In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov will share with you an absolutely winning chess opening for White, the Tennison Gambit. It begins with either the Reti Opening (1.Nf3 d5 2.e4) or the Scandinavian Defense (1.e4 d5 2.Nf3). The opening was named after Otto Mandrup Tennison (1834-1909) who was the first person to significantly research this opening.
You will learn the hidden attacking line that most chess players are unaware of. GM Igor Smirnov also shows you how the most common responses and natural-looking moves for Black are losing.

Garry Kasparov. He is the legend of chess of all times. Still so good after so many years.
Gary should have become President of Russia.
He is a champion of Human Rights as well.
.
Favorite player, after GM Igor Smirnov, must be Mikhal Tal. He is probably the one that made me see chess as something that is fun, and he truly illustrated the concept of focusing on active pieces instead of total pieces.
When I first heard of chess it was a movie called searching for Bobby fisher. Since then it sparked a new found love for chess. Pretty much self taught with only one thing in mind which is protecting the king. As years went by I learned little by little. Fast forward to now I’ve been watching your videos learning each time I watch. So thank you for sharing your knowledge of the game to everyone that’s willing to learn.
My favorite player is Leonid Stein, the guy was just insane with his dynamic ideas middle game, with a lot of positional sacs. Still believe his ideas were ahead of his time, shame he left us so early 😔
Keep up the great content Igor!
All time favourite, Garry Kasparov. That game with Topalov in 1999 Wijk aan Zee still amazes me.
This has become my favorite chess channel. Thank you for the good content.
My favourite player is Robert Huebner, long forgotten by most chessplayers by now. But he did not take a back seat to Magnus when it comes to originality. Some of his games, while not necessarily spectacular, were mindblowing with respect to the ideas informing some of his plans.
OK, I'm curious. I'll go look up his games. Thanks for the suggestion!
Me Smirnov! Your videos are always a delight to watch. I saw many new lines in the ICBM Tennison Gambit. Just loved it thoroughly. Keep the good work up. Huge supporter and admirer of the channel. Always on my suggestion list to friends who wanna learn substantial stuff in chess
Thank you for your very detailed explanation of the Tennison gambit with many of its pitfalls and traps. My chess club meets tomorrow Saturday and I can’t wait to play this gambit.
My favorite player of all-time is Mikhail Tal. He complicates everything and that's what special about him. The real magician
Hi, great video, thanks! I’m playing this gambit for quite a while in blitz games. Unfortunately I have to admit that only a few players fall of the trap.
My favorite chess player is Mihail Tal, the Latvian magician. I love his combinations!
I grew up in the '50's and '60's so I am very much a Bobby Fisher fan. My brother would get what we now call a "news letter" showing all the moves he made. When Spasky took Bobby's rook and Bobby just moved his pawn so Spasky could not escape, my bother almost went "Orbital!"
Love your content, makes learning the game more approachable and enjoyable and of course fun!
From what I have seen I really like GM Hikaru!
My favourite player of all time is hands down Mikhail Tal, infact he is the reason I started to love chess so much, before I knew chess but did not enjoy it much but after seeing Mikhail Tal's game I was like he is the man I want to become like, aggressive gameplay, great tactical sacrifice. Loved the watch him play with my second favourite player Robert James Fischer aka Bobby Fischer. They were just treat to watch.
My favorite chess player is Garry Kasparov. Being ranked number 1 in the world for a total of over 250 months is absolutely incredible!
Gary should have become President of Russia.
He is a champion of Human Rights as well.
José Raúl Capablanca y Graupera was the third World Champion, reigning from 1921 until 1927. Renowned for the simplicity of his play, his legendary endgame prowess, accuracy, and the speed of his play, he earned the nickname of the "Human Chess Machine".
Capablanca‘s style also heavily influenced the styles of later World Champions Botvinnik, Robert James Fischer and Anatoly Karpov. Botvinnik observed that Alekhine had received much schooling from Capablanca in positional play, before their fight for the world title made them bitter enemies. While not a theoretician as such, he wrote several books including A Primer of Chess, Chess Fundamentals and My Chess Career.
Capablanca was truly fantastic individual on many levels.
I learned humility in Chess...
“You may learn much more from a game you lose than from a game you win. You will have to lose hundreds of games before becoming a good player.”
Chess became my real life passion because of Capablanca inspiration.
And thanks to GM Igor Smirnov I' learning to understand deeper Capablanca's heritage!
My favourite chess is "Bobby Fischer." I watched his a lots of games regarding King indian defense, the Ruy Lopez and many more.
I do appreciate how thorough you are with your explanations
Glad you like them!
A very interesting gambit! My favorite player all-time is Robert J. Fischer. Thanks for this video!
Paul Morphy, for being so far ahead of everything at his time. Great attacking style!
A true champion!

My favorite chess player is (Grand Master) Hikaru Nakamura.
Bobby Fischer !
Hi Igor, nice video again. Already liked it. As always it is explained in a very clear way. My favorite player is Michael Tal, especially for his attacking playing style. Please keep on making this kind of quality video's. It´s so much better then the videos from all these new chess streamers posting on UA-cam. Regards, Marc
Thank you very much!
