I'm really glad to see someone discuss these arguments bit by bit because I too really enjoyed the movie when I saw it in the theater and I haven't be able to understand exactly what people mean with these criticisms. For me, it actually seems like a lot of people didn't watch the same movie as I did. I saw the story of a person who is complex and who grows and acts on their regrets, a story informed by the fact that this person is trans and Mexican, but that is not focused on that. If anything, I think this film normalizes trans stories and empathizing with cartel victims. So weird to see so many people think the opposite! Thanks for your video. :)
A large part of the problem with Emilia Perez was the representation of Mexican culture and the replacement of each Mexican main character wirh a non Mexican actor. Obviously, some anti trans people are using that as a reason, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not a reason, and pro trans people are mad about it the same way.
I really didn't love the movie at all for a number of reasons, none of which were because it was about transgender people. For me, its always about story and I really had a hard time with how this story was told. Without going into it, I do appreciate your video. You did a lot of research and I enjoy your positivity. Make more videos! Ill watch all of them! Actually, can you make one on the Substance? I'd be very curious to know what you think of it. Also, I like your neckless!
thanks so much! unfortunately, i’m a bit too afraid to watch the substance. though, i do hope you’re able to appreciate any future movie reviews that i upload!

i, too, am glad to see that someone also saw the movie through the same lens that i did!

Yes! This film would have definitely benefited from more research on Mexican culture, language, and accents.
