Thanks for the video and information! This will help me plan my giant fights in winters to come :) Ps, I love commentary about Deerclops’ “purpose” for new players.
Fascinating video! Very well put together and informative! I found that the sections with the timers tended to be a little too long and empty, though- I think it would’ve been better to start the clips later/skip some of the middle, or have more talking during it, so that viewers can get an idea for the breathing but not sit there for a long time in silence.
Another in depth DST lesson. I stopped playing DST n deleted all DST channels except this one. It's a lil sad that all other decent DST UA-cam players have mostly lost interest in this game n stopped making content. It would be particularly entertaining to see some playthroughs, with multiple players or challenge servers etc. If ur playing with other UA-cam DST players Im guessing they r uploading? Like Jazzy. Would it not be worth uploading ur raw play fotage. I know u usually like to release an edited polished product, which obviously takes a lot of time n effort to complete. I personally would love to see an entire play through with friends. I hope u will consider recording n uploading some. Thanks for the vid. Nice work as always.
This requires so much math, & I never use default season lengths, but it was none the less very interesting & useful. I had no idea he would become calm & despawn after destroying all your hopes & dreams. I also didn't know about the skipping a year part so that is also useful.
Awesome video! I always love seeing in-depth analysis of topics like this. I didn't know about the ability to delay his spawns by disconnecting/hiding in caves, that's pretty neat...But probably not too useful, mostly because caves and winter are a horrible combination. I have to say, though...Is it bad that I already knew most of this? I must be a bigger nerd than I thought. I learned very well about the 2.8 days thing after I tried to tag-team Bee Queen with Deerclops at the end of winter. He lived until Spring, died tragically(I avenged him), and then caught me completely off guard at the start of the next winter. Good memories.
Interesting to note about the timer trick! I always thought you were forced to eventually endure a winter without a Deerclops, since I really enjoy using houndious. I do wonder though, does that mean Deerclops only contributes to the kill timer if killed in winter? If so, that’s interesting to see why it isn’t for every season, but I guess it really was not intended to kill Deerclops in spring
By the way, I tried to figure out the mechanics behind how often can bearger spawn, but I cannot find it anywhere, especially since I have been playing on worlds with very long seasons (Autumn included). So far I can conclude that it's a bit random with a generally longer timer than Deerclops, around day 35 or earlier always at dusk, with him delaying the spawn if it's raining.
interesting and very informative vid, i did notice that some winter he didn't spawn at all and was wondering what's with that, won't be the case anymore :D Thanks!
I'll have to watch this a few times to fully understand. I do agree deerclopes is a great boss for many reasons. He is probably one of, if not the biggest challenges for new players. Even tho he is easy to kill once experienced, he is particularly challenging n disruptive in winter. It's frustrating n difficult if he spawns whilst fighting Klaus tho it's actually doable/manageable however I find it much worse if he spawns whilst fighting dragonfly. If he spawns whilst Im trying to kill dragonfly I will just abort the fight. It's too difficult to find deerclopes, fight dragonfly n stop all walls getting destroyed etc.
Is it a coincidence that Deerclops spawned exactly at the beginning of night time for me twice in a row? Eg: Day 30 he spawned at night time (as normal and expected). I killed him. Second winter, he spawned at the exact same time. But that didn't factor in the time it took me to kill him, but they still spawned exactly at night time.
Edit: Never mind, I forgot that a DS year starts with fall not spring xD but I leave the comment for everyone else being confused because of not having a mindset inside the constant enough I feel so stupid watching this video! If a year has 70 days and 15 of that being winter and 55 of that being non winter that means the first day of Winter Year 1 is the 56th, but the first day of winter year 2 should then be the 126th day because 70 (one full year) + 55 (all seasons exept winter) = 125, so next day the 125th day should be the second winter. But in your video u clearly fight clops on day 103 with snow seen on the ground. How can that be? xD I'm super confused...
In DST, they shouldn't have any effect. They might affect the timer in single player, since in single player eating a mandrake actually causes day cycles to be skipped in real time; but in DST eating a mandrake just forces the player into a sleep animation for a few seconds and doesn't otherwise change anything.
@@margatejp Can't, sadly. I can only use Friedrich for the surface bosses, unless Klei allows us to bring beefalo into the caves with a new RoT update. I have other tricks up my sleeve though.

Swanky besides you pinning comments that praise you, could you introduce to everywhere about Womp the Abyssal, a character mod with high lore potential, sadly the mod is dead for over 3 years in fact the mod seemed to stop updating a couple months after it's release. I wish Klei would made Womp offical. His quotes imply that he has witnessed the collapse of the ruins to saying that gears used to rain, his indirect fear of magic, "Magic should not be toyed with!". The tentacles connection to the ruins, when examining nightmare fuel he states "Is the abyss leaking?", his home think about nightmare fissures. His design isn't even that much of a stretch anymore. The baby tentacles are confirmed to be the tentapillars' arms and we already have survivors whose origins are within the constant. Although he's kinda a fish out of water but not to the extent that wormwood is and his head shape is also oddly the same shape that wormwood is so it could look a little odd if the 1/100000 chance that klei would add Womp to dst
