% of them (even some who were just fun made guilds) had a click of people who catered towards meta-related topics, such as having a class, skill, and gear set up to join this and that, already having knowledge on this and that without needing help, and etc. You could just go find a new guild, but who's to say other guilds aren't like that; only one way to find out really? Point is that joining guilds to find like-minded individuals most likely works out best in the long run, but may eventually backfire the more you realize that the guild you joined may be full of secretive toxicity. Other than that, I mainly play as a tank (an actual tank) mostly to deal with the issue of "fake tanking" (a dungeon goes a lot smoother when you actually have someone who can manage to stay put while everyone focuses the taunted target(s) down and knows how to survive while doing so). I also do prefer to have a healer in groups as it really helps out survivability and relieves a lot of stress for the tank and dps, but sometimes I get backlash for having that sort of mentality in my groups verses a group who runs 3 dps and 1 tank. Funny thing is that they are doing Stone Garden HM without a healer and are wiping constantly because they're so focused on meta, but my group with a healer manages to get the full clear (all HM's with the speed run and a few deaths on the last boss). I'm not against the term "meta" by mean when it comes to finishing content, but if someone wants to get jealous of me not doing stuff the intended / "meta" way, then that's where I'd draw the line there. I play the game my way and I (and my groups) have done just as good as someone (and their groups) who follows meta. Anyways, been loving your content. Keep up the amazing work as always, and for anyone who reads this, I hope you all have a good day.

    Thank you for making this video. I played Vanilla on PS4 back in the day and was very active before the Tamriel One update. After they changed Vet 16 to CP160 a lot of things changed, a lot for the better. But as someone who WAS the dungeon runner for my guild, I was deeps/heals back then and have always loved the slash roles since. I am forever trying to do more GROUP oriented things. I was CC and AoE damage and heals with my original Sorc. I had a Wood Elf Nightblade that was magicka heals. Lol.
    Once I started leaning into classes and started doing more Vet content I started getting more and more into the harder content and getting better gear.
    Then I lost interest...
    I recently started back up and fell in love with the Necro class. I made another Deeps/healer character and loved him so much I made a healer tank.
    On both Necros I provide so much group function it's insane. My healer has more deeps than most randoms, so if we're just taking down trash mobs I can clear the room and use the bodies to keep my team up. But deeps get mad I'm out deepsing them at heals and they leave. If I'm tank healing the group on Vet content the healer gets mad and quits. I've had deeps mad that tank isn't doing more deeps and asked me why I have group heals in my "kit".
    I've joined Vet content as tank with an Oakensoul build queued as Healer calling me trash cuz we wiped on the first boss cuz he queued as heals with one mediocre burst heal.
    Frequently even on Normal the deeps can't stand I am trying to keep the healer and other deeps alive before they can race me to the boss, skipping all the chests and heavy sacks in the dungeon.
    Even when I go to random Vet content the supposed HEALER runs off and grabs aggro and is mad at the tank for not speed running.
    If you're on Sony that wants good heals and good tank, lmk!

    I remember the first time I did a dungeon on ESO. Eso was my first mmorpg so I had no clue how to actually do the roles, I kinda figured you just queued up as the role you wanted and it’d work out lol. I had queued up as a 2h tank with no taunt, because I didn’t even know what “taunting” was 😅

    Thanks for putting this out there. My few experiences with random groups have generally been good, but I can't say that it's an aspect of the game that I'm particularly thrilled with. That's more about the way I like to play than any gripes about the dungeon finder system, though.

    I dont play it so I'm sure someone can explain it better than me, but I know FF14 dungeons have like a leaf icon next to a players name if it's their first time in the dungeon to let players know they're likely watching cutscenes and dont know mechanics. Would love that for ESO. I fake healer whenever I do RNDs but if people say theyre new I'll pop up armory and swap, would love to be able to tell who's new at a glance.

    I love guild runs, especially for pledges because some vet are very eazy. I usually tank, heal and dps with templar and rest of group is dps. When you understand boss meh everything becomes easy mode. For random que I always use my tank and sometimes is very frustrating. Like when low level players playing something they are not ready, or totally ignoring meh, or run in front of me and making chaos for me with adds..and even worse is when you trying to explain someone boss meh in dlc content and than he just leave group. Public groups are worse, best to play in prime time so you actually have chances to find good groups.

