Another great how to video!! Thank you so much for posting, these videos are very helpful especially for newbie's like myself. Many thanks once again!!
I picked one of these up recently and used it the first time the other day....omg....so much easier.... The question that I have though....and not sure this is the right place to ask because I'm looking at your solid green grime there....but I usually wash everything off when I'm done....and I'm worried if water to this can mess anything up (with the battery removed of course)
This is the right place to ask. I hope that you are not suggesting that I don't take care of my tools because there is grass still on my trimmer. This tool is weather resistant, but not meant to be hosed off. The motor of the tool is in the head, so spraying water in there is bad for the motor and main bearings. You wipe it off with paper towels, and that is why mine looks like that.
I have issues with just one side of cord breaking when using trimmer then I have to redo stringing tool. Any ideas why just one side of string breaks when using? Any help would be appreciated. Nice video by the way.
Possibly, also it is possible that it is just got stuff wrapped around the shaft above the head. Here is my video on replacing the head ua-cam.com/video/RoTYJrLqf7U/v-deo.html
Oh no rats…I saw this video first, and thought to put the screwdriver on the tab down towards the ground end…and couldn’t get it open. Then I saw another one of your videos where you show the *opposite* and put the screwdriver on the tabs up towards the top! Now I don’t know which is right. I hope I didn’t damage the tabs. Now I can’t seem to open it up with my fingers or with a screwdriver no matter where I direct it. I’m stuck! Our trimmer is new and suddenly we can’t advance the string no matter how much we bump it on the ground, so I want to get the thing open but I can’t seem to do that either. I’ll keep trying.
@Suzanne S I went back and checked this video and I put the screwdriver towards the ground. I thought about what you said and looked at my older video on how to get an EGO trimmer head open and watched that video. I did the opposite on that trimmer because it was the Rapid Reload head ( older version ) and the tabs are on the cap that comes off and not on the base that stays on. The way to know the best direction to put the screwdriver would be to push the tab in with your finger ( or thumb ) and see which side moves. Does the side towards the ground move, or the side towards the trimmer move. That is the side that you should put the screwdriver. A question that I did not think about until you brought it up, so thank you. I have added a note to the older video in the description. You probably didn't break the tabs, unless you unleashed your inner warrior goddess on it. You say now you can't open it all. Sounds like you might just be scared that you broke it and are not approaching this problem with a clear head. Give it another shot, I bet that you can do it. I hope what I said here helps. At the very worst I have videos on how to install new trimmer heads and it's not too bad to do.
@@AroundTheHome1 thank you! Okay. I can easily move the tab on the side towards the ground in a bit with finger or screwdriver, but nothing happens. It just feels like plastic bending. I can bend it until there is an actual gap, but no action. If I try to push the upper part of the tab, just nothing. I have the S1500SF & it doesn’t have rapid reload. I actually looked up several videos of people removing the cover just to try and see how much pressure people are applying. It doesn’t seem like they’re having to assert inner warrior deity strength! Haha. I will keep trying. Or maybe bring it up to Ace Hardware and see if they can show me. Thanks again! Glad I found your channel. Subscribed!

