    In this video we show you what it takes to build your own "TacoBox" using Marlin Crawler's dual case adapter plates. This will require you to source a compatible transfer case from an early 80's Toyota truck as a donor. The benefit of this sicmod is allowing you to bolt an additional reduction housing unit between your existing transfer case and transmission with each case having its own shifter. By combining the factory Toyota transfer case, and low range reduction gear sets of 2.28:1, a final transfer case ratio of 5.2:1 is achieved. This new low range gear ratio is 119% lower than a stock setup.

    Good stuff as always! The detail and time you both put into these is a huge benefit to the Toyota community. Thank you once again🍺🍺 One minor constructive criticism would be to mention that you should allow the RTV to set for about 30-60 minutes before torquing the fasteners down👍

    • @Chris-bg8mk
      @Chris-bg8mk 3 роки тому +1

      That’s what I was thinking as well. I like to drive the fasteners in by hand, wait about a half an hour, then torque to spec. This leaves a tiny space between the mating surfaces for the gasket material before you put the final squeeze on it.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your feedback. We did need to tighten it a bit just to get the mating surfaces to touch down but can’t say we waited 60 minutes before our final torque.

    One question, is Chris's truck an auto or standard?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  2 роки тому

      He’s got an automatic. We are potentially going to do a manual swap on one of our 3rd gens and THEN install the other marlin crawler transfer case we have after it’s a manual. If our calculations are correct, adding a dual transfer case to a manual trans is will still clear the cross member and gas tank avoiding the need to cut the crossmember out AND then there would be no need to re-locate the gas tank

    So what happens to the electronic 2wd/4wd control knob of the 3rd gen (The spin dial: 2wd-H, 4wd-H, 4wd-L) after you install a single or dual transfer case? Is it disconnected? What if you're running a single stick (on front case) or dual stick (on front case) or triple stick (twin stick on front case and single stick on rear) what job does the original control knob do?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  2 роки тому +1

      not sure exactly what your question is because 3rd gens use a shift lever not a control knob (I believe 4th gens use a control knob). When you install dual cases, the stock shifter gets moved back and the new shifter is where the original shifter was, Chris opted to keep all of the OEM electronics to keep the OEM all wheel drive function that can be engaged when you press the button on the stock transfer case shift lever

    specifically which box do I need? as they dont offer built units anymore (for the time being) I've looked at 84-90's 4runner T-cases.. and there is one at a local junkyard for $150.. but without going to see it how do I know it's the right one? specific years/models of 4runner/tacoma? I do note that they request a 23 spline input for the t-case, and only ones I see that have this are the 1986-87 turbo 22re trucks.. and nearest one I've found is in CT.. 250 miles away...

      We're not mechanics for hire. We just don't have the time. We both have regular full time jobs and we do the UA-cam videos as a side gig. We prioritize our spare time to making new content for our channel because that's how we can do the most good. We also have other responsibilities and interests so doing side jobs for people puts a huge strain on our lives and kicks the balance of work and leisure way out of balance causing burnout. I wish we could help, but we're going to have to pass.
      A shop I would recommend is Yota1 Performance in Riverbank near Modesto. They do good work.

      Chris ordered the adapters quite a while ago. We've heard your same complaint from lots and lots of people about Marlin Crawler. You should call them, say you watched our video, and would love to do the same mod on your rig. Ask them why they can't seem to have this product in stock. Maybe if they hear about the interest from more people like yourself, they'll figure out whatever they need to do to get their manufacturing going. That's my suggestion.