    I'm one that dislikes the fake role experience, but not overly worried as long as they don't make me work harder as a healer to keep them alive due to their lack of ability to fake it. My favorite is when the fake tank hits a DLC and gives the "Oh shit, I don't know why I'm marked as a tank" comment and leaves. I recently did a vMOS run with a fake tank - we died lots, but I stuck it out with the guys cause they really wanted to clear it.
    You were right, if you want to avoid that situation, run with friends if you can. :)

    I recommend any player to communicate their intentions at the start of the dungeons.
    Most speedrunners and solo-artists will slow down their pace and scout the area for treasure chests. DLC-content is different though. I can understand the tendency to tilt, simply because of how long it can take to queue up for these. They are best approached with discipline.

    I have a completely different mindset from those mentioned in this video. If I’m going slowly in a dungeon, or trying to complete a quest, that’s my problem. I’m not going to tell people to slow down, I need to keep up. Match the pace of the group, and if you can’t, it’s on you.

    All those points i find valid. TBH, treat others as you would like to be treated. With respect and patience.
    I queued for my first pug after your feedbak discussion video. I only did it because, you know, event tickets....
    The healer ran off like they were alone. The tank, well idk what the heck they were doing. The other DD and i did most of the work in cleaning up after the healer.
    I play every day.
    I am a member of a guild and we've been running organised dungeon and trial events regularly for maybe the last 4 to 5 months. The groiup have been so, so good in helping me and even running some of their events at a time i can make it to (they are in Europe, I'm in Australia). With their support i've been able to branch into healing and now tanking, but i am yet to experience all the dungeon and trial content, so don't feel confident in taking my healer or tank into a pug.
    Update 35 messed with some of my builds to a degree that made me feel like just not logging in anymore. However on discussion via discord, i was given some suggestions from more experienced players which helped. I still take a little longer to kill enemies, and my sustain/squishiness still needs work - but i think those are things almost all players are adapting to.
    I recently joined another guild, mainly to be able to trade, but several of them seem really nice too - so who knows what will happen!
    If i stay away from pugs, my only other grumble is about some of the language in zone chat - oh and players running in and stealing chests that i was clearly running to (you know, those sneaky buggers who go invisible and suddenly appear).
    PVP zones are something i'm only beginning to understand - so i'll leave my grumbles from there alone for now.

    I just got back into ESO after a year and a half absence due to me having to budget and not able to afford ESO+ anymore. Now that I'm back, I do see why I loved it so much. What mind-numbing repetition it is that just makes me feel content. Rejoined my old trading guild and I'm making money, hand over fist.
    But wow, the amount of fake roles I've seen. Not even new players. I've been around since beta and I can still tell the difference between who is a newbie learning the ropes and who is just a highly skilled yet arrogant vet. I've run into fake roles before, but they were rare. I've been actually actively tracking my times and getting a ratio down, but I'm sitting close to a 72% of the dungeons I've been queuing up in to have a fake role (more data needed). If it's an easy enough base dungeon, okay, I might stick around if this player doesn't run too far ahead. But if they're half way across the map before I even get a chance to load in, I'm not sticking around.
    I honestly prefer to play with newbies who don't know what they're doing over some self-inflated ego. I'm very patient and I have fun showing players the ropes. I like to give them advice, maybe craft some gear for them for free, and just let them know there's players out there who do respect their time and want them to have fun.
    My expectations for PUGs are low and they're simply just thus: You que with random people, show a little respect for them. They're also people, all with their own stories and problems. Stick together and try to support one another as best you can. You don't have to be great or amazing, just do your best to show that little bit of respect.

Of course we ended up with a mechanics heavy, extremely long dlc dungeon. The other DPS and healer were together, he was a glass cannon and she only healed him, I didn't know the mechanics and I spent more time trying to keep myself and my friend healed, instead of tanking. The glass cannon DPS ranted at us about his great DPS numbers and our bad performance. We only wiped once at the final boss, before I was able to realize the problem, but after that it was months before I would consider queuing for the daily random as a tank. I still primarily run dungeons with a small group of close friends.

