When filling you may want to extend the plunger, fill the barrel, tighten on the Section, point the nib down, slowly depress the plunger until one drop of ink falls on a paper towel to catch the ink drop. You've primed the feed. If more than one drop drips out, point the nib up, flick the side of the barrel while looking inside the barrel. You should see ink go back into the barrel. Close the plunger knob, then unscrew it two turns from fully closed.
Hey Doodles, it's been a year since you posted this - thought I'd provide a quick filling tip...when filling the barrel, unscrew the plunger enough so ink doesn't get 'trapped' on top of the plunger and instead goes around it and into the barrel. Keep up the great reviews! Love 'em.
@@radiofreealbemuth The plunger has a rubber ink reservoir shut-off valve on the end, which makes it a great option for stopping ink burping due to air temperature or pressure changes.
@andylegg1878 ah, that makes sense. I went on to watch some more videos and I figured it had to do with the shut off. I always wondered how the "shut off" for these type of pens worked (like opus 88 Omar and pilot 823) so I guess it just tamps down on the feed, so it cuts off the flow. Thank you for the explanation. I'm new to fountain pens, so I've just been watching a bunch of videos and trying to figure out all the differences.
I've come to really like my Opus 88's. Great writers, substantial capacity, wonderful girth. My only complaint is that they're certainly not pocket pens (shirt or otherwise) but I could write all day with it.
Yeah, a bit too big for shirt pockets for sure. I still don't carry any pens in shirt pockets as I still don't 100% trust they wont have "an accident."
@@Doodlebud While I have to agree they're not 100% (so a few accidents -- 3 or 4 over about 30 years, carrying several daily), I take the gamble by and large --only after triple checking the capping. Other than the Fantasia, there's now also the Mini in several colorways, but it's still a chonky pen, esp. compared to to a Pilot Elite/E95S, Kaweco Sport, etc.
Love my Opus pens. They perform very well. I have found that I need to keep the end unscrewed some at all times as it doesn’t dry out the nib and feed after a couple of weeks of non use. Excellent video as always. Thanks

You can get a Platinum President with a solid gold nib or, if you like the ink cutoff feature, a Pilot Custom 823, also with a solid gold nib, for $10 to $40 more, and either would be a better choice. Frankly, my $1 Serwex from India and the so-called Dollar fountain pens from Pakistan that actually cost $2 are also better than this.
Sounds like you found the pens that you like
Holy game changer.
The color looks like black sugar boba milk tea.
Havent had that particular bubble tea, but will look for it on the menu next time I get one.
Woahhhhh an extra $34, yikes!! Beautiful instrument :)
Tax, Duty, and a $9.95 admin fee because it costs them money to charge me money. The worst mob bosses are more reasonable than the government.
“Shookum”, huh, are you AvE’s distant cousin 😅?
It's a regional language thing lol. Been using Skookum since my teenage years. There's even a small town called Skookumchuck
Sigue siendo basura china. Informa del estado de la pluma después de dos años de uso intenso. Si es que sobrevive.
That is such an ugly pen. The "amber" in the cap looks like broken pieces of cork.
Lol, well I guess I'd recommend to not buy one. Guess my video just saved you $100 👍🤣
@@Doodlebud True! Thank you :-)
I have the opus koloro in red and its my favourite pen. The Ebonite they used is very high quality and the whole pen feels and writes very nicely. One thing that bugs me is that #5 nib on it. I have been eyeing the pen you got and the demonstrator for a while now.
