I own the basic version of this pen that I bought used shortly after watching your review of the Koloro.
I wasn't very impressed with the pen at first, as the ink would leak into the threads of the blind cap. It would then... eventually... leak out of the contact point between the blind cap and the main body of the pen any time I unscrewed it to release the shut off valve. I reached out to Opus 88 with an email and some pictures and they simply asked me for my address and the nib size that I would like. Less than a week later I had a brand new pen that had some obvious upgrades to keep me from having the same issue again. I must've had an old version in the line and they upgraded me to the new model completely free of charge. I was blown away by the customer service and highly suggest picking any of their pens up if you're considering one.
I realize it's kinda off topic but do anybody know a good site to watch new tv shows online?
I love how matter of fact, thorough, consistent, and helpful your reviews are. I've never really considered Opus 88 until now. Thanks!
I love my Opus 88 clear demonstrator, but Oh you Stilo & Stile.
Thanks for another great video Dave
Gorgeous Pen. Nice blend of swirls and clear. Thanks for calling my attention to it.
Thank you for the review; nice pen and ink. Stilo e stile is my favourite shop!
The color of that ink is beautiful. Can't wait til I get my demonstrator.
Thank you David. I just ordered one, as well as the Ink that you selec
ted.
It would be interesting to calculate the percentage of JoWo nibs among the reviews of various pen reviewers during the last years.
Great review. Measurements appreciated 👍
I like the way you did that opening transition. 👍🏻
My favorite number is 11 too!
I love Stilo&Stile - insanely fast shipping, amazing customer service and reasonable prices. I really like their collaboration with Opus 88 but I'm lusting after more Twsbis right now, so idk whether to get it or not... 🤔 Thank you for this thorough review! The pen does look lovely.
My Opus 88 Demonstrator is one of my favor pens. Mine is filled with Iroshizuku Yama-budo! Beautiful!
Great video
That's a really lovely pen.
11 is my favorite number also!! i liked the aesthetics when i was little, but as i got older this number just appears to me everywhere. If i had a choice of numbers, like you i would have tried for the 11 first, then would have tried for 111. if neither were available then i woud have gone for any double digit like you did because "factor of 11". :) Thank you for the review David.
Beautiful pen! If I had to choose a number I would choose. 133. It was my Boot Camp company number and as such, was a number that helped change the direction of my life for the better.
Another great review! Did you notice how the ink feathered a little at the end of the writing sample in particular where it went down heavily on the verticals testing line variation?
Just picked one up and some ink what great deal on a awesome looking pen 😀
Enjoy your new pen. I think you'll like it.
Very beautiful and reasonably-priced pen; thanks a lot for yet another great review, David. If I were to pick a number from 80-160, I would pick 99; my wife and I got married in 1999.
Colours are a bonus on this pen. The Conklin Mark Twain gun metal crescent filler is the heaviest pen I have at 88 grams. Mine came with a fine nib which I will probably change for a medium.
I really like the Demonstrator colorway styles for Opus 88: I am less of a fan of the Visconti Demonstrator colorways but it is really cool to see another example of how it could be done.
If I had a choice between 80 and 160, I think I would go with 124. The reason is obscure to many, but it was my draft lottery number (I was not called as it was the waning days of the war in Vietnam and I don't believe many from my year were actually drafted).
I will be anxious to see your review of the Conklin Mark Twain crescent-filler! That is on my list of "when I get the money."
love my opus 88 Demo - chunky delight
I would choose 88 since I was born on August 8 which was one of the main reason I bought two opus models the Picnic Viola and Phantasia Brown since they litterly have my Birthdate printed on it.
I am fairly new to this hobby. How would you consider an EF nib on this pen compared with a Pilot EF? Would you get a fairly similar line or the opus 88 ef would be thicker? Thanks a lot
003. It is my favorite number, and I choose it almost to a fault. Plus it would be cool to have a low number pen.
The Opus 88 Koloro or Jazz will be my next pen!
I’ve never thought of you as a merchandiser. But I have placed my order just now. I am a busy pen using physician that has carried a O88 Omar demonstrator in B filled with Zhivago for over a year. Weekly filling - never dries out. An easy but appreciated sell. Many thanks!!