    I have had issues with running double frost staff because people who don’t tank think you have to have sword and shield. Also I have many times tried off meta sets like azureblight or other random damage sets and I even have some tank builds that out damage most dps and I get called a fake tank a lot even though I’m not. People don’t realize how little health and resistance you need as a tank, the most important thing is sustain and block mitigation. Ofc, this is an exaggeration, I'd be amazed if it was possible to tank efficiently like this lmao, but ya get the point ;p It amazes me that people care so much about the methodologies of other players, especially when there isn't an issue present. However, I've always had disappointed experiences with the Dungeon Finder in game. At CP960 I sometimes will solo the easier base game normal dungeons with my companions if I need mats or things to sell.
    This video, and the in game undaunted event, inspired me to try the dungeon queue. After about 20min in queue on NA servers I get a group for Vet Eden Hollow II. The group gets to the first room, everyone's health bars are good, no issues with the CP1700+ tank holding aggro, but halfway through clearing that first room, someone says "DPS seems low" and leaves group. We finish clearing the room no issues with only 3 and a companion. The tank asks if we should look for another, but the healer leaves, so then the tank does as well.
    So 20min waiting and 10min of group play for about 10g and a couple rubedo leather. Will I try this again anytime soon? No thanks.

Reducing the number of people required from 4 to 2., since the game hasnt really been updated for the addition of companions. Other thing I think the Dungeon finder should be split up into base game normal, base game vet, DLC normal, DLC vet, so you can choose the "difficulty" level of your random....aka if I am gonna "fake tank" then I queue up for base normal only.... where as properly formed team could queue up for other options.

    I'd like to add that for some people it's not just the not wanting to engage with other individuals or joining a guild. I found some pretty fun and kind hearted people in my current guild, but they are all like CP 2k something and for me personally just asking to run a dungeon so I can farm like a set is huge as I'm really bad at asking for help in general, but I feel like I just waste everyones time if I fail mechanics, which I will, because I avoid every harder challenge out of fear to piss people off. And well, the dungeon finder is a no go as well for anything vet or dlc related as I just am not capable enough. The base game regular dungeons are okay, I've duoed them actually with just a DD and me as a heal. So yeah, I'm kinda struggeling haha

    Great video as always. I couldn't agree more with the discouragement part. My first ever time in battlegrounds, I didn't even know what it was, near the end I was called a c*nt by each member of my team and then they proceeded to report me after for "being bad" and recently, I was criticised by metaheads for not using Relequen+Whorl+Harpooner's on all of my characters. It's only a game, let the angry people be angry and enjoy it the way you want to. As for PUGs, as Deltias has said, the best fix for fake tanking is to add a new method of getting transmute crystals or a separate queue, but if you are gonna fake tank I'd say this;
    1) If there are new players in the group (or even veterans) ask first if they have quests or if they don't mind speedrunning/skipping trash and minibosses, we've all done this in Fungal Grotto ;)
    2) If you are a fake tank and the group is struggling slot Inner Rage + a shield ability if you can
    3) As a vet player try to help people if you see them making mistakes rather than just running ahead, like with mechanics etc. Something I see newer players struggle with when there is no tank, is movement. Of course it's only natural to run away when you see a giant flesh atronach bolt towards you, but a lot of the time you'll end up too far from the healer and die and sometimes lead the boss so far that it resets the fight. Generally, it's best to stay as close to the healer as possible and dodge/block when you see a big attack coming (if you are on PC there are addons that make this a breeze).

The only thought i get is “this boss is taking longer than usual” people that have time to write mean stuff during a dungeon baffles me, imagine how silly that person looks typing while playing controller on console 🤣

    Thank you for this video, I was one of those who stated how bad my experience was with Pug dungeons being more like speedruns then trying to enjoy the content in said dungeon. I have joined guilds like you suggested. My issue with them is they either require you pay them or w/e it is or require you to log in before a certain number of days pass. Which I totally understand needing to make space for others to join so kicking the people you think aren't coming back anytime soon or at all makes sense.
    I understand its pugs its randoms you can't control what type of group you are going to get. Its just kind of heartbreaking to get excited to do a dungeon for the first time but then its just another speedrun and that first experience is taken away and ruined. Another MMO I play FF14 has this issue as well not to the extreme ESO does. Even then though you will see wall to wall pulls and hell depending on the dungeon. first pull all the way to the first boss which is many many many many twists and turns and lot of enemies. Which if you are a sprout (A new player with a sprout icon next to their name indicating they are a new player though that can also appear next to a Veterans name if they make a new character) Can ruin that first time experience as well.
    One way FF14 is tackling this issue maybe indirectly is by adding solo with ai companions. That way people wanting to play it like a more singleplayer FF experience can do that or to eliminate que times for certain roles who have longer ones like the DPS. It has let me stand around do other things like read notes left by dead adventurers or what have you and learn more about how creepy this dungeon whos theme is happy go lucky but has a dark secret. I understand both games are MMOs but it would be fun none the less. Thank you again for your video and sorry for the paragraphs @.@.