Thanks for the great video. I've been wanting to purchase a line trimmer for years. Finally got one. And lucky me, the EGO trimmers run on 56V batteries so I don't have to worry about petrol. It's really quiet when it runs so the neighbours are happy. AND the Powerload head makes loading fresh line a breeze. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
Thanks so much for watching and a shoutout from the Land Down Under. I really do like this line of equipment and I think you will too. Here is our webpage with everything EGO www.aroundthehome.org/ego-power-plus.html
Nice video. I must add, for personal safety, to please remove the battery pack before attempting to remove the head. That spinning string can cause some serious injuries.
I just saw a dog today that tried to attack a weed eater - fortunately, the guy realized the dog was coming and managed to get the weed eater out of the path of the dog before the dog got it's face taken off. It was bruised and bleeding a little, but it happened very fast. Put your pets in the house for their sake when you're weed eating. That string really can hurt you and your pets.
This was a really well done video from start to finish. Answered all of my questions and had me back up and running in 5 minutes. One of the best how to videos I've come across!
Thank you for this! Just purchased one and have used up the preloaded line. Got new line in following your instructions! I love this string trimmer it's light and easy to use for a 65 yr old woman! I recommend!
Got here from your original video. Another excellent video!! Thanks so much for adding the tip for using the screw driver. Those tabs look like a beast to push in.
You are great at explaining the trimmer. I have anST1510T and the line that came with it ran out. Now I will try to install my replacement string for the fisrt time with the help of your video. After 3 times I finally made it work I would load it and use it a shortly the sting would not come out. It just stayed inside the trimmer. I did my best to keep the line straight but I believe it wasn't.
Spot on. Great majority of the advice I found first was, essentially, "flip the switch and bam there's the light." Uh if I didn't know how to flip a switch, I may not have made it on-line. I could not rethread, weedwhip lacked on-board advice due to accessive tapping. I could see the obstruction was likely due to remmnants of the prior feed, but I didn't know how to simply open up the thing and clear it. Though the instruction appeared upside down to me, it got me back in the yard. So, thanks.
My fingers are on the losing side of this task every time. So while I did go to a flathead screwdriver, I was doing it downward, not upward as you do. Your tip is MUCH easier, thank you! (It's the smallest things that make the biggest difference.) 💯⭐💯
Thanks for pointing out MOST people will need to use scewdriver or something to open tabs. I don't know who has strong enough fingers to open the tabs!
@@bobb8738 agree. I'm older and I did have trouble winding the string and getting the tabs compressed. I had to get the screwdriver as well. I was surprised have to say, reality check I guess, between arthritis in some joints and not real strong hands, it was difficult to get it rewound, but I did.
Does the shape of the string make a difference when reloading the string? I have a spool of 0.95 round string left over from my previous trimmer. When I attempt to thread it through the holes I notice a great deal of resistance threading it to the other side. Once it is threaded it doesn’t want to reload the string. It was very easy to load the small amount of string that came with the trimmer but it was the twisted type. So…does the shape make a difference? It seems like it wouldn’t.
It does actually. I didn't think it would at first, but this is confirmed by many of my viewers. You should use a twisted line for best performance with any of the EGO heads.
Hi, Helpful video. I'm a bit confused about the string usage. The amount of string installed, how do you know it's time to change the string? Does new string get used with every use? If your string is too short (mine came installed), can I extend the existing string a bit, or do I need to re-string with a new rope?
Hey there. I think the video that I gave you the link to will help you with most of these questions. These trimmers use bump heads, so they only extend the string when you "bump" them. Unless the string gets jammed, when it gets too short, it will fly out. Thanks for asking this question, I reviewed the video and added chapters to it to help out. Hopefully that answers your questions, but if you have more then please ask. And here is our webpage with everything EGO on it. www.aroundthehome.org/ego-power-plus.html
thank you so very much. single lady here I bought a great EGO string trimmer 2nd hand. First use was great but now one side is stuck and wont feed. I could no longer finish my job. I couldn't find a good Amazon link at the time. Here is one. www.amazon.com/EGO-Power-AL2450S-ST1500-S-ST1500SF/dp/B01N39HQH5?crid=97RXC0BDWHX0&keywords=095%2Btwisted%2Btrimmer%2Bline&qid=1684680485&sprefix=.095%2Btw%2Caps%2C143&sr=8-5&th=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=greatwhitenin-20&linkId=d9dca90935f28dc501991292b6d71bf1&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
I had trouble getting it off to reload. I wasn't sure if it's supposed to just pop off or what after you compress the tabs, or if you're supposed to pull it.
I just bought one of these ego trimmers and the guy from Lowe's told me to just check out UA-cam for how to do the auto load. Your vid was at the top and I just wanted to let you know how awesomely easy you made it for me to follow. Plus, you have ALL of the trimmers hanging on your wall...so I know you're legit. New sub here.
Succinct and to the point making it one of the better instructional videos I have watched, most like to gab about the weather and their camping plans for the summer, this is a good example of how to make concise watchable videos. Thank you for your time.
Excellent video. I struggled for a a half hour to get the cap off. Your tip on using a screwdriver saved the day. Removed the line and used the power head to rewind. Works a treat. Thank you!
Love this video. It was very helpful. I have a question. Once you have put the sting, why did you leave one string "just right" and the other "a little long"? What is the purpose for the longer string? Thank you.☺
