it broke my heart to hear you say "thats a wrap on old jakey". i am so relieved and glad you made it out alive, and very brave for how you handled the situation.
wow I never saw that you replied to this!! I definitely think you faced a very possibly deadly situation and handled it with a lot of courage and rationality. If this was me I wouldn’t have been able to think straight! 😭
One time, I thought i was going to die and I accepted it, and, when I accepted it, I thought aw man, this is going to suck... because I knew it was going to be boring and painful. I was surfing and a little kid, and nobody told me about rip tides. Well, I got caught in a bad one, and I didn't know you're supposed to swim sideways, so I just kept swimming to shore. I remember it pulling me out so fast, and I was thinking: what is wrong with me? Like, I've never not been able to stay in the right area before, but, no matter how hard I was paddling, I was being dragged out to sea. I remember the lifeguard that day was TERRIBLE. He was flirting with some girl on the beach, and said he was going to give her a ticket for being too hot. I remember thinking about that as I was sitting on the board, so far out at sea that I could no longer tell where the shore was. There were no waves anymore. My aunt stole the lifeguard's little VROOOM VROOOOOM thingy and came out and saved my life.
Imagine being out at sea, thinking you’re going to die and recording wha you think are your last moments. Miraculously, you survive, and upload your incredible and terrifying experience to UA-cam, only for half of the comments to be “I’m here from chills”
I remember being lost in the ocean, sucks a lot, went water boarding with a friend on his boat and his gf and lost balance, they didn't realize I had slipped a a couple minutes after they realized, and tried to look for me but thought I was too far out, got dark almost 8 at night so I thought no one was gonna find me, kinda just accepted my fate so just talked to myself reminiscing about my life, 5 hours have passed and was finally rescued by my friends gf on rescue boat 10 miles frome shore. Scary day but sometimes when the time comes you just seem to just accept it, but regret things you haven't done lol, glad your okay tho bud
I always come back to this video. Something about the way he just starts to accept his faith so peacefully has always stuck with me. So glad he got saved.
Just saw this on Facebook. Seeing the sun go down made my heart stop. Ever since the movie open water and learning about the scuba divers that didn’t make it... whew! Glad you’re alive mate!
That's fucking horrifying-dusk, in what might as well be the middle of the ocean. You're the man, Jake Childs. This is one of the best videos I've ever seen.
Ah, you're the real MVP. Haha Just me talkin' rubbish to keep myself entertained. Uploaded everything the other day, alot of swearing, talking crap and I think I ended up doing some gear review of stuff because I was running out of ideas.
Nah, you'd be surprised what you can do, handle, and eventually accept in situations like this.... It seems logical that you'd freakout or something, but when you're IN IT, you're not really in THAT sort of headspace.... it's a hard thing to articulate, you pretty much have to experience it yourself (though I hope you don't!!).... Anyway, take solace in the fact that we have a sort of built in instinctual way of handling death.... it won't be as terrifying as you think.... Not for most of us anyway.... besides, reflect honestly on it, literally EVERYTHING goes thru it, and it's been happening like this for millions of years.... You're good, you'll know it when you encounter it, but don't waste ANY time worrying about it, you have nothing to gain by torturing yourself like that (not that you do, just sayin').... :))
@@Simple_Jackass Thanks for this, it's comforting to hear from some who sounds like they've faced almost certain death. Glad you made it out! What was your experience?

The scariest situation to be in and one reason I’ve NEVER been in the ocean… at any second, a GW shark could be swimming up to bite you and you can’t see more than 2-3ft beneath you…. Videos like these are why I continue being land based.

a flashlight with decent power should be a must for cases like these. At night it would be very helpful because it would be much easier to locate someone nearby from an aircraft. The same with the suits, they should be in bright colors to have a similar effect but during the day.

One time i went to bethany beach, DE and I got stuck under a riptide for a straight 5 minutes not being able to breathe at all. I almost died if i didnt get saved by my friend's big brother who was 16 at the time who surfed to me.
At the time, he thought there was no need for a light. It was a daytime dive to 38 meters with only 4 minutes at the wreck and a total dive time of only one hour eliminating the need for a deco stop. Visibility was also max. However, he never even made the dive due to being swept away from the boat by the current. Since then, a flashlight, mirror and GPS with a SOS beacon is part of his kit for every open ocean dive.