    I’ll stop fake tanking when I can’t solo my random normal daily faster than the group can. If I could get the xp bonus by myself I’d do it alone. I never say anything to anyone but I’m not trying to spend 40 minutes in City of Ash 2 because I queue for a random normal daily and our group dps is 15k. Basically have to choose between sitting in a queue forever or in a dungeon forever.

      This.... When fake tanking and healing I always make sure to have inner rage / a group heal to fullfil the most basic role jobs, and being experienced I can keep myself alive without any kind of help, but don't expect me to come with my true tank and then eat the keyboard out of frustration when the group has 15k dps despite me running golded meta gear and correctly maintaining all the buffs and debuffs....
      I do wait for peeps who have the quest and I never run ahead, link all my gear at the end, but I don't take kindly to people still complaining about me faking.

    I've been playing LOTRO for over 10 years now, but am fairly new to ESO (3 months, CP 740 at the moment). My primary goal to play in most MMOs is PvP followed by sweaty raiding to get the best gear. This comes from the fact that LOTRO was really my first ever MMO experience (we didn't have many MMOs back in the day). Geting Legendary grade (gold) gear in LOTRO meant you had to run the same raid/dungeon, on the hardest difficulty, over and over and over, sometimes hundreds of times.
    I know EXACTLY what you mean. In LOTRO, depending on the server you play, it's either the majority are RP players / casuals (Landroval in US and Laurelin in EU), where it is an absolute pleasure to use the LFG chats, to sweaty servers full of arseholes that will absolutely destroy you in chat if they think you're subpar (Brandywine has been the most toxic by far).
    Other than that, I have had a mostly positive experience in ESO. A big part of it was my friend who had some experience and actually got me playing the game. Another part is watching Lucky Ghost's content and following his build advice / trying to understand the logic behind the builds.
    I strongly agree with all the advice you've provided. I can also add that as a new player in any MMO, you can also avoid banter towards yourself by watching content creators such as yourself and trying to understand what's going on.
    Hit me up if you're ever on US Landroval in LOTRO, I can give you some tips on how to make the most fun out of LOTRO as a casual player / quester. I'll be joining your Discord shortly.

      Ahhh I've been playing on Arkenstone (NA)! Been keeping to myself when I play (unless I'm playing with a friend) but my experiences have been nice so far! I think the most annoying thing that I've run into so far is being spammed by what would be called a "memento" in ESO (not sure what they are called in LOTRO), wherein another player can affect your player with some kind of emote. I was participating in the recent Summer festival in Bywater and was getting absolutely spammed with stink bombs and something that would make my character fall asleep by this one player They were following me around everywhere so I just called it for the day and decided to log in to partake in the festivities at a later time haha. It has happened to be a few other times when I've played but it's not that big of a deal, just kinda goofy ;p

    I fake tank on content that doesn't require a tank, example is nfg1(normal fungal grotto 1). But normally on most vet content i wouldn't suggest it. Depends on what vet content it is and I may queue as a healer as a dps but only when I can throw out a solid heal. Example of this is as a sorc with twilight matriarch. It all varies and depends on what kind of healing will be required but normally I like 3 dps and 1 tank.

    So please please say a word. I don't wanna be mean, but if I just wanna grab the daily reward I don't have the time to get into everybodys brain to maybe figure out if someone wants to go slow.