You know, I have to say that your level of detail is amazing. There is no reason for the longer string. The head normally sits that way so when you pull them out one side is a bit longer then the other. That is all. The longer side will be chopped off as soon as you start using it.
Question, whenever I do this and began to use it, my line unravels extending extra line. I have to repeat the steps multiple times before eventually the line gets caught up and no longer comes out. Then I have to open it and pull it free, any suggestions?
@2 Wheeled Social Worker thanks for your question. And sorry to hear that you are having troubles with your trimmer. I am unfortunately not familiar with this problem, and with all the time that I have had these and my videos, this is only the second or third time that I have heard of this. And one of the times was not on the PowerLoad head, but the Rapid Reload head. So, I guess I have 2 possible things to say at the moment. First, did you just buy this one? You might just exchange it for another. Second, whether it is brand new or not it is possible that the nut holding on the head is either too tight or not tight enough. I have a video where I replace the head. Here is that link and it should start right before I install the nut that holds it together. Of course it would might make more sense if you watch the whole video, but here is the link ua-cam.com/video/RoTYJrLqf7U/v-deo.html
Your other video on the string trimmer really helped me and I no longer have anxiety about this previous "unknown frontier". I only came back to subscribe :).
Mine has stopped loading, the head just turns. I can stop it turning by holding the head but it still doesn’t load the string. Tried taking it apart to see if it needs cleaning (following advice on some other UA-cam videos) but the nut inside is too tight to remove! Can I load the string manually as per older models?
I have some good tips on how to remove the powerload head in this video. ua-cam.com/video/RoTYJrLqf7U/v-deo.html There is probably something wrapped around under it.
Great video. I have a echo thats kinda driving me crazy .. Love this load mechanism. Seems ,so ez ...my question is ...how long does the battery last . I do a few customer , a day . And does it come with one battery or two ..
@Edgardo Matos, if you are using the small 2.5 Ah battery with this trimmer it will get done one yard basically. I edge my front drive, sidewalk, porch, flower bed, side yard, fence line, rear porch, deck, and can do my neighbors front before the battery dies. Here is an old video of mine that shows how far I ran before the battery died. ua-cam.com/video/WFw6gecOx0s/v-deo.html
Thank you! Can you help with the challenge of really curly trimmer line? I noticed yours is not that curly but mine is so its still fiddly trying to load it.
Hey! I have a piece of trim line literally jammed in the center that I can’t get out! Any suggestions how to get it out so I can put a new line of trim through?
Thank you for the video. In fact I don’t waste the long one, instead I pull the short one out while pushing in the middle and redo the last step so they go inside evenly
@Theresa DeBari even though I haven't had this problem, I have had other viewers that have. It is typical that something has gotten caught up under the bump head. It would need to be removed to clear whatever is up there. Here is a video of mine replacing the head so you can learn how to remove it and re-install it. ua-cam.com/video/RoTYJrLqf7U/v-deo.html Good luck.
Thanks for this video. Honestly, this trimmer gets jammed way too easily and I'm starting to think it's a design flaw. It's got power for days, but it gets jammed a little too frequently.
Mine does not feed easily at all. I have put it aside after trying several times and gone back to my old reliable trimmer. Find this particular EGO product is a frustrating piece of junk. One hour to load the sting to do 20 minutes worth of work.Terrible engineering.@@AroundTheHome1
@Nina Bee I need more details. I assume that you do have the EGO Powerload system, since you messaged on both videos. First, is this a brand new trimmer? What line are you using?
@@AroundTheHome1 It is a powerload. The first generation of powerload, so no not new. I bought it used. I'm using the ego .095 string. I can load it, power works and the head sucks it up, but it's not going in the groves how it should. When I look inside it's not lined up neatly, kinda all over the place inside. Then when I try to use it, the string comes out rapidly and the head gets all wound up in string.
@Nina Bee thank you for the additional info. So, the trimmer is not new, but is it new for you? Did it work good for you, then not or did it just start? Either way it sounds like the head might be bad. Here is my video for replacing the head and there are Amazon links for the new head in the video description. And my trimmer was one of the first Powerloads so it should be the same as yours. ua-cam.com/video/RoTYJrLqf7U/v-deo.html
I have the ST1521S and have been having trouble since the 2nd year of using trying to get the string to load when I press the power load button. Been working with Ego support, but there final decision was that the head was worn out and to buy a new one. The entire head will spin, and the line never gets pulled in. I disagree with Ego about the head being worn out, this is only the third time in the three years of using it that I've had to load string into. I've since found a work around since searching this issue on the web, and that is to press the power load button, and at the same time hold in the black ring on the bottom of the head around the bump feed button. This helps the head to stop spinning and then loads the line. This happened to me the second time I tried to load string and I got it to work by disassembling and cleaning the head, the third time loading the string this hasn't help so I have to do the two handed maneuver. I paid alot for this trimmer, and just wish Ego would make it right, any thoughts?
This has helped most of my viewers that have trouble with the Powerload head pulling in the string. If long grass / hay / twine or anything else gets stuck between the head and the motor can cause loading problems. Here is my video on replacing the head which would help you to remove it and clean out anything stuck in there. Hope it helps. ua-cam.com/video/RoTYJrLqf7U/v-deo.html