Hi! It's said a fountaion pen's nib, particularly a gold one, forms depending the user's handwriting and foece he/she applies on the pen by his hand. It's advised not to lend a FP to someone else. I have seen so many ads for FPs that tested by a writer and is placed for sale. Tragedically, when someone intends to test a new pen, he/she puts pressure on the pen in different ways seeing line variation and springiness. Considering all above, do you see it a wise purchase to buy a pen that has been tested by someone before?
I have personally never experienced any negative effects from using someone else's pen...or having someone write with one of mine.
@@FigbootonPens Thanks for your answer.
I know that on some Opus 88 models you can remove the clip by unscrewing the finial. Is that the case with this one also?
Yes, it is. There used to be some sort of glue or sealant in the finial threads on the Demonstrators that made it a bit harder to initially loosen, but they stopped doing that quite a while ago.
Yeah! I took mine off the other day. The only issue I had with it is that the finial isn't perfectly centered for me anymore. There a bit of a step (and I mean a tiny bit) between the cap and finial where they meet.
@@osirisgolad Thanks - I really like mine better without. :)
@@Keen_Edge Thanks for the info - mine actualy seems to be a smoother fit without the clip.
I really want one but at the same time - I wished it'd post. Though a "large pen" it's body is about as long as that of a twsbi eco. I have huge hands so I post mine often.
But I really do want one.
I don't ever find myself wishing I could post mine. The weight feels great in my hand.
You'll love it.. Does not post but the pen is large enough that posting is not needed anyway. I own an OMAR and a smaller Fantasia.
Do you have an email address for contacting Stilo and Stile?
I just bought one. I'm easy on my pens.
I would choose the number 27.
You chose the best number. Lemieux.
Reasonably Priced ?
I beg to Differ. 🤷♀️
91, my birth year
number 88 of an opus 88... thats some good flex 😏
I would choose 111.
I would want number 108.
25 my birthday
I’ve been interested in the Opus 88 since I first discovered it via your video. I always hesitate to actually get one because it just seems like too much pen!
If you mean the size, there are smaller models, like the Picnic or Jazz, which are shorter and less girthy. I have tiny hands, so the Picnic is my go-to, although I do own a clear Demonstrator with a B nib.
For me it would be number 45.
I’d pick 69… cuz it would make my 13 year old self giggle every time
Too many rotations to remove the cap is why I have sold on the two Opus 88s that I had in the past. This one has even more. I don't get it -- there doesn't seem to be any reason for it, and surely they have had feedback about that, they just don't seem to care. Beyond that, the main thing the pens have going for them is large ink capacity, not so important to me.
As for my preferred number, it wouldn't be 88 due to the sad associations with neo-nazis (due to H being the 8th letter of the alphabet).
88 symbolizes prosperity and good luck in Chinese culture.
@@FigbootonPens Different meanings for different cultures, I guess. Unfortunately, I'm in this culture and not that one.
Yeah the excessive rotations to remove the cap is really the only thing that bugs me about the pen. It only really bothers me because I tend to jot notes briefly and then cap my pens, it's not a quick process with this pen.
I also don't require a large capacity of ink. Heck, I don't even fill my tiny little cartridge converters all the way because I'll get bored of an ink too fast. Not once have I completely filled my O88 with ink. It doesn't seem to cause any issues with flow or anything that I've noticed.
To be honest I don't think this is a pen I would've bought outright. I got mine used and liked it much more than I thought I would.
I'd like that it's numbered 0(pus)88 😂
12, 144, or any factor of 12. Because it symbolizes the 12 tribes of Isreal and a calling from the one above the heavens.
You know, for some people the number 88 is a little controversial. Since the eighth letter of the alphabet is H, 88 stands for HH, which stands for Heil H*tler. Just saying.
88 symbolizes fortune and good luck in Chinese culture.
8 is pronounce as 'baa', in mandarin or 'bart' in Cantonese. It sounds like' fa; in Mandarin or 'fart' in Cantonese. Both words means 'prosperity'. Like 4 sound like 'death' and it a taboo number.
It is the number of keys on most pianos. As in, "Now, give me a little bit of bass, with those 88's
. Awwww, You're cookin' baby!"
@@1968gadgetyo so to say 88, you will sound like "fart fart"?
I feel like the people that think that the number 88 somehow has a deeper meaning are the same people who enjoy indulging in conspiracy theories. 🙊