Awesome to see your doing a giveaway!
My favourite chess player was my Grandpa, the man who got me into the game. I would love the opportunity to keep learning and hope I can be my son's favourite chess player.
If the choice was for my favourite known chess player I would choose Magnus. Truly We are watching history and amazing chess right before our eyes.
My favourite player is Tigran petrosian sir He plays amazing chess He is a master of positional chess and he rarely losses and my another favourite player is Vishy Anand sir he inspired many players to play chess in india ad i love how he plays so fast and makes the correct moves and those amazing tactics
Favorite player? I was born in the 1950s, so Bobby Fischer all the way. During his world championship run I was vacationing with my family in the parks of the western U.S. and I insisted on going into town after match days to get a newspaper with the game score. Brought a set along, of course, to play through the game. It was a great time to be alive and be a chessplayer (or, as I still am, a patzer). The match captured the attention of the entire nation, and participation in the game soared.
I never once occured a position where I had to use the tennisons gambit to its maximum as shown in this video (they usually transpose into something else before I can develop the attacking ideas) until today. Thank you Igor for allowing another successful win.
Great Lesson about Tennison Gambit. Thank You, Master!
My favourite chess player of all time is Viswanathan Anand
or Vishy ❤️ , he is an super grandmaster, and he is my inspiration :-)
Of course my favorite Chess player is GM Igor Smirnov and I also love the breaking stereotypes series!
My favourite chess player is IM Levy Rozman. He made me bring back to chess after a 10 year break. And obviously GM Igor Smrinov for his detailed explanation of every video.
I would have to say that Bobby Fischer is my favorite. Thanks for the lessons!
Paul Morphy. I loved the way he attacked. Not sure how well his style would hold up in today's chess world, but something about his style captivates my chess brain.
My favourite player is Garry Kasparov
My favorite is Rashid Nezhmetdinov, but got to give love to my other favorites Anatoly Karpov, and Alexei Shirov. Also, thanks for this lesson. This is a fun gambit to play!
Thanks for sharing!
When I was young I enjoyed the games of Paul morphy. I used to read a lot but that was back when we had English notation which I still prefer because well it's better. Thanks for the great videos!
My favorite player of all time is Garry Kasparov. I simply love his elegant way of play. I always study his games from the database. I enjoy studying your courses it really built my interest in chess and got the thirst to improve my game.
For me my favorite is mikhail tal i am blown away by his games especiallt when i was just starting chess i knew how complicated it was and from there i learned so his pretty much my inspiration for chess and the fact that I've never in my life acquired a chess book
I’m still relatively new to chess so I don’t know many of the historic players. My favorite player is Daniel Naroditsky. The way he explains the game so simply makes it easier to understand for a beginner like me.
Another great video Igor - thank you
Sir. I love you very much for sharing your teaching. Your pronunciation is also very good. No problem to be understood them as an Indian.
My favourite chess player is Jose Capablanca because of his iconic positional play and his style of concluding the game with a brilliant tactic.
Wow! Tennison gambit is very good. I think I will play it more often. Thanks Igor
I have been subscribed because of your great content and style.
"Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen", for the fact he has shown he can pull victory out of the jaws of defeat on numerous occasions...which is the opposite of what I do many times.
Thank you. 🖐😎
My favourite player is Bobby Fischer. It was his 1972 World Championship tournament against
Boris Spassky that got me interested in Chess in the first place. I followed his games after I had learnt enough to understand chess and I was amazed at the simplicity of play but tactically ingenuous moves that quickly got the opponent in a bind. Capablanca is certainly my second favourite player of all time!
Great content….even at 71 can enjoy the lines. Two greatest players for me…Kasparov…a legend…and larjos Portisch who I played a game with many years ago…yes I lost but he had the good grace to spend time with me showing where I went wrong…I add he was playing 25 others at the same time!
Thanks for all the hard work. Fischer is my favorite player.
I enjoyed the video I'm definitely going to be playing the Tennison gambit. My favorite chess player is Gary Kasparov his calculations are out of this world 🗺️😊
My favourite is GM Igor. Thanks to your videos which is improving my games
Wilhelm List from Chess friends online is my favourite player...I love the way he thinks and handles any situation that's thrown at him...Awesome chess player !!!
My favorite is mikhail tal. Love watching the games and seeing how plays are made!
Bobby Fischer: Not the longest reigning World Champion but amazingly creative and at times, unorthodox. Don't forget his undefeated run at the 1963 US World Championship.
My favorite player is GM Igor Smirnov because of his amazing videos of teaching chess, the videos helped me improve so much. Thank you for that!
Glad you like them!
My favorite player was Paul Morphy. Very innovative and ahead of his time!
My favourite Chess player is IM Eric Rosen and also I like GM Igor Smirnov because of the same reason: the (first) play and ( the second) teach chess for the mayority of us: the normal people (from 0 to 2000 elo).Thank you very much for your videos.