You are right, it is hard to put that cap back on. It was even harder with the Rapid Reload head. Especially the original one. I have just got the new trimmer with the Line IQ and I am glad to say that they have re-done almost everything on it. Specific to your comment, it is so much easier to open and close the head. I am currently shooting the video for this and will have comprehensive videos live soon.
@@AroundTheHome1 You Rock! Don't suppose you have video on how to replace belts on an OLD Troy Bilt rider mower...or, something similar. @@AroundTheHome1 It worked wonderfully for the first string, but the auto-reload didn't work when I went to refill it. No power at the reload button at all. I'm working on a warranty claim now.
It might have. I recommend a quality .095 twisted line for any of the EGO trimmers. Here is their line. www.amazon.com/EGO-Power-AL2450S-ST1500-S-ST1500SF/dp/B01N39HQH5?crid=32CMST8NPA4SQ&keywords=095+twisted+trimmer+line&qid=1690938402&sprefix=.095+twi%2Caps%2C135&sr=8-4&linkCode=ll1&tag=greatwhitenin-20&linkId=6b0b699ec9e2a4263fd95282f10a1d58&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl Shakespeare also makes a good twisted line that you can get at your local Lowe's if you prefer.
There is not an updated head, at least to my knowledge. There is a problem though if you get string or long grass stuck up between the head and motor. Use this video to remove the head and clear out anything that should not be there. ua-cam.com/video/RoTYJrLqf7U/v-deo.html
I took the head off and no debris, dirt, or grass was in there. I just put it back together and it works perfectly now. Maybe the nut just work occasionally and then the gear/ridges don’t mesh perfectly so that’s why it fails.
These explicit videos are invaluable!! Thank you for the effort and detail!! Bravo.

