Do you know or can you do a break down video of horn blasts I live near the soo locks and hear horn blasts all the time I assume One blast followed by two shorter blasts means starting to move and that’s about it??
One long and two short is a salute. The ships often salute other ships in their own fleet; they salute the supply boat after it's finished loading supplies aboard the freighter; or sometimes they'll blow a salute to the spectators at the locks or along the river.
Mike Schrage ohh that makes sense also I only ever noticed it was a ship was leaving the locks passing another one waiting to come in so it seemed like most likely from coincidence they were honking to acknowledge they were starting to move but makes sense just acknowledging each other passing by also