My favourite chess player is IGOR SMIRNOV, he is the only teacher i ever had and he motivates me to put in more effort...
Hello,My name is Ei Shwe Zin Oo and from Myanmar,I am a chess player. There are a lot of chess players that I like most.Among them,I like Hikaru a lot,he is funny,he plays really good in every game and he feels happy for what he is doing and he always smile while he is streaming. Thus why,I would like to become just like him.
My favorite chess player is the late great Bobby Fischer. I watched his match with Spassky in 1972 and have loved playing chess ever since!
My favourite player is Magnus Carlsen, for the way that he simply crushes everyone else seemingly by magic and without any huge risks!
Love your videos...so informative. Thanks!!! My favorite would be Magnus Carlsen. Guy is just a machine.
It is a pleasure to watch and learn from yours video !
My favorite player Jose Raul Capablanca.
Naturally born GM in chess!
Favourite player is Akiba Rubinstein. Awesome endgames as well as ahead of his time with opening ideas.
I have to say you are my favorite chess player because you always do great videos , and you have taught me quickly more through your videos than I could learn just watching games.
Glad to hear it!
My favorite chess player is Capablanca! Thanks for this great video.
GM Alexandra kosteniuk she is my favorite Chess player, I like her style of playing , and I study her games 🙂
So few are the women picked here- but one day a woman will beat all the guys and
her sisters will follow
My favourite player is Anatoly Karpov. I love his playing style. I have studied his classics and I was so impressed with his positional play.
Now i too love positional chess.
Mikhail Tal is my favorite. His play was creatively brilliant.
Great lecture , continue humanity and make strong chest players
Hello my favorite player is you. You are my teacher I learn everything from you. So thank you so much and congrats on 150,000 sub
My favourite player of all time is my brother, who maintains a level just below mine at all times and is beyond satisfying to outwit.
My favourite chess player is GM Aman Hambleton because I'm a casual player who hasn't read up on theory and history, but enjoy the entertainment and music choice of his streams and think he's quite a down to earth guy too
Murphy was one of my favorites. Such a genius and great attacker player
You mean morphy?
My favourite player of all time nomination is Alexander Alekhine. I enjoy playing the Alekhine Gambit - 1. e4,e5 2. Nf3,Nc6 3. d4,ed4 4. c3,dc3 5. Nc3...( or 5. Bc4... ). This gambit has elements of both the Scotch Gambit and the Danish Gambit where I can quietly develop to a point when I can play Qb3 or similar move which on many occasions dashes any hope of Black castling.
My favourite player Anatoly Karpov, love his style.
Judit Polgar and V Akobian! It was great to watch Akobian play blitz in a Glendale cafe a long time ago.
My favourite chess player of all time is and always will be my dad.
are you his son?
Thanks for this gm..i found many moves...to play for many ideas to deffence..and to attact..to win a match
Nicely explain love to see more gambits
My favorite chess player is Wesley So. He is a great chess player and human being. Wesley is kind, honest and humble. I love playing endgame and I think Wesley is one of the best endgame player in chess history. He can outplay anybody in endgame even Magnus who is considered the goat.
I find it strange that almost no one chooses Carlsen. He's definitely my favorite player, Magnus stands on the shoulders of all the past great players and.even brings his own new ideas. Clearly the best player for me.
My favorite player is GM Vishwanathan Anand and this video was completely awesome!!
I appreciate your lessons. Watch almost all of them. They have improved my game by pointing out obvious but often overlooked moves. Thanks. My favorite is a little girl called Pinkamina, I think. She has to be about 8 to 10 years old and is shown on a UA-cam channel of a chess club. Anyway, cheers.
My favorite player would be GM Hikaru Nakamura. I love his entertaining videos and odd chess banter. He's just so fun to watch, he puts the fun in chess for me. My second favourite would be GM Igor Smirnov because of his incredibly detailed and also easy way to explain different gambit, opening lines, traps, and how to respond to different scenarios that arise from each of them.
I am new to chess. My favorite play is Vishy Anand as I love his style of play.. Also I love your channel!
Bobby Fischer, extremely sharp play and love his aggression over the board
Congrats on hitting 150K! 🥳 It's a late birthday present for you. 🎁 Bobby Fischer's 20 game win streak makes him my favorite. But his 'original', haha, respect of Morphy led me to watch all of his games, and now I'm enjoying all of Jose Raul Capablanca. Thanks for the giveaway!! 💥👊🏻♟💥
Nice move..tq for the lesson..
Igor sir. I am a chess player and I like the way you teach and analyze positions. They are really helpful. Can you please share some of your games that you played against GM Gary Kasparov?
No doubt. M.Tal. He has given immense pleasure n remarkable combinations. Just marvelous.
Nice. I was just thinking about what to try against the Scandinavian. Oh, favorite chess player is Capablanca.
Thanks! I love to use this Tennison Gambit! Like Budapest in reverse. I hope to win the pack. I would be happy ha ha!
Congrats with 150k! Favourite player Mr Fisher, who managed to take down Russian domination in chess and played brilliantly without any computer.