    My biggest problem is finding a good group to play with, as someone who is happy being an "intermediate" player. I don't enjoy chasing meta or grinding. I join "casual" guilds and am met with "must attain 60k+ DPS to participate" so the trials and veteran dungeons I can't duo with my partner are locked out. We aren't exactly total scrubs either, we can duo portions of Trials and over half the vet dungeons, I run with a magDK wearing Grothdarr, A Mother's Sorrow, and Law of Julianos. When we tried public queuing, every time we'd end up with people who wanted to sprint through the content we were playing for the first time. If we asked to slow down, we'd either get attitude or they'd just drop.
    So I guess, my question is, what's the best way to find a guild that's actually chill and wants to run content with players who are experiencing the stories for the first time?

    • @Arttea
      @Arttea  Рік тому +2

      Unfortunately, not every guild is going to feel like "home", and finding that "home" in ESO may take you some time. I've gone through my fair share of guilds in my 4 years of playing; some of those guilds had really unpleasant people in them or even unkind guild masters that imposed these kinds of ridiculous rules and requirements (for me, it was that I wasn't allowed to attend trials because I played a stamDPS). I would encourage you to continue seeking out that home by reading some of the guild descriptions in the guild finder (and applying to ones that resonate with you) or asking around among your groups of friends to see if they have any recommendations. What you have shared with me is more than enough damage to be able to comfortably complete vet dungeons. ESO U's (linked in description) "project vitality" initiative may also not be a bad idea if you are keen to get into raiding but are struggling to find a raiding community that will accept you. Don't be discouraged if it takes you a bit of time, but there really are great communities out there!

    I'm a main tank with some DPS toons and a healer toon. I generally have a mostly positive experience on PC NA personally with most pugs with only a few outliers. My usual mindset in pugs though is that by doing it, I pretty much agree that I'm okay with whatever kind of player I'm getting, be it inexperienced, speedrunners, relaxed, irl responsibilities, etc. If I want a specific experience I'll search for people for that experience, namely when I want to try content for the first time with exploration and learning from nothing in mind.
    I do remember that among my negative experiences though were from when I was an inexperienced tank. I'd occasionally get some pretty rough berating for not tankin properly, it has ruined Moonhunter Keep forever for me when I had just unlocked DLC dungeons and was going through them for the first time, even if by today's standards I can run it on normal as casually as I would a base game dungeon. But I've also seen some people throw mud the other way around too for fake roling even if everything went fine (heck last night we ended up in a 4 DPS moongrave fane and it got absolutely shredded to bits).
    As far as I'm concerned, I dont have an issue with a fake tank when I play my DPS so long as we get through content, or a speedrunner, I'll just run along and get a quicker clear than usual. My only problem really comes when the person behind the screen is just being awful to others for any reason it may be. At the end of the day everyone is just human. Some fake tanks are still confident content can be cleared, some others may feel bad when they realize things aren't going smooth as they thought. Inexperienced players maybe just want a bit of advice. Some speedrunners maybe only have a limited amount of time per day. Attacking other players doesn't clear content.

    Haha, I fake tanked during this entire event, haven't had a complaint yet. 100K+ DPS on Normal Run, typically means things don't live long enough to kill anyone in the group. And I am slotting inner rage to taunt the bosses and stuff on me. I can keep myself alive and I pull the heat off of any noobs. I think I died once during the entire event so far. FWIW, I'm only doing this once per day to get my tickets, and I'm not fake tanking after that one run. I'll run with guildies when the ask for it, but queue as DPS (unless asked to.) And I'm not fake tanking in a vet dungeon.

    Because I play since release I was never in the position of being "a new player" in a dungeon. So most of my random runs were fine and in the rare event that someone was being toxic towards an unexperienced player I was able to defend them.
    I also noticed that people judge others by their CP-level, saying stuff like "will be hard with that low CP" and so on. And then they themselves play like potato.
    Worst that happened to me: queued up for a random vet dungeon, got a DLC dungeon I did not know yet (which I mentioned at the start) and then had the tank die at a boss, insulting the party and then rage quit. 😅

      Ah yeah I've definitely run into peeps that have snubbed players on account of their CP. I think the argument could be made that having more CP can make certain dungeon scenarios easier to manage, especially defensive CP, but players shouldn't be judged by CP at all or have opportunities revoked because of it. If you've played long enough you'll know that CP doesn't indicate skill

I find ESO to be very unfriendly as with 5 guilds I think people have very little investment in the guild or it's members. Cliques abound and public shaming in guild chat are also problems. Perhaps social commentary is a good direction for your kind and generous overall approach . Best
