What do you play if the do play 5. Nd4? If you take Nd4: then they follow up with Qh5+ and I have no clue how to play and always loose. Any help would be appreciated
Ive been on the Rousseau train since the beginning Igor. I just checked my Lichess account and it is still my most winning opening so thank you once again for this. For any that want to play this you have to actually learn it.A lot of moves are completely unintuitive and if you don't play them you lose all your advantage.
it's so bad though. on f5 I just play d4 and many just resign... its just people who don't really want to play chess but win with tricks they looked up somewhere. so cheap imo.
I want to say , thank you GM SMIRNOV for your videos , i am the one who following your techniques and improving my chess games , keep going master.. and i want more black defense move to watch , we love you master, from the philippines 🇵🇭👌❤️..
Hello Sir Igor, a big thank you. By the time you uploaded the Rousseau Gambit I immediately used it in my games, and surprisingly worked. This opening really increased my ELO ratings and I surely will use it in my future tournament❤
Thanks for making these videos. I learn a lot from them. In fact I bought your Super Pack during the black Friday promotion. Obviously I haven't gone through it all, but... piece activity! There is so much information for such a low price I think it's going to be the best investment I've ever made into my chess instruction. Thank you for that too and merry Christmas.
This video is awesome Igor! Thank you. I've been pklaying this opening for a while now after watcing your other rousseau gambit videos and love it! How do you feel about the Jaenisch Gambit?
Igor, I love your channel and I've learned a ton from you (you and Danya got me up past 1600,) but I think your logic is somewhat wrong here. Because of you I played the Rousseau Gambit when I was a much lower ELO and I found that people were already playing the best moves by the time I got to about 950-1000 ELO. You often talk about the "most played" moves, but the vast majority of players are not very good and are skewing the data you're using. I still think people can play this gambit, but they should expect that a lot that people will not accept it and will opt for D3/D4 instead. You often teach us how to punish our opponents mistakes, but as chess players get better and better (because of people like you,) it might be helpful to focus more on how to respond to the most challenging lines.
His logic works because he’s showing you the most often played moves. It’s not just 500s doing it. This is what you’re most likely to encounter. The key isn’t to memorize these exact lines but to use them as working knowledge. If I move A then I can expect B which leads to C. Great. Only my opponent called an audible and now I have to switch tactics a bit. You’ve got time to think. Calculate the next 2-3 moves from that position. Can you still make it work? Because a lot of these depend on fork attacks from the knights you can still throw an outside curveball even though they might be expecting a fastball down Broadway. Psychology is a huge factor in chess. It’s knowing how to manipulate your opponent to your advantage.
@@dr.floridamanphd I think this was a great video; he spent over half of it giving us strong responses to white's most challenging moves. I just want to push back on the idea that only the son of Magnus and Wenjun could find D4.
@@scoffingskeptic that’s called hyperbole and was meant for comedic effect. Most people aren’t going to play d4 in that position because they’re not sure how to capitalize on it.
It's like surviving the fried liver: you need to know like 15 computer level moves. 1 mistake and you lose the game. Nobody until about 1200 will even notice the opening, and this is only till 1500. On a side note, playing d3 isn't winning, only a minor advantange, and to keep the advantage they have to play like 10 engine moves (like I said earlier).
If you look at Grandmaster games, about 51% play D4 against the Rousseau. After that D3 is most common. I'm rated 2100 and taking the gambit does automatically look a bit wrong to me. But in the blitz games, a lot of people get greedy . It all depends what TIME CONTROL you're using . If you're playing DAILY chess, then no gambits will ever work because your opponent can just look at opening explorer and it's not even counted as cheating 😂

7:15 the theory I was taught was to play Nf6 first to prevent Qh5+ ideas.. is there a difference between that and the typical Vienna gambit ideas for white?
it is more than possible to defend Qh5+ in this position by responding to the check with ke7. It can feel difficult but black still has a minor advantage as white's bishop is attacked. Black can gain many developing moves with tempo by threatening white's queen over the next few moves
Just a quick question, so I've analysed the rousseau gambit, and eval bar says that after d4 and the following lines, white is winning. I was thinking whether you'd recommend me to play such risky lines in upcoming 15/10 tournaments or go for something more traditional and safe and play for a positional win. Or do I just hope and pray that my 1200-1400 fide rated opponents slip up and I gain an early advantage and convert.
The computer recommends just playing Ke7 after Qh5+. After the bishop moves to either b5 or b3 black will play Nf6 and win a tempo. In this position black is winning due to more piece development
is this aimed at 1000 rated players on Lichess? as an Italian player I was surprised I didn't know this gambit. now looking again I remember that I faced it many times and after f5 automatically played d4 because I play e4 e5 too and as such know to play d5 to counterattack but with white its far far easier to do. the Latvian gambit is a bit more difficult... but in the end its just cheap tricks that will give you easy games on a usually lower level.
As someone who plays the Italian variation (I'm rated 2100 ) this is a variation that is quite challenging and tends to be played by players rated 1500-1900. (That's online ELO)
This line is awesome if your opponent plays poor moves. If they don’t play poorly your left with a monstrous weakness and you’re going to lose castling rights and when your king gets stuck in the center you’re in trouble. If you’re low rated you might have some fun with this. If you’re an intermediate or advanced player just stay away from nonsense like this. I hate these videos that try to teach people “win in 12 moves with this opening!” But when your opponent doesn’t fall for the trick you’re in a dead lost position.
Um yea in the lichess most played moves it's best if you disable until the 1400 level since people below play trash moves and the better moves are played by people above 1400 rating
If you are playing people above 1400 rating, you probably shouldn't play trappy openings as your opponents can usually see every trap. You are way better off learning more solid openings played at higher levels.
at 8:55 why wouldn't White counter by moving Queen to C3? It does two things - A) Forces Black to retreat their Queen to saftey, thus ending the inertia and It reinforces the aggressive pawn whilst gaining some presence for white.