After 3 times I finally made it work I would load it and use it a shortly the sting would not come out. It just stayed inside the trimmer. I did my best to keep the line straight but I believe it wasn't.
Glad it helped, and thanks for watching.
So, thanks.
You are very welcome.

I had trouble getting it off to reload. I wasn't sure if it's supposed to just pop off or what after you compress the tabs, or if you're supposed to pull it.

I just bought one of these ego trimmers and the guy from Lowe's told me to just check out UA-cam for how to do the auto load. Succinct and to the point making it one of the better instructional videos I have watched, most like to gab about the weather and their camping plans for the summer, this is a good example of how to make concise watchable videos. Thank you for your time.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!!! Very helpful 🎉

Excellent video. I struggled for a a half hour to get the cap off. Your tip on using a screwdriver saved the day. Removed the line and used the power head to rewind. Works a treat. Thank you!
Glad it helped! 😎
0.095 line US is a 2.4mm line in the UK / Europe.
Thanks for the info
Love this video. It was very helpful. I have a question. Once you have put the sting, why did you leave one string "just right" and the other "a little long"? What is the purpose for the longer string? Thank you.☺
You know, I have to say that your level of detail is amazing. There is no reason for the longer string. The head normally sits that way so when you pull them out one side is a bit longer then the other. That is all. The longer side will be chopped off as soon as you start using it.
Thank you so much and you saved my day.
👍 So glad to help! Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org
Thanks for the sub!
Another spot on, very helpful vid. BRAVO ZULU. Semper Fi
Glad you enjoyed it
Mine has stopped loading, the head just turns.
Well done, great personality. Did you put your knife back in your pocket without folding it? You're a beast if you did.

The shaft/retaining nut that holds the spool is below the line feed.
Thank you! Can you help with the challenge of really curly trimmer line? I noticed yours is not that curly but mine is so its still fiddly trying to load it.
Sounds like you need to ditch that line and get yourself some new, better line.
Thanks!

Hey! I have a piece of trim line literally jammed in the center that I can’t get out! Any suggestions how to get it out so I can put a new line of trim through?
I assume that you have already pushed some line down there to push it out?
Thank you so much for posting this video! This is the first one that actually worked on the model that I had.
You are welcome!
Thank you for the video. In fact I don’t waste the long one, instead I pull the short one out while pushing in the middle and redo the last step so they go inside evenly

My power loader spins around instead of winding in the line. And the head with the Ego logo gets hot 🔥. I see yours bounces as it loads the line.
Mine is jammed. Title of your video says how to unjam. You don't say how to unjam in the video.
I totally show how to open the head and remove a jammed line. Are you sure you watched the video?

Thanks for this video. Honestly, this trimmer gets jammed way too easily and I'm starting to think it's a design flaw. It's got power for days, but it gets jammed a little too frequently.
I find that interesting. Mine almost never jams. Like in the 3 years that I have had it, I think like one time.
Mine does not feed easily at all. I have put it aside after trying several times and gone back to my old reliable trimmer. Find this particular EGO product is a frustrating piece of junk. One hour to load the sting to do 20 minutes worth of work.Terrible engineering.@@AroundTheHome1
My won't load properly. It's not going into the groves as it should. Any idea what might be the problem?
@@AroundTheHome1 I've decided to try replacing the entire head. Hoping that'll fix the problem.
@Nina Bee here is hoping. Let me know if that works for you.
@@AroundTheHome1 Yep, I've completely removed the head and cleaned what little debris that was in it and still doesn't work correctly.

The EGO is VERY hard to recap once the string becomes too short! SO appreciate viewing and reviewing this video.

That's the new one with the Line IQ. Did it used to work and now it doesn't? How new is this trimmer for you?
@@AroundTheHome1 It worked wonderfully for the first string, but the auto-reload didn't work when I went to refill it. No power at the reload button at all. I'm working on a warranty claim now.
I see, sorry to hear that. If it's still new can you just exchange it at the store?
How to make string longer after using wears out / shortens 🙏

Thank you for your video. It was so easy to load! However, I used it for about 5 feet and all the string was gone. What happened? Lol.
How much did you put in?
@AroundTheHome1 it was about 12-14 feet? It wasn't great string so maybe it just ate right through it?
Mine won’t load when I hit hold the button. It makes noise, but it won’t wind in the line. Will a new version head fix the this?
There is not an updated head, at least to my knowledge. There is a problem though if you get string or long grass stuck up between the head and motor. Use this video to remove the head and clear out anything that should not be there. ua-cam.com/video/RoTYJrLqf7U/v-deo.html
I took the head off and no debris, dirt, or grass was in there. I just put it back together and it works perfectly now. Maybe the nut just work occasionally and then the gear/ridges don’t mesh perfectly so that’s why it fails.
Don't know, but glad that you got it working again.
